[Q] Haier L3D42D25N smart TV software update

Hello folks,
I am fairly new to the Android OS so please be gentle
I took the plunge and finally got a smart TV from Haier which came with the 2.3.4 Android system. All is fine an cherry in 2.3.4 town as of now (apart from its horribly looking user interface design). But was wondering if i could install the 4.0 update ?
Isnt the android system like any other where you have one default version of the OS that comes from google and then there are variants from the open-source community ? If so then which is the best stable version and where can i find it.
Installation of the 2.3.4 OS is on an MMC that i copied from the technicians that came home to fix the TV so i am fine with a backup and the procedure for the install from an MMC. But i assume that if i download the OS from the internet then the procedure will be a bit different ?
I'll update more of the details (Kernel version etc) when i get home. All this because the manufacture - Haier - does not provide updates online or on its website or anywhere on the web. Appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.
Gaj
Hi Gaj - I have the same question which you have. Did you get any response from anyone or have you now upgraded to the latest version ?
If you have the latest firmware to upgrade , please share it with me or else please share the OS back up what you have as I don't even have it
please help me
Regards

[ROM][PORT] Baidu OS v39 for Spice Coolpad 2 MI-496

Disclaimer:
Please note that for all purposes, consider your warranty void after flashing this firmware. This thread is for information purposes only and I am not responsible for any damage/loss due to the use of the information posted herein. When in doubt, DO NOT FLASH.
Make a backup before proceeding with any of this.
This is Baidu Yun (Cloud) OS for Spice Coolpad 2 MI-496
This is a direct port by me from the Baidu rom for Coolpad 5890 and uses the boot.img from a Chinese port of 7268.
Baidu's (the Chinese rival of Google) Yun OS is a feature rich rom similar to MIUI and LeWa. The stock launcher also has limited support for MIUI themes and its interface is customizable.
Since Baidu uses its own Cloud services, the original rom had no google apps. I have removed all Chinese apps and Googleified it for international users.,
Screenshots:

Download Link:
http://d-h.st/hqk
Instructions:
You first need to flash the Chinese CWM recovery
Copy the zip to /sdcard
Reboot in recovery mode (adb reboot recovery)
Wipe /data and /cache (optional since I have added it to the update script as well, so keep a backup of your data) > in Chinese recovery menu, choose option 4 then option 1
Install zip from /sdcard (If you are using an external sdcard like me, from Chinese recovery menu, choose option 2 from main menu and then option 1, locate the zip file in your sdcard and flash it.)
Reboot phone (adb reboot or option 1 from main menu). Please note that the phone will take a minute to reboot from the recovery menu due to some bug in the Chinese recovery)
Known issues:
Kindly note that since the 5890 is a single sim phone, the rom supports single sim in GSM mode only, This is a known limitation and although in future I will attempt to add dual sim and 3G support, please flash this only if you can live with single sim.
On first boot, you'll see no network. Kindly navigate to Settings > Mobile networks > Click on Network Mode > GSM only and reboot. you'll see network bars then.
There is no included superuser app since there is an inbuilt permission monitor with root permissions.
Also, the boot.img use has the message bug since the new fixed kernel from Spice doesn't make the rom boot.
I will try to resolve these issues in future releases when I make the necessary changes to the patchrom git but as of now, can't say when.
Update it & Plz add Dual-Sim support along with 3G support,...
And Thanks for the development of MI496!!!

Buddy V40 Is available at Baidu...maybe some bugs are fixed...
Once Dual-Sim support along with 3G support is added...this Rom will be perfect to use...
Shall port v40 in a day or two but we are not any closer to dual sim / 3g support

CM 11 = CyanogenMod..
CyanogenMod (pronounced /saɪ.'æn.oʊ.dʒɛn.mɒd/) is an enhanced open source firmware distribution for smartphones and tablet computers based on the Android mobile operating system. It offers features and options not found in the official firmware distributed by vendors of these devices.
Features supported by CyanogenMod include native theming support, FLAC audio codec support, a large Access Point Name list, an OpenVPN client, an enhanced reboot menu, support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB tethering, CPU overclocking and other performance enhancements, soft buttons and other "tablet tweaks", toggles in the notification pull-down (such as wi-fi, Bluetooth and GPS), app permissions management, as well as other interface enhancements. CyanogenMod does not contain spyware or bloatware. In many cases, CyanogenMod may increase performance and reliability compared with official firmware releases.
CyanogenMod is developed as free and open source software based on the official releases of Android by Google, with added original and third-party code.

You should better read/ask in your phone's section.
Here is a short preview of the "advanced" android world :
- In order to backup your phone data you need a recovery.
- The most known recoveries are CWM and TWRP (in most phones you get into recovery pressing power and volume buttons while the phone is off).
- From the recoveries you can install a new ROM (firmware) to your phone, make a backup/restore or flash zip files (that run commands and move files)
- Cyanogenmod / Cm is a famous ROM with different versions for many phones. Cm11 is the Cyanogenmod kitkat version (10 jellybean, 9 icecream etc)
I hope you got the main idea
Sorry I am not getting the backup and restore option in my cwm as it shows in the videos

Setting up Android on a smart projector

Hi, I got myself a smart projector running on Android. Unfortunetely the deveopers installed a really old version and it seems there is no way to update them. When trying to add an account to the system or let alone update the system tells me that it can not communicate with the google servers. So, I am planning to install a new Android version on the smart projector.
Can anyone point me towards a good resource (on the net) that tells me what information I need to have, which files from the current installation I need to keep (i.e. drivers) before installing whoch ROM?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Sounds familiar - having the same problem: My Philips Picopix 4935 is a splendid device but its Android 4 isn't much fun (especially with newer audio/video-formats).
What model do you have?
