Welcome to the Huawei U8860 Honor / Honour / Glory - Index!
(please treat this thread as dev-thread, it is part of a dev-forum, not Q&A)
Please don't PM me for support, I will ignore those requests - they are just too many and I'm not getting paid for that, I'm not huawei support. Just ask your questions somewhere in the forum, but in my opinion this thread is really not the place for it, since this is a developer forum and not the Q&A section. That's why xda-developers adds restrictions to post here for new users - to prevent this to be a Q&A-Forum. Please Try to ask your questions in the appropriate Q&A-Section of the xda-developer Forum.
Different versions of the Huawei Honor
There are two feature differences that I am aware of:
Number of Touch-Points: 2 or 5; I have 2 touch-points and with B977 my ProjectMenu just printed "synaptic" as touchscreen version, with B919 it states "synaptics-TPK.6"
Position of Huawei Logo on the back: in the top-left corner (china / russia?) or in the middle like this: http://kaefert.is-a-geek.org/huawei_honor/IMG_7491_small.JPG
It seem's there are versions without a camera? at least user limzm states in his signature his U8860 doesn't have one.
Backup & Recovery
In my opinion the first and most important thing when playing around with different ROMs, is the ability to backup and restore the phones ROM & state.
For this you need a custom recovery (which you will also need to flash custom ROMs, so you might only skip this if you want to only flash stock ROMs)
If you're on an 2.3.6 ROM, then possibly for this to work, you first need to flash a different stock ROM. There have been reports that with 2.3.6 the method below may not work. Also some newer ROMs like B923 and above have locked boot loaders, the latest ICS ROM that you can use for this is B919
NEW: CWM 6.0.1.0 with touch-support: MOD EDIT: Link removed.
OLD: download recovery-u8860-en.img from here MOD EDIT: Link removed.
make sure there is no directory named "dload" on your micro-sd-card - if there is, rename or remove it.
Turn off Fast-Boot, and shutdown your phone. If you don't know how to turn off Fast-Boot, pull the battery (it can be found in different places in different ROMs)
Press and hold volume-up, volume-down and power-button at the same time.
You should now see your phones screen pink (="pink screen mode")
Now connect your phone with an USB cable to a computer
A few disks should be mounted, search for the one that has an "image" folder with an recovery.img and a boot.img inside it. rename the recovery.img to recovery-bak.img (or simular) and copy recovery-u8860-en.img there and rename it to recovery.img
WARNING: Don't use the file recovery_v8.img which is referenced in a few other guides. It crashes and leaves you with non bootable phone-states and/or with unfished backups which cannot be restored.
ROMs
Stock ROMs (& leaked stock ROMs)
Stock ROMs (or leaked stock ROMs) can be flashed like this:
Download and unpack onto your micro-SD Card like that: /mnt/sdcard/dload/UPDATE.APP (some ROMs also have UPDATE_CUST.APP, copy it to the same place. If you're update has a second dload_cust (or the like) folder, you need to flash it in a second round just as the first one, by renaming it to "dload")
Turn off Fast-Boot, and shutdown your phone. If you don't know how to turn off Fast-Boot, pull the battery (it can be found in different places in different ROMs)
Press and hold volume-up, volume-down and power-button at the same time.
If everything above was done correctly, you should be able to watch your phone upgrading now.
Alternative: Some ROMs have an option in the settings that lets you start the upgrade-procedure without step 2.) and 3.) from above. If you can find it, you can use that one.
You can find stock ROMs here:

(thanks to user det-happy for pointing it out to me)
The most important Stock-ROM in my eyes (as base for most custom ROMs there are) is B919, find it here:

For people running linux on their computers, I've created an adapted version of this root tool:
kaefert.is-a-geek.org/huawei_honor/HuaweiHonorRootTool_LinuxVersion.7z
OLD: Theres a nice guide explaining how to root and flash+enable google-apps here: (but don't take the recovery from there but from above. explanation also above) - only use this if the new method above doesn't work for you.

Custom ROMs
To flash custom ROMs:
download their .zip file and put it somewhere on your sd-card
boot into your custom recovery: turn off phone completly, then Long press volume up + power button (for installation of custom recovery see top of this post)
factory reset / wipe everything (not always necessary, but to be on the save side. Some ROMs will not work in some cases if you don't wipe first, however the other way round is also possible, there are custom ROMs that will NOT work if you wipe, best look at the instructions from where you downloaded the custom ROM..)
flash update zip -> choose zip from sd card.

WARNING: most MIUI-ROMs have SMS-confirmations turned on by default, which costs extra with many providers (like mine..) so check it before sending your first SMS and turn it off

Custom Kernels
I found a custom kernel that adds the option to overclock up to 2GHz. I'm used it running at 1.8GHz and it didn't seem to be any more unstable than before (I'm using the MIUI ROM which is a little bit instable all by itself already)
MOD EDIT: Link removed since you need to register to download the kernel, I also attached it MOD EDIT: Link removed to make it easier for you.
I also managed to build (and deploy) the 3.0.8 kernel sources provided by huawei myself, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23505650
With the help of the writer of rvoix I managed to adept our kernel in a way that rvoix works, but for the moment only mono so both parties mixed together in one channel (but recorded from the line, not only from the mic like most apps do). I attach the kernel that works with rvoix: View attachment boot_voc2.img.
Or for people wanting to build their kernels themselfs, here's the patch: http://code.google.com/p/rvoix/sour...pdragon/kernel/huawei_honor_u8860_rvoix.patch
UPDATE: Since our kernel sources don't work with B919 and later (non functional camera and wifi) I decided to go the other way round and modify the rvoix app to work with our kernel instead of adapting the kernel to work with the app. Here are the results: http://code.google.com/p/rvoix/downloads/detail?name=rvoix_mod_kaefert_v2.apk --> call recording that should work with all huawei honor 4.0.3 ROMs!
Various pointers
Adapting Chinese ROMs
Adding Google Apps (like the Market) --> Download zip from here http://goo-inside.me/gapps and flash it with recovery
Remove unwanted chinese system apps --> I do it with QtADB --> http://qtadb.wordpress.com/ But I guess you can also do it with some root app management apps
Change to languages that are not choosable in the standard language setting --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale
Reading chinese sites
People who don't use google chrome or the chromium project (yet) probably don't know, that it has a really nice built-in translating feature, thats very useful for finding your way arround all these chinese (or russian) websites, and much better then using translate.google.com (or other such services) manually with other browsers.
Miscellaneous
Silent Huawei camera (ICS)
I was annoyed one day by all the noises the huawei camera simulates. Therefore I investigated and found out how to make it silent.

Hi guys.
I've just cleaned this thread and would like to remind everyone about some points, so that they're not repeated in the future, and explain all the missing links you may notice.
Warez is strictly forbidden on XDA. Please do not link to websites that provide it, or to ROMs that contain pirated apps.
Kernels are licensed under the GPL. This means that the kernel's source should be provided. If it is not, it's illegal and will be treated as warez as far as XDA is concerned. In simpler terms: if you're posting a link to a ROM that contains a kernel, or a kernel, make sure the kernel's source is available and link to it as well.
Recoveries that aren't based on stock and that use a zImage (which is covered by the GPL) must also be provided along with the source.
Links to competing or commercial websites are not allowed. Links to websites that require registration to access downloads are also not allowed (there are exceptions, please see rule #11 for more info.)
Credits must be given, and you must have permission to share the work. Assuming that you do: if this goes against the point above, you may mention the member/website without linking directly to his work. Point #2 still applies - a link to the kernel's source must be provided if necessary.
I realize this may have caused links to your favorite custom ROMs to be removed, and I apologize about that. Many of you clearly put a lot of effort into building, maintaining and helping with this index. However, all posts must respect the rules first and foremost.
Please PM me if you have any questions or if you need further clarification.
Thanks for understanding.

Well, I've been using it for 2 days now. I wouldn't call it stable, it has some rough edges, sometimes some system app crashes (like in the beginning I had a problem with the SMS-app), and I've had 2 complete system crashes (forced reboot) while running oruxmaps for navigation & gps-logging with my byclicle.
Check with you, if i installed the custom recovery, and root, can i revert back to stock by flashing via the settings menu or the vol/power button combination and stock rom in load directory?

Well the settings menue doesn't contain the huawei upgrade option in every ROM (for example not in the MUIU ROM), but the volumn up+down while booting will probably work, I haven't tried though. The upgrade directory however has to be call "dload", not "load".
To revert back to a previous ROM I find it much better to use the nandroid backup and recover options that every recovery image I saw yet contains. However be careful, the recovery-v8.img posted on some other places is instable and crashes before the backup is finished. you won't be able to recover such an incomplete backup. Always check if you have some backup complete message, it should NOT reboot automatically after making a backup.

Well the MIUI ROM has much more configuration options, for example you have a statusbar settings page where you can choose between default battery icon, percentage number or the top pixel row in green. Or also the MIUI theme chooser is really nice.
Another useful thing is the permission manager thats included that (if you config it that way) asks you whenever an app tries to use a permission that its defined to require. for example if you have an app that has the permission to send sms then the permission manager will ask you the first time that the app really sends an sms if you want to allow or deny it, and also if you want to save your choice or if it should ask next time again.

Hmm. Well the only ideas I have:
1.) Theres a 2G+3G / 2G only switch, in the MIUI ROM I linked in my first post you can reach it like this:
Home Screen --> Settings --> More... (4th point under the heading Wireless & Networks) --> Mobile Networks --> Only 2G-Networks
If that switch is on, than obviously your phone won't connect to a 3G network
2.) Your not in range of a 3G network?

The ROMs that I know of and that I've tried you find in the first post. I found the loader (=desktop) of the non-MIUI ROMs to be faster and snappier. (However, the MIUI is more feature-rich)
Okay thanks alot I think I'm gonna give MIUI a try. Downloaded the latest version from the MIUI website. Have you tried any CM Release?

Q&A for [ROM][4.4.x][OFFICIAL & NIGHTLIES][EDISON] MoKee OpenSource Project
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM][4.4.x][OFFICIAL & NIGHTLIES][EDISON] MoKee OpenSource Project. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.

Mokee: Problem with Call waiting, hang up and other in call tones
Context:
I use Moto Atrix 2 [edison] running MK44.4-edison-141019-RELEASE.zip
The following observation is from the day I installed Mokee in August 2014
I have similar experience with NIGHTLY ROMs as well. These versions use the modified dialer in google AOSP KitKat.
Problem:
My phone has an irritating tone for call drop/call waiting/ etc.
What I have tried:
I wanted to change the respective tones and hence was looking for .ogg or similar files in the system partition. I found media/audio/ui folder has some .oggs such as lock, unlock, etc. but nothing related to call hangup or waiting. There is no setting to disable the sounds as well.
After a little digging, (disassembling dialer.apk and incallui.apk and reading on the internet) I found that android does not use audio files for such sounds. Rather uses a C++ library to generate sinewaves based on given frequency and duration.
ToneGenerator.java, ToneGenerator.h, ToneGenerator.cpp are crucial in generating these tones. When I compared these files in ICS and Kitkat, i hardly found any changes. (I did not have this problem with Stock ICS)
Later I realized, this problem happens only during a call. e.g the above files also control the DTMF tones of the dial pad. When idle (no call connected), dial tones sound proper. But when in a call and I try to use the dial pad, the same horrible sound is played. This horrible sound is like a very slowed (slow tempo) version of the original tone.
This leads me to believe there is some problem with the incallui (or the section of dialer handling incall events) which probably uses a lot of resource: hence slows down "ToneGeneration" .
I have also tried changing the final variable MAX_VOLUME in ToneGenerator.smali (after disassembling framework.jar) to 50 percent, but it dint lower the volume.
Other Mokee users, please check if you have this problem.
Any idea how I can fix this or atleast change the volume to 0.
Any help would be appreciated.

SnoopSnitch is an Android app that collects and analyzes mobile radio data to make you aware of your mobile network security and to warn
you about threats like fake base stations (IMSI catchers), user tracking and over-the-air updates. With SnoopSnitch you can use the data collected in the GSM Security Map at gsmmap.org and contribute your own data to GSM Map.
This application currently only works on Android phones with a Qualcomm chipset and a stock Android ROM. It requires root priviliges to capture mobile network data.
Requirements:
Qualcomm-based Android phone (see list below)
Stock Android ROM, version 4.1 or later
Note: Unfortunately, custom Android ROMs like CyanogenMod are not supported, as they lack the drivers necessary to collect radio data.
Root privileges on phone
Tested Devices:
The following devices have been verified to work:
Samsung S3 Neo (GT-I9301I)
LG G2 (LG-D802)
Sony Xperia Z1 (C6903)
Samsung S5 (SM-G900F)
Motorola Moto E (Moto E)
Samsung S4 (Qualcomm variant)
It is very likely that other Qualcomm-based Android phones also work, if they are rooted and have a stock firmware.
Incompatible Devices:
The following devices have been found to be incompatible and can not be used with SnoopSnitch:
UNSUPPORTED: Every device without a Qualcomm chipset
UNSUPPORTED: Every device with custom ROM
UNSUPPORTED: Samsung Galaxy S2 & S3
UNSUPPORTED: Nexus 5

Possibly your kernel lacks the necessary support. For instance people with a Nexus 5 can flash this kernel: http://d-h.st/mmb (thanks to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/radio-enable-lte-band-3-nexus-5-d820-t2928561). About what the OP said: I can't see why this app wouldn't work on a custom ROM such as CM11 as long as the kernel has the necessary options.

Well, Carsten Nohl, one of the developers, said yesterday on 31C3, that on CustomROMS like CM certain proprietary drivers are missing, which are needed for getting certain debugging information. Later yesterday in a workshop on 31C3 participants found out, that on some CM11 Phones the app is working.
There the app worked on:
Samsung S3 Neo
Samsung S5
LG G2
Sony Xperia Z1
Motorola Moto E
and dind't work on
Samsung S2, S3, S4 and S5 Exynos
Nexus 5
Fairphone
you can watch the presentation from Nohl on 31C3 here:
http://media.ccc.de/browse/congress...830_-_mobile_self-defense_-_karsten_nohl.html
on my nexus5 with slimkat 8.20 it says:
"device /dev/diag does not exist"
About the compatible devices - I can confirm the app works on on Xperia V with the stock 4.3 Android. It gives no errors, but I have not yet encountered malicious GSM cells to verify the detection works ok.

Sure I did. It doesn't say why we have to call/sms a specific number and why we data can't be gathered from our every day call/sms and why data can't be sent to the test site through the internet rather than call/sms.

Yeah I can (probably) confirm this with Z1 compact with CM 11. Works since day one I guess. The test works (around the first days incoming calls and sms did not, probably because of overload of the callingserver), but never had any sort of attacks. Now I'm in doubt if radio-part does not work with cm 11, as mentioned in the description, or there were zero attacks.
Another thing I observed. The software sometimes produces many wake-locks. But I guess thats normal if backgroundservice is active.
@ papperlapapp: Did you monitor any attacks (SS7 or silent sms)? Or even IMSI-catchers?
Installed the app without problems on my S5 with Phoenix ROM (Stock Based). However, when I start the active test, the app stops responding and android asks me several times if I want to close it. I chose no every time. Now I'm wondering if the tests are still running in the background or if the app just hang. Started the tests about 35 min ago, still waiting, absoluteley nothing happened yet.
Why not install something like https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=monitor&fdid=com.eolwral.osmonitor and see if that task is stil running?
Usefull tool anyway
happy monitoring

Possibly your kernel lacks the necessary support. For instance people with a Nexus 5 can flash this kernel: http://d-h.st/mmb (thanks to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/radio-enable-lte-band-3-nexus-5-d820-t2928561). About what the OP said: I can't see why this app wouldn't work on a custom ROM such as CM11 as long as the kernel has the necessary options.

Will this kernel work on Nexus 5 with lollipop 5.01 ? I notice the file name is specific for android 4.4.2

I don't know. Just try, at worst you'll have to reflash the old kernel back.

The request that you make is intended to be for the purpose of having a collection of development ideas from the amazing XDA community, all in one place. This will give developers a single place to go to get ideas, see what people are wanting, and possibly get involved in helping to build something. I will soon be looking for small development projects myself, just to gain experience and knowledge before I move on to my bigger personal projects. Other members are looking for projects at this very moment, both big and small. I hope that this will be a place where developers and members can all join together and share their ideas and talents!
So if you would like to see your idea become a reality in the future, then please post your request today (custom kernels, recoveries, ROM's, apps, Xposed modules, tweaks, scripts, .zip files, root, bootloader unlock, themes, mods, tools, etc., or something completely new)! Some things could be very quick and easy to develop. A script, Xposed module, etc., could be developed with very little work involved (sometimes). Replies from developers are not anticipated and they are not standing by to fulfill your every request (especially if you have that random device with no developer support anywhere, as in some cases the developer would need to have the same device as you do). Please remember that there is no guarantee that anyone will be able to develop the request that you have, or that it is even possible. Any modifications done to your device is done at your own risk, so please make a nandroid backup prior to any changes.
Here are a couple example requests. Remember that if you want your post to even be looked at seriously you must include plenty of details. Feel free to follow these examples to keep this thread clean and informative...
Device: Sprint Galaxy S3 (ND8)
ROM: Latest CM 12.1 nightly (Android 5.1.1)
Rooted: Yes
Recovery: TWRP 2.8.7.0
Request: Silent mode for ringer volume
Reason: Volume goes to vibrate, but not all the way to silent like when I was on android 4.4.2. When I am in a meeting, vibrate mode is still audible in a quiet room
Other: Willing to donate $10 to a developer for a solution to this
Device: Sprint Galaxy S8
ROM: Stock (Android 7.0)
Rooted: No
Recovery: Stock recovery
Request: Looking for root
Reason: Many people are looking for a way to root this device and no one has been able to do it yet
Other: I would be very thankful if someone could find a solution to this. I do not have this device, but my sister does

something along the lines of tails/anonymousOS , unaROM , omni , etc.
there is a "pure" AOSP lolli rom which i consider a step forward and thank you to the dev and maintainer. if interested can find here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3208859

am certainly no developer myself but could potentially "guiena pig" a test build.
thanks for reading.
thanks for a great idea for a thread.

Request: another app like Xblast...http://http://forum.xda-developers....d-xblasttools-quiethours-centerclock-t2294419
Reason: this was coolest app for customization, but less and less works on cm nightlies and i cant go back to kk. only a couple things work now and i finally gave up on it.
Other: i would donate a couple bucks if it was similar enough
Device: All devices using tapatalk
Request: Xposed module or something that will display signatures on xda
Reason: Many people using tapatalk always say to others, "i cant see ur sig. im using tapatalk. i feel like this could be solved by a module or something that auto enters it as reg text at the bottom of each post u make. although gifs and img may not work, at least it would be most of a sig showing
Other: i dont use tapatalk but this or something similar would be a neat project and maybe easy
Device: Any
Request: program that will show u who is watching ur items on ebay
Reason: it would be awesome to know who is watching utems so u can message them or make them an offer they cant refuse to sell quick! idk if its possible but it would be cool!

Please is there anyway to make a flashable script or cron script that will make @zeppelinrox sclean(clear dalvik cache) script run once every week from the xbin or bin folder?
I bought this tab in mid 2015 and it is showing its age. Wanted to see whats available for the device but couldn't find anything on this device although there is thread for A7-30 variant here.
These Lenovo Tabs have many variants with minor differences such as A7-10, A7-20, A7-30 all 7' ones and the 8" ones have A8 in their names. I have the A7-20F (F stands for Wifi only version, there is another with SIM facility whose identifier I don't remember right now) so most of the testing I will do with be applicable to this one.
I'm collating all available resources here since info on this old device is hard to come by. Ff there is anyone else who would like to join and may find useful later on. I'm new to android hacking so this may be slow on progress.
P.S: Links may contain software which is not tested/not working/unofficial/unstable software. Do not flash them without any backup plans for recovery if something goes wrong. This is a work-in-progress thread.
Known Issues:
1. The tab is reported to have ghost touch issues. Many have reported on the official forums. I myself am facing the same problem. Ghost touches are reported around the top edges where I also am seeing on my tab. People have reported updating drivers resolve it. I use the Partial Screen app as a workaround for the time being.
2. Some people have reported that the stock Lollipop ROM for this device is buggy. Will stay with stock Kitkit for the time being.

Needed to upgrade my T2 A7 20f to Lollipop to continue running a specific app and tried a few different approaches with varying success. The CM12.1 ROM is under-done and full of problems and so is the T2 A7 10f stock ROM. There are screen rendering issues (poor quality) and battery charging issues. Seems that we really need to stick to a ROM based on the 20f to get decent functionality. After a lot of looking, found this link from Lenovo support:
A7-20F_USR_S000024_1605111428_MP1V1_BMAIN_ROW.rar
drive.google.com
This is version T2-A7-20F_USR_S000024_1605111428_MP1V1_BMAIN_ROW
ROW in China speak means Rest Of World i.e. not China version.
It downloads O.K and installs O.K using the included SPFlash tool.
Maybe useful to those still running this clunker?
Best if someone provides a more permanent home for this ROM before it disappears
