whats wrong with this?? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

what the hell is going on with this phone, it reboots every 5 min, i just got it from tmobile and since i got it freezes, reboots with no stops!!!!!!!

It's odd you got one acting that way after getting it from the store! I'm surprised they didn't turn it on & test it with you prior to letting you walk out. Regardless, make sure you have a copy of your contacts and any other data you put on there already. If you're synching your contacts with T-Mobile or Google, you're good to go there. Then go into Settings, Prvacy, and select Factory Data Reset.
If you go through that and it's still acting up, I'd take it back and get a replacement.

well to make you the story short, the phone was a replacement from t-mobile i had the samsung vibrant and the phone bricked, they didn't have more vibrants so they send me this one,i install the tw 4.5 launcher,do you thing thats the problem or it can be that i install a kj1 kernel in a kj6 rom???

The KJ1 kernel works fine with the KJ6 ROM. I've not ever changed launchers so I really can't speak to it, but if the phone is up and running then I wouldn't worry too much

if it is, it sucks
If the problem persist, you should called TMO

no is a brand new one,out of the box and everything, but i think is the launcher, because every time i was going to make a change in the theme and then restart the launcher the phone would freeze and reboot by itself, now is not doing it because i haven't make a change so hopefully is that, what rom do you guys recommend me to flash??

I hear good things about Octane & Valhalla Final & Valhalla Black. I've not tried any of them, though.

Wait, so your phone came rooted out of the box?

Assuming you're rather familiar with rooting and everything, why don't you just Odin a GB ROM over the faulty system? Use the 1-Click Gremlin Remover by thomas.raines.
In regards to TW4, I don't recall the SGS4G being able to work with that, but I think I do remember TW4.5. Not sure if there's even a difference.
Use GO Launcher EX. It's practically the best launcher out there now.

black bar on top ...

has anyone created just a black status bar? I really don't want to install any ROMS at the moment (I am rooted).
Thanks!
It looks nice, I'm waiting for the unrooted CM7 or whatever, I'm rooted but afraid to download any ROMs

1. Cm7 is rooted.
2. Why would you be scared?

I thought the new cm7 comes out for unrooted users instead of having to go ito ROM manager and what-not to get it?
And that's why I'm worried... I'm not really that tech-savvy with this stuff, so I'm hesitant on installing anything.. don't want to brick my phone
Someone will write a updated for the framework-res soon enough. I wonder how it will look with lcd bleeding.
Why flash an entire custom rom for just a black status bar?

You have to be rooted to flash anything. Rom manager isnt ready yet, but clockwork recovery works just fine. And you cant brick a phone by flashing a rom.

Honestly more people should be like you. If you're not comfortable doing the things you see on this forum like rooting, using a custom recovery and flashing roms it's best that you refrain from doing so. A lot of people mess stuff up and don't have enough knowledge to fix it, then panic and cause more problems for themselves.
I was extremely timid with my g1, but now 2 phones later I'm much more comfortable messing with this stuff. The best advice I can give is for you to just read all kinds of stuff on these forums until you get a good idea about what different things do and how they can help and/or hurt what you want to do with your phone, then decide for yourself if you want to proceed.
And yes, like the last poster said, CM is only available to root users. You might be thinking of Gingerbread (Android 2.3) which will be available to non-root users "soon" according to tmobile.
Hope this helps ya out man.
Thanks a lot guys, yes I used ROM manager and it didn't work and it got me stuck at the LG sign when rebooting, and I panicked, so I exchanged my phone.
Got a new one, rooted it for whatever reason - maybe just to freeze bloatware.
I'll just wait for the Gingerbread. I just hope it solves the battery problem? 0_o I'm a stickler for battery, so I need to know soon because I'll just return my phone and get a different one (possibly a blackberry since the battery was always good on my old one), just always wanted to adventure into a smartphone

actually u can brick a phone JUST by flashing a ROM...unlikely given some reasonable intelligence...but it does happen...radios...radios..radios...also...kernels...
I'd say the best method is to just wait for the Official Gingerbread update from LG.
Flashing roms is fun and easy but not everyone has to be a crackflasher. CM7 will never be available for unrooted phones as you have to be rooted to flash it.
The G2x is very new and ClockWorkMod recovery isn't even ready for prime time yet. I would hold off at least until CWM Recovery has a decent automated boot process for our phones.
As far as bleeding screens, you WILL be able to see it with the all black bar. I have 2 G2x's here which 1 I haven't returned yet and has a screen bleed. It is noticeable. I did conclude that the "Sense-themed" bar in Eaglesblood isn't noticeable because of the contrasting colors. So take that with some consideration.

[Q] Serendipity VII Infuse questions

As I am a noob and have fewer than 10 posts ill post my question here and hopefully get some feedback.
I did a clean install of Serendipity VII, about 10hours ago and I love it but with one fault.
The captivate version of this rom had the power button camera, but the infuse version has a new skinned camera(which I like) but the power button has the same functionality as a stock infuse.
Is my experience unique or is there a reason the camera mod has been left off this build?
Thank you for this great rom
It's the SGS II camera app.
I shall look into the power button mod for this camera.

Chat with (I think) lemons on IRC. I believe he's the one that did the initial camera hacks for Froyo.
Sorry to change the topic at hand but I also have a small question and didn't want to clog up the forums with a new thread. I tried installing the Samsung email apk from the website and it would not install. Any reason or is there something I am doing wrong?
Also...is there a way to make the lockscreen light up whenever you receive a text message with this ROM?

If you use GoSMS Pro (don't worry, it's free) there is an option to make the screen light up upon receiving a text.
You can set it to even automatically unlock the screen if that's something you want.
As for stock messaging, no idea. Sorry.

Serendipity is overwriting the kernel - so flash it then flash the GB kernel of your choice. Infusion-GB has overclock and undervolt but is missing a few important fixes (bedwa will be pulling them in soon though), my daily driver has UV but no OC but has most important fixes integrated (I'll be posting an update for that soon) and some experimental battery charging stuff, Hellraiser beta6 has a fairly mature kernel with all of the important fixes in it and a few I/O schedulers and clock governors not in Infusion or my DD kernels yet. IMO Hellraiser kernels are your best choice right now and I believe S7 comes with LB's latest Hellraiser kernel.
Why is this not in Q&A???

Good day.
I have 2 issues after installing this rom. First one, I can't receive phone calls. I can make them and also send and receive sms but not the phone calls. It rings once (sometimes it never rings or does nothing) and then I notice that the signals goes completely out and I have to wait a few seconds until I get the signal back. Second issue, when I press the power button I get the menu but when I press on RECOVERY the Infuse just reboots and never goes to Recovery mode.
Please help me with these 2 issues. I'm a total noob although I have read a lot.
Thanks in advance!

Bad flash most likely. Especially if you can't enter Recovery.
Use SGS Kernel Flasher to flash a known-good kernel (such as my Daily Driver or Infusion), then enter Recovery. Reflash S7, and make sure to Wipe Data/Factory Reset after flashing. Also redownload S7 via your PC prior to flashing - your ZIP was probably mis-downloaded.

If it's your GF's phone, I wouldn't flash gingerbread just yet. It can be tricky, and it has weaker wifi connection.
I would root the phone, uninstall some bloatware, and then get the cwm recover files in place (DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER). Then flash drhonk's bali3.3UV kernel from here, and enable voodoo lagfix ext4 partitions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080871
I ran this setup for a while on my phone, and it was great - oem, fast, and stable. If she wants a bit more options and flare, you can flash the ICBINB froyo rom also.
I'm gonna have to try that when she gets the replacemnt Monday thanks again everyone you been a tremendous help

So if I follow what you said to do right here, she have the original android that came on the phone(puzzle piece lockscreen and all) with less bloat and what seems to be a better kernel?

yep!
unroot with superoneclick. then you can install titanium backup and remove a lot of bloatware that comes on the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025610
Then you can install cwm recovery.zip and the recovery file - you'll need to push the files into the correct directories using a file explorer that has root access (I use "root explorer").
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374
From there you boot into recovery (turn phone off, then hold volume up + volume down, and press the power button while still holding the volume buttons). choose "reinstall packages" and you then have CWM. At this point, it would be a good idea to backup your rom, using the backup feature. Then you can "install from zip file" and flash kernels, roms, and modems that are on your SD card. Here's the Bali UV kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080871
when you are done, you can even go back to superoneclick, and UNroot to lock the phone down again.
good luck!

USB Debugging not functioning.

Hello guys, this is my first post so hi there. First of all I lurked this site for quite sometime but finally a decent need to make a account arose. I rooted my phone, Galaxy S 4G obviously, with intentions to put a custom ROM on there. I couldn't tell you which ROM it was as I forgot. But one of the higher rated ones available for this model. I was 2.2 at the time. I mistakenly flashed it to the official 2.3 ROM (from Samsung) and at first there were no issues. Until I realized I needed to flash it again because Superuser wouldn't work. Okay no issue. I go and turn USB debugging on so I can root it. I plug the phone it my computer via USB and the debugging icon doesn't show up. I tried unplugging and replugging it while turning the setting off and on. I don't know what to do. Stock ROM is pretty buggy on here. Any help is appreciated.
If your on GB the debug icon doesn't show in the status bar. If you turn it on from the phone rest assured it's on.
I wanna believe that. But when I used...Superoneclick I think the rooting didn't work. I'll have another go at it however.
EDIT: Well, my phone didn't even recognize my phone plugged in however I could turn on USB storage...could be apart of it.
I haven't used super one click in a while but I'm pretty sure if you are trying to root GB you have to use hte most recent version of SOC. If that doesn't work you can always flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380331through heimdell. Or flash one of honks kernels through odin.
I'm rooting my phone as we speak, and I uninstalled superuser because I was getting pissed off how slow my phone was. Is there any good ROMS for this phone that increases performance?

I have my eye on that Valhalla black edition, but a lot of my decision goes into the UI. Black Edition apparently has a decent ICS launcher. Which makes me interested as ICS reminds me a lot of the Windows Phone UI to some extent.
Octane 3.0 looks a lot like ICS as well. Can anybody help me with the pros and cons of each? I need something to discuss while my phone is rooted. It takes forever.
Should I be worried my screen won't turn on in the middle of rooting it?...
Once your rooted and get cwm just take Ihelpers suggestion and try a few ROMS and decide for yourself. It's hard to give someone suggestions about personal preference. I really like IPA's but my best freind prefers Pilsner. You get the idea.
Before I delve to deep in that....It says running rageagainsthecage. Okay cool, my phone vibrates to tell me its done charging, okay cool. The screen won't turn back on. What damage could I do if I pull the battery?
EDIT: went ahead and did it. Did not brick. I honestly didn't know what would happen if I did so don't judge me D: but, I went ahead and tried it again. Got up to the same point, and then my computer stopped reading my phone for a second. My computer recognizes it right now but superoneclick still says waiting for device....
How long have you had it going? I remember it taking alot longer than I thought it should. But that was on froyo. Don't pull the battery unless your absolutely sure it's not working. If that's the case study up on ODIN or heimdell.

I guarantee it froze, I know its not rooted. But gonna try superuser and see what happens. After I rooted on froyo it was really slow until I rebooted.
If it boots up just DL root ckecker from the market. Run it and it will tell you whether it's rooted or not.
Weird, Superuser doesn't autoclose yet it says my device isn't rooted.
No root for you! Seriously look at my 4th post and just go one of those routes(or roots). Take your time and remember to enjoy a nice IPA along the way.
It keeps looping and stops recognizing. Guess I'll use another method to root. I think I might just do that tomorrow. Getting up there into the night.
Any other method of rooting thats simple and reliable(main reason I liked SOC) Also very odd bug where the screen would come on for no reason, just odd.

Heimdall my kernel. Search the general forum for '[REF]' and you'll find a thread I started about rooting. Either will get you root, but my kernel will get you cwm.

Well, gonna try one SOC one last time, gonna let it go and I'ma go grab a ice tea from my convenience store, which would take 30 minutes, how long on average for this phone would it take?

[Q] I have had it with this horrible phone. Help me get a good flash for once.

In the life of this phone, I have easily flashed a good 15-20 different Roms onto the device and used most of them for a decent amount of time. NO ROM has ever worked very good at all. The best luck I have ever had were with a couple like Valhalla and Octane that would work pretty decent for a couple months then the problems would always return in full force. Again, EVERY single rom has gotten extremely annoying problems eventually. I have had it with this phone.
I don't know what I could be missing here, as I have tried multiple times to start completely fresh from stock and wipe everything before and after a flash, but nothing works. The current ROM was installed after an sd card format, full wipe, wiped caches, etc... Right now it will randomly exit the messaging app frequently, has wifi problems, apps force close, random restarts, it often won't upload/download things because it says it doesn't have an sd card, and to top it off, CWM is having problems and will get stuck on a screen with just a picture and no words.
This phone is borderline unusable for its stability and other issues and I am tired of trying to make it work well. I am not even new to flashing roms, but this phone is a headache. Someone, please help me figure out what is wrong with this phone.
Even with these problems and my long rant here, this would still be a great phone and should have plenty of life left in it. I had minimal problems with my old SGS Captivate that I had before this, so I don't know what is wrong. Perhaps a piece of hardware is faulty? I would highly doubt that. I need help!
Use the GB Starter Pack. If you are using Titanium to put everything back, it may lead to problems. I remember a couple of times where restoring all my apks and data with Titanium caused a soft boot or force close cycle.

I stopped using TB a long time ago. That would not be the problem.
What ROM are you currently using right now. Maybe see if you can take a log of it to find out why the things Messaging might not be working?

It is currently on the non-themed Octane 3.0. I don't have the phone next to me right now, but can you explain the process for taking a log?
It sounds like you've wasted too much time trying flashing roms and trying to make the piece of crap perfect than actually using the phone. As much as I hate the stock of this phone, I will suggest using the one click kj6 heimdall then root it and voodoo no tweaks. Also start from fresh and try octane v3.0 w/o tweaks or kernal updates.

I hope that helps you out. There are some apps on the market like CatLog and aLogcat that also take logs if the guide doesn't work for you.

Im not trying to make it perfect at all. I am just trying to make it usable. It is extremely annoying when all you want to do is create a message but the app constantly force closes no matter what you do. The dialer has had the same closing problem also. Or the frequent rebooting multiple times a day. Like I said, I have had a few good flashes, but they only last for a few months until the problems come back.
To me, it seems as if though you are having some cache problems. Start fresh. Flash to froyo and try. If that doesn't work, then take your phone to t-mobile, because that is a hardware problem. I have been using the same rom for a month or two now (latest beta version of my AOSP Style) and I haven't had a single fc. I have even used processor tweaks and whatnot. SO before you cuss this phone out, I suggest you try my solution, it is guaranteed to work.
Oh yeah, as air said, it might actually be a hardware problem.

I have flashed back to froyo already, unfortunately. And there isn't a contract on the phone anyway. Do you know what piece of hardware would cause this though?
Not really sure, but if you are back to stock, I'd try to exchange it for another phone. I've had this phone since June (also not on contract), and I haven't had any of the problems you've had. Yes, I do need to reboot my phone every once in a while because bluetooth sticks and won't come on, but that's about it.
Usually, after I flash a rom and restore my programs/theme, I'll go back into cwm, wipe cache, wipe, dalvik, fix permissions, and then reboot and let the phone sit for a while. That usually takes care of making sure everything works right.
