How can I get the LG froyo camera back?

Is it possible to take a certain app or program from a certain rom and like pull it from the rom and install it on a rooted phone? I just rooted my g2x and I want the old LG froyo camera back. Can it get pulled from another rom and installed on my phone without my flashing a new rom?[

Rooted but on gingerbread? Head on over to the development section and check out flak0's mod... Just download it and flash away... Wait! You have clockwork recovery right?

generally: yes. However, the LG camera is a special case and a lot of work has gone into making it work on gingerbread. It is possible but you'll need a specific mod over in the Development board.

Yes on gingerbread and yes I have the clockwork recovery mod. I'm familiar with this stuff but not an expert, so sorry if these are noob questions but I checked out the thread and there is a bunch of links for the camera. Which one do I download? Im guessing the 3.0 one but Im not sure. And thats the actual cam that I am going to flash on my phone right? Not a new mod? and do I flash it on my phone just like the clockwork mod? I mean the same exact process? Or is this just like an .apk that I install? Can you please help me through the process of getting it on my phone?

Yeah the 3.0 is the one you want.
Just flash it in Clockwork the way you would flash any rom or kernel.
Before you flash though make sure to wipe cache and dalvik, and just to be safe fix permissions afterwards.
Just to make sure we're on the same page... You flashed clockwork via the NVflash method, right?
and then to get into clockwork to flash other stuff such as roms and this camera, you hold volume down and power from a powered off state, correct?

Yes I am on clockwork via NVflash. I'm still a bit confused. Sorry if I wasnt clear before. See, the clockwork thing was the only and first thing I flashed. I never flashed a rom or anything. I followed the instructions to root exactly how I saw them. Obviously one step was to flash the clockwork mod. Thats how far my experience with flashing goes. So Im not exactly sure what to do to flash the cam on my phone. I put it on my sd card Im assuming right? Then I do the hold volume down and power to get to whatever that screen is called? After that do I just go to "install zip from sdcard" and look for it? Thats what I assumed but I have no idea why I have to wipe cache or what dalvik is? and why/how do I fix permissions after?

Two questions:
1) What version of clockwork are your running?
2) How did you achieve root if the only thing you've ever flashed is clockwork?

I followed those steps.

So then you have flashed something in CWM... you flashed the root zip, no?
The same way you flashed the root zip is the same way ur gonna flash the camera, I guess since its not a rom or kernel you don't need to bother wiping catch and fixing permissions:
-Boot into CWM with vol down and power
-select install zip from sd card
-find the camera 3.0 zip on ur sd card, install
-reboot, enjoy
For future reference, when ur ready to flash a custom rom or kernel, add 3 more steps to this process:
-Boot into CWM
-wipe catch partition (in the case that your going from a 2.3.3 rom to a CM7 based rom, this step changes to "wipe data/factory reset")
-advanced, wipe dalvik catch
-install zip from sd card
-find zip and install it
-advanced, fix permissions

Yes. However, don't try to flash the LG cam over a CM7-based rom, as it won't work. 2.3.3 based roms are ok.

Which ROM is the best? I am seriously thinking about flashing a new rom on my phone. I never was but I guess flashing is like a drug, do it once and you'll wanna do it more. well atleast for me lol. I'm asking this because I was looking through the rom options in the other forum and I read something about needing to flash a kernel to overclock, then I saw a CM7 kernel with an overclock preset? Confused me a little. I can flash any rom I want and overclock myself right? Will all roms have a kernel that supports overclocking?
Can you give me the best rom/kernel to flash based what I'm looking for? I would like to overclock to atleast 1.2(Whats the highest I can do without it becoming dangerous for the phone?). I want no bloatware, can a rom free up internal memory? if so, I want that, faster then stock performance and better battery life. The LG camera or atleast a cam app that is better then stock android. I also want stablity in performance. Just for a reference, I was looking at Weapon rom, seems like the best to me, but then again I am new to the whole rom game. I know its based on personal taste, but I would like a little push in the right direction so I dont have to do trial and error with roms.

that is near the same camera, likely the same developers.
Only thing is I think the steady feature was an option on all photo modes on Froyo LG, where here its a specific option itself. I don't remember well enough the old one.

Rooting Nexus S [Help]

A while back, I always rooted and unrooted my Nexus S with no problems at all. Now whenever I try to root it, it just goes wrong. I've tried TWRP & CWM, CWM used to always work but now it just messes up. Both TWRP and CWM both give me an error that say Installation Aborted when I try to install a custom rom. I've redownloaded the rom from different browsers and even different PCs but nothing working, still that same error. Does anyone have a guide that is 100% to work without any errors during the process?

1. Make sure you're running one the more recent versions of the custom recovery. You probably are but there are issues with older versions so just make sure.
2. Boot into what ever recovery you pick and do a full wipe. That is everything gets wiped but your SD card. Factory reset. Format /system etc.
3. Flash your ROM and gapps if they are seperate.
You should not get any errors. If your recovery is current and your flashing a new rom onto a fully wiped system and you still get a error either you're screwing something up or you may have a hardware problem.
To rule out a hw problem flash the factory images with fastboot. If those flash normally and everything works it is almost certainly user error.

Alright, thanks Do you recommend that I root my Nexus S or should I wait for the Jelly Bean update? I've rooted before and I enjoyed it but now I don't see that many reasons to root, do you have any good reasons?

I have many. My reasons for root don't matter. If you don't have a reason for root then don't root. Its that simple really.
Make sure you're on a stock 4.0.4 rom. When the ota is out install it.
If you want just root on either os at any time just flash su.zip from custom recovery. Its that simple. Having root on a stock rom does not affect the ota process.

What are your reasons for root? Please share?

Getting rid of stuff I don't want in a ROM.
Apps that do things that require root.Titanium backup/autoruns adaway ( ad blocker app alone could be its one point) etc
Changing kernel settings. Bid/bin clocks volts etc.
Being able to have a replacement launcher use the ICS style widget drawer.
Lastly , I simply just can't see having a computer that I don't have root/admin rights to. Its my damn device and I do what I want.

Oh cool. There is this project that some members from XDA are working on called Sense4All and they are porting Sense to many devices. Im probably going to wait until a fully functionable release is available for the Nexus S. I do like AOKP a lot, so that might be a reason for why I'll root.

You seem to be a little confused with some terms. Root is simply being able to grant superuser permission.
You don't need to root to flash a custom rom on a nexus. Just a unblocked bootloader. You could run aokp or any other rom without root if you wanted to.

Oh, I never knew that, haha. Is it possible to flash a custom kernel with an unlocked bootloader or does that require root access?

How to start?

Hi!
I just bought Nexus S i9023 and don't know how to start flashing roms, kernels etc. I was reading about that I must unlock bootloader first, flash cwm recovery and then i can finally flashing roms. Is it right? I have few questions about this device, here they are:
1. How are kernels flash? Is it flashing by recovery like update.zip?
2. I have Gingerbread currently, but I want to update to JB, can I first off apply the update in recovery or I have to update to ICS first? Can you provide me a link to updates?
3. http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/9ZGgDXDi.zip this is JellyBean for i9023, right?
4. What are the kernel and rom combo most stable and fast?
5. Internal memory is working like a SD card, so if I will make a nandroid backup, it will not erase my data while doing full wipe ... ?
6. I'm currently using my private MIUI GB on my Xperia X8, which was ported from SGS. Is there any multilanguage MIUI GB rom anywhere?
7. Which is the flashing order? Kernels first? Or roms?

Yes, you must unlock the bootloader, which will wipe EVERYTHING on your phone before you can flash your desired recovery and root. Kernels are flashed through recovery, after a ROM is flashed, otherwise it will generally be overwritten if a new ROM is flashed. No need to go to ICS to get to jb if you are flashing a full ROM. The memory referred to as internal is not what is used as an SD card. The SD/USB memory is the external memory. A nandroid doesn't back this up.

I just picked up a secondhand i9020T. It's running stock jelly bean, but it looks like the previous owner had some custom ROMs installed. The bootloader is unlocked and clockwork mod recovery is installed. I don't seem to have root access. Can I just flush a full ROM, like CM10 through clockwork even though I don't have root access? Will doing that provide root in CM10, or is that going to cause a problem. Thanks.

You might could get by just flashing cm10 and gapps, but I would start by flashing superuser, or super su for jb.

So i'm a little confused. The stock rom as of now has the superuser app, but when I open something that tried to pull root access (titanium backup or root checker for example) the superuser app does not come up, and root access is not available. Thoughts? When I flashed ROMs on my old transform, root seemed to travel with the kernel - but I just want to make sure I can flash a rooted ROM+kernel through recovery without having root access. Sorry if these questions are a bit naive - I'm trying to work through the other guides and Q+A to try to figure this out, but I'm still not clear. Also, sorry for sort of hijacking your thread, but the topic seemed like a good fit. Thanks in advance for all help.

Last question, if I flashed JellyBean based rom, can I flash Gingerbread based by following the steps like formatting system etc. in recovery previously?

The su app from the play store is just an app. as you found, flashing the su zip is the only way to actually get the su access.
Anytime you flash a new rom, it is highly recommended that you perform a full wipe, after making a nandroid, of course. The steps I follow are factory reset/data wipe (this will also take care of cache & dalvic cache since they are on the data partition) then go to mind and storage to format /system & /boot.
If you haven't already I suggest using titanium backup & the pro key if you can. I have it set to automatically backup everything every 2 days, and I also make a new one each time I get ready to flash anything. Don't restore any system apps per data off you change roms though. The only reason I backup the system stuff is so I can restore my texts & call log with the proper time stamps.

From unrooted Gingerbread Arc to Ultimate HD rom

I'm new to rooting/modding/roms, and I wanna install the awesome Ultimate HD rom on my locked, unrooted Xperia Arc LT15i:
Gingerbread
Android Version: 2.3.4
Build: 4.0.2
I don't know where to start.

sorry but when you unlock the bootloader, the sd card must be wiped not matter how you do it.
You can take out the sd card when you unlock the bootloader, that might work.

Now I'm wondering what the next step is before I can install the Ultimate rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920207)
Is it possible to go straight from unlocked Gingerbread to an ICS based rom? Can I now just put the rom zip on my sd and install via CWM?
Or do I need to do something with a Kernel or something first?

nope you need a ics based kernel, usually the rom includes the kernel, but not always, I don't have an arc so I can't recommend what kernel you should use. Anyway, it seems that there is kernel included. You will need this flash tool if you don't have it already

here are the instructions
click the lightning icon,
plug in you device into fastboot mode
click fastboot mode and okay
click select kernel to flash
choose you img file
and reboot
some points to remember.
flashing will wipe your all your app data but won't touch any pictures or movie files; always make a nandriod backup
remember to wipe data/ factory reset before flashing
wiping cache and davik cache won't hurt either

yes you can flash any kernel even if your rom is not compatible with it, you just won't be able to boot up if you have a ics kernel and a gingerbread rom, however you will just need to flash the ics rom to get it working.
oh and remember that many kernels require you to flash modules in order to get things like wifi

So If I flash an ICS kernel first, from my unlocked GB, I can't boot the phone? But how can I install the rom then?

you can boot the phone normally but you will be able to boot to recovery, press volume down and the power button.
for wifi modlues, just flash it like a rom, but remember to flash it after flashing the rom.

Oh okay. Does the (Arcknight) kernel already incluid CWM? Or do I have to install CWM before flashing? Because when I flash the kernel, it's a factory reset so CWM will be deleted, right?
Also, can I take out the sd card before flashing the kernel to make 100% sure my data wont be lost?

nope the cwm (or twrp) is part of the kernel so doing a factory reset will not delete it.
In fact do you the wiping with cwm.
And yes the kernel already has the cwm.

if its based on asop it should have the language

Rooted Stock ROM, trying to update TWRP and flash a new custom ROM

Ok so I figure I'll just ask since there is so much old information, and dead links or links that lead to no real answers. I'm already rooted and on a stock rom. Build number is LMY48C. I tried flashing a new TWRP version, 3.2.3.0 official version, but every time I try to reboot to recovery it just stays on the Nvidia logo. I can boot back to the tablet and flash my old version, 2.8.7.1 and everything works fine. But nothing remotely new will flash with that version lol. Any ideas of what I'm missing? Thanks in advance for anyone that can help, I'm sure it's something stupidly easy that I'm messing up lol.

I'd recommend flashing back to stock using the latest Nvidia image...then allow it to upgrade itself...they only have 5.2 available on their site...after it upgrades you'll have the newest bootloader...then in fastboot flash your recovery.
Make sure you're bootloader unlocked the whole time! And don't lock it...leave it unlocked.
You should be good to go after that.
Extra info...I'm on LOS 14.1 using opengapp (custom config so it only installs what I want)
I also flash a few other things but everything is working on my shield....even Nvidia Games

Thanks for the reply. I was honestly just hoping there was a way to flash the newest bootloader without going to stock, but it looks like that's not an option. Ohh well, One more question, since you're actually on u custom ROM, does HDMI out work? I use that a lot with my TV haha.

If you want the easy quick way then you could pull the bootloader from the newest 15.1 zip as steel included it....flash the bootloader through fastboot and then proceed to flash twrp then wipe wipe wipe and install whatever rom you wanted...I still suggest 14.1 and yes the HDMI works.

Thanks for the reply, computer was messed up so couldn't see this sooner lol. Anyway, since I have no idea how to just pull the bootloader from a file, I'll have to do the whole thing it seems. Thanks for your reply ^_^
