generally: yes. However, the LG camera is a special case and a lot of work has gone into making it work on gingerbread. It is possible but you'll need a specific mod over in the Development board.

I'm familiar with this stuff but not an expert, so sorry if these are noob questions but I checked out the thread and there is a bunch of links for the camera. Which one do I download? Im guessing the 3.0 one but Im not sure. And thats the actual cam that I am going to flash on my phone right? Not a new mod? and do I flash it on my phone just like the clockwork mod? I mean the same exact process? Or is this just like an .apk that I install? Can you please help me through the process of getting it on my phone?

Yeah the 3.0 is the one you want.
Just flash it in Clockwork the way you would flash any rom or kernel.
Before you flash though make sure to wipe cache and dalvik, and just to be safe fix permissions afterwards.

and then to get into clockwork to flash other stuff such as roms and this camera, you hold volume down and power from a powered off state, correct?

Yes I am on clockwork via NVflash. I'm still a bit confused. Sorry if I wasnt clear before. See, the clockwork thing was the only and first thing I flashed. I never flashed a rom or anything. I followed the instructions to root exactly how I saw them. Obviously one step was to flash the clockwork mod. Thats how far my experience with flashing goes. So Im not exactly sure what to do to flash the cam on my phone. I put it on my sd card Im assuming right? Then I do the hold volume down and power to get to whatever that screen is called? After that do I just go to "install zip from sdcard" and look for it? Thats what I assumed but I have no idea why I have to wipe cache or what dalvik is? and why/how do I fix permissions after?

So then you have flashed something in CWM... you flashed the root zip, no?
The same way you flashed the root zip is the same way ur gonna flash the camera, I guess since its not a rom or kernel you don't need to bother wiping catch and fixing permissions:
-Boot into CWM with vol down and power
-select install zip from sd card
-find the camera 3.0 zip on ur sd card, install
-reboot, enjoy
For future reference, when ur ready to flash a custom rom or kernel, add 3 more steps to this process:
-Boot into CWM
-wipe catch partition (in the case that your going from a 2.3.3 rom to a CM7 based rom, this step changes to "wipe data/factory reset")
-advanced, wipe dalvik catch
-install zip from sd card
-find zip and install it
-advanced, fix permissions

Yes. However, don't try to flash the LG cam over a CM7-based rom, as it won't work. 2.3.3 based roms are ok.

Which ROM is the best? I am seriously thinking about flashing a new rom on my phone. I never was but I guess flashing is like a drug, do it once and you'll wanna do it more. well atleast for me lol. Confused me a little. I can flash any rom I want and overclock myself right? Will all roms have a kernel that supports overclocking?

I want no bloatware, can a rom free up internal memory? if so, I want that, faster then stock performance and better battery life. The LG camera or atleast a cam app that is better then stock android. I also want stablity in performance. Just for a reference, I was looking at Weapon rom, seems like the best to me, but then again I am new to the whole rom game. I know its based on personal taste, but I would like a little push in the right direction so I dont have to do trial and error with roms.

Only thing is I think the steady feature was an option on all photo modes on Froyo LG, where here its a specific option itself. I don't remember well enough the old one.

So ive alpharev'd my DS. Just wondering if anyone can help me with what to do next. Ive never normally had a problem before (rooted/goldcarded/custom ROM/stock ROM the HTC Hero/Desire and Desire HD before with no problems) but i cant seem to figure out where to go next with the DS. Im after installing a stock ROM woth no bloatware from any carriers.
Do i goldcard and then go for it or is there something else? I dont really want to just go for it and brick my phone.

Rather than instal a stock rom, why not instal a custom rom that's based on a the stock rom like LBC MOD?

Its not that i dont see the benefits of a custom ROM, its just this one is going to be my mrs' phone and im pretty sure there's no way she'll ever need/use anything that a custom ROM has to offer. Which one would you recommend for someone in her shoes? Would need one that didnt overwhelm her with random stuff, in other words one thats more of a user experience than one thats good for dev's / tinkerers? Also, in the thread you posted above, it says you cant install OTA updates - not a bad thing but if i update a custom ROM will the phone have to be reset every time?

Ah, I see, although would still recommend LBC rom, it's stable & solid, fast, pretty, bug free and basically just improved stock.
In fact when my wife's contact is up at the end off this month, she's getting a DS and I'll be putting it on that.

I'm not sure if you're root yet? if you're not, then run ginger break v1.2.
I'd ensure that at this point after getting root that you take a full Nadndroid backup of your device using CWM recovery.
Then I'd replace your CWM recovery with the better EXT4 recovery, which is built on the same code base, but easier to use and has many more options. To do this simply download the ZIP file onto your SD card boot into recovery and select flash ZIP from SD.
Now for flashing the ROM.
I'd then look at the LBC ROM thread (although there is a lot of it, I'd suggest reading the entire thing). most of the information is in #1 and detailed guides are on LBC MOD site.
You;ll need to download from LBC MOD website both the ROM Itself v0.5.2 and the pre-WIPE ALL script, putting them both onto your SD card.
Then boot into recovery and first run the WIPE script from LBC which will create all ext4 partitions for you and WIPE ALL OF YOUR DATA in preparation for the clean install.
Lastly run the ROM ZIP which will eventaully boot a clean device.
You shouldn't need to flash a radio just yet (you can see from my signature which one I run)....everything should just work. Although there are RADIO install instructions and the actual downloads available on the LBC website.

Yup - Read that. There is one additional ROM that is not in that list, which i personally prefer.
In the Dev forum, Xboarders has posted a GB OTA ROM that has been rooted - other than that, it is purely stock. If you don't want to run a ROM that has had many changes made (and requires it be updated quite frequently), i would suggest flashing this once you have clockwork mod installed.

Correct. Follow the instructions for the one click nvflash tool to flash clockworkmod recovery and then flash whichever rom you want. If you want the stock GB rom there is a pre rooted version of it in the development section that you can flash once you get recovery flashed to your phone properly.

i try doin the steps and in the 1st step of rooting the phone the superoneclick just froze like it says superoneclick is not workin and i got scare so i x it out... what can i do?

Now I see what the problem is. You're confusing the one click nvflash tool with superoneclick. Superoneclick is used for rooting your stock unrooted rom. Don't worry about superoneclick for now. The one click nvflash tool installs clockworkmod recovery the proper way onto the G2X. It can be found with instructions here:

Just curious what wiping the dalvik cache does in the advanced settings in CWM? I have not seen that on any of the instructions on the developers threads when installing a new rom

ok but before i do anything of this my phone is not rooted doing all of this will root my phone so i can do a battery calibration??

The dalvik cache is basically Androids way of optimizing apps so they load faster and your system runs smoother. If you don't clear it when switching to a different rom it can possibly cause issues like boot loops, etc. Not sure if its cleared by clockwork with a data wipe/factory reset so I always clear it through the advanced menu. It doesn't hurt to clear it more than once so I figure better to be sure its cleared.
After you clear it your first reboot can take several minutes depending on how many apps you have installed as it has to rebuild the dalvik cache for all your apps.

Installing clockworkmod recovery will allow you to flash alternative roms onto your phone. If the rom you flash is rooted then yes you will have root. Most of the custom roms are rooted.
And yes you can do a battery calibration. What problems are you having with your battery?

I bought a phone that has Cyan 7 on it and im messing around with other Roms which ones are compatible where i can just flash from rom manager? I dont want to mess with Odin and other recoveries.
turn off phone hold volume button down and then power button it should boot to the fastboot screen then you can select recovery

Warning - if you're on CyanogenMod-based roms, you need to stay on that family. This means either CM7 or MIUI. If you want to go to a Samsung rom (i897 or i9000), you'll need to use ODIN to properly repartition your internal SD card.

Much as I'd like to be able to point you in the right direction, I don't use MIUI or Rom Manager myself. I only know the issues with partitioning. Perhaps someone who uses one or both of those pieces of software can help.
Don't use ROM manager. Just download the latest update from the op of the MIUI thread. Installation instructions can also be found there.

My reply should have said I don't use ROM manager. I just dl from the ROM thread.
I believe any rom that is listed in rom manager you can use. they are for your phone. I have 2fastroms,MIuI,Oxygen and Cyanogenmod. I tested everyone of them. I normal flash a rom set it up to the way I want it. then when I get sick f it I back it up. Format everything and install a differant rom. when I want to go back to my old rom. I format everything and do a restore

So standard CM7, use the CM7 thread here on XDA as the reference.

I personally don't use ROM Manager but use ClockworkMod alot. There is a thread here on CWM 5.0.2.0 somewhere, if I remember I'll add it.
Kernels need to be Compatible with the ROM. This compatibility requitement is in terms of Kernel revision (i.e. old Kernel might not work with a newer ROM). More importantly though there are two basic typed of ROM on the Sensation, namely Sense and AOSP based ones. These two varieties have completely different Kernels so you will need one from that branch. For example Faux makes two Kernel types AOSP (e.g. for CM7 and MIUI) and all the Sense derivatives.

The Nandroid backup performs a backup of the various phone partitions onto the SD-Card. This allows for a point in time backup and recovery of the phone.
ALWAYS do a Nandroid backup before playing with a new ROM or Kernel, JUST IN CASE **** happens.

Never had this issue with contacts, I keep all mine synced with gmail. New ROM and they automatically update. I don't often use TB, others can probaby advise.

Depends if you want a Sense or ASOP based phone.
Ok ill try to hit all the points for you. First you can use any recovery you like (cwm, twrp, 4ext) but Rom manager will only work with cwm. You can get to your recovery 2 ways, either hold the power button and select reboot then recovery (note some roms don't have this) second power off your phone completely and hold vol down and power until you get to hboot and select recovery (note fastboot must be turned off in settings). Personally I don't recommend using Rom manager to flash your roms go to the recovery itself.
Flashing roms: it is recommended to wipe data wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache (its sometimes found under advanced like in cwm) and when you get that part down it isn't always neccesary but wipe system partition... Never ever wipe anything else... Unless your cleaning your battery stats but let's stick to the basics.
If you are just flashing an update to a Rom sometimes you don't have to wipe anything (i.e. cm7 v9 flashing to cm7 v10) but anytime you change Rom bases always wipe. Especially if you are going from cm7 to a sense 3 Rom and also sense 3.5 and vice versa. Also there are several superwipe files from several devs. I suggest using one of these. All you do is flash it like a Rom in recovery. They automatically wipe for you.
Kernels are labeled with the base you need I.e cm7 or sense review the kernels threads for more info.
Next, if you haven't wiped and tried a couple Roms that explains the contact problems and GPS issues.
A nandroid put simply is just a backup of your current Rom. Go to backup in your recovery and backup your current Rom. Is saves every little bit of your current Rom. You need to do this in case something goes wrong or if you don't like the new one. Then you can simply restore it if you need to.
After you flash a Rom it is in your phones memory. You can delete it off your sdcard no problems, unless you want to flash it again at another time. You can also delete old nandroids if you need to just keep at least the last one you made. They are large sometimes.
I have used about every Rom here I suggest mikes hdrevolution or cdtdroids Roms if you don't want cm7 (which is often referred to as aosp) if you want to try another aosp Rom try hypersensation it works good too.
And you used this forum perfectly asking questions in the q&a good job some people don't get that.

The Nandroid backup performs a backup of the various phone partitions onto the SD-Card. This allows for a point in time backup and recovery of the phone.
ALWAYS do a Nandroid backup before playing with a new ROM or Kernel said:

Ok, this forum is awesome, and I will defintely check out the other forums for kernels and other topics. I am understanding most of your replies, but as you see I get other questions from some answers lol. I did just wipe everything(data factory reset) again, and installed the MIUI and when I signed in my google on setup, all my apps started downloading from market and my contacts were all there in a little bit better fashion than before. Also, when I put CM7 that was my FIRST ROM and immediately after my FIRST time attempting and successfully doing a root s-off. Now MIUI makes my 2nd ROM. I'm sure if I hang around here enough I'll get the hang of it all and start to figure it all out better. I vultured around these forums for 4 months with a stock phone before I did anything, and my phone isn't bricked so I'm happy about that.

Now i have installed a ROM.
I feel awesome.
But then i read this
"With ROM Manager you can back up your existing ROM, flash new ROMs, and install custom themes or kernels. It features a long list of ROMs which is frequently updated and you can install ROMs to the SD card or OTA (over the air). If you want to unlock features like premium ROMs, update notifications, and automatic backups, then you’ll need to spring for the premium version."
So now i am trying to figure out what custome themes are and what custom kernels are compared to the Avatar ROM i installed.

Now let me put this simple. The ROM is the operating system of your device (OS). You know what a theme is. Its just changing the way things look can be your icons, interface shade/colour,etc. Its just visuals. And the next is kernel. Kernels are the thing which links your OS and hardware. Literally they are responsible for the way your phone behaves. Custom kernels has tweaks whicj can improve your device's performance, the battery drain, way your processor's I/O works.. It helps you to do things like over clock and under clock,etc. But it is risky as your manufacturer has made a stable kernel for your device and these custom kernels may be unstable. Sure thing you dont want to mess with em unless you know what you are doing. Now as you have choice to do things like changing ROMs and Kernels using Rom manager, i would recommend you to use CWM and flash zip files which has ROMs and Kernels made specifically for your device as this is more safe. But be sure to have a backup as installing something not meant for your device will brick it. Dont worry. Have a backup and also Odin with stock rom incase its really hard bricked. Since i have already rooted my device. I have installed Avatar ROM and tested some others...
But i never made any backups... Is it to late for that?
Is my best choice to download Titanium Backup and backup everything with that application?
You said something else about Odin, how to backup aswell with that?

CWM is clockword mod recovery. An advanced recovery which has more options than stock recovery. I guess you already has cwm. Probably it must be what you used to flash the Rom and clear cache. Now to Titanium backup, it backs up the whole phone, so do cwm. As we use CWM for our flashing and other things, cwm backups should be enough unless you got space on your sd to have many backup files. And if your phone is working perfectly right now then its never late to take a cwm backup as if you ever encounter a bootloop while tweaking, you can restore your phone. Sometimes even cwm fails to fix your phone. This is where Odin comes in handy. Odin is a pc software which can be used to flash the stock Rom of your device. You can search and find the Stock Rom for your device and region if you google. You can find how to flash using odin guides out there. Flashing stock rom via odin will remove every traces of ever tweaking your phone which includes rooting, flashing of custom roms and kernels,etc. Your device will be just like when you bought it. This is helpful when you want to take your phone to service centres as rooting and doing other stuffs will void your warranty. Hopes this helps...

I can tho not figure out how to know for sure if i have CWM or not. I have no apps called that.
And how do i do a CWM backup if i can start CWM some other way than using an app icon ?

CWM is a shell and not an app and it cannot be installed on android os so you cant access it through your Rom but you can run it whenever you need it but through stock recovery. CWM comes as a .zip file which should be selected from stock recovery or in other words flash it. It will open cwm recovery. And you can access advanced recovery options which stock recovery doesn support. Well search and download cwm for your device, place it sd card root(not inside any folder), run it using install update option on your stock recovery, it will open cwm which will be in yellow colour themed. Select backup and restore opt in it and select backup. That will take care of taking full backup of your device.

Awesome, this thread have cleared many small things that come as so obvious for those that have done this for some time.
Perfect for me to quick understand what I am reading in threads and other sources.
I have now a CWM backup, Titan Backup and installed Odin and found my stock ROM to use if things goes to ****.

Well.. Thats good to hear. And there was none other than me. And anyway a small precaution, never interrupt while you are flashing through Odin coz it will hard brick your device which is literally R.I.P to your device.
