Wrong place to post
:^) I know he posted in the wrong section but I'm gonna be a little scuzzy and jump right in here...I'm having the same trouble and I've looked everywhere to find the solution. I've looked and searched in: Motorola triumph hacks, android forums, xda, google...I only get outdated stuff that talks about tethering with barnacle and modifying something on the PC/device.
If this post continues to get viewed but not replied to I understand
I had the problem and a restart tended to help. It only happens on android devices, my Linux netbook is totally able to connect (and fast! im very impressed, it can even play youtube videos at a decent loading rate).
same thing happened to me...but hotspot wouldn't turn on even when i clicked it even though there was hotspot icon in the notification bar
I installed a different kernal and it worked. don't know why..but it did...

ok this is strange,, so i installed tether 1.70 pre from here
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=HTC+Donut
and it worked the first time i used it, so i turned it off and havnt tried using it till today, well i start my laptop and I see my wifi and android tether (hummm),
so i start the app and it says push to tether as if its off.,, I try it and it doesnt do anything.
So I uninstall, restart my phone.. AND ITS BACK! , i still see android tether in available networks (yes refreshed) but when i try to join it does nothing.
any ideas how I can get rid of this broke down app? or which is the right one to have?
i think maybe i should have got the 1.6,, but i dont remember how i even installed it in the first place, and theres no instructions on the web site..
ok weird so I uninstalled 1.7 again and installed 1.6 for htc from above site, now i show android tether and g1 tether both in available networks, the g1 connects the pc but the android one does not, and both continue to show up even when tehtering is turned off..

Sure. The device you're connecting to it with has the name cached. Oh, no, the sky is falling! How dare some device have a remembered connection!
Why do people always think there has to be a problem with the phone? Delete it if it bothers you.
Err I never said I thought it was the phone, and I don't remember saying that, I was worried because it wouldn't connect or delete.. thanks for the help though, it wasnt much
Ever since going to 3.1, I cannot get internet access outside of my house. Is anyone else having this issue?
For instance, I went to a hotel this weekend. TF sees the wifi, I click to connect and it connects. It even says connected. But I cannot access anything on the net, apps, etc. Nothing works.
I tried disconnecting, reconnecting. Nothing. Then I completely rebooted, nothing. Still see's it, connects but nothing works.
I pretty much think I hit every setting button trying to get something to work but no such luck. Oh it also did it at the Panera bread. So its not just one place, its all over. Any help? Thanks guys,

Maybe the hotel doesn't have free wifi? Can you connect with another device and receive internet?
I doubt the transformer has any issue if it can connect to your house wifi it will connect to any wifi. It doesn't know the difference.

Frequently places like Hotels...coffee shops give you free wireless BUT....you have to accept their terms of service in your browser first....THEN you get to surf...
I was using Panera's wireless this weekend, and didn't realize that I had to close the browser and fire it up a second time to get their "agree to the terms" page so I could surf....before that....my experience was like yours....connection but no surfing.
Hmm, I did try to load firefox and the hotel website never showed up. I will have to give this a shot somewhere else and see what happens. Thanks for the responses, I will need to do some more investigating! If this is only from not signing onto the hotel site first I will feel like an idiot!
helping you
I think you need to open the official browser first and then aprove the therms of use
some hotels require you to give your room number and such before granting access.
was on a road trip 2 weeks ago. hotel wi-fi needed for user agreement to be checked off and a username/pwd was needed before i got on.
when honeycomb shows you connected. open the browser and you should be directed to the hotel's home page.
I know this is a dead thread, but I just got me an Eee Transfprmer and was trying to use it on the train to work, which has WiFi. In order to use it, it requires "to click on your wifi icon and accept the terms of use". I have done this on my laptop without issue, but on the tablet clicking the icon just opens the wifi settings. I tried firing the browser but it would not connect to anything, even when I had good signal and connection. If I cannot connect to the so called free wifi, this tablet is useless to me. Any pointers?
Hi folks, looking for some help.
I am able to connect my tab 2 to my home wifi no problem.
I have also connected it to my Galaxy s2 phone using wifi tethering.
What i have found though is that on several occasions when i am in work and try to tether to my phone, that settings will show that i am connected to my WI FI hotspot but i cannot connect to any internet pages. I recall many moons ago that when i sometimes changed modem connections on my home pc that i had to reboot everything to have the old settings forgotten and the new ones set. Does anyone know if there is something similar when you move from home WIFI as your last connection to WI FI Tethered hotspot as your new one. Is there something i need to do to have the tab or phone release the old settings and take on the new ones. Hope that is a clear enough explanation of my problem. Thanks for any help offered
Is this a one time thing or does it happen often? Are you rooted? rom?
Both phone and tablet are stock, no rooting done to either. It happens regularly, today again in work it happened. Had to forget the connection and reconnect several times until eventually I was able to connect to internet. Really annoying as it shows as wifi connection is strong at all times.
ps some additional info.
I had used the tab tethered to my phone in work to show case how good the tab was. I can get intrrnet connection no problem on my phone, the tablet shows it is tethered to WIFI hotspot, just when i click on an internet link, no page appears. It annoys the bejeezus out of me cos i know it should be simple. I even tried bluetooth tethering and it wouldnt work either, when it did previously. What i am thinking is that i had juice defender on both my phone and tab and recently uninstalled it as i had read there was no real benefit in using this with ICS. I am wondering if it has possibly screwed up some setting or other in the phone or the tab, i.e. maybe set something and then when i have removed the program, it has not reset something, yes that sounds pretty vague i know. Anyway, thanks again and thanks for any further suggestions. p.s. i may try reinstalling juice defender on both devices to see if it makes a difference.

I don't know if his will work, but, instead of tapping on the connection and hitting connect button, try pressing and holding down on the connection until a menu shows up. Try connecting from that screen.

You said both are stock and unrooted?
I would try rooting your phone and freezing tethering manager. If i recall right if tethering is not allocated on account, i beleive that the carrier can disable tethering through that app,i could be wrong but it may be worth a shot.
Or your could try a tethering app from the market, like PDA net or the tethering app from CWM also there is a tethering app on google code website.
let me know if that helps
Try Bluetooth tethering instead.
Edit: re read your post.
Try forgetting, the re-pairing the devices. It took several tries for me, or try fox-fi for your phone, and PDAnet for the tablet.

I had also removed avast virus protection as well as Juice defender from the tab. It seemed to be shortly after this that the problem arose, it may be a coincidence but i thought it may be some setting or other that had been changed. I hard reset both my phone and the tab but the problem continued.
In the house i could connect to my home WIFI everytime without issue, then if i tried to tether to my phone it would not connect. I would jump between one connection then the other and eventually it would connect to the phone.
Anyway, thats the history, now to what is happening now. The other day i read somewhere about putting tab in flight mode before tethering, so i tried this and it has worked first time every time since, so i am hopeful this is a permanent solution. What does surprise me is that the tab is not a 3g tab so i would not have thought putting it in airplane mode would make any difference but, hey it has so if anyone has similar issues it may be worth giving it a try. Good luck.
I have seen numerous posts on this accross the net, but have found no definative fix.
I upgraded from GB (21G) to ICS 30A) and although it connects to the router it doesn't send or recieve data (the wee icon shows the arrows, but the router doesn't register anything) also it keeps searching continually for better access points which eats up the battery and slows down the phone massively.
Factory reset does nothing, the app WiFix does nothing. However using the phone as a WiFi hotspot seems to work fine.
If there is no fix, what later ROMs don't have this problem but at the same time retain the functionality of the phone (i.e. 3D Camera & Appz) - it's a UK bought handset.
Sorry if this for the n00b question, but I have been off the scene for a while.
/edit: Managed to fix it... it would appear that something went wrong when rooting it and it affected WiFi for some reason. (I don't know enough to know why! )
After completely unrooting and then rooting again, all is perfect.
Hi, whenever I turn on my wifi hotspot on my Pantech Crossover (p999, rooted) within a certain area around my school, it shows an error, sometimes showing that the hotspot is active at the same time. When I go into settings, the hotspot button says that the hotspot is not turned on despite the hotspot persistent notification. After clicking the button to turn it on again, my phone freezes, then restarts. This weird behavior ONLY happens near my school, as if it was a certain tower that caused it. My wifi and data works fine, and hotspot works great when I move about a half mile away.
I can't find anything like this on the internet at all, so I'm posting it in the best android forum out there.
Sorry if this thread is in the wrong location, is not formatted correctly, etc. It's my first post.
Thanks guys!
P.S. I have a pretty good understanding of android, rooting, custom roms, hardware, PC software, and the like, so feel free to explain things technically and stuff. Just don't ask me to pull out a linux distro and start sudo-ing things . I don't do linux very well.
Hi,
I can't find a helpful thread on that, but you could try asking here,
