Can't log onto Wifi outside of home? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since going to 3.1, I cannot get internet access outside of my house. Is anyone else having this issue?
For instance, I went to a hotel this weekend. TF sees the wifi, I click to connect and it connects. It even says connected. But I cannot access anything on the net, apps, etc. Nothing works.
I tried disconnecting, reconnecting. Nothing. Then I completely rebooted, nothing. Still see's it, connects but nothing works.
I pretty much think I hit every setting button trying to get something to work but no such luck. Oh it also did it at the Panera bread. So its not just one place, its all over. Any help? Thanks guys,

Maybe the hotel doesn't have free wifi? Can you connect with another device and receive internet?
I doubt the transformer has any issue if it can connect to your house wifi it will connect to any wifi. It doesn't know the difference.

Frequently places like Hotels...coffee shops give you free wireless BUT....you have to accept their terms of service in your browser first....THEN you get to surf...
I was using Panera's wireless this weekend, and didn't realize that I had to close the browser and fire it up a second time to get their "agree to the terms" page so I could surf....before that....my experience was like yours....connection but no surfing.

Hmm, I did try to load firefox and the hotel website never showed up. I will have to give this a shot somewhere else and see what happens. Thanks for the responses, I will need to do some more investigating! If this is only from not signing onto the hotel site first I will feel like an idiot!

helping you
I think you need to open the official browser first and then aprove the therms of use

some hotels require you to give your room number and such before granting access.

was on a road trip 2 weeks ago. hotel wi-fi needed for user agreement to be checked off and a username/pwd was needed before i got on.
when honeycomb shows you connected. open the browser and you should be directed to the hotel's home page.

I know this is a dead thread, but I just got me an Eee Transfprmer and was trying to use it on the train to work, which has WiFi. In order to use it, it requires "to click on your wifi icon and accept the terms of use". I have done this on my laptop without issue, but on the tablet clicking the icon just opens the wifi settings. I tried firing the browser but it would not connect to anything, even when I had good signal and connection. If I cannot connect to the so called free wifi, this tablet is useless to me. Any pointers?

Very strange on and off WMWifi Router problem

I've just recently bought an HTC Touch Pro on Verizon plan. I read about WMWifi Router so I decided to try it to be able to share my phone's internet connection to other devices. I also realized that Verizon had removed the Internet Sharing app, so I knew I had to get that also. I got it all to work, but it doesn't work after I shut it down and restart it. These are the details, and I apologize but it's rather long and confusing...
I got WMWifi Router first and installed it not realizing I needed Internet Sharing first. After it didn't work, I downloaded Internet Sharing, installed it, and it still didn't work with WMWifi Router. I could connect to the phone via Wifi, but I couldn't browse the net on the laptop I tried to use (Windows XP). I uninstalled both Internet Sharing and WMWifi, and then reinstalled Internet Sharing first, then WMWifi. It worked this time, and I noticed the little icon next to the "Cellular Connection" on the WMWifi screen was green this time instead of yellow or red as it had been before.
Everything worked great with good speeds. I then shut the program down. Next time I tried to use it, I had the same initial problem, wifi connection but no internet on the computer. The icon at Cellular Connection on WMWifi was also yellow again. I uninstalled WMWifi, and then tried to uninstall Internet Sharing. It told me it couldn't remove it all. I then reinstalled Internet Sharing, and I had to restart the phone. Upon restart I installed WMWifi. Everything worked this time, green icon at the cellular connection, great speeds. To test it, I shut down WMWifi and restarted it, and no internet, yellow icon at cellular connection.
During this whole process I could always get to the internet on my browser, so I always had signal, and data was turned on.
I did the whole uninstall reinstall process and it worked, with a green cellular icon on WMWifi. I turned it off again to test, again it didn't work, only this time when I tried to uninstall Internet Sharing, it didn't tell me it couldn't remove it. Then when I installed it, it didn't make me restart. Now no matter what I do, I can't seem to get it to give me a green connection on Cellular, and I get no connection to the internet.
I know it's not a problem with the computers I'm using as I've tried a couple, and I can verify it's not. It's a problem somehow with WMWifi binding to Internet sharing or something similar. Maybe I have a faulty copy of Internet Sharing? Anyone have any ideas?
to be honest, if it was me, i'd try one of 2 things.. or maybe both.
1. backup my data (you can do that using PIMBackup2.8) and hard reset since something might've screwed up the whole thing
2. pm Chainfire (the creator of WMWifiRouter) and ask him if he has any experience with this issue.
It may be related to a bug that is fixed in the upcoming 1.30 - or it might not. I'm afraid I can't really tell from here right now (I'm in Barcelona).
As your experience seems to vary a lot and you have done a bunch of things, you may need to hard-reset as well (not sure - yet - though).
You should write support @ wmwifirouter . com about this issue, so it can be handled.

[Q] (Solved) Tethering issue

Hi folks, looking for some help.
I am able to connect my tab 2 to my home wifi no problem.
I have also connected it to my Galaxy s2 phone using wifi tethering.
What i have found though is that on several occasions when i am in work and try to tether to my phone, that settings will show that i am connected to my WI FI hotspot but i cannot connect to any internet pages. I recall many moons ago that when i sometimes changed modem connections on my home pc that i had to reboot everything to have the old settings forgotten and the new ones set. Does anyone know if there is something similar when you move from home WIFI as your last connection to WI FI Tethered hotspot as your new one. Is there something i need to do to have the tab or phone release the old settings and take on the new ones. Hope that is a clear enough explanation of my problem. Thanks for any help offered
Is this a one time thing or does it happen often? Are you rooted? rom?
Both phone and tablet are stock, no rooting done to either. It happens regularly, today again in work it happened. Had to forget the connection and reconnect several times until eventually I was able to connect to internet. Really annoying as it shows as wifi connection is strong at all times.
ps some additional info.
I had used the tab tethered to my phone in work to show case how good the tab was. I can get intrrnet connection no problem on my phone, the tablet shows it is tethered to WIFI hotspot, just when i click on an internet link, no page appears. It annoys the bejeezus out of me cos i know it should be simple. I even tried bluetooth tethering and it wouldnt work either, when it did previously. What i am thinking is that i had juice defender on both my phone and tab and recently uninstalled it as i had read there was no real benefit in using this with ICS. I am wondering if it has possibly screwed up some setting or other in the phone or the tab, i.e. maybe set something and then when i have removed the program, it has not reset something, yes that sounds pretty vague i know. Anyway, thanks again and thanks for any further suggestions. p.s. i may try reinstalling juice defender on both devices to see if it makes a difference.

I don't know if his will work, but, instead of tapping on the connection and hitting connect button, try pressing and holding down on the connection until a menu shows up. Try connecting from that screen.

You said both are stock and unrooted?
I would try rooting your phone and freezing tethering manager. If i recall right if tethering is not allocated on account, i beleive that the carrier can disable tethering through that app,i could be wrong but it may be worth a shot.
Or your could try a tethering app from the market, like PDA net or the tethering app from CWM also there is a tethering app on google code website.
let me know if that helps
Try Bluetooth tethering instead.
Edit: re read your post.
Try forgetting, the re-pairing the devices. It took several tries for me, or try fox-fi for your phone, and PDAnet for the tablet.

I had also removed avast virus protection as well as Juice defender from the tab. It seemed to be shortly after this that the problem arose, it may be a coincidence but i thought it may be some setting or other that had been changed. I hard reset both my phone and the tab but the problem continued.
In the house i could connect to my home WIFI everytime without issue, then if i tried to tether to my phone it would not connect. I would jump between one connection then the other and eventually it would connect to the phone.
Anyway, thats the history, now to what is happening now. The other day i read somewhere about putting tab in flight mode before tethering, so i tried this and it has worked first time every time since, so i am hopeful this is a permanent solution. What does surprise me is that the tab is not a 3g tab so i would not have thought putting it in airplane mode would make any difference but, hey it has so if anyone has similar issues it may be worth giving it a try. Good luck.

wifi connects but doesn't work

I have a stock Skyrocket (4.0.3-IML74K.CLE5) I am using as a media player. I keep it in airplane mode all the time with the Wifi on connected to my router. Yesterday the Play store started telling me there was no connection even though I was connected to my router. I went to the web and found I could connect to pages, but constantly get security warnings. If I click continue I can go on to see the page. Netflix tells me there is a problem connecting to Netflix. Voice search works fine. Google Voice tells me there was a network error. Facebook says it can't find a secure connection. Gmail says no connection. Zedge works fine.
I have tried four different wifi Hotspots both secured and insecure. I have tried telling it to forget the connections and reconnecting. I have restarted many times, removed the battery, and tried all the frequency bands.
The wifi icon in the notification bar shows a strong connection. And the little arrows light up orange and green to show activity.
I am guessing there is something wonky going on with establishing a secure internet connection, bit I have no idea how to fix it. Any advice is appreciated.

Sorry about posting in the wrong spot.
I have been using it like this for three weeks. The problem started two days ago.
Update: it works again. I don't know what I did to fix it, though. I went through every setting, and did turn off screen lock and unknown sources, bit I doubt that did it.
i figured it out, i had the same problem, the date and time were askew. updated them and it worked just fine ^__^

Odd WIFI issue

Today my Moto G has decided to be painful, I am connected to the WIFI in my home, but I can't access anything outside, any app that needs to use the the net does not work. FB chrome, newspapers etc.
When I switch off the WIFI and go to 3g all works as it should.
Turn on the WIFI and it all stops again.
The odd thing is everything else computers tablets all connect fine on my WIFI?????
Just to top this off it is stock and has been working fine since I have owned it.
But it will connect to mobileedit and transfer data via WIFI????
Am I loosing the plot and going to go down the factory reset or is it going back to the shop?
Any ideas anyone?

having now looked at the Motorola website and their troubleshooting page.
It seems it was as simple as telling my phone to forget my home connection then reconnecting!
Simple really but not my first action!
Hope this helps someone.

[Q] WiFi Issue

Background:
A week ago, I flashed the Lollipop Developer Preview onto my Nexus 5. I am also in High School, and my school offers WiFi. When I went to school the morning after I flashed it, I was having some trouble with the WiFi. I usually open up Chrome and go somewhere basic (google.com) because the school WiFi will block everything and automatically redirect you to an authentication page, where you would sign in with your student ID and password. What would happen was I would try to connect to the open, unsecured SSID, my phone would connect to it, but would leave a little exclamation mark next to my WiFi indicator. I did some research on that and found that it was because my phone wasn't detecting an active connection, and was switching me back to Mobile Network thanks to the new Lollipop feature. Which means that when I would try to get redirected to the Authentication Page, it would use Mobile Network and successfully bring up whatever URL I threw in there. I searched some more on Google, XDA, and various other Android forums, to no avail.
So, I figured it wasn't the worst thing in the world, and decided to go some time without WiFi while sticking to my Mobile Network. After a couple of days, the WiFi issue seemingly resolved itself. I'm not sure if it was because of something I did, or whatever else. I used the same SSID, same URL for redirection, same browser, same everything. I didn't care, it was fixed. And I thought that was the end of it.
Fast forward to now:
Last night, I flashed the official stock image, straight from Google. I thought the issue I had the week prior was a bug that would've been fixed. To my surprise, I get to school, and sure enough, the same issue as a week before. I am, obviously, going to wait and see if it fixes itself again, but the issue sparked curiosity, and now I have to ask...
What would cause this?
What are some possible resolutions to this?
Is this something Google didn't think of when designing 5.0?
If anybody has/had the same issue, I would love to hear about it. Any help or tips/resolutions are appreciated.
Thanks,
206003
Update:
I'm not sure what happened, exactly, but upon coming to school this morning, I noticed that my WiFi works and the issue is gone. Though I'm glad, I'm still not sure why this happened. Any answers?

I read here on the Nexus 5 site) that Lollypop has a problem when on channel 12 and higher on wifi. Might be your problem.
That's what I thought too. So I downloaded a WiFi analyzer and tried to connect directly to a channel 1 connection. It didn't work. I tried a channel 6 connection, which still didn't work. Any other ideas?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA mobile app
I don't think you can do it that way. I think you will have to actually go into the school router and make the changes on the router. You will need password and permissions and I doubt that school will give it to you.
The WiFi analyzer I used showed me the available channels for the SSID, along with the channel number I was connected to. None of the channels worked.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA mobile app
Same problem. Whenever I try to reconnect to any WiFi, it shows an exclamation mark. To make it work, I have to either switch airplane mode on then off, or forget network and setup again.
This happened ever since upgrading to Android Lollipop without wiping data. I am rooted if that matters.
Any updates? Changing channels is far from a feasible solution.
I found a better temporary fix. Once connected to WiFi, you disable data until the exclamation mark is gone, and then re-enable it.
I'm still not too sure what the fix is. Like I said, time solved my issue. I am still curious as to what it is though, so any input is appreciated.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA mobile app
After a while, the problem reappears so I keep mobile data disabled while on WiFi. You can automate that with Smart WiFi Toggler. Problem pretty much solved.
Yup. Problem reappeared. When I try to disable mobile data and connect again, nothing happens. I still have the exclamation mark.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA mobile app
Here's how I do it:
Connect to WiFi > Disable Mobile Data > Surf the Internet > Exclamation mark disappears.
Android 5.0.1 seems to have fixed the issue for me.
Greetings.
I had the same wifi! problem with everyone and when i looked at my router's settings i noticed that there was no dns selected in the router. not from isp, not manually, nothing. So i just checked dns from isp and voila.
hope that helps someone.
