Hello!
I have been looking all over the forums on ways to use my internal SD as my external, and my external as my internal.
I found a ZIP file somewhere around the forums that made the switch for me, but it won't let me mount it on the computer.
Is there any simple way like Cyanogen Mod 7 that I could use with my Weapon ROM?
You guys already rock a lot, I thought I would ask a question now
O.T.
I would have posted on the development page - but apparently I don't have 10 posts... I have been reading around a lot for the past few months, but I haven't commented, I guess it's a good way to introduce myself!
Right now is no way you can do that i try change the build.pro and actually i did and everything was working good the only problem was that it doesnt shows my internal memory
Oops my bad is not the build.pro is tha vold.fstab on system/etc
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
It is possible, but you'll be unable to mount to PC. Its very tricky to get it working on OTA ROMs like Weapon
Like Mr.apoc said its possible but you won't be able to access from your PC. Its best to just leave it as is.

I have been working out the kinks on it, just editting the files I will edit this post as soon as I find out whether or not it's working for me.
UPDATE
I finished editting my void.fstab - changed around the sdcard mount location, and made it point to my internal, still no luck. I tried changing around some files and throwing in some of the cyanogen files, and moved my mount locations (that's what she said), still no going. I guess I am going to have to give into the Cyanogen world. I would like to be on cyanogen, but it breaks my countries APN options. Oh well. Things I do for my phone.

Hey everyone,
Found this mod for the Galaxy S (Or SGSII, not sure what the i9003 is), which switches the Internal and External SD cards, according to the Android OS. Personally, I have a lot more space of my external SD and would like games and such to store their data there, instead of on my smaller internal SD. Some apps like Titanium backup can change their data locations, but Games such as Gameloft games and the like cant have their game data moved to the External SD card atm.
This looks like a great alternative to this issue, could this hack be adapted to the G2x?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088474
Although I could see how you would think this would be in development, this post should actually go in Q&A.
That being said, this would be a very useful modification.
Edit: My apologies. Apparently you posted in precisely the right forum. My apprehension arose from the fact that so many people say 'BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS MODDD??!?!' and it just clutters things up so my immediate reaction was to motion to have it moved. Good deal bringing it to Krylon and Tweezit's attention
I couldnt decide between Q&A and Development for this topic, as it involves porting or adapting a hack for another phone to the G2x.
MODS: Please move this to Q&A, if necessary.
EDIT: Apparently not, this seems to be a development topic now
Here is a file Be warned I have not tested this. If it messes your phone up I am not held responsible. **Personally I would let another dev look at this to be on the safe side as I am not 100% sure on this.**
You will have to extract it and use root explorer to push to /system/etc/
Oh I needed to clarify this was on 2.2.2 so it may differ on 2.3.
Since we have a little interest, we'll leave it for a day or so and see if anything comes of it.
I've PM'd krylon to take a look at Tweezit's vold. (sounds like a nasty STD).

Smart move as I spent all of 2 minutes looking through the file as I am in a rush to leave
Later guys ^^
I'm looking at this now. Your biggest issue is you are going to have to have 3 different versions... well... in reality 2 different versions. CM based and Non-CM Based.
And if someone flashes the wrong one...they are hosed and will have to restore from a backup
ok, after reviewing Tweezits vold, Bionix vold, and CM7 vold, tweezit's would break mounting.
The reason being, with the introduction of Tegra, the vold changed for it.
I'll have to do some testing, but making the internal to external switch should be fairly easy.

We need to decide on a standard. Unfortunately some people don't have SD cards but I'm sure most people would that visit here.
I'm for the switch cause i hate crap installing to my internal drive. Cm already made the switch.

I'm with you. Maybe we should put together a poll or something...
Multiple versions just confuse the new guys. Would be nice if there was some priority... Like use SD as first choice then fall back on internal if SD is not present.
That still complicates things as people wont know what's going on.
****best idea****
If CWM flips it by default then you can just streamline everything and make a public service announcement on the CWM download page that they will be flipped and an SD is required for flashing. Makes sense to use a SD for flashing anyway.
Even a 2gb is plenty for some Roms and app storage. Save the internal for personal music and other media. I hope no one rocks less then that these days.
Plus if you use internal storage I can see certain scenarios popping up where they are boot looping and lost their access into the internal files. I can't mount using 3.1.0.1 external. If it werent for my SD I'd be stuck hardcore.

I'm kind of with you on this one. I use all of my roms and such for the external SD card and everything else for internal.

Good point however 5gb of internal space is not enough for me since I have 10gbs of music onmy sd card. I wish there was a way to have a switch function that will enable you to choose which sd crd to download to

I've attached the CWM flashable .zip of the mod I've been running for awhile that will swap your SDcards. Never been able to get it to mount the external card as a folder inside /sdcard/. Didn't really want to release it until I did, but here ya go anyway
BTW, is it just me, or do init.d scripts not work in CM7?
This is for CyanogenMod only!
I don't have the volds from other builds on hand to mod them....
WOW! I come back from long day of work and find all this discussion.....awesome!! Thanks for chiming in guys. I def understand there will have to be at least 2 versions cause of CM, but as its a file, couldnt a simple app\script be created to swap it back and forth, after detecting CM or not? It may be a lil beyond my scripting knowledge, for the detection portion at least.
I see a ton of useful reasons for this switch, as the 5GB isnt the 13ishGB that the Galaxy S has and doesn't quite satisfy the requirements of a "primary" sdcard IMO. The 5GB would be useful as an "_InternalSD" folder bind\mount (whatever is being used), with the External SD as the main SD card. I'll list a few useful reasons why.....
Off the top of my head......
If your a serious gamer and you have a TON of games that have downloadable files put to the SD card, that 5GB will go quick (Gameloft I'm looking at you)
External SD can hold WAY more nandroid backups than Internal SD, and ROM Manager would recognize them (I acknowledge the external sd issue is not really an issue w/ the two ext4 recoveries)

I humbly disagree.... If anything it would belong in the General or Development. It is a work towards development and there is no "question" being asked. Just because it isn't a ROM, doesn't make it any less important to work on the phone.
Just my .02
Got the Photon Q earlier today finally. Not going to unlock/root until I'm back at my home office next week and see how it works in my building with the spotty Sprint signal issues there first.
Anyway, just in case anyone else runs into the situation where they're trying to fing/figure out the correct path name to point to the sd card (Mybackup Pro comes to mind) rather than the internal storage which, confusingly, is set to /mnt/sdcard....the path to the actual sdcard you plug in for the P-Q is /mnt/external1.
I'm sure for many who've been on several Android phones now that may well have been known by default, but my only previous Android phone was the Epic and didn't have this issue there. Googling myself was giving me several different options. Finally manually re-downloaded Astro on the Q and was able to find the right path name.

Yea, there's "two" SD cards on this device - internal and external. Kinda odd for sure... I ran into this crap when porting TWRP to it .

Hehe, could have just asked. I've referred to it a few times . I kid, glad to see you took to the device, let me know how the office signal works, get it from the Sam's club? Was the info I provided correct according to the employees?
For the most part....technically with in-store vs. the through the Sams Club website (which is what you pulled from) I have 30 days in terms of the hardware....but in terms of being able to revert back to my previous contract apparently its still 14 days there, so in the end its all the same.
One thing I can see that, if I do keep the Q, I'm really going to have a hard time adjusting to is the keyboard. While in and of itself its a very good one physically, the positioning of the bottom row of letters and symbols in particular is very different from what I'm subconsciously used to on the Epic lol.
Yea ordered the q thru my employee discount! So can't wait to actually get one instead of playing with our store demo! But overall 3g speeds are nice and fast on the q. Better than the gs3 and evo lte! Maybe due to motorola radios but it loaded car forums pics i go on using stock browser with ease!

i would do that but i am going with the slimbean 3.1.o rom once i figure out how to swap mounts due to erikmm putting the INT as EMMC and not sdcard 0 in the vold.fstab unless i can take another 4.1.2 vold and swap the files around but i will try that once the swap can be confirmed between the 2 vold files

Is it shabby penguin's 5.5.0.4? I think that's the one I use...
I remember awhile back that one of the CWM 5 versions didn't work properly and I don't remember which one exactly it was nor do I remember what exactly was wrong with it- and I don't know if it was pulled.
Have you tried updating recovery to CWM 6 and reflash the rom? I know if there's an issue with your recovery you will have various issues with the rom that you flash. Hey, it's worth a shot right? I have never had any issue with music detection with apollo with any rom that I've run, but I also haven't done the storage switch thingy (that's technical terms for me at this hour ) If you have issues with music detection without that mod then I would think there's something not right when you flash the rom (which is why I suggest changing recovery). If that mod is causing it and you can't live without it I'm not sure what to suggest

im not honestly to sure what's wrong with the music detection with the 4.1.2 roms lately there was the .nomedia files etc from the ROM Manager from the play store but i had it working awhile back the first time i flashed the 4.1.2 roms ( can't remember which it was ) but the sd card is good im running the CWM 6.0.9 or some $h!t but maybe it could be that im not to sure i can check it out and give it a try see if that helps and as far as the 4.1.2 roms im good without em frankly id rather combine the Paranoid Android 4.1.2 settings ( the split screen is pretty bomb ) then the Blazer 4 Force performance part of that rom ) and the Slimbean Rom but i dont have an up 2 date strong nor big enough PC due to im using a family member's laptop ( in which he might want back and or forgot completely lol ) ( he's my uncle and like 60 something lol ) but in any case don't have a good copy of an up 2 date Linux not really familiar with it i mess with it on an off but don't actually have it as my OS right now due to previous mention but ill give it a shot and c if the change of recovery works and the ringtone and notification thingy work

I would just return your blaze if you can or sell it for another. It is strange only you have this problem and it might be your phone is messed up, although I still think it is the sdcard. Did you ever get another card and try it that way? My sdcard did the same thing yours is now before it died and it was only 2 months old and an official samsung card. I have tried almost every ROM we have here and none give me any media issues. Hell, ever since the SOD got fixed I have been looking for bugs and havent found any serious one. As it stands now CM9 and 10 are pretty stable (most roms are based off CM except ASOP). Could you possibly give us a logcat when you first boot? I'm sorry, but it probably wont get fixed without one.

i dont understand like i stated previously when i FIRST flashed a 4.1.2 rom my music detection was instant even after i swapped mounts but now the slimbean will detect music but when i switch ( re flashed to PA trying to c if i can pull a log from a swappable 4.1.2 rom ) and it detects on slimbean but on PA using apollo or any other app it either doesn't detect or it takes awhile to detect the music like after a few reboots i don't understand it though but now in slim bean it detects when the mounts are default ( internal emmc and ext 32 sdcard being external ) but when i flashed pa and swapped points nothing is shown at least right now as i am typing this post so im gonna give it a try and reflash a clockwork recovery then reflash PA c if that helps so thanks guys for the input i sincerely appreciate it and ive hit thanks on almost all that had input now if someone can point in the direction of solving my problem ( i wish well i don't wish nor want anyone to have this problem ) but i don't get why it's only my phone it does it to i guess like i said it's worth a shot in re doing everything and starting from scratch again so who knows ill start with the recovery first then take baby steps and give input and my findings here in a bit thanks once again guys/girls
Wait, your music works before you do the swap? I loaded up slim bean and it reads my music just fine in crappy apollo. I didn't do the swap as I don't really need the space. Have you tried using link2SD instead of mount swapping? What you can do is dedicate another partition on your sdcard to apps and such instead of moving all your apps. You never really answered why you need to swap mounts, is it cause of a game or do you take booty loads of pictures?

Hi basic question regarding my internal sdcard.
Im having an issue and was told I should format my sdcard (I dont have an external sd).
I hooked my phone up via USB and opened it with windows explorer. I see my device and see "Internal Storage", which contains every folder within it. I dont see something specific for "sdcard" and Im unsure how to find it. Is the entire "Internal Storage" folder what Im looking for? Is that what I should completely back up on pc, format and then repopulate? Im nervous about bricking the phone so want to confirm this...
Thanks.
The internal memory is the sd card referred to. You will lose all of your data.

Thanks for the reply. So if I first copy every folder here onto my PC, format it and then put all those folders back, should I expect the phone to restart without any problem and everything fully intact?

i know it seems obvious, but doing it your first time is scary so its really helpful to get affirmation that my understanding of what may seem basic and obvious is correct
Haha I know that feeling, first time I tried to root a phone I almost bricked it probably one of my scariest moments. YouTube helps a lot, there's plenty of step by step guides on how to do pretty much everything to your phone.

I have an issue with my internal storage mount.... Not the ones with my system files but the one were all my program/game files go. I have orthus 8 now and ever sense I don't have it anymore showing up. Can someone help my fix it?

Hello people,
I got my Xperia L a couple of days ago and I have it running successfully with Vengeance + Clean n Tweaked after a loooot of tries.
This is my first Android phone after HTC Wildfire! Loving it so far [Was uber slow out-of-the-box though]
Anyway I want to know how beneficial it is to create a swap file on the External SD card and use it. Does it make a big difference in performance? If yes how do I achieve this?
Secondly I really want to be able to move user apps to External Storage. I tried moving them from within the Clean Master app and it did work BUT when I restart my phone the Xperia Home(launcher) app keeps crashing(until the SD card is initialized I guess). The easy fix is to open the notification bar or something for a minute before going back into to the Home Screen. So yes this kinda works. Just want to know if there's a better way.
One idea comes to mind is making a separate ext2/3/4 partition on the External SD Card and using that for user apps. Will the home launcher still crash? I really don't want to use a custom launcher. If this is possible how do I do it?
I read about the mod to make External memory as Internal. Does everything work correctly with that? However if partitioning is possible I would prefer that as opposed to using the whole External SD Card as internal memory.
Lastly, since I don't have 10 posts yet I can't post to DEV threads yet so I want to thank people from about 10 to 15 different threads which I referred to in the last 24 hours. lol!
p.s. I have a SanDisk 32GB Class 10 Micro SD Card

Thanks for the reply. I read all about the app and I think It MIGHT cause trouble at some point so I'm gonna stay away from it for now. Maybe when I want to play a HUGE game I'll use it. Good to know how to!
Anyone wants to shed some light regarding the swap file question?
