After flashing basebands (I think is what messed it up) my crespo thinks it's a crespo-4g. Anything downloaded from rom manager is for 4g which means the recoveries aren't bootable and roms fail to install when checking asserts. Everything works fine if I manually download the correct version.
I assume this is a problem with the device id or efs folder? What do I need to change to fix it?
What baseband and does your phone currently have.

Just reflash ROM manager and select Nexus S, it will ask you either that or for the NS4G. Then you should have access to nothing but the NS ROMS

This issue appears universally even on new rom installs. The popup appears and I select NS but it only lists NS4G items

If you don't understand what I mean when I say flash the stock rooted version of the ota then you need to stop and learn alot about your phone before you mess something up.

There is no need to tell me what i need or don't need to do with my phone.
There is no point in useless advices.
Let me be clear:
I want a stock 2.3.6 rooted phone, I am very capable of rooting it myself but because of a weird bug i am incapable of doing that.
what i tried to do is to install a 2.3.6 OTA and re-root, that failed.
so if you are able to provide me with a fix it would be appreciated, if not please provide a rooted version of a STOCK 2.3.6, and not a ROM with million unneeded extra stuff.
if you are unable to help that is ok, but do not presume that because i am newly registered i have no idea of what i am doing.
I still need help ...
Why did it fail?

I was trying to make a backup of my current ROM/info before I installed a new kernel, but when I click "Backup current ROM", I get a pop up that says
Flash Clockworkmod Recovery
You must have CLockworkMOD Recovery Installed before continuing! Install the recovery through ROM Manager first.
I click Install and it asks me to confirm my phone model, but the closes thing that it offers to my phone model is the Samsung t-Mobil Galaxy S2. Is this the one I should use? Or is there another way I should be going about this?
Sorry for all the n00b questions, just want to make sure I do everything right incase I have to fix my phone. haha
Select t-mobile.
Sent from my SGH-I727R using xda premium
Yes you must choose tmobile galaxy s2. Its the same as our phone, ours is not listed. But that is what everyone who uses rom manager does
Don't choose Motorola Startac, you're phone will explode....
As mentioned, the T-Mo Clockwork mod option is the one you want. That is, unless they have added proper Skyrocket option since the last time I flash in CWM.

I just installed the Touch Recovery from Rom Manager using the Android Market in-app purchase. Updated my CWM to 5.8.1.3, from what I gather on the website, this is the T-Mobile SGS 2 version. Works fine from what I can tell/tested.
Hello I have gingerbread, but I bought it used and the guy had it rooted. So now the phone is always trying to update to ics but it can't because its rooted. All these popup messages are getting really annoying. So I just want to either update to ics or get a custom rom. Idk which one is better and I have no idea how to do either. Please help, thanks.
You should get rommanager and flash cwm recovery. Then donwload a ota that can be flashed with cwm and flash it. After that download the superuser zip to gain root again, flash it and you are set.
Good luck.

If you're happy with stock and dont need root, why not try to flash the stock JellyBean ROM?
if i do this, will it wipe everything off of my phone?

Yes it will wipe everything (apps, data) but NOT your sd card. If you have titanium Backup use that, I but I'm guessing you don't. The OP does say that it will wipe your phone also.

Hello there,
Just got a used samsung skyrocket with At&t and upgraded to the 4.0.4 android version.
My problem is that I have no data and wifi will not work. I tried changing the APN settings which would get my data to work but still no Wifi or mms. Any suggestions of how I can fix this? Thank you.
Need more info:
1. Are you on stock or rooted?
A. If rooted, what rom?
2. What radio do you have installed?
It sounds like your radio didn't flash correctly. You can either ODIN to a stock 4.0.4 or just flash a ROM thru CWM Touch.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Try going to the Sky ICS thread in the development forum, grab one of the radios from there, and flash through CWM or TWRP. If it's a bad radio flash, that will fix it.

Well if you want to troubleshoot it I would start by flashing my ruu that's posted. See if you get 4g on your phone with that.

I just now am getting familiar with what an RUU is and from my understanding so far there's 2 types? 1. radio upgrade unit & 2. rom upgrade utility. Which is yours? I'm not really looking forward to flashing roms atm, just looking for something quick like flashing some firmware that doesn't overwrite my entire system partition 'IF' possible. If not then am I stuck with flashing what appears to be a new rom? Or do I have another option? Thanks for reply!
Edit: Also I forgot to include that I'm S-OFF with bootloader unlocked & permanent root w TWRP recovery, would this act like one of Samsungs crappy OTA's and re-lock my phone IF it was the ROM thing I mentioned above rather than just Radio Firmware?

And ruu is an ruu. It is both the stock rom and firmware included. There are reset parameters that a factory reset on stock recovery can do that twrp etc are not.
This will not affect your lock or s off status and it's pre rooted. Also, there's not really "permanent root" on any phone. More so with s off you have the ability to flash su and root.
