AT&T is a bunch of asshats and won't give us the unlock code.... haha.
I'm going to try calling Samsung tomorrow, and see if they'll do it.
I believe it's federal law now, they have to give you the unlock code. Assuming the purchase was legit.

Cellunlock.net can unlock it. They unlocked mine. You might be better off selling your skyrocket and getting the T mobile SGS II. I used a T mobile SIM to unlock my skyrocket after getting the code and I do not think you get hspa speeds for data, I think it was EDGE if I remember. The voice worked fine.
Hey guys
Isnt there a manual DIY way to unlock the Skyrocket? I have searched and searched and searched and only thing i turn up is...'goto cellunlocker.com'. Those guys charge a whopping 30 dollars for this.
There are numerous methods and tools for other S2 variants...but nothing for this one?
Hasnt anyone found it yet? Surely it cant be that difficult.
You do know they will give you the code as long as your account is in good standing and it also depends on the age of your account. I've been with this **** company for 5 yrs now. Anytime I've asked I've never been denied.
Take it they didn't make the mistake of having the unlock code on the phone this time like they did for the Captivate...?

I have been with AT&T for 5 years now. They say this device has exclusive contract with AT&T and cannot be unlocked, period. They forwarded my application to the device unlock team with no results whatsoever. They just denied me the code.
I tried various unlocking sites (cellunlocker, cellunlock, ebay, unlockunit) and all of them keep saying 'Samsung Unlock Code database is delayed'. Strange but that is what they keep saying.
Got refunded from cellunlocker and unlockunit. I just placed an order with cellunlock since they have this 50% off thing going on, so thought $7.50 is not bad at all for another try.
i tried cellunlock.net and they still havent sent me my code and its been more than 72 hours

Looks like I tried almost all avenues. Anyone looking for a quick, instant code - don't get your hopes high (anytime soon at least). Samsung global database is experiencing delays/issues (their words)!

i have been sitting with a locked SR for days now. no luck...
Btw, check out the T989 development thread for a post on unlocking the T989..there seems to be some activity happening there about the filesystem.

I am currently working for an ISP/Cell Provider in Ontario and we have been told MANY different things by many different companies and customers. Our CFO recently found the truth behind this. This goes for Canada AND USA.
The only reason that your Cell provider HAS to give you your unlock code is:
-if you FULLY purchase the phone out right (pay the $500+)
or
-if you are on a contract, at the end of the contract, they BY LAW have to give you the unlock code.
Some providers will give them away when the customer asks but that is generally an agent not knowing better or really not caring about their job.
The best way is to pay the $10 and get the unlock code.
I used http://cellunlockednow.com. It took about 6-8 hours to get the code and was $10.99 CAD.
Hope this helps.

If you're on T-Mobile and your account is in good standing and you have been a customer for 90 days or more, you can call up and ask for your unlock code. You do not need to provide a reason, and they will email it to you within 24 hours.
just call your carrier and give them the your IMEI number and they will give you the unlock code for free
I have also used HTCIMEI UNLOCK web site and literally I got my code in less than a minute. Used for sensation as well. I can uplod pics if you want me to.

It's within 14 days but usually 24 hours, just for clarification. I called a few days before leaving to Armenia last summer for T-Mobile to unlock a MyTouch 3G Slide and it literally took 14 days to get the email. Other times, I got it the next day.

If you sim unlock the phone, then you can put a sim card from any carrier worldwide and it should work.
htcimeunlock is amazingly fast and worked perfectally every time 4 me. or u can just call tmo and get it 4 free, thats what i did
As glhturbo had pointed out in another thread, cellunlock.net does it for $20/phone but with this code crackb50 you get 50% off. Worked great for my T-Mobile Sensation. Enjoy! =)
Get a buddy with a sensation "native" carrier to make the request.

No canadian carrier does this. Thanks for the input though.
OP: use MobileInCanada.com. Hands down the best service. $20 a phone, regardless of what it is, with very few exceptions.
I have a Virgin Sensation 4G on Telus now, I used this process, and I'm up and running full blast. You will not be disappointed.
Some notes in the process: Bell has a general policy to NOT SELL MOBILE PHONES TO PEOPLE WITHOUT BELL SERVICE. It's a dumb policy, but they're pretty firm about it. Luckily, their resellers are not bound to this same policy, going to T-booth, Wireless Wave, etc. any place that SELLS bell/Virgin phones but is not Bell/Virgin, you'll need to buy from. mobileincanada has been known to take as much as 4 Hrs to produce an unlock code, but it will come, and they will email you about it. they take paypal (and you can complete the transaction on a mobile device, such as an android).
Also, the phone will not have the APN for Telus, you'll have to add it. Google Telus APN, and you'll find all the relevant settings you need, or look up "using a non-telus device" on telus' webpage and they will give you basically the same settings for setting up data on a "non-telus phone".
Well, WIND are beginning to scare me. Before, when I needed my BB unlocked, it was as easy as sending them an email. Now, I need the G2x unlock code, not only I have to call them, but also to pay $10.
WTH? I'm still not that poor, but there's a matter of principle here - I have the phone, I'm paying for it since the beginning, I feel like someone is getting money for nothing. Would you pay if you were in my case?

When I signed up I was told that after 3 months WIND would supply the unlock code at no cost. I didn't want to wait 3 months so I paid for an unlock code. Here's where you can get an unlock code for 99 cents US through an Ebay seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unlock-Code...s=63&clkid=2846801209278919181#ht_2270wt_1037
Make sure that you give the correct numbers because, if there's an error, the unlock code won't work and there's a limited number of attempts allowed before the phone is hard-locked so that it will never be able to be unlocked from WIND.
WIND's customer service totally sucks.
I believe it was one free unlock every three months and some people on howardforums says it's 6.

One free unlock every three months for only one customer. Typical for WIND.
Does it say that as a rule somewhere on some document somewhere?

PM me and I can get you the unlock code for $2.00. Just click my donation link and give your IMEI in notes section of payment. You can get even cheaper on eBay but results vary from seller to seller.
???
You'll need an unlock code, which you'll need to purchase. There are a bunch of reliable sites, I got mine from www.cellunlocker.net
there is no way we can do it for free ???
No one here has posted a mod or script to do it for free, and the question has come up many times. But I'm sure it's possible and maybe no one's really tried hard enough.
It's my understanding that if you live in the US and have AT&T you can get a free unlock code from them, but a lot of users have reported that they give you a hard time before they give it to you.
I'm just mentioning this because maybe it's the reason that there hasn't been a high demand here for a sim unlock mod.
Please lost back here if you do find a free way.

Is there a similar unlock method like the HTC One S where the secret is hidden in the root?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693491
I remember reading about a hex edit for the cappy. Maybe someone who is interested could look it up and see how different our nv_data is and see if the same principal applies. I might take the task on when I decide to reactivate it on a new carrier.
No free method.
You could try Kachmann ...check this post.

Tell them you are moving to Canada for 6 months, and want to use it with Rogers.
I just got off the chat with AT&T They said they can not unlock my phone because I am in contract. I told them I bought it out right, then they wanted proof of purchase. I yelled at them a little then they said I would have to call samsung to get the code. The reason for that is a updated policy.

I just got off the line with AT&T and they told me that codes are not available at all for the Skyrocket. Some line about Samsung being under agreement with AT&T and they haven't released the codes to AT&T yet. I smell the distinct aroma of bovine fecal matter on that one...
I think I will be calling them back soon and yelling at them a little bit.... It's amazing how often that seems to work when you're calling customer support and they're being belligerent....
EDIT: Well, got back on the line with them, and now they want my receipt. I bought the phone a year ago. If I have the receipt, there is no telling where it would be. A whole lot of run around.
I spent a week trying to unlock my skyrocket for free, gave up walked into a flea market, walked out 15 minutes later and $25 lighter.
Yes, you can unlock it for free through AT&T. I was able to do it. It is a pain, but it will work. You need to use the online help, ask for a supervisor, and ask for a "OKCQSubsidyUnlock" case to be opened.
See post #39 in this thread (actually, read the whole thread):

I tried to get a code from AT&T and they would have given it to me but said it wasn't available for SR. I have heard that though that if you push hard enough they will give it to you. I don't know. I use Straight Talk now and I absolutely LOVE it. You can get an ATT sim card from them and you don't need to unlock. I have tried several pre-paid networks and they have been by far the best.
I agree, I've had straight talk for over a year using my Nokia SIM and this is my third android phone using the work around. No problems what so ever. Just plop in my e-71 SIM and put in the new apn and I'm good to go. I've never had to unlock any phone.

I just thought you should all know that AT&T legally has to sim unlock this phone, as with any as far as I know. It worked fine for me. Just use their support live chat and make sure to give the last 4 digits of your SSN. tell them directly and not sounding dumb "I would like to sim unlock my phone" and they will ask you for your IMEI then give you the code. If they do not try again, because legally they are required to.
+1 I've been doing this for years and years, but I usually just call and tell them I'm leaving the country for a week or two and need my sim unlock code.
++1
Every 2 years I give AT&T a call for this reason... never had trouble getting the subsidy unlock code while I was on the phone with them (if the rep is not too helpful, ask for a supervisor, or hang up and call back) - the first time I had to wait for the unlock codes was with this phone because the codes weren't widely released yet - it took a few days or a week to get the codes for this one.
But, I think AT&T can access the codes in real-time now, so they don't have to send it out to the "National Device Unlock Team" or whatever they called it..

Yep +1, been there done that. And I do the over the phone thing.... but I have been an AT&T customer since '99, and they do anything I ask them to anymore, without question.
In the past it used to be that you had to have been an AT&T customer for 90 days to get it, but that has supposedly recently changed. It is worth a try.

So, not sure what this is useful for -other than unlocking for other carriers, right? Would it work for (as mentioned above) travel outside the US, like I'm planning to visit Ireland next year and instead of adding the "AT&T World Traveler Plan" and paying the $5.99/mo plus whatever per minute, I just temporarily am using say, UK Orange while there? no. putting this code in once will permanently unlock your phone allowing it to be used with any carrier and sim, provided they run on GSM (every carrier outside the US, ATT+Tmobile in the US) and proper frequencies for our phone (anywhere but Japan and Korea basically). you can sign up for a prepaid plan in Europe, get a sim from them and pop it in. you will be prompted for a code. type in what AT&T gave you.

So I have been having a bad experience with T-Mobile. I just moved into a new house with my girl and son and I have the worst service. "Light Green" they called it...I only get 4G 20% of the time, with dropped called, missing texts or texts that take a couple hours to day to get to me, so I tried to get the cancellation fee waived, i went into T-Mo and they said they would send a request. I recieved a letter in the mail about 15 days after, saying that I was Declined and that I can just go outside in my car, or on the sidewalk to make a phone call or to get 4G....WTF MATE!?
Heres where it gets retarded...So I didnt really have a credit score when I initially signed up for T-Mobile. So I had to pay a deposit fee or whatever of $200 bucks...They said i would get that back after 1 year of paying. The day it became 1 year i called T-Mo. They said they would send it to my bank account and sent the request in. About 9 days later I get a phone call from an automated message saying my account wasnt eligible...So I went into the T-Mobile store and talked to them, and they couldnt give me a straight answer, so they called customer service and asked them to send me a visa card with the $200. 2 days after i check my account online and they credidted my T-Mo account and paid that months bill???!!!
I was pissed So I went into the store and I told them i did not ask for that and i asked why they would do this, they couldn't tell me why...So they sent a request to refund my tmo account then to send me the $200 to a visa AGAIN. About 2 weeks later I get $102.93 in the mail...They denied my request to refund me and still paid my bill and sent me the remainder.....And at the time i really needed the money.
I said screw them and I havent paid my bill it was due almost 2 weeks ago, and there about to shut me off. I planned on switching to Simple Mobile but when I called primetime to see prices and stuff they told me if i have a balance with tmobile that they would decline me...Metro also uses tmobiles network and walmart uses tmobiles network....
So my question is what can I do to get service on this phone? What plans do I have available, because I don't really plan on paying t-mobilem they can go screw. Im done with there BS.

Will T-Mobile lock this phone since I haven't paid? I'm trying to get a service plan I can use with this phone. I don't need data, I'm on WiFi most of the time where ever I go. So if I switch to air voice or at&t I would just pop in the sim card and be good to go?

They might look it if you have any remaining balance on the phone as in the monthly $15 payment for the device or did you pay it off full when you got it?

I don't know a free way. But I know some shops unlock them for like $15. Online you can get the same price. But make sure you get a real one and not those stupid scams.

$15? That's it? Prime time said they'd charge $150 to unlock...

T-Mobile gives it to you for free but if I were you I'd ask that friend to who has t-mobile to call them just give him you imei and they could get it for you because t-mobile might ask you to pay off your balance

Yeah that sounds like it would work, they don't ask what type of phone? Or Account name? I just checked out this YouTube video from cellunlocker.net, looks legit and only want like $7 to unlock.

I also checked out airvoice, do I even need to unlock it for them? They state there service works on any android phone and don't mention unlocking. I've never had to unlock any of my phones so I'm kinda new to this.

Maybe something like this could work for the blaze, it works on a lot of Samsung phones. Be worth a try. Just find right radio / ROM combo .

Awesome! Lots of people are saying it worked for them.
Just have to be on stock ROM , I'm going to start flashing and trying until I find one that works. Will post results, or if you get it working first let us know. :good:

Will do, still have to order a sim card. I will buy it either tomorrow or Monday and probably get it within a week or 2, otherwise I would have already tried it. The process seems pretty straight forward though and if it works on the S2, I don't see why it wouldn't work for us blazers but you never know.
You have to unlock for air voice it runs on att's network

i hope i got here in time.
T-Mob won't unlock your phone for three reason:
1. you don't have any outstanding balance
2. the devices has to be used on your line for 1 or 2 weeks
3. your line has to be in good standing and active for 40 days.
But if anybody who has t-mob tried to call and get the imei unlock code for your phone, i wouldn't suggest it as they may either have to send in the bills that shows you paid full price for the phone or the devices is used on their line for 7 days.
Also, from what you're stating, you probably didn't communicate clearly with T-Mob store rep, but sometime, you just have to find the right person, tell them stright off what happen and keep it simple and you'll be clear.
and as for the $200, i'm not surprised they had you put it in, and you DO have credit scores. they can come from any sources. the Public Library keeps one, getting a loan from any sources used under your SSN will affect your credit scores. any past debts unpaid will affect it as well. renting a house also affect it.
and i'm not sure, but if they're suppose to put it back into your account, and it haven't, it normally mean that someone screw up. and if i were you, i'm certain it isn't T-Mob that screw you over but the local place. if they have to call customer services, that mean they're a 3rd party store representing T-Mob. I would suggest you head back to the original place you got your phone and plan and speak to the person in charge. they might be the one refusing to give you the money, not t-mob.

What I meant when I said I didn't really have a credit score was because I never really had any bills under my name at the time of signing up with t-mo.
Trust me I communicated with them just fine...the person who I talked to in the store was the person who set me up with them, she's a really nice lady, so I know it wasn't her doing. I had originally called customer service to get my deposit back. They sent in the requst to fund my bank account originally. The lady at the t-mo store did everything correctly and showed me exactly what she did on the computer and I even talked to one of the account specialists.
It was T-Mobile being pricks. They didn't want to give me the money or at least not the whole thing, which was clear from what they were doing. They stated my bank account not being eligible in an automated message and because it wasn't "eligible" for absolutely no reason they put the money in my t-mo account instead and paid that months bill before I could even do anything and there was still 13 days till i had to pay the bill. Then denied my request to get my money back that they used to pay the bill, and denying the cancellation fee request for crappy unreliable service and telling me in a letter that I can go out in my car or the sidewalk to call and use 4g which still didn't work all that great outside.
This is definitely T-Mobiles fault not customer service. There money hungry a-holes and don't care for the customer as a whole.

Huh. you and i have two different experiences when it came to dealing with T-Mob. They tried to overcharge me once, but they credit my account.
I guess, our two experiences are different.
However, I would suggest you go speak to that lady and ask her what happen if you unlock your phone to use on other network if you still have outstanding account with T-Mob.
