Hey everyone,
Just wondering where people got their unlock codes that have a SIM unlocked Sensation.
I've been looking at http://www.mobileunlocked.co.uk/htc/sensation/ but it seems pretty expensive...

Can you share your experience with them? How fast did you get the code?
I'll be unlocking my BELL Sensation this week, so I guess I'll use their "check IMEI" feature first..

If you're on T-Mobile and your account is in good standing and you have been a customer for 90 days or more, you can call up and ask for your unlock code. You do not need to provide a reason, and they will email it to you within 24 hours.
just call your carrier and give them the your IMEI number and they will give you the unlock code for free
I have also used HTCIMEI UNLOCK web site and literally I got my code in less than a minute. Used for sensation as well. I can uplod pics if you want me to.

The orig carrier wont give me the unlock codes unless I'm their customer.

It's within 14 days but usually 24 hours, just for clarification. I called a few days before leaving to Armenia last summer for T-Mobile to unlock a MyTouch 3G Slide and it literally took 14 days to get the email. Other times, I got it the next day.
What is exactly the purpose of this? Could i use any prepaid service for this?

If you sim unlock the phone, then you can put a sim card from any carrier worldwide and it should work.
htcimeunlock is amazingly fast and worked perfectally every time 4 me. or u can just call tmo and get it 4 free, thats what i did
As glhturbo had pointed out in another thread, cellunlock.net does it for $20/phone but with this code crackb50 you get 50% off. Worked great for my T-Mobile Sensation. Enjoy! =)
Get a buddy with a sensation "native" carrier to make the request.

No canadian carrier does this. Thanks for the input though.
OP: use MobileInCanada.com. Hands down the best service. $20 a phone, regardless of what it is, with very few exceptions.
I have a Virgin Sensation 4G on Telus now, I used this process, and I'm up and running full blast. You will not be disappointed.
Some notes in the process: Bell has a general policy to NOT SELL MOBILE PHONES TO PEOPLE WITHOUT BELL SERVICE. It's a dumb policy, but they're pretty firm about it. Luckily, their resellers are not bound to this same policy, going to T-booth, Wireless Wave, etc. any place that SELLS bell/Virgin phones but is not Bell/Virgin, you'll need to buy from. mobileincanada has been known to take as much as 4 Hrs to produce an unlock code, but it will come, and they will email you about it. they take paypal (and you can complete the transaction on a mobile device, such as an android).
Also, the phone will not have the APN for Telus, you'll have to add it. Google Telus APN, and you'll find all the relevant settings you need, or look up "using a non-telus device" on telus' webpage and they will give you basically the same settings for setting up data on a "non-telus phone".

I think the phone has to be in service for either 60 or 90 days (don't remember which) and then they'll give you the unlock code. You have to tell them you're traveling internationally. It takes about 24 hours from the time of the request for HTC phones and the code is sent in an e-mail. I just got the code for my G2 which I'm selling to get a G2X. The code for the G2X has to come from LG so I don't know what their turn around time is.

I've heard if you've been a customer for (60-90? days), even prepaid, they'll give you an unlock code even on a freshly purchased phone. I've got a T-Mo prepaid card that I keep afloat with minimum top-ups for my trips to the US, so if I do buy the G2x or another T-Mo phone I should be able to get the unlock from them.
I thought it was mandatory now. If you ask for the unlock code, they have to give it to you regardless. Guess I was wrong?
Anyone here work at t-mobile that can give any solutions to non t-mobile customers who don't want to open an account?
I suspect this device is carrier locked, but I would buy one if I could confirm that I could use it on AT&T out of the box.

Sorry nomisunrider, not trying to hijack your thread, but since we are already Hijacking the o2x forum
I have another question for Non-T-Mobile (AT&T) people.
My question is how compatible is the G2X going to be with AT&T's "4G"?
Also I am currently using Nexus One AT&T 3G, but I am thinking that I should be able to change that to the 4G service without altering my contract, or loosing grandfathered "unlimited data plan"?
Any input or info much appriciated

T-Mobile isn't in the business of selling phones. They'll only sell you a phone in conjunction with a pre- or post-paid wireless plan. As someone said, out of the box the phone is locked to T-Mobile. You can request an unlock code after 60 or 90 days of maintaining an account in good standing.

I am also in this situation but I prefer not to buy from ebay. What about unlocking services? Do they permanently unlock the phone? Does flashing a different ROM on the phone affect the unlock?

Cant get it right away, but I am sure it will be available soon.

I believe the G2X is unlocked out of box I got to review the device today and it has at&t options under network settings like the Nexus One.
If you purchase out right you can get code immediately (meaning requesting the code). If its an upgrade/new activation must wait until buyers remorse is up and not be past due or had an unlock code in last 90 days. I'm not at work now but that's the policy, I believe not sure if its 90 or 60 though can't remember. Hope this helps

I've been asking around and several people have informed me that if you purchase the phone for full retail, t-mobile will provide you with an unlock code. I also found this on wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_lock#United_States
"One of the two national GSM carriers, T-Mobile,[43] will unlock handsets for those with active account in good standing for at least 40 days and no unlock code request in the last 90 days. T-Mobile will also unlock a phone if the full retail price is paid and proof of purchase is provided through a faxed document. "

Sorry to inform you, but you need to brush up on your company's policies.
I just got off of the phone with t-mobile customer care (1-877-453-1304). I called them because I wanted clarification on this before I purchased 2 full retail price phones.
The program is called the "Sim Subsidy Unlock Program." It is for anyone that purchases a phone for the full retail price from a corporate store or an authorized retailer and pays all of the price upfront.
You need to call customer care, explain that you purchased a phone for full price and request a "remedy request form number." They will then open this request and you then have 7 days to fax the following to the Sim Unlock Team at 1-813-353-6557 :
ATTENTION: SIM UNLOCK TEAM
Full Name
Mobile Number
Email Address
Readable Copy Of Sales Receipt
It takes 24 to 72 hours to process and they will email you instructions to unlock your phone.
Yeah, if you bought the phone full price, then you will not be required to wait any time to unlock the phone. The 3g and 4g frequency will not work well, or at all, because the phone uses 1700 and 2100 for 3g and 4g. The 1700 frequency is exclusive to T-Mobile.

Why not just buy one there? I have an unbranded Asian version from Malaysia that was Sim unlocked already and it didnt have the T-Mobile bloatware on it
been looking for a good and cheap unnlocking website for a while but no success so far:|
It's as simple as calling t-mobile and telling them you need to unlock it. Tell them that you're going overseas and need to have it unlocked to use on other carriers. I normally say that we're going on vacation and are going to use a pre-paid sim overseas. Then they send me an email after a couple of days with the unlock instructions + unlock code. I've done this 3 times with no problems.

This is correct. We will provide an unlock code to you free of charge with no questions asked. Just ask to be transferred to our Sim Unlock dept. and they will be more than happy to assist you.
oooo, i see isee, there is no a software to unlock this phone?
if this phone is already s-off, it will be unlocked ?
T-Mobile will only unlock the phone for you once they can verify that you are a T-Mobile customer, or you paid full price for the phone at one of their T-mobile branded stores and can fax them a copy of the receipt. I just went through all of this with them on Monday. If you cannot do either of those 2 things, they will not help you.
The only way to get it unlocked if you are not a T-mobile customer is an unlock service. I used a guy on ebay that unlocked 2 of them for me and sent me the code within 5 mins. He charged $24.95 per phone.

I got mine in a trade so I didnt pay out of pocket for it. Not sure what they retail for in NYC, more than a T-mobile one that's for sure since unlocked phones are usually a higher price
TMO rep told me they can't unlock the phone yet, I'll try again in couple weeks or so.
After spending a couple hours on the phone with T-Mobile trying to work out my data plan in the wee morning hours last week, I received the unlocking code for my Sensation accidentally. After going through all the hell to keep my old rate for my data plan, and finally succeeding, they asked "Will there be anything else Sir". I said "Yes, one more thing. Can I get the SIM Subsidy Unlock Code for my HD2? And being so tired and half awake, I might have given the wrong IMEI number, because the next day I received the unlock code for my Sensation and not my HD2.
I called back the next day and told a tech supervisor that they had sent the unlock code for the wrong phone. The women on the phone apologized and said they would send it without the 24hr wait, and I should receive it within 2hrs. But when receiving the Email from T-Mobile a couple of hours later, this was the response:
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. We have received your SIM Unlock Request. Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time. This subscriber has received an unlock code within the last 90 days. Per T-Mobile Policy only one unlock code will be provided per active subscriber every 90 days. Please submit a new request 90 days after the last unlock code was provided.
No big deal. I at least got the Sensation unlock code and just paid $20 online for the HD2 code.
gave tmobile a call. they seem to not want to give out unlock codes. they told me that i had to either pay for the price of the phone, the full price, or i need to use the phone 40 days. also got an email like this -
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. We have received your SIM Unlock Request. Unfortunately, this subscriber is not eligible to receive the unlock code at this time. In order to be eligible, the subscriber must complete 40 days of active service. Please submit a new request 40 days after this subscriber was activated.

I don't understand why t-mobile policy prohibit unlock requests within 90 days like that. I doesn't make sense at all. I would suggest to unlock your phone, or in my case the HTC Sense 4G, @ other unlock websites for $6.49 with REALLY NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

The t-mobile version, as well as the Asian & European version, won't work with AT&T 3G. The Canadian Bell version works with AT&T 3G, but it cost CAD550 before tax without contract to buy one from them. So be prepared to pay at least $600 to get one.
Is there any reason that you want to stick with AT&T (e.g. no t-mobile reception in your area or on a family plan)? I paid AT&T about $200 to break my contract, which still has another year before it ends. Sign up a new contract with t-mobile and get the Sensation for $150. So in the end I paid $350 for the phone, still a much better deal than paying $600+ for the Canadian version.
Hi,
I bought a T-Mobile locked HTC Sensation from the ebay. I wanted to get it unlocked from T-Mobile, but they will provide me the unlocking code for the mobile, unless I have an activated line from them. I found the following from the T-Mobile website, and need somebody who is a T-Mobile USA customer to help me out with this. If you are willing to help, send me a PM. I will send you the IMIE number, which could be used to get the unlocking code from T-Mobile.
SIM Unlock Code
For information on the SIM Unlock Code, refer to the following:
If you purchased a wireless phone from T-Mobile, your phone has been programmed with a SIM lock which will prevent the phone from operating with other compatible wireless telephone carrier’s services. If you wish to use the phone with the service of another wireless telephone carrier, you must enter a numeric SIM Unlock Code to unlock the phone.
For customers with a T-Mobile Postpaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 40 days of active service with T-Mobile.
For customers with a T-Mobile Prepaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 60 days of active service with T-Mobile and either a Prepaid Plan account balance of at least $10.00 or a prior refill within the last 30 days.
T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible former customers, provided that T-Mobile has such code or can obtain it from the manufacturer.
You may request the SIM Unlock Code for your phone, together with instructions for entering the code, by calling T-Mobile customer care at 1-800-937-8997.
i dont know if they do it but have you try calling htc? also i think there are sites that sell the unlock codes.
I tried for the past week to unlock via T-Mobile. Complete waste of my time. Too many wasted hours on the phone with them. And I WAS eligible!

I work in tech care myself and would like to clear something up. T-Mobile does not have unlock codes, period. IF you are eligible (must have an account obviously), your IMEI and account info gets sent to an unlock team, and they get the code directly from the manufacturer. It's not like they have the code ready and said "Go F yourself" lol.
What reason do they have to unlock a phone that is so new they obviously did not recuperate their subsidy yet and for someone who hasn't paid a dime worth of fees.

Not everyone has purchases their phones on contract. Some people buy them outright... and prefer them sim unlocked for traveling with.
I am one of those few people who do just that. T-mobile told me that I need to wait 60 days between time of purchase and sim unlock... Or I could get it done by a third party, usually $25 to do. Google "sim unlock htc sensation"
@stoneyjonez : Ok.. got you. Can you tell me if they would give me the unlock code if a person with a T-Mobile account ( long standing ) and asked them for the unlock code ? Obviously that person wouldnt have bought the phone directly from them
cellunlocker . net I recommend currently only 19.99 for unlock code and takes up to 3 hours
In the past I tried to get a Motorola ROKR E8 unlocked through them. I was eligible and they said they would submit something to whoever they have to submit it to. I tried 3 times and never heard back from anyone. Phone was never unlocked :-(
I would just go online and pay for one, you get way better service that way. Its not like $25 is a big spend compared to the retail cost of the phone your unlocking.
Thanks for all your responses folks !! In my opinion its a bit dodgy to send money to anybody on the net. I have read too many stories where the money is gone but no unlock code. But I can take the recommendations given by others and buy from a reliable service..
Usually yes...if you give your imei to a T-mobile customer they will give them the unlock code for it.
Here is what happened when I sold my Vibrant after buying my new Sensation: I requested the unlock code from t-mo, they replied in 24 hours that the phone would not be unlocked due to it not being the current phone on the network for my account. (I then unlocked the Vibrant by rooting it and using an unlock method via adb)
So I am guessing that a t-mo customer would not be able to help out, since the phone would not be on the network.
From what I have read on the internet, if you tell them that you are travelling internationally and would like to use a local sim, they give you the unlock code. Also, see my first post where I have posted the rules specified on the T-Mob website for requesting a unlock code and the guidelines they use for qualification of a customer.
i use my sensation on the network and so i called in to request my unlock code..they did all the button pushing on their side and said i will get an email within 72 hours with the unlock stuff...will post when i get it or what i get.

Cellunlock.net can unlock it. They unlocked mine. You might be better off selling your skyrocket and getting the T mobile SGS II. I used a T mobile SIM to unlock my skyrocket after getting the code and I do not think you get hspa speeds for data, I think it was EDGE if I remember. The voice worked fine.
Hey guys
Isnt there a manual DIY way to unlock the Skyrocket? I have searched and searched and searched and only thing i turn up is...'goto cellunlocker.com'. Those guys charge a whopping 30 dollars for this.
There are numerous methods and tools for other S2 variants...but nothing for this one?
Hasnt anyone found it yet? Surely it cant be that difficult.
You do know they will give you the code as long as your account is in good standing and it also depends on the age of your account. I've been with this **** company for 5 yrs now. Anytime I've asked I've never been denied.
Take it they didn't make the mistake of having the unlock code on the phone this time like they did for the Captivate...?

I have been with AT&T for 5 years now. They say this device has exclusive contract with AT&T and cannot be unlocked, period. They forwarded my application to the device unlock team with no results whatsoever. They just denied me the code.
I tried various unlocking sites (cellunlocker, cellunlock, ebay, unlockunit) and all of them keep saying 'Samsung Unlock Code database is delayed'. Strange but that is what they keep saying.
Got refunded from cellunlocker and unlockunit. I just placed an order with cellunlock since they have this 50% off thing going on, so thought $7.50 is not bad at all for another try.
i tried cellunlock.net and they still havent sent me my code and its been more than 72 hours

Looks like I tried almost all avenues. Anyone looking for a quick, instant code - don't get your hopes high (anytime soon at least). Samsung global database is experiencing delays/issues (their words)!

Btw, check out the T989 development thread for a post on unlocking the T989..there seems to be some activity happening there about the filesystem.

I placed order yesterday and it was cancelled today for unavailability of the code from ATT.
They said they need to retrieve it from Samsung's database and the cost will go up.

I believe it's federal law now, they have to give you the unlock code. Assuming the purchase was legit.

I am currently working for an ISP/Cell Provider in Ontario and we have been told MANY different things by many different companies and customers. Our CFO recently found the truth behind this. This goes for Canada AND USA.
The only reason that your Cell provider HAS to give you your unlock code is:
-if you FULLY purchase the phone out right (pay the $500+)
or
-if you are on a contract, at the end of the contract, they BY LAW have to give you the unlock code.
Some providers will give them away when the customer asks but that is generally an agent not knowing better or really not caring about their job.
The best way is to pay the $10 and get the unlock code.
I used http://cellunlockednow.com. It took about 6-8 hours to get the code and was $10.99 CAD.
Hope this helps.

???
You'll need an unlock code, which you'll need to purchase. There are a bunch of reliable sites, I got mine from www.cellunlocker.net
there is no way we can do it for free ???
No one here has posted a mod or script to do it for free, and the question has come up many times. But I'm sure it's possible and maybe no one's really tried hard enough.
It's my understanding that if you live in the US and have AT&T you can get a free unlock code from them, but a lot of users have reported that they give you a hard time before they give it to you.
I'm just mentioning this because maybe it's the reason that there hasn't been a high demand here for a sim unlock mod.
Please lost back here if you do find a free way.

Is there a similar unlock method like the HTC One S where the secret is hidden in the root?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693491
I remember reading about a hex edit for the cappy. Maybe someone who is interested could look it up and see how different our nv_data is and see if the same principal applies. I might take the task on when I decide to reactivate it on a new carrier.
No free method.
You could try Kachmann ...check this post.

That's where I got mine. Easy ordering, and I got my code within about 30 minutes, as opposed to the 1-5 hours they quoted me.
unlock code
AT&T told me that becasue the Skyrocket is exclusive with AT&T a free unlock code is unavailable.

Tell them you are moving to Canada for 6 months, and want to use it with Rogers.
I just got off the chat with AT&T They said they can not unlock my phone because I am in contract. I told them I bought it out right, then they wanted proof of purchase. I yelled at them a little then they said I would have to call samsung to get the code. The reason for that is a updated policy.

I just got off the line with AT&T and they told me that codes are not available at all for the Skyrocket. Some line about Samsung being under agreement with AT&T and they haven't released the codes to AT&T yet. I smell the distinct aroma of bovine fecal matter on that one...
I think I will be calling them back soon and yelling at them a little bit.... It's amazing how often that seems to work when you're calling customer support and they're being belligerent....
EDIT: Well, got back on the line with them, and now they want my receipt. I bought the phone a year ago. If I have the receipt, there is no telling where it would be. A whole lot of run around.
I spent a week trying to unlock my skyrocket for free, gave up walked into a flea market, walked out 15 minutes later and $25 lighter.
Yes, you can unlock it for free through AT&T. I was able to do it. It is a pain, but it will work. You need to use the online help, ask for a supervisor, and ask for a "OKCQSubsidyUnlock" case to be opened.
See post #39 in this thread (actually, read the whole thread):

They asked for a proof of purchase (and gave me only 48 hours to fax it to them. I bought this phone in February, and I no longer have any idea whatsoever where the receipt is. So no joy for me.

I paid for the unlock, USD25.00 got my unlock code in about 5 hours. I think it was www cellunlocker net
Yeah, I've been thinking about just buying a code. The only thing that still ties my phone to being an AT&T device is the network lock. How Kong did it take you to get the code?

I tried to get a code from AT&T and they would have given it to me but said it wasn't available for SR. I have heard that though that if you push hard enough they will give it to you. I don't know. I use Straight Talk now and I absolutely LOVE it. You can get an ATT sim card from them and you don't need to unlock. I have tried several pre-paid networks and they have been by far the best.
I agree, I've had straight talk for over a year using my Nokia SIM and this is my third android phone using the work around. No problems what so ever. Just plop in my e-71 SIM and put in the new apn and I'm good to go. I've never had to unlock any phone.
