have att, elligble for an upgrade now. Realistically i want a GSM Galaxy Nexus, but i fear ATT will never actually offer it. Whats my best option at this point for upgrade?
1. Galaxy S II Skyrocket
2. Wait for Galaxy Note
3. Wait until next August, get iPhone 5 (4s2, whatever) on release day, sell for stupid amount of money, buy next Nexus variant which should be release around the same time
4. Wait for Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD
5. Other, please specify.
Which phones offered by ATT are going for straight trades in the forums for GSM Galaxy Nexus?
no opinions?

I am thinking about upgrade my Eris(version of the Hero) to either the Droid 2 or the Galaxy S for Verizon. However, I keeping reading that in November Verizon is going to be launched LTE, and I'm in one of those cities where a launch is planned. So, the question comes should I upgrade to one of those aforementioned phones or should I wait for LTE and accompanying Android phone to come out(in this case LTE/CDMA hybrid)?
LTE phones probably wont be out till late Q1 2011 if you can wait i would, if not do what i did.
i ended buying an EVO outright not to get into a contract so i can switch once the first Verizon Android LTE phones come out. then i can just sell the EVO on eBay.
So as the galaxy s II will soon be launched in the U.S. i was wondering how many of you people were getting it. I ask this because i dont know if i should wait til next year, which is when samsung has been known to release a dual core 2ghz phone... (is this even trustworthy?)
so i was wondering how many of you guys were getting the galaxy s II or just waiting for next year perhaps, for the dual core phone.
i plan on getting it once its released in the U.S. and when the first samsung phone with a 2ghz dual core processor is released, ill be getting that too. im a phone whore.
I knew once I would get my Captivate, a better phone would come out... Low and behold the Galaxy S II. -__-
The best price I've found for the SGS II is $743 shipped from Handtec. I'm very tempted.

Yes. And you're doomed to delayed updates, no free tethering, no unknown sources apps, less dev support, removed features, etc. etc.
Look at the Captivate compared to the i9000. It's the same thing. And there's no guarantee that the i9100 ROMs will be portable to whatever bastardized thing ends up on AT&T. For a long time the Vibrant could run nothing but Vibrant ROMs. The Fascinate is totally boned.
So if you're interested in any of that, then yes.
Otherwise the i9100 will work on AT&T.
I'm gonna wait out my contract and buy an international S3 model when it comes out. I'm tired of being f*cked by AT&T (week long service black-outs with "no known issues", billing errors, hidden fees, dropped calls, etc.) and would rather jump on an MVNO or something

Why not buy it unlocked and unbranded once it's released in the US? Or will it only be available through the operators...

Another option, if in fact Samsung plans to do that.
I plan on waiting until at least end of the year before I buy a new phone. The captivate really has some of the best hardware around right now even though its not the top anymore.
I kind of want the kyocera echo. But I definitely want some with stock gingerbread. Might just wait and see what device gathers a bunch of support.
can you just buy a international version of galaxy S II and then use it on at&t?
would you have to unlock to do that?
ANd do you guys think the galaxy s III will come out about 2012 may?
and then you're galaxy s3 will be obsolete when the 3ghz processor comes out, just buy now because you'll be waiting for ever for the next best thing.
Wow ~$700 from overseas? That's actually a great deal. Just wish I had that money to toss around. Instead, I'm using $1000 as a down payment on a new car.
Oh well..
I got my Captivate at the end of July so my contract will be up summer 2012 so at the current rate of releases the S3 will be out or some other phone that is so much better at that time will be out.
I'm poor and cheap so I have to buy on contract

Well hopefully your new car will have low payments or no payments, otherwise, you could always skip the car and buy a sgs 2 lol.

Well using the poor and cheap is bad, I would say it is smarter because why pay $ 500+ for a phone off Contract if the contract price is $ 200? I have paid on contract $ 500+ for a cell phone and never again *Blackberry Bold 9000 when it first came out*, and the phone started having physical problems 5 days before the captivate came out and ATT let me upgrade a week early with out having to pay an early upgrade fee. I have not had any issues at all with my captivate and it runs fine.

by 2013 amd will make a 3watt processor on 28nm architecture, likey multi core. i think that could support 3ghz+ on low voltages, maybe more. they plan to use it in an andriod tablet.
I think I'm gonna get the SGSII, but I'm not sure yet. AT&T is supposed to come out with a lot of new Android phones this year, are they not?

I haven't seen the specs but if it's compatible with ATT's bands then that would be the way to go. You would definitely not have to unlock as it wouldn't be locked to begin with
International phones are not locked to any carier. They have more consumer friendly laws in Europe than we do here in gitmo nation. If I am wrong please tell me.

Samsung Galaxy SIII ($200 contract extension)

I would sell my current phone (Droid X2) for $100 thus giving me a $50 profit if I get the Nexus. What would you choose and why?
Galaxy Nexus:
*Still be flagship google phone
*Updates everywhere
*CHEAPER (300% CHEAPER)
*Not too much differences between Dual Core and Quad..
I was thinking the Galaxy Nexus as well.
I was thinking the Galaxy Nexus as well. I have [2x] Droid X2's and I can sell both for $100 each, if I get the Nexus I will be profiting $150 give or take. I will most likely go for the Nexus.

AT NOW, i think it's ur best choice
Yeah thanks for the input, plus the development is already there for the Nexus might as well go for it.
I am also love the Samsung galaxy nexus.
Would you consider buying a G Nexus for $350 and going pre-paid?
Note: This is all about T-Mobile
Costco has the Samsung Galaxy S III for $179
T-Mobile has the Samsung Galaxy S II for $0
What would you do?
BTW, hackability is my #1 priority. Right now, the S3 has fewer options than the S2 so that is my hangup. Also why I don't want a Galaxy Note.
If those are the only two you're considering, I'd go with the S III just because you don't want to be thinking about an upgrade before your phone has even arrived. I think in the long run you'd be kicking yourself for buying an older device.
The dev support for the s2 is going to drop off eventually and the S3 is only going to get larger.

Good point.
Look at the long run. You can hold off longer for a upgrade.

I'll let you know how that works out for each of those devices. I just bought them both. My wife gets the S2.
I'll pick the T-Mobile has the Samsung Galaxy S II for $0 as it is free
I currently have the S2 and it's awesome!!! But why would you go for the older model when the new model is out there and it's freaking awesome as well??
If you are looking for more hacking support then I would go with the SII only because I doubt the support for it will die down soon... The hardware in the phone is superior to other smartphones that came out in the same year. With a dual-core processor and a gig of RAM, I don't think the SII is going anywhere anytime soon!!
i just bought the s3 for that price and i'm loving it. i went from the s to s3 and what a jump.
I'm an S2 user (well, sort of - Epic 4G Touch) and am quite happy with it; it performs exponentially better than what I had before (a 1st-generation iPhone...).
Is the S3 from Costco being offered as unlocked? If so, I'd go get both; nab the T-Mobile-offered S2 for free, then move the SIM card to the S3 and sell the S2. However, if Costco is only selling it with a carrier plan, then that probably isn't going to work, in which case I'd say to go with the S3.
I would suggest you to buy a s3 .. then sell it to me for cheap .. hahahaha.
Ps go for s3

buy the galaxy s3 from costco as im pretty sure they dont require you to be locked onto a plan, whereas if you choose tmobile you'd probably get a locked device and you might have like a very long contract.
the samsung galaxy 3 is more powerfull and son have more hackers too
Both good, buy the s3.

I have an oppurtunity to get the Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile for free (on two year contract), but the Nexus 4 isn't in stock and will cost me $200 on a two year contract. It's a hard decision for me, since the Nexus 4 is quad core and a Nexus phone. On the other hand, the S3 has expandable memory, costs me less money, and I can get it now, rather than wait for Nexus 4 to come back to stock.
I know I'll get updates slower on the S3, but I plan on installing a custom rom (Cyanogenmod or AOKP) and I believe the S3 on T-Mobile has a good developer community.
What should I do?
I'm currently using an OG Droid on Verizon.
Verizon is getting way too expensive and I figured I can save lots on T-Mobile.
Thanks

The S3 is clearly a better deal here. If you were going for the Nexus, it'd be better to buy it unlocked from Google (no contract).
