I am thinking about upgrade my Eris(version of the Hero) to either the Droid 2 or the Galaxy S for Verizon. However, I keeping reading that in November Verizon is going to be launched LTE, and I'm in one of those cities where a launch is planned. So, the question comes should I upgrade to one of those aforementioned phones or should I wait for LTE and accompanying Android phone to come out(in this case LTE/CDMA hybrid)?
LTE phones probably wont be out till late Q1 2011 if you can wait i would, if not do what i did.
i ended buying an EVO outright not to get into a contract so i can switch once the first Verizon Android LTE phones come out. then i can just sell the EVO on eBay.

OK so...
I am currently on At&t and I use an unlocked T-Mobile G2. I love the phone except for the fact that I can't use the at&t 3g bands. Now, I could buy the desire z nam which operates on 850/1900 3g bands, which would allow me onto at&t 3g. BUT, At&t coverage in my area is what I would consider sub-par.
I am on a family plan with 4 lines, 3 of which have the contract ending in january. The 4th, won't end until sometime in 2012.
My predicament/options:
1. switch the 3 lines from at&t to verizon/sprint in january and leave the 4th on its own on att til the contract ends (I dont want to pay the $175 early termination fee to end the contract early)
2. Leave all 4 lines with at&t until the 4th line ends. At that point, I would re-evaluate my network options and see if I want to go ahead and switch networks.
I'm in the same boat my friend!
I'm using an unlocked HD2 and am on a similar family plan.. The only difference is that att coverage here isn't too bad. So I've decided to wait another month or two and see what happens with device releases.
For you, I would switch the 3 lines to sprint (not verizon) and then you'll still have the at&t line coupled with the desire z which is a nice device as is, and at least you'll have 3g now.

Only good for today- August 3rd 2011!!!
only in USA?
I may go pick one up today .
I may get one, too. Been waiting to upgrade from my Hero CDMA until my 2 year upgrade and get maybe a 3VO or whatever is available in September... but how can I pass up a deal like this?
Anyone think I'll be kicking myself if I get myself stuck with a Nexus S 4G (I'm with Sprint) when all the new phones loaded with awesomesauce come out?
Dont do it. Not if you have to sign a contract.
It's coming to AT&T and T-Mobile Soon. Got FCC picture that confirms and it looks like it's not going to have LTE but it should be a bad phone.

That's cool I guess. But why no LTE support if coming to AT&T? The updated SGSII will have LTE support. Thanks for the heads up.
Oh, and I think you mean '...but it shouldn't be a bad phone.'
It's the same version that is on sale in Europe and it could of just gone through the FCC for a Canadian release
My guess would be that with only 16 markets at the end of November covered in AT&T's LTE, it would make more sense to initially release it like this. Eventually I'm sure it will hit LTE.
Sent from Steve Jobs' iPhone
it will come but not anytime soon !!!
Are there any interesting VZW phones on the horizon? I picked up my Thunderbolt in March of last year, and have been fairly happy with it (main issues are size & battery life). When looking at Verizon's site, no new phone really jumps out of me, but as I haven't been following phone forums in a while, I'm not sure where the best place to research is on new phones due to come out.
Watch Droid-life.com They talk about phone rumors for Verizon.
The next phone out of Verizon will be the incredible 4g. Not a big upgrade from The thunderbolt but solid phone anyways. Should be out in the next few weeks. Other than that there is the Galaxy S3, Razr HD, and the LG Optimus LTE2 all coming out sometime later this summer. After that some awesome stuff should be out around Thanksgiving/Christmas with Jellybean.
Total speculation here, but Verizon might wait to release these phone until they have their new tiered data share plans to force people into those if they want a new phone...
So quick question. I have a Iphone 5 under contract in AT&T from April 26th. I might go for the HTC one or S4 in the Future, like in the upcoming months. How long before we can use a early upgrade?( I am talking about the one with the extra $250 that you pay for getting a different phone).
Thanks
