So I flashed the latest Rom for my KF, VideoTouch1-20. For the most part the Rom is awesome, getting better each update and with audio finally working I can use my sucker as a big a$$ mp3 player. Anyways I ran into a problem that I haven't seen being addressed on the KF forum.
Audio works thru speaker just fine. When I plug my earphones into it, comes thru my earphones. When I unplug it though audio does not restore back to speakers again. I have 3 KF's(ppl on craigslist are selling them cheap and afraid to super brick one) and I've been able to replicate it thru all of them. I haven't yet tested them on previous builds yet(at work right now) but I was wondering has anyone else run across this problem.
I've made sure that its not muted, volume is all the way up, audio should have been restored back to speakers once unplugged. If i reconnect my earphones back though audio goes back to earphones. I have to kill my music app(or any audio app i was using to get it back to speaker again) or restart it.
Would address this on the KF forum but I cant yet
Hopefully Im not alone and yes I did my research on this... Actual followed the thread since the beginning. Very good reading material and learning experience.

[NEVERMIND...I GOT IT WORKING. IT SEEMS LIKE A BAD CONNECTION TO THE SPEAKER. IF I PUSH DOWN ON IT, IT WORKS FINE.]
This morning I was listening to one of my podcasts through bluetooth (A2DP). When I was done, I turned bluetooth off to bring the sound back to the phone. I wanted to show someone a youtube video. It was playing fine through the phones on-board speaker and then all of the sudden it just stopped playing the audio. The video was still playing. Initially I thought it was just a youtube thing but then I tried the music player and no audio would play over the phones speaker. I then tried rebooting the phone. Still no luck. I then used ROM manager to restore one of my backups. No luck. And yes, I have checked all volume levels and they are all turned up. The in call speaker works just fine but speaker phone does not. Any suggestions?? Bad speaker/connection? Do I need to go back to the shipped ROM and unroot the phone?
Push down on what?
I am having the exact same issue!!!
Phone calls work fine. But, no sound from speakers.
So I dont hear any notifications, cant put the phone on speaker, no alarm sound, etc.
ok.
i was able to resolve the issue. I had to push down hard on the speaker with my thumb, and wala!!! it started working.
i did a factory reset though... arrrrrgghhh... i wish i had tried this before the dang factory reset. Oh well, atleast the sound is working now.
I had this problem when I bought my Captivate and installed a clear plastic case made by Incipio. The case had a really tight fit. I believe it was squeezing the Captivate housing which causes the speaker to not make a connection to the circuit board. I found out when I was just playing around with ringtones and suddenly I couldn't hear anything coming out of the speaker. I rebooted the phone and even the animated AT&T and Galaxy S logos didn't make a sound. I played an MP3 and still no sound until I lightly tap the phone against my palm. I got the sound back. This happened again when I was showing a video to my friends. The sound cut off. I tapped the phone against my palm again. I got the sound back.
The following morning, I removed the case and played an entire album through the speakers. I did not encounter any speaker problems. I concluded that it must have been the tight case by Incipio which I had purchased at the AT&T store. I returned it and got the Body Glove gel case. Better.
So far I've tried both TnT Lite and the VEGAn roms and by far I prefer the VEGAn rom. My only issue is every once in a while, usually when something uses audio (movie, music or even a typing sound) I get a static/hissing/sounds like your TV is on a channel that doesn't have anything on it sound.it goes away after a couple seconds, but it's at full volume, doesn't matter of the audio is turned all the way down and will do it again if I do anything. I've tried the add and remove headphones, but it doesn't work. I've wiped and reinstalled the ROM, but it always comes back. The hissing/static sound happens on either the headphones or the speakers. Audio will work again when I reboot the unit but only for a little while. Any solutions?
There's another thread about a similar issue. 5 or 6 people responded that they get a crackle or pop every now and again. I get it also. One guy had it with the stock ROM. Another guy gets it through headphones when jogging.
No solution posted that I can find.
Thanks for the info. I guess it's either a hardware issue or an incompatibility between android and the driver.
I'm getting constant speaker hiss through the headphone jack, even when nothing is playing and when the display is off. Only exception is if the tablet is fully powered off. I'm flashed to VEGAn right now, but was getting the same hiss with TnT Lite. Didn't leave the stock ROM on long enough to know if it's happening there, too.
I get the same problem with some low volume hiss via headphone jack. Only happens when devices is in "sleep" -- not when powered off...
Sounds like this ROM (Vegan 5.1) leaves the the jack powered when in sleep...
My phone had the same problem until the ROM it was based on got fixed (it's running a CyanogenMod derivative)
It may be fixed in the CM7 builds -- so given that the next Vegan will incorporate some CM code as well, I'm hoping it will be fixed soon...
It has to be draining the battery if it is true that the jack is powered when in sleep...
I can't figure this out. The sound will randomly stop working on my Gtab.
No matter what I do, besides rebooting I cannot get it to come back on. When I try to go into sound options and touch the media slider or the alarm slider the activity force closes.
I have Vegan 5.1 installed with the 5.11 supplement over it.
I've tried wiping and installing fresh multiple times and it keeps happening. Only a reboot fixes it.
If someone can help me I'd really appreciate it.
It won't help you but I have the same problem
I discovered this while disconnecting BT headset and the audio was
never rerouted back to speakers.
Add me to the list, but playing with the 3 slider revived it, hapened after I pluged the earphones and removed them

Hey guys I too have this problem and cannot fix it
I've noticed the same problem. Running Vegan 5.11 also.
So is this a problem only vegan users are seeing? Anybody with TNT or any of the other ROMs seeing this at all?

Yeah, it happens with me also, the only thing that seems to work is to plug in a headset into the audio jack and remove it while the audio is playing.
I can't believe more people are not having this problem. I mean the headphones removal thing doesn't even work for me. I pretty much always have to reboot. It makes this great tablet such a pain in the butt to use.
Same for me here...
Same for me here... Using TnT Lite 4.2.0
Audio works perfectly in my bluetooth stereo headset. Turning off bluetooth, I have no audio from speakers, and only from right when using headphones via the audio jack...
Don't know what to do.
UPDATE:
In my case it appears that some headphones plug pushed the last tab too far, leaving it making contact with something that disables speakers. I tested this by playing with a plug, moving it to the sides until sound comes back for a second. I tried to pull out the tab from inside the jack but I couldn't. Any one has disassembled the GTab and checked if the tabs are accessible from outside the jack housing?
ANOTHER UPDATE:
OMG I think I made the jack become loose, maybe I pushed too hard...
Time to get it disassembled to check from inside :-S
Playing "I got a feeling" in the external speakers !
I got it fixed... I had to open it, adjust the headphones jack's tabs and resolder.
What I learned:
1. Will never plug anything in that jack ! It's too fragile. It doesn't have reinforcing tabs, only the six surface contacts soldered... I'm really disappointed about this. So, only Bluetooth headphones for me.
2. The audio jack housing is very fragile as well, I cracked mine.
3. I had to reinforce both audio and power jacks with melted glue and a plastic tab between them.
3. I will use the power jack very gentle from now on. It's the same install like the audio jack, too fragile. If the tablet falls with the power cable connected, it will broke for sure.
4. I'm going to replace this tablet for another with android but with better construction, I suppose motorola or samsung.
Well, happy anyway that the speakers are working again.
Plug in headphones, wait.... pull out headphones. Yay!!! sound again. I just started carrying a pigtail with me in my Gtab case. Just the plug from old crap headphones I cut off.
Something I've noticed that helps a lot is to not press the volume button in increments. Just hold it and not let go until you've reached the appropriate level.

This, as I mentioned does NOT at all work for me. Ever. It's never once worked to do that.
At this point I'm really considering ponying up another 200 or so and get something that I don't have to reboot 5 times a day.
Whenever there's pressure on the back of my Transformer (e.g. laying flat on a table), the speaker audio cuts out. It's only started doing this recently but I really don't know since I mostly use it with the dock. Anyone else experience this issue?
A week ago my right speaker suddenly stopped working entirely. They both always worked just fine, never had the balance issue that others had. Then, I was watching a YouTube video one day... I hear a few quiet "pops", and ever since no Right speaker - BOO!!!
Headphones still seem to work just fine though
Haven't opened it up yet, but I'm assuming it'll just need a new speaker. This might actually give me the chance to upgrade them to some louder speakers.. hmm..
Hi all,
I have successfully rooted and flashed Paranoid Android 2.54 onto my ATT HOX and it is a wonderful ROM for sure. I love the options that it provides and the silky smooth, almost stock interface. The only real issue that I have come across is when I try to use a headset for calls. I am defining a headset as a 3.5mm plug in set of earbuds with mic (Klipsch S4i to be exact). When I listen to music, be it on Pandora, Google Music or Apollo all is well. As soon as I try to use the phone, no sound comes through the earbuds and the mic does not function. In fact you can see a noticable slow down in the dialer app when the headset it even plugged in. If I make a call, then plug in the headset, everything goes silent and the other side can't hear me until I unplug the headset from the phone.
Here is the real kicker though! I have my car stereo modded with an aux 3.5mm plug for listening to music and if I plug the phone into that it works just fine in phone mode! Now, I do realize that the Klipsch is setup as a TRRS and the car aux is just TRS (so when using the car stereo I am effectively bypassing the mic portion of the 3.5mm plug and using the phone's mic), but I cannot for the life of me understand why the headset will not work.
I am hoping that someone can enlighten me or least tell me that they to are experiencing this same issue. I will gladly provide any more info that someone might need to help diagnose the issue, and thanks in advance!
Update so far...
So, up to this point here is what I've found. If I plug in a normal set of earphone (read buds only no mic inline) then I will get sound through them no matter what I am doing (youtube, music or phone). Also, in this configuration anyone I am talking to on the phone can hear me just fine as I am using the phone's mic. However, when I plug in an earbud/mic combo the phone will not function. I get silence and the other side cannot hear me speaking either. It's as if the software has somehow told the headphone jack to act differently than it used to with earbud/mic combos. I am stumped as to why the OS would not allow this type of use when it is so standard. Anyone have any thoughts?
I actually have the same headset and I started having problems with it on the stock rom before I even rooted and flashed a custom one. I honestly just thought it was because they're really made for apple phones. Sometimes I'll just unlplug and plug them back in for them to register. Other than that I haven't seen a fix for them.
P.S. Klipsch control from the play store seemed to make things worse for me

Thanks for the response! Yeah, I think I am going to try another ROM just to see if it will help, but I have the distinct feeling it might be a hardware issue. I just can't understand why this would all the sudden malfunction right after rooting for me. Maybe just a coincidence. I will definitely respond here though if flashing to a new ROM helps...

I've never tried paranoid but King kang(which has paranoid elements) works fine for the most part. nocturnal'd dirty rom, miui, and cm10 have all worked for me tho. I'm currently on the unofficial cm10.1 4.2 and that's working for me as well, except when I have the headset plugged in while booting.
Final Update....And SUCCESS
So, it appears that it was some sort of ROM specific issue. I flashed CleanROM 5.1 to my phone and "wah-lah"! The headset works perfectly in all modes. I am not sure what it was about Paranoid Android 2.54 that would not allow the headset/mic combo to work with the phone, but I am free of it now I guess. I will miss the interface of PA, but boy does CleanROM run FAST!!! I am in awe of the speed and responsivness. I hope the battery life holds up like PA did for me and I also think that the quick settings on CleanROM basically RULE.
