No each rom is specialized to a specific phone unless otherwise stated. The best ics rom I have used to so far which looks almost identical to that rom is [ROM] Sky Ice Cream Sandwich (2.3.5 <<WHAT DOES THIS SAY?) Multiple Flavors 1/24/12
Many kudos to seanscreams. Good documentation, quick, and average battery life, by my testing.
Cheers

If the T-Mobile version gets it, then we may see it sooner than the official release. the OG GSGII has very different hardware.

Converter
There is a way to put S2 roms on skyrockets but I'm not very familiar with it and I've never tried it out etc.
i can't remember where it is but its in the Dev section i believe and its a converter so u install the rom then convert it from recovery menu and stuff
idk don't hold my word to it because i haven't tried it yet
but just an idea

Won't work, different hardware, different hardware identifiers, different...differences.
It's all speculation at this point.
Besides, there's already a build out there floating around, but key features aren't working.

Let me get this right...
You don't know where you got this info from, don't remember where this mythical tool is, and you haven't tried yet, but you are confident it is doable?
Let us all know when you remember where we can get this imaginary tool. I am not holding my breath meanwhile.

I'm sure he's thinking of the method of getting T-Mobile Hercules roms over to our Skyrocket... That's not too big of a deal, because again, the hardware is the same, just different modems need to be used.
But like stated before, this won't happen. May be the same OS, but without the same hardware, it's useless to us. We're not going to get ICS until they release it/it leaks for either the Skyrocket or Hercules.

tried flashing samsung galaxy s 4g 2.3.4 leaked rom...

so i got bored and tried flashing a samsung galaxy s 4g leaked 2.3.4 rom... i did it thru odin everything went fine after it got done flashing, sound booted up but screen did not turn on for me... i tried taking the battery out and turning it back on... nothing but the sound coming on, then i tried going into download mode it wouldnt let me. so i guess i bricked it. but anyways went to tmobile got a new sidekick. so my question is if im able to flash thru odin successfully and the boot sound comes on, is it possible to flash a samsung galaxy s 4g rom if a dev put some work into it?
It shoulb be possible but first the would have to still get a. Ginger kernel that works with our hardware
Sent From My Rooted Sidekick 4g XDA Premium App
Odin flashing is nothing but a special way of writing data to the flash memory on the phone. It in no way means the software being flash works on the platform it was copied to.
just because the sound driver works, doesn't mean that anything that actually matters would work.
You could use JIG to force it into download
2.6.35 kernel source for Galaxy S Series phones was released by Samsung. So someone good enough to do it should be able to now. Its just finding a developer good enough to do it.

Although it's technically possible, our phone has entirely different modules and drivers from every other Galaxy S phone. So although yes, there is technically a source for the Galaxy S, there's no source for our specific phone.
Shouldnt matter. The Dream and Sapphire didnt. They were never meant to have GB. Same with some other phones. It needs build for our phones using those sources.
Sent from my Sidekick 4G using XDA Premium App!
The dream and sapphire have a team of the best devs that exist on Android, including Cyan himself. Half of those devs work for HTC or Samsung. Building the general Galaxy s source for our phone wouldn't even boot correctly, as it wouldn't have any drivers to make any of the hardware work.

They do have the best developers. Cyanogen is not one of them anymore. And hasn't been in quite a while. None of them work for any companys like that except for Cyanogen. I didn't say to just build the source. I said to use the source to tweak and build for the sidekick. It can be done. I wish I could do it.

There's a reason that there's no CM7 on the Dream/Sapphire, and that's because CM quit developing for it. there's plenty of them that work for companies. the hardware changes for the sidekick require much more than just minimal tweaks, that would require essentially rewriting drivers to be a part of a new kernel.

There is CM 7.1 for the Dream/Sapphire because me and a few others have built it. Cyanogen only quit developing for it officially. And i didnt say minimal tweaks. I said tweak. I understand its a lot of work thats why i said we need some developers here good enough and willing to do it.

Then go find some. If you're not going to appreciate the devs who are here, who try their best to work on this phone, then do it yourself. If you can't do it, then find other devs, or be grateful for the time we put into our work on this phone, rather than constantly telling us that we are inadequate.

Never once did i say you guys were inadequate. I appreciate your guys work. I was just saying we need a developer that knows how to bring us CM. No reason to get mean. I never said the roms here were bad. We need these roms. A variety is good. Not everyone wants CM. But some do. How did you take anything i said as being directed to you? And if you want to be truthful. You guys are constantly taking shots at revolutions work. So calm down just a bit. We all appreciate the work you do. And if i could bring CM to the Sidekick, trust me, i would. And also trust that i have been trying to find other devs to bring CM to the Sidekick.

My apologies if it was misplaced, I guess I had lumped you in with all the kids who were so used to having CM that they expected it to be done within a month of the phone release, and got super upset when it wasn't done, my bad.
If nothing else, this has made me want to try porting the kernel again, I'm gonna give it another shot, to see if I can come up with another way to do it. We'll see what happens, once again, my bad, I'm sorry.

[Q] I Can Haz Ice Cream?

So its going to be released pretty soon.. what are the odds of the Captivate getting some love?
http://techcrunch.com/2011/10/19/in...axy-nexus-and-ice-cream-sandwich-android-4-0/
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to go with 'Nil.'
The chances are non existent. It just makes business sense for for these updates to take forever. I do understand there are some hardware issues with the updates but in the end the average consumer is going to purchase a new phone or use their upgrade in order to get the latest os. If they keep updating old phones to the newest stuff people would hold onto their phone longer. I mean, ths is the first phone ive ever owned that I could flash custom roms onto. Before this I was locked into the operating system and whatever user interface was on the phone when I purchased it. If I hadnt found this forum or custom roms I would be frustrated by the lack of gingerbread and probably would have used my upgrade by now.
No hope. Most of the features aside from the UI wont work anyways due to not having the hardware (NFC) or lack of CPU and RAM (Camera features).
Just get a nice theme
they have it up and running on fascinates, as of 5AM this morning
We didnt even get official GB and we want ICS.....lol so greedy we people are...
Hell yeah Well rogers got the official gb , but att, com'on, forget about it.
First, do a little more searching. There is alreadya thread open for this topic.
That said, we will never see an official update. Our only hope of seeing it is from a port, courtesy of a device that does get it, or wait on CyagenMod to start on CM9.
Be patient. It'll be ported eventually.
I find it amazing that somone already has it somewhat running on their fascinate. I guess all the great Cappy dev's have jumped ship
Well, i'd be surprised to see ICS for our captivate. Even if cyanogen mod is getting ICS, i probably won't jump because of the superior call quality and slightly (if not better) battery life on captivate ROMs.
I thought there was some sort of court ruling forcing google to push the same version of android to all phones that were capable. I could be talking out of my ass though.

And someone has this starting to run on the Fascinate?? The Captivate is THE phone that seems to get the most love besides the Vibrant for this range of devices.

You know, it's open source.
Any of you asking for it can take a crack at it

Nope, not even in the ballpark. Google has no legal obligation to any phone. What you are thinking of is how Google made the main phone produces agree to try harder to keep the phones up to date (up to one and a half years past release aka 18months). But that did not extend to the carriers...
Else they have to stop using the "Android" name and Google's apps

If you actually go poke around the Fascinate forum there's one guy who claims he has it running but hasn't offered any sort of proof. I think he's just looking for attention, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

At least Sammy is working on this which is good, but the ROM is in very alpha stage...
Is there development of ICS on the 8.9 or 10.1 forums? You would need an ICS kernel of some type to even begin porting, if the other tabs have one that may work for the 7 too with some tweaking. Not sure if a kernel for a phone will even work on a tablet. ROMs I have some experience building, kernels I do not.

I think you'd have to find a ICS kernel for the exynos processor in the 7 not sure if the current Honeycomb kernel would even work. Porting itself is basically taking the system and boot images off of your current device and replacing the ones in the ROM you want to port with them. The easiest ports are from devices with similar hardware. For the more difficult ports getting things like the sdcard to mount and wifi and bluetooth working can be a ***** and takes some expertise. Way beyond what I could do. I know enough to make ROMs using the kitchen and how to insert premade mods into them and also a little about decompiling and modding apks. All the info is pretty much on this site scattered about in different forums. I've been hesitant to even try anything with my Tab as you can easily brick it playing around I'm not familar enough with it to get it back if I even soft bricked it. My phone has an unlocked bootloader and I can recover it from pretty much any disaster. This thing I'm not even sure how it all works yet, samsung devices are totally new to me.

[Q) ICS Port

So it has been announced that the SGS2 line will be updated to ICS Saturday. Will a port be possible to the infuse? I know its different chip sets, and all the other goodies, but will it still be possible?

No go, tried. Aosp only way, and porting is extremely hard because ics uses completely new drivers. If the gingerbread and ics kernels are woven together, it would work. Part of the reason why ICS is hard to come by is it is so different. Btw, be ready to be told no infuse devs will do it, i do not blame them. Sammy loves sacrificing peoples thoughts with money.... like apple does. Seems to gather the most people too lol....
So is once a week the expected occurrence of these type of threads now-a-days??

lb's tool doesnt magically compile a kernel for operating systems the came out after the creation of the tool. that would be cool though.....
what hellraiser is is a normal infuse kernel and a collection of hardware libs pulled directly from an infuse rom to interface with the kernel. it only does gb and was only possible because gingerbread was already available on the rogers infuse.
but an i9000 ics release could potentially help an infuse port but we would need a kernel dev in on it that had some knowledge of the differences between ics and gingerbread. but in reality the biggest thing holding up an aosp version (with some things broken of coarse) is a lack of a dev familiar with aosp ports on galaxy s phones. much of the major hardware is the same as the nexus s, even tha galaxy nexus has the gpu of our phone. the cpu, gpu, audio, ect are not nessessarily a problem. wifi, gps, bluetooth, mhl, and cell connection/data could be problems but wifi and gps work in cm7 so its posible they'd also work in ics.
Oh God here we go again

dman - +1 The update is currently available in Europe and Asia. If it comes to the US, it will likely be months. In the meantime Entropy512 has done a very nice job with CM9 for the Infuse (development thread)

[Q] What should I do with my Atrix2 when it arrives?

Hey guys!, I recently purchased an Atrix2, at the moment I can't decide if I'm more worried or excited (locked bootloader and all), lets just say I'm glad my investment wasn't too big. I'm coming from a Desire Z which was totally and completely hacked way before I bought one (Ended up owning 3 of them, 1 of which didn't have warranty... Ended up being a big investment, long story), so hopefully stock isn't too bad . I have some questions tho and if anyone would be willing to answer I'd be grateful, I've been lurking around here for a few days, if these questions have already been asked I apologize.
When my Atrix2 arrives what should I do with it, root it and install a 2.3.x rom, leave it stock, not root it, install an ICS leak?
How does overclocking work, I'd like to get it to 1.2ghz (GS2 speed), are we able to do that on a locked bootloader?
I know there's been no official word, but do you think the Atrix2 will get JellyBean? When?
How close are we to cracking that bootloader? I've been reading the threads and they're kinda hard to follow, there seems to be massive news on the horizon and everything looking good but then another thread says the complete opposite, how close are we to cracking that sucker open, and in your opinion do you think Moto will unlock the Atrix2 with their web unlock tool that voids the warranty?
I noticed there are 2 hardware versions (ME and MB I think), is everything compatible with each other or do I have to specifically make sure each rom and hack is for my version?
From long term owners how do you like the phone?
From people using ICS how is it? Compared to the AOSP and AOKP roms for other devices, is it..... bearable so to speak ?.
How many CM7/AOSP like mods can we have, I really hate using phones without the widgets in the pulldown status bar.
Coming from a very thick 3.7" 512mb ram 800mhz CPU (Tho capable of running JellyBean fairly well, and being QWERTY to be fair), I think the leap to 4.3" 1gb ram and 1.2ghz dual core will be very nice. The locked bootloader is a big let down but I hope the geniuses that are the Android Dev community come up with some wonderful hack and we're all running CM10 very soon, or at least that the ICS build is good enough and we can get some decent mods.

A) This is entirely your preference.
How does overclocking work, I'd like to get it to 1.2ghz (GS2 speed), are we able to do that on a locked bootloader?
A) See my guides in my signature -for Overclocking
I know there's been no official word, but do you think the Atrix2 will get JellyBean? When?
A) I seriously doubt it. We're one of the last to receive ICS, and still waiting for the official OTA to roll out in the US.
A) The developers have been working on this for almost a year, doesn't look promising at this point, but as soon as some advances are made, you'll read about them here. No, Moto will likely NOT add the A2 to the devices list for unlocking.
I noticed there are 2 hardware versions (ME and MB I think), is everything compatible with each other or do I have to specifically make sure each rom and hack is for my version?
A) The MB865 is intended for use on AT&T within the USA, while the ME865 has a different radio, sound device, WIFI chipset, and a few other hardware differences. It is basically a different device, with "close enough" hardware. I would not try using things from one for the other though, because even the ME865 has 3 different versions, with some small differences in hardware, but you also really need to watch for firmware compatibility.
From long term owners how do you like the phone?
A) My opinion is its decent, we have amazing devs, and they've done so much for this device.
From people using ICS how is it?
A) ICS completely changes the phone, in every way that's good.
Compared to the AOSP and AOKP roms for other devices, is it..... bearable so to speak ?.
A) They are way better than stock Motorubbish ROM.
How many CM7/AOSP like mods can we have, I really hate using phones without the widgets in the pulldown status bar?
A) Most every custom ROM (if not all) available for the A2 has drop down toggles.

There's a couple of ROMs that still keep in tact some or most of the Blur apps and UI, but most are "de-blurred". One of my favorites was Lithium ROM and SCv6, but that's all based on personal preferences. Some are odexed, others de-odexed. Just browse through the development section and look at each of the ROM's threads, they'll all have screenshots, features, and installation instructions. Some are flash able zips, others are CWM backup images. Everything you'll need to know in deciding on a ROM is in the dev section. Nothing wrong with flashing and trying each of them out, until you find one you really like...
Edit: I just looked, and seems like there's about four ROMs that will require the user to be on the leaked ICS version before flashing there's still several great ROMs for GB though!

I believe there's only two ROMs that are built off the leaked ICS version (SCv7 and Lunar Eclipse, though there may be more- I haven't clicked the through the development section much lately) but just wait until you get your phone, and see what version it is.
