SGS4G Drivers Problem?

I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I recently picked up a SGS4G and I immediately wanted to root it. When I plug my phone into the computer, however, the computer doesn't recognize it. The phone recognizes that it is plugged in (green android pops up, gives option of Kies, Media, or Mass Storage), but nothing happens on the computer end. I've downloaded about a million drivers and still no change. I've tried downloading Kies for drivers, but Kies doesn't even recognize a phone is plugged in. I've even downloaded drivers for the original Vibrant, but no luck. It's frustrating because I think that is the only reason my OneClickRoot keeps getting stuck on "waiting for device". Anyone have any ideas?
If you're using a 64 bit system, make sure you get 64 bit drivers.
Got a 64 bit system, got the 64 bit drivers. I even tried the 32 bit drivers just for the hell of it. Nada.
I dunno where you got your drivers, but here's the exact one I used.

I got mine from the "How to Root" thread in the SGS4G Bible thread

I had problems with my drivers before. I downloaded Kies Mini from Samsung's site. I used Kies to install the drivers and haven't had a problem since.

Ditto what Jerry said. They work like a charm.
Well I finally got my computer to recognize that my phone exists, but now I keep getting a message saying that the drivers have malfunctioned. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times now, and no change. I can't get Kies to see my phone, or I'd try to download through it.
I'm at work so I don't have my Kies with me lol but you should be able to install the drivers. You can't do anything with Kies because the drivers aren't installed.
Look at the "options" in Kies to install drivers.
Sorry for the non technical directions. I only used Kies to install the drivers that one time.
Kies doesn't give me any option to install drivers. There isn't even an "options" tab. Even with my phone plugged in, Kies stills asks me to plug in a device. I've tried connecting my USB through Mass Storage, Media Player, and Kies. I've also tried all the above in USB debugging mode. I've even plugged it in in download mode. Still nothing. I keep getting the message that the drivers are malfunctioning.

Try this (sorry if I made this seem novice-like, but I just want to try and be clear):
Open a command prompt
type this, followed by Enter: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
type this, followed by Enter: devmgmt
Once Device Manager opens, click View on the menu bar and select Show Hidden Devices
Expand both "Modems" & Universal Serial Bus controllers" & uninstall anything that has Samsung Android USB Composite Device, Samsung USB Composite Device, Samsung Mobile Device, Samsung Mobile Modem, etc.
Once the devices are gone, maybe reboot (probably not necessary, but why not?) and try the USB driver install again.

Ya, I didn't think there was an actual Options tab that is why I put options in quotes. I remember hitting install drivers when I installed mine months ago. It was very easy.
It sounds like you need the kind of help Steven is giving.
When you do get your computer to recognize your device I highly recommend installing the drivers through Kies. After many many flashes the have never let me down.
I wish I could be of more help. I've seen your problem in here before and our Helpful Members always get it figured out.
Best of luck!

Try USB Debugging
Oddly enough try only using the same USB port you originally installed the drivers on. I have noticed with windows 7, it tries to install the drivers when you change USB Ports, then again it should do this if they are on a separate controller.
As stated above, use USB debugging.
Hopefully we'll get you an answer that works.

Well, I tried Stephen's method, but still got nothing. I keep getting the error message. I just don't understand why the phone will recognize that it's plugged in, the computer will recognize that SOMETHING is plugged in, but it won't recognize WHAT.

Bummer, I Really hoped that would work. When you go into Add/Remove Programs does it show that the USB drivers are listed? If so, remove them there and re-try the installation.

I've tried that too, multiple times
I tried something different this time. In device manager, under USB Controllers, instead of deleting all the Samsung stuff, I deleted EVERYTHING (based on an idea I found on a Windows 7 help page dealing with error code 43). When I plugged my phone in, every one of the items I uninstalled reinstalled, except for "Unknown Device" (I'm assuming that's my phone), which came up failed. I'm not sure if this helps at all with diagnosing the situation, but I thought I'd throw it out there...
Did you retry Stephens suggestions after uninstalling everything?

Yep. No dice.

I need help, badly.

so, my phone is bricked, I bought a jig since I couldn't access download mode. The jig works perfectly, but no matter what cord, USB port or computer or operating system I still can't get the phone recognized. I always get "USB device not recognized, it may have malfunctioned...etc." I thought it was the drivers and etc, but my friends Galaxy S works in download mode and gets recognized...I thought it might be the USB port, but the jig works everytime and the charger turns the phone on when plugged in.
So I'm out of options, the unbrickable mod is just not in my skill set, what else can I possibly do?
I know you said it was coming up as USB device not recognized...buy did you run Odin and see if it was there?
Yes, neither hemidall or odin detect it.

I can't tell if you tried this, but when I was flashing with the Captivate and Odin, I always re-installed the drivers. Everytime. I also had better luck running Odin as Administrator. Again, couldn't tell from OP if you did all that, so hope I'm not preaching to the choir

3.put battery inside..
4.then while holding the 2 vol keys plug the usb cable in the phone and to the pc..

Have you tried just putting cable in PC then in reg mode hook to phone...let it find and recognize. Then unhook from phone. then put in d/l mode then hook to computer....then open odin.....
EDIT: the cable that comes with the phone is really not such a good cable...i went out and bought a nice thick one..just casue the sammy one works for charging and USB mass storage doesn't mean it will for ODIN...I ran into that with my Captivate and Infuse...I went out and got a nice thick 25$ cable...no issues...also try a diff port...>?
I swear the op never gets read. the phone is bricked, I can't get past the Samsung screen, I have stock 3e recovery, and the only way to get to download mode is the jig. I have tried kies mini and the exe for drivers but none of the multiple computers ive tried recognize the phone, I have tried several different cords as well, I think my only option is Jtag.

No that's not your only option..... If the phone turns on at all ths sts great, diagnosing kies fire the drivers is crucial first off, then use the jig to get into dl then hook up to computer and open heimdall one click back to stock by Ulster, if heimdall still doesn't recognize it, unplug micro USB from phone and plug back in, again the RIGHT drivers for windows or Mac are CRUCIAL! Just went through a huge ordeal with my infuse thinking it was gonna be dead, if you can get to Samsung letters its not bricked, bricked is if it does nothing....read my last post.

[Q] USB Device not recognized?

Okay so all of a sudden my phone wants to act stupid and piss me off for the night, so... after an hour of research I cant find a solution to my problem. When I plug my phone into my PC it says "USB Device Not Recognized" and not even ODIN shows anything when in download mode. The pulldown bar doesn't show any option to change between PTP or MTP. I did a complete wipe and reflashed my rom with no third party tweaks installed, still no luck. I unchecked USB Debugging and that didnt help. I tried dialing *#7284# but that didnt do anything and USB options did pop up.
I've tried uninstalling my drivers and reinstalling them but it did nothing as my PC doesnt recognize the device at all. I tried a different USB cord and plugged it into different USB ports but STILL nothing. Does anyone have a REAL, working solution to this problem. I just need to put some music in my phone...
Bump

Usually this is a sign of a bad cable or a bad USB port. But you said you eliminated these so idk what to tell you. Maybe the port on your phone is malfunctioning. Can you test on another computer?

Same problem
I'm searching for same answer. I rooted via Casual and all was well until I tried to back up my ROM via CWM then the dreaded yellow triangle appeared and I can't get Odin to recognize my Verizon SIII - used version 1.85 to 3.07. Downloaded Samsung website USB drivers. My computer had no problem with phone popping up before the yellow triangle. Any answers in other forums?

[Q] No ROM, can't adb sideload!

So I wiped my phone, went to flash the unofficial kitkat CM rom, and found out I had the wrong recovery version. No biggie, I thought, I'll just reflash my backup ROM. Well, it wasn't where I left it, so now I'm stuck without a ROM to flash. That was okay, though, I could just push one via adb. Then my computer gave me the "USB device not recognized" thing, and so I've tried reinstalling drivers, cleaning the registry, rebooting many times, and all to no avail. I'm lost! Wise ones of XDA, what can I do?
Bump. I really could use some help, I use my phone for work and school and it's a paperweight in it's current state.
I'm guessing you have no access to an sdcard? Looks like you need to use Odin to go back to stock then reroot and unlock. Try uninstalling the drivers then boot your S3 into download mode (hold volume down, home, and power) follow the on-screen prompt, then plug your S3 into the computer to force install new drivers. Now, unplug and pull the battery and try flashing stock, and root/unlock. Try another port, keep the computer plugged into the wall, and also make sure you're using the Samsung USB cable.

No sd card. My computer shows the same "USB device not recognized" message while the phone is in either download mode or recovery, and while using my samsung usb cable and a new one I bought yesterday evening. I've deleted every driver for it, tried every port, and it's the same thing every time. EXCEPT, for some reason, when I plug it into my USB 3.0 ports, it shows up in device manager under "other devices- unknown device", but when it's plugged into my USB 2.0 port, it shows up under "USB controllers- unknown USB device (invalid device descriptor)".

If its not connecting to your main computer, try another computer. Honestly though, I think you need to purchase a cheap sdcard (format it to Fat32) and put a rom on there. Cuz you can still access download mode and also recovery correct? Maybe by then, there will be a few more replies or some idea that will get you in the right direction.

I just have my laptop. I've bought an sd card now, but I don't have a reader. When I fix this I'll put a backup on there I think I'm just going to reinstall windows and get a fresh start. Then maybe I'll be able to ADB sideload a rom.
I had similar problem
After I screwed up my device, this was the way I got the right recovery installed in order to flash 4.4
I cant post links in posts yet, I'll pm you the link.
