[Q] Thinking of buying HTC desire S - HTC Desire S

guys i'm to get my new phone probably htc desire s.
But i have a few question from you guys that:
1.Is 768 MB of RAM is enough for you?
2. is there any lag when playing games or by apps?
3. is it future proof?

@1. yes think so. the new sensation xe got the same amount of ram
@2. did not notice any bad lag yet but havent try anything out there and ive just used the branded stock rom
@3. compared to the sensation xe: it just got a singlecore cpu with 1ghz compared to a dualcore with 1,5ghz and a adreno 205 as gpu vs a adreno 220 at the sensation xe. since im no geek i cant tell whether its future proof or not, but the desire s is not that old, prolly up to one year now. imo youre quite good with it atleast i am
hope this helps

Its an adreno 205 and this phone is not futureproof. I wouldn't consider any phone to be futureproof. But I think 768mb ram is enough and games are pretty smooth

1. Yes, I always have about 100MB free with about 150 installed apps and a lot of widgets.
2. Only the really heavy 3D ones (like some games from gameloft); 2D games should be fine. (Look for reviews of the Adreno 205 GPU). Apps generally never lag on this phone.
3. A little. 1GHz is fast, but most new phones have dual core and higher clock rates. Also, I'm not sure if there will be an official Android 4.0 release from HTC, but if you are willing to install custom ROM's that shouldn't be a problem.

Our Desire S has an Adreno 205 and not the slower 200. However, the 205 still isn't all that fast.

oh yeh my fault. the side where i checked it got it wrong

-1: its enough! depending on the rom the launcher works fast and smooth.
-2: i noticed a few lags when playing hd games! but only at the first minutes or when you are downloading other apps in the background.
-3: if we speak of smartphones or electronical devices in general, one can never speak of future proofness. i installed ics from virtous. as a future android version it runs smooth, too.
pls excuse my bad english : )
i hope you get what i wanted to say.

1. It has proved to be plenty of RAM for me. A sign it was not enough would be the Sense launcher re-loading occasionally after exiting a memory-intensive app. Even on a stock ROM this didn’t happen.
2. Have not experienced any lag on the games I play. OK they are not generally the 3D type, and I have not tried GTA3, but Speedx3D runs smooth and that is quite a fast 3D game. Google Navigation, youtube, Netflix, 720p video recording and playback, all run smoothly.
3. No phone is future proof. You’d need to be able to upgrade hardware like a PC for that. Hell these days even PC’s are out-of-date before the cooling fan has had chance to get dusty. What is important is that even after nearly a year of this phone’s availability, development for the DS on XDA is actually speeding up! Not slowing down at all! Seems to be a new ROM each week to try out. There should already be enough for you to play with for your time with this phone. It’s getting some serious love from the ICS devs too, something I’m sure HTC had no intention of officially giving us.
I know several people with dual-core phones, and aside from showing off in benchmark tests, I have yet to meet someone who actually really benefits from having that extra core or can show me something useful that it provides. The only benefit I can think of is improved battery life (the SGS II battery life is excellent), but that is more down to improved chip architecture (plus a bigger battery) not extra processing power.
Personally I also don’t like the 4.7 inch screens as I only have small girl-like hands which includes a 2.5 inch thumb! The DS screen size is perfect for me. The SGS II is painful and frequently see people in my office needing two hands to operate it! Also the build quality on the DS (in my opinion) makes the SGS II look like it came out of a Kinder Surprise.
I have been contemplating what to upgrade to in the summer, and even though MWC has yet to announce all the contenders, even the available ones don’t appeal. They all tout a screen too large to be comfortable, and processing power I simply don’t need. I think I’ll be sticking with my DS until someone puts a phone out there that focuses on battery life improvements and decent camera optics instead of getting blinkered by cramming more and more processing power in. It’s the best phone I’ve ever had and this is the best section on XDA that I have experienced.
Hope I’ve helped.

i thing the screen size is the only thing to conciser. in fact is a matter of taste.
otherwise there is no speed or smoothness problem at all. i personally have been using this phone for almost a year now with no complains at all.
plus with the virtuous quattro running so smooth at that stage i cant imagine how good it will be.

I love you for this post man!! (all platonic, of course )
This was an amazing insight into our device, and phones in general...what did me in was your closing sentence...
" It’s the best phone I’ve ever had and this is the best section on XDA that I have experienced. " - I have to say you echo my thoughts verbatim! Was looking for an upgrade too, and had almost decided to jump in for the Galaxy Note (I know it's not exactly a phone - that was kinda the point, but i digress...) but i just can't come to terms with having to give up this phone.
And do you know what the primary cause for that is? It's this community and all of you guys. I wouldn't be able to give it all up and move away...I know some of you so well, it's almost like family...or old school friends (they know who they are). Hell, i miss zeekiz since he's moved off to the Galaxy Nexus !
I love this phone and i love this community, and no Quad core is going to make me sell this phone. I will always keep this device...if only to stay on these pages.....

Thank you enigmaamit! Yes I'll also feel sad when the day comes to move to another device. I may even break with my tradition of selling my old phone on eBay, and keep the DS so I can still test for people, and pop back to say hi every now and then. That'll be months away though.

But seriously, I really hope that HTC haven't forgot about Desire line. Same form factor, dual core (make it quad) anyone?
Oh yeah... I am keeping mine as well. Everyone needs a trusty backup phone.

Same form factor and with half an inch bigger display squeezed in, what about that?

Naaah... My thumb is too short for additional 1/2 inch.

I read something earlier about a forthcoming phone that's called (at the moment) the HTC primo, dual core, 3.7" screen but only 512mb ram,ics sense 4.0. It was on the stufftv website I think. Is this the replacement for the desire s?

Hello Happy Helpful People
I'm currently still using the original HTC Desire and I think it's time for me to retire it. It still works great but have been running low on memory for last 6 months and it's got the to point where I use all my apps and don't want to delete anymore.
Been researching around and considered the Sensation and Galaxy s2 but having had a play on both today they're too big for my tiny hands. So the research continues and I think I may have found my next phone in the form of the DS! I do have a question though - is there actually 1.1gb of space for apps or is less than that after taking into account the memory needed for UI/processor? Sorry I don't know that much about the techy side of things so excuse my lack of knowledge in my quest of finding my next phone I've also been making notes of new apps I can download!
I know this phone is now almost a year old and not that much of a leap from the Desire but that's also part of its charm. Plus the pricing is about right.
Thanks for your help

yeah i think we get the full 1.1 gb ,not sure though
the extra 256mb helps
the adreno 205 is a huge improvement from the adreno 200(especially after the new drivers in ICS)
but having said that there will be better dualcore phones at a similar price point soon

Well if you can wait until the end of month, you might wanna see what HTC has in store this year.
There's the rumoured HTC Primo (3.7" WVGA) which i think is somewhat the Desire S successor with less RAM.
And then there's the HTC Ville (4.3" qHD) & Edge (4.7" HD).
But if you're getting it now, you can get it at a much cheaper price than we got when it came out last year.

What is the best phone to buy NOW or till the end of YEAR??

Hello all.
I what to buy a new phone, and I want the best. But I don't know what to chose and need some help.
I have one HD2 (Super phone for me) and I always used Windows Mobile, but recently I try'd Android on my HD2 and I must say I'm realy impressed with it.
But now comes Windows Phone 7, and for what I read, i'm not impressed at all with it, maybe in 1 year from now Windows / becames usable for me (Flashalolic).
So my question is what is the best phone I can buy now or in the next 1 or 2 month?
Thanks for any help.
if you already have hd2 there is no reason to change phones. for me its the best. you can benefit fromwm world and from android world... if you wamt a good querty slider phone you could go for dezire Z or milestone 2 both are premium phones. desite z only has 800mhz snapdragon but its the 2nd generation of snapdragons. it consumes alot less energy and still is fast. but since your asking me shure its 1 year since hd2 came out. but its still an amazing phone. wouldnt swith it for any other phone. then again i only have it for a week
You are right, HD2 is one amazing phone and I only switch for another one that is as good as my HD2.
It seems that since the release of HD2, there is no other "super phone" around to beet the HD2 as "The Best One of all time"
hardware wise, the desire HD. new second gen snapdragon chipset + 768mb ram makes it just a killer. then it has srs sound and dolby mobile and all this.. its the ultimate phone right now i think.
but its new, and the community is still not that large as the one of the hd2. and community is, what a phone makes a super phone.
in the end, the hd2 IS the best phone till now, and will be till phone manufacturers finally realize that they need to go a step further with the hardware.
im not upgrading to a phone wich got almost the same hardware as my hd2...
You are absolutly right, and the Desire HD is one excelent phone right now, but I think that it's not mutch better that the HD2. It has better hardware and a new OS, but still is almoust one HD2 with little upgrades.
As stated many times before, there is no such "best phone"
What is best to me may not be for you.
Said that I agree with the comments above regarding Leo, same or even better specs than new devices and the chance to boot WM/Android and soon WP7
I won´t really make an upgrade till something really amazing comes up...
to me the samsung fascinate is the best right now, it got flash and an awesome video capturing capability, while the G2 is good, but their video taking capability need some serious fine tuning.
I'm talking more in terms of Hardware, and not the OS.
Since the HD2, there is no phone much better then the HD2 in terms of hardware.
That is what I want, I phone better then the HD2 in Harware.

the samsung galaxy S got a better processor.
the DHD got much more RAM, and a better processor/chipset too.
the QSD8255 chipset of the DHD is almost as twice as good as the QSD8250 from our hd2... so hardware side, the DHD is the absolutely best phone right now.
as much as i know, the graphic performance is a bit better on the humminbird processor of the galaxy S... but its not that much (BTW, the hummingbird is the same processor as the A4 in apples iPhone 4 and iPad)
like i said, if u want the best hardware, go for the DHD, if u want the most open (with still awsome hardware) device, get the HD2.

[Q] Is 768mb RAM ok or worrysome??

Hello. Im considering picking up a Sensation 4G, but the only thing im worried about is the amount of RAM available compared to its closest competitors. The SGS2, Atrix and EVO 3D which is its almost twin brother and it has 1gb RAM as opposed to the S4G. Is this enough to easily handle day to day use?? Because from what i read, it gets around 158mb free on a fresh boot as oposed to its compatitors which may get 300+ to handle the load
The QHD and Sense 3.0 are plenty reasons IMO to have at least 1gb RAM to handle it and im a bit bummed to hear that the mytouch 4g has the same amount and nowhere as near as much workload to handle.
I may be exaggerating when i say this, but i just got a HTC Mogul flashback lol
Am i crazy for being a bit concerned as if i have nothing to worry about, or does anyone feel the same way??
Sorry to ramble so much
Cheers
i've had the sensation for 5 days now, and from all indications, it runs extremely fast and flawless. but the whole 768MB ram is a serious letdown for me. i'm still contemplating whether i should keep it or return it. i love the device, and i think in all honesty the ram shouldnt be an issue at all. however, i have seen where if you open the browser, then some other apps, then go back to the browser, it reloads the page, meaning it shut the browser down to reclaim memory. thus the reloading takes a lil time to fetch it again from the network. a lilttle annoying.
On a fresh boot with all of my apps installed it shows over 275mg of memory available. I think it's fine.

really?? hmmm i asked Aaron from phonedog . com and he told me about 160. i might feel a lot better if 275 seems to be closer to the actual number since i bet once the bootloader is unlocked, it will be much better. ill check it out tomorrow and see. Any clue on why people say that the evo 3d is noticibly faster??? my first guess would be the ram unless im missing something
ps: are you using Sense launcher or 3rd party?? thanx

I'm using Sense. If a picture will make you feel better I can take one. I have all of the animations turned off along with the animated weather and it runs very smooth. I also don't fill up 7 pages worth of widgets so that could be another contributing factor.
For everyday tasks I'm not worried at all. However I noticed that Dungeon Defenders uses about 122mb of ram and it caused the entire phone to crash because all the ram got depleted. How are you gonna tell me that a freaking smartphone game needs that much ram?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
My sensation displays different values for available RAM in different places. Right now, the quick settings menu is displaying only 118mb free which sounds bad. However, the running applications tab in the settings menu displays 310 MB RAM available (even with xda app running in the background while I type this post). There is probably some caching of the file system going on which is released to running applications on demand (similarly to how Windows Vista and 7 fill all available memory with file system caching).
I'm really not too concerned with the 768 MB of RAM on sensation, I think it is adequate to future-proof the phone for a couple of years.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
I have come from the Desire HD and the improvement is worth the switch, however i am concearned the the availible RAM shown in the task manager is only 558mb not 768mb.
Is anybody else showing this?
Unless im missing something.................. Nobody else seems to be talking about this differance in RAM.
Having said that i am VERY happy with its performance......
I don't know what the Task Manager shows, i have a feeling it's not correct.
On my Sensation i always have over 300MB free (in Settings menu).
I also had DHD before, i did compare them and i didn't see much difference in memory usage with same apps installed on both phones.
About not all 768mb shown in memory, this is because some of it is reserved for GPU, this is normal.

Shouldn't be needed with a powerhouse like this.
Point is that stuff isn't optimized, which is partly android's fault too.
But if the evo can have 1g, why not the sensation...
Give root + sense with lockscreen and clock only.

Not androids, HTCs fault. Mind you as someone already said, android is not optimized for 2x core, hopefully 2.4 update will be. (hopefully we will get it)

That's what I heard as well. It has a graphics chip swell so but not sure if that's being used. I read that Its taking out reserve memory so it's not using all 350mb but that's what I've read.
Once we get a build that has sense stripped we will be fine.
I don't believe RAM will affect performance much if at all.. the only concern is the phone shutting down essential background applications.
There's already a thread about people reporting Sense itself restarting quite often.
If HTC at least gave us similar RAM of competition people wont blame them for this dumb spec choice.

On a fresh boot you will get lots of ram but soon as things start kicking in you will end up with around 150 mark free which is a slight worry and soon as you run program or install things that soon goes down, I have had mine under 100 so far.
I was watching a review of the Evo 3D and forgetting the 3d side of it the phone is pretty much a Sensation but I notice they have upped that too 1gb of ram and that phone is smooth as butter, sense is super smooth unlike the Sensation so I have been thinking did the make a mistake with the amount of ram on this and put it right on the Evo.
I have until next friday to decide if I want to keep this and I think the lack of ram could be the deal breaker for me as I have a GS2 also and I tend to use Launcher pro on that, the GS2 makes this thing look laggy and slow but i do like the Sensation.
HTC need to optimize Sense 3.0........ it's a hog.
it's been showing around 130-150 mb consistently with everything killed.
but so far pretty smooth even with multiple apps open.
I do wish they had put in 1gb... who knows what hoggish apps are coming out in the future.
but considering LG 2x and Xperia Play both only have 512mb and they are more or less made for gaming, I guess 768 is ok, though both of them don't have hog Sense 3.0 running.
It certainly does suck it up Sense, on the GS2 I am using 398 of 837mb available with lots of background things running and when I free the memory I am using 244 of 837, like sense some of the ram is taken up with the gpu I guess.
If they had put that extra in to make 1gb total and around 837 I guess like the GS2 would be available we would be fine on the ram front.

You can thank all of that pre-installed bloatware. I can't wait until we get root so I can delete it all.
I'm just hoping 768 MB will be enough to run Ice Cream Sandwich when it's released.

[Q] Best phone period

Im looking into picking a new phone, but like most of us I have a hard time deciding whats better to get after having the phone I thought was the greatest. So I Want to see what phone to get next, or what devices to consider, as well see what features to look for next, I was just happy when the Droid inc (1GHz processing power, 8MP Cam, and 512 MBs RAM) was announced and I still am when I look at and think about it. SO my question to the entire Community, What is the best phone, OS, ROM, Features, and why?
Phone EX: Nexus one, HTC EVO, HTC Touch Pro, LG Quantum
Custom built EX: HTC HD2 Running Windows phone 7,
Motorola Droid Running (Custom ROM or Stock)
or even a concept phone; 10MP Cam, Android 2.2, dual core, qwerty keyboard, etc.
Current:
PhoneInc, ROM:Incredible RMX 2
Tablet:Asus Transformer, ROM:Revolver
the only 2 phones worth considering are:
SGS2
Nexus 3
or wait another months for the next best phones to come out, but by then you can wait another 3 months, and then even better phones are around the corner
i made a spec sheet for iOS/Android/Windows phones in my sig.
please feel free to check it out and contribute if you can.
thanks.
hopefully this will help you in getting the right device this holiday season.

Incidentally, to make it easier for people (till you get enough posts to post links), just change the http to hxxp. That seems like a commonly accepted way of posting links that aren't links (and it's easier for people to correct in their address bar!)
Nexus 3 is what I'm waiting for.. .iphone 5 is sounding real sexy too at the moment. Seems like it will be the thinnest phone once it releases.on top of its sexy teardrop all aluminum design reminiscent of the MacBook air from what I've read (all speculations)Too bad ios sucks!
Sticking to android and probably give wp7 a try once better phones are out.

As much as I dislike HTC, the HTC titan is in a league of it's own as far as phones go. With processing power, it's not the absolute best. The thing is though, that only matters on an OS like android where it will only run remotely decent even with a top-end processor. Aside from that it sports a massive screen, ffc for video chat, solid body, up to 32 gigs internal, and most importantly windows phone 7. I'm sorry, but I don't buy high-end hardware to put an OS on it that was and is intended for crap hardware. My OS needs to keep up with me. Can I customize my phone to the point that it is unstable, slow, but reflects me? No. I can add numerous tiles with all kinds of pictures on a dynamic UI which totally beats a background image for me. Android is great if customization is your ONLY concern, for quality, speed, social integration, gaming, business, media, and pretty much anything else you'd be ripping yourself off if you went any way but the windows phone 7 way.
iphone5,next google phone
I honestly think that the Samsung Galaxy S II is the best phone out there, befor i bought it i read tons of comparisons and articles
Nexus prime with ics !!!!!!
Nexus Prime is supposed to be coming out in the next 2 weeks WITH ICS!!!!
I would personally want the MIUI phone / M1 but I doubt it will make it out of China.

Whats the MIUI phone? the phone I used to want (though probably outdated now) was called the first else phone, and it was only sold in the middle east, but everyone seems to be on samsung now, I just cant be excited about that, esp since everything I would buy from them usually looks alot better than it preforms. The two phones that top my list now thou would be the Sensation XE, and the Rhyme(almost to the point where the color doesn't even matter)
But I have heard alot of good about the nexus prime. I just feel like if I actually knew how how to program it would be of that much more use to me.

Stay away from WM7 on an HD2 if you want the card slot to survive. It will kill the card slot. Mine, I can run WM7, but if I try to flash Android or other ROMs, the card slot won't work. WM7 runs from the card in the slot excessively and wears it out. WM7 just isn't worth it.
Imho I have used the Samsung epic and also the EVO 4g (not the 3d) and have noticed that the EVO is by far the best one out of the two... Also the most customizable in the sense if being able to switch from sense 3.0 to 3.5 and to asop...

well the only exception to your analogy is the sgs 2 or a totally stock/cyano/miui rom, according to my experience from my hd2 and captivate days. If it's sense, you can expect it to lagg, even when you have nothing on your homescreen.
That aside, I have to agree, WP7 is a great piece of work. Micro created a smooth, simple UI/OS that competes with apple in all those terms and maybe even better in some aspects. What Micro is "copying" from Apple is making phones that run on the "same specs". And the advantage to that is any app placed on the market will be able to run on all WP7 phones, unlike some android apps, which will work on a certain phone but not another.
What i don't like however is that really, all of them look the same (UI/appearance). It makes me feel like i don't have anything special. Which is the same with an iPhone(a stock one atleast). Atleast with android I can customize my status/notificaton bar, change my launcher layout/appearance, change certain effects e.g. overscroll glow to bouncy, change my lockscreen, change my icons, change my settings/menu appearance, which overall means i can have a phone that's different than the next or atleast appears different. (note also the lagg that you state coming from all this customization was atleast non apparent to me in my hd2 days, and for me now in my sgs 2)
Now I may be wrong about WP7 as i haven't even checked on the hacks/customization available since my HD2 days running WP7.

I don't think so, you obviously have not done a genuine unbiased eval.

[Q] Looking for a new phone

I'm looking to buy a new phone, and I'm going to try the Android road once again. My main problem with Android phones has been usability, mostly small glitches, lag, unresponsiveness and other various bugs that annoy me when all I want to do is a complete a simple task. The problem with my current HTC wildfire is that I'm simply sick to death about mostly lag and interface issues, and I'm running a pretty average stock ROM, I forget which one since I kinda stuck with one that I was somewhat happy with and gave up with reflashing.
I've tried plenty of other ROMS and they all tend to be the same in one way or another when it comes to issues like this. I've even got it overclocked to 710mhz, and still facing crappy issues, and pretty big drain in the battery. I just really feel I shouldn't have to go through all of that to get decent usability.
Hell I think the Branded stock HTC ROM out preformed most of the cooked ones, my only problem with it was that was branded everywhere with useless shortcuts and icons.
So I'm looking for something fairly high end, with a physical qwerty keyboard, a 3.5mm jack, and overall simply put, good performance for general use and the odd emulator here and there. I was thinking the HTC desire Z, but since it's going at about $300-$350 I think it might be another mistake, my Wildfire was about that much and after a few months it was a regretful buy.
I really don't want to buy another phone that will let me down, my last three phones were a HTC Touch Diamond which cost a fortune, a Nokia E63 (Because I was that stick of the touch diamond), and my current HTC Wildfire, the E63 was probably the best buy out of all of them, and it was the cheapest.
So please guys, help me find a decent phone, I really don't want to have to fork out the ridiculous amount of money for an iPhone 4 or go back to the E series Nokia phones.
I know it seems a little lazy for me to be asking a forum such a question, this is something I usually research and review, but that has failed me which is why I really want some advice from users themselves, ones that have possibly suffered from the same sort of issues. Reviews are one thing, but daily long term users are another. I remember thinking the Wildfire was good from the reviews, little did I know.

Kind of late for the sgs 2 but I still recommend it. I have not experienced any lag, and I will proudly say it is the most fluid and smooth phone android has to offer. It has software which is unmatched in terms of efficiency and maintainability and security. Moreover it is more or less equal to sense in terms of functionality.
That's sort of in the right track, but as mentioned, I'm looking for something with a physical QWERY keyboard.
I'm thinking maybe the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro, anyone got any kind of negative feedback on that?
If you want a qwerty keyboard, you can have a look at the HTC Desire Z. They are available in The Netherlands here for 319,- euros. I don't know if they are sold in your area though...
How do you like HTC Chacha?
qwerty, android and low price are included
I have the Desire Z and i love my phone its really great, and for me the keyboard was the main reason to buy the phone and after one year with the phone i can certainly say that the phone has much more then the keyboard and u can find many roms for it here in xda...
BUT i want also mention that the phone is nowaday i little bit outdated, with its 800mhz single core prossesor(ok u can takt it up to 2ghz,so its for me never a problem of speed with 1-1,3ghz and the right rom u have more then enough speed, dats my personal few),
The BIG MINUS for me are the 512Mb ram, which u will get to know sometimes when u are useing bigger roms (like sense 3.0,for sure there are ways to "extend RAM" and super roms like the Virtous Unity where almost everything works smooth), but these 512mb ram and the Android together making it sometimes difficult for me, it causes lags and all,(today i have cm7 on it and still now no probs, only the market app is bit slow but that has nothing to do with the phone i think)
....to be honest i never really saw an android headset without any small lag...
and as Kailkti above said, (even if i am not a big samsung and his plastic phone fan) i would also say buy the the SGS2 its really very fast and almost lag and problem free ...as i know....

You are Welcome ...as said i love my desire Z and i saw dat u are thinking about buying... so i wanted to tell u that the phone is great but has also his minus... and u should know and think about what u want and need...every phone has his + and - ...as i bought my phone i had the choice between the desire z and the galaxy S and i took the desire z and I am happy about it...i wanted a phone with qwertz keyboard, because i am writing much and i dont like TS writing and now there are many other better much more powerfull devices, but only less alternatives to the desire z...( for me personally there i no alternative because i like sense very much an there is no other device with qwertz keyboard from htc, ok the Salsa but thats an other league)...
.)so u have to decide if u want power and lag/bugless phone then galaxyS2 is ...
.)physical keyboard and a middle class phonewith good manufacturing, wich is not lagfree desire z
.)or u should look at motorola(but dont know how the phones really are, only read about one,..two days or so ago... with dulcore and keyboard and all)
so wish u all a nice day ;D
Galaxy Nexus ALL THE WAY!!!!!!! Reasons:
1) Will be smoothest and most stable
2) Will have dev support from google for a LONG TIME
3) Due to dev support, wont be obsolete for a LONG TIME
4) Runs pure android
Personal Experience:
I own a nexus one. I am running gingerbread with little to no lag most of the time. This phone is two years old and I still get OTA updates. I am planning on getting a galaxy nexus. Even though its 2 years old, I still love it, wouldnt trade it for an iphone ever.
Extra Information:
Galaxy nexus runs PURE STOCK, making it much more stable and much less laggy. Almost no reason to spend time rooting and flashing ROMS if you into that. Also, with a 1.2 ghz dual core processor, there's not much room for lag. Last point, ICS was designed to be more stable and smooth than any other android build EVER, so if you want the smoothest android phone possible, the galaxy nexus is the way to go.
Extra Goodies:
First phone to run ICS. Once again, ICS was designed for this phone!!!!!! Get all the goodies from ICS. The highest resolution android screen EVER and its 4.65" Super AMOLED. And LTE and HSPA+ support. So if you are on verizon, sprint, tmobile, or att you can get it.

Thanks for the detailed response Matt, but unfortunately like I mentioned I want a physical QWERTY keyboard, it's a must.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro has a qwerty. The new xperia models are really great once the bloatware is gone and you get a new launcher. I have the Play, and it's gone way above my expectations for a single core model.
Having a perfected single core is better than a still-developing dual.
Edit: didn't see the part where you mention that model. Derp.

Thanks mate, also a helpful answer. I think I might choose the Xperia Pro after all, it's got a slightly faster processor than the Desire Z, and I've been extremely happy with Sony Ericsson phones in the past (w850i, **** yeah). I was likely going to remove Timescape anyway, I'll give it a whirl for a few days, but I think I'll prefer another launcher in the end.
I'm using go launcher ex. The customizations and ability to backup settings is great. Whenever I flash a ROM, I just restore the backup and the custom stuff is already done.
I tried the Desire Z when picking out phones. The landscape mode only worked when the qwerty was open, and the screen didn't seem very sharp.. I'm glad I waited an extra few months to get my phone because I would have been stuck with a Samsung, and missed out on the xperia play gamepad. The xplay literally popped out of nowhere in my country. I had no idea it was coming out beforehand.
My advice: look around mobile blog/review sites for previews/announces of upcoming models. You never know, a couple months from now something better suited to you might be released.

[Q] All-Around (BEST) Phone

hey everyone. i currently am using the HD2 and love it. somehow, as more and more hardware keeps rolling out i keep thinking how i want something new. then i weigh pros and cons and cant seem to justify needing to spend $XXX.XX amount of dollars on new hardware that just simply isnt THAT much better or any more user friendly (from the modding perspective)
so with that said i want to ask EVERYONE here ...
based on these factors (in your opinions) what is the best phone
1.) Stock OS
2.) Hardware Specs
3.) Developer Community (support)
4.) Ease of Developing (modding/flashing/etc)
5.) General Pros and Cons to the model your selling me on
as i said i use an HD2 and with 1g CPU and 1/2g ram about the only real advantage im seeing (personally) is a LITTLE beefier CPU, RAM, and another camera. i can't see the point of having a 2.2 quad core super computer in my pocket. i mean guys lets be honest the specs of the almost 3 year old HD2 makes my first Quake Rocket Arena 3 machine look like a calculator ... right???
anyway any input would be appreciated. thanks and cheers always all! PEACE!!!
I would say the HTC sensation with proper mods is a bread winner.
