yeah , sorry for my bad english too , i don't understand your 3rd question
1. i didn't paly Dead Space , so i don't know , but i do have some 3D games which is running fine.
2. i think so , for year 2012 you can count on it , at least there will be some final stable ROM and Kernel left. , anyway , phones are upgrading very fast ...
3. don't understand it...

the nexus s is a good buy, especially with some carriers offering it for free, so if you are getting it subsidized it's likely the best deal for the dollar. It still has at least another good year of developer support for it as well, maybe a little longer. However if you are buying unsubsidized I'd look at the galaxy nexus or even the galaxy note instead.

The nexus is still a solid phone to have, I wouldn't use my upgrade on it, though, of course

I recently purchased my i9023 in December 2011. I had a HTC Desire, this is a good phone but only has 384MB of RAM for the OS, cache and Apps.
The Nexus S's CPU isn't much faster but it has 512MB for the OS, 512MB for cache, 1MB for Apps, and 14MB of 'sdcard' storage onboard. This will enable the Nexus S to run future upgrades for quite a long time as devs will keep supporting it!
Also even a rooted pure google phone will always get official updates since devs will jump on it!

[Q] Android phone for devlopement

Hi,
I am at point where I would be buying a new mobile phone. I don't have budget problem, but I am looking from the point where I'll be able to use my phone as development device.
I have shortlisted some options:
Nexus S: This seems to me an idle device for development. It also has NFC. You have early access to the android flavors. But with dual core processor phone in the market, I not sure if this a good choice.
Samsung Galaxy s 2: The phone is expensive, but has many feature(except for NFC ). Do you think this can be a good device considering future versions of android might be out by November-December(speculating)
Wait for another device: Wait for a device. But then everything can't be obtained in a single device. How long will I wait?
HTC Sensation: Not much info about it.
Any other device
I seem to prefer device with NFC and dual core(may be because it a future ready).
Really confused. Just looking for a device that can be used for development on current and future flavors of Android.
Also I have read about rooting a device. Not sure if this is a proper question, but if someone roots a device can the person explore the full capabilities of the device(provided the rooting is proper).
I prefer not to wait for another device and I am confused between Nexus S and Galaxy S 2.
Please give you opinion about my choice or some other device that I should consider.
Thanks
Prerak Desai
if you need a phone for development, first choose your target audience.
i dont think a vast majority of the people will be upgrading too soon to dual core...
now if u wanna push boundaries with your programming, go ahead with the latest...
but its good to have a phone that a greater percentage of the people have...
also, do consider the major portion of people are on android 2.2 and 2.1 (more than 85% as on google site)...
think from a developer pov, not a user...
Thanks HyprGeek for the reply. Seems to give me a point or two to think about.
But don't you think if I buy what majority are buying today, then in about a month time something new will come up and the crowd will start moving towards it. Then i'll be stuck with old device.
I personally feel you need have something(especially electronics device) that arefuture ready so that you don't regret your decision in a short time.
What do you think from a general point of view, which device I should consider?
Thanks,
Prerak Desai
well, u need to detemine how big the "crowd" is...
http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html
and i dont think computers/mobiles can ever be future ready...

[Q] Sell Skyrocket for Galaxy Nexus? Opinions?

I am really tired of not having much choices of roms for the Skyrocket. Honestly, there is going to be alot of flamers saying yes there are, but seriously c'mon. If there were great roms, users such as myself wouldnt be always searching for a rom thats close or similar to ICS. On another note, Im also sick and tired of AT&T throttling my connection.. I'd rather purchase an unlocked phone such as the Nexus and run the APN through that phone since it automatically forces the connection to stay ONLY in HSPA+. Sure its not LTE speed, but like someone said, whats the point of having LTE with data caps? I am not the type of people who are abusing the unlimited data plan, I am solely using it for Pandora, web browsing, and Netflix. I accumulate around 4-6gb per month. I recently got capped on LTE at 1.5gb... So you tell me, is LTE worth it? Another thing about the Skyrocket that I dont like is that there are wait times for updates to our phone. Samsung lags on updates, yet, Galaxy Nexus, since its an OFFICIAL GOOGLE PHONE, receives updates FIRST before any other device. "TRUE GOOGLE EXPERIENCE" huh?

Hey., here is a thought.. If you can do better.. MAKE A ROM YOURSELF
Hater's always going to hate.. Christ how many threads do we have like this.
Go with that Nexus.. Do you realize 2012 will be bringing quad-core phones and the Note from Att&t. and that "wonder" phone from Verizon will be last years news... Good luck.

You've got a good point. I would make a rom myself if I had the knowledge and the time to develop them. I am not bashing on rom devs, its all constructive criticism. You also failed to realize my main argument was clearly not whether the Nexus is a better phone than the Skyrocket, it was clearly about the data throttling and how we CANT force the network mode to stay in only HSPA rather than LTE. And yes, in 2012, there will be better phones, but did you factor in throttling will always be in effect? So what your phone runs 10x faster and better when your data usage is still capped? Point of this thread is to figure out what is the best phone to use to REMOVE AT&T throttling.. This isnt a complaining thread. Its merely a [Q] regarding throttling and which device is best suited to work around it...
But thanks for the reply.
Yes what he said ^^^^ and let me ad first questions go in q&a and second. Lol puting down the devs means honestly you do not deserve to even use the awesome roms. They work hard on in there free time wth out pay. And let undeserving people use. The skyrocket will have ics. In q1 of 2012. But you should just switch to verizon. Because we do not need this kind of attitude in our forum. Or on xda period. Something to think about. And the trolling threads are becomng agrivating

And there is an ics themed rom in the development section. I know you want more roms. But u have to understand dont post threads complaining about the development. It yas no benefit. And if u want to switch to verizon thats fine. But making a thread telling everypne your going to do it. Will only yield anrgy unpleasant responses. Good luck with your decision. Although in my oppinion its a big mistake

Sigh.. why is everyone thinking i am putting anyone down. first off, sorry this is in the wrong section. I was unaware of that. Second, I am not trying to put any developers down at all. I am would love to offer my support and help developing roms if I knew how. Like I said, my comments are merely what I am looking for in a rom. I appreciate rom developers taking their time to make these roms and not charge anyone who uses them.. Seriously, your taking all my comments in the wrong way.
I am sorry if my comments came off offensive, I mean no disrespect. I am merely asking a question in data throttling and devices. I am NOT switching over to VERIZON. I am asking about the GSM Nexus Unlocked.. Please read carefully and not add flames to a question thread.

All i am asking for is an opinion on which device you would recommend for my personal use. You guys are bashing without thinking about what the main focus of the question was. Seriously, the thread was made for help. Not to reject peoples thoughts or questions. XDA was suppose to be about a community of people who help one another with questions, development, etc. When did it become so hateful towards people who arent as knowledgeable as others.
Another thing, I've been searching on google for similar topics, but if I found the right answer, do you think I would be posting a thread asking? Seriously.

I cant believe how many of these I dont want my skyrocket threads I keep seeing. especially ones "threatening" to go to a different phone. The gnex is awesome with ics on it but after thats gone (when other phones have it) what are you left with? the razr in a different form. Im not a fan of the 1.2 TI omap at all and can't believe its in such a flagship device. once the sky has ics the only edge youll have is the higher res screen, which at that point Id leave for the skys chip. If you can't do it yourself, donate to a dev and maybe they can configure a good apn setting so you don't get throttled. or just get a gnex and complain about something on that forum
Its all good. Just read your posts carefuly before you post a thread. It seems very much like complaining. Its hard to judge the attitude of people when they post sometimes. So anyway. The unlocked nexus still is a bad choice. Check out the galaxy note or wait a bit and there will be ics roms for tue skyrocket . And as i said there is a ics theme rom in development. That alot of people like. Dont give up your lte. For the nexus its not worth it. It even has less useable screen space. Also not worh the money. When for the same ammount you could have the note. With its massive 5.3 inch hd amoled display. You can get the international version now. But an lte version is coming to att in 2012

Thank you, I appreciate your comment and I will decide to keep my phone. I am sorry if I came off the wrong way. I been searching for answers for my phone issues..
in your posts it seems you just want ics...be patient it will come. Give it some time and if it hasn't come prior to the att note or nexus THEN sell your skyrocket and buy one of those
.don't get an inferior phone just for ics

wait till official ICS, our hardware specs are better, so in theory it should work better after upgrade.

I had pondered the same thing but from what I read and have seen in the marketplace, people are not as happy with the nexus as they thought they would be. I think the hype was bigger than the actual product. I think the Nexus is a great phone but all the secracy and rumors made the phone seem better than the every other phone in the world. The Skyrocket has it's issues too but other than the screen, everything else is can be made better with ROM and the awesome Devs that make every device better and better.
Nexus is a huge scam..
A gold painted turd.
The gpu is old as hell
I'm not convinced battery technology is at a point where an HD display can really be supported. It looks like the Note is doing pretty well, but I've seen a lot of complaints about the gnex. I can attest that the Nitro HD had the worst battery life I've ever experienced...phone went back to the store and they exchanged with no restocking fee.
So, I'd stay sgs2 unless you are willing to lug a charger around everywhere.

First Time Smartphone user

Hi
Are there a list of things that a first time smartphone user should know. i am asking this cause i have never used a smartphone ever in my life. in fact i have never spent more than 50 dollars on a phone.
so please if you could please give me a headstart on what a smartphone noob should know
Well, first thing is what device now graces your eyes and hands? Second thing would be to read a little bit about your device.
Not saying that you will want to jump straight in and ROOT your phone but there is tons of information that might help you like what case or maybe different apps that help with battery life.

Do your research on each phone your looking into. Get to know your phone before trying to do any ROM/Kernel changes. Also be sure to research and do your homework before attempting any changes at risk of damaging the phone.
Be sure to know what you want in a smart phone as they can be very expensive, play with one at local best buy / see videos / reviews before you purchase. Depending on your carrier know if your looking for a 4G phone that you know it is a 4G phone. Research the specs, hardware, software. There isn't much flagship advice one can give you about using your phone that you cannot find out by just playing with the phone and seeing whether you enjoy it. Just know there is tons to do and with time you will easily learn the OS/Phone you enjoy.
Best advice is: Research and know what device you want before getting it, save money if you don't like it & play with one to learn / see if you enjoy that OS or phone.
I am using the HTC one x
Your best bet would be to do your research. Read, read and read some more. Learn what your device can and can not do. Most things you will not have to worry about depending on your needs.
One word you have one x..so good screen best for.HD porno

Most people use smartphones as a portable entertainment platform.... so learn how to download music, videos and games to your device and enjoy it
Learn power management , these phones can use a lot of power if you do not control it, when i got my first smart phone the battery would die in 8 or so hours, now i can get a day an half out of it maybe two without recharging it...
Example set your screen brightness down to50 % or less, email retreival to once a day and then check it manually. put a data off short cut on your main screen , turn it on/off as needed...

You are using a Smartphone for the first time and you had never used phone above $50. So I will not make you confuse by giving a list of Smartphones. I have choosen a Samartphone with every great feature and choosen as seeing you as a first time Smartphone user. Today most popular Smartphones are Android devices so you should by an Android Smartphone and you will have to spend at least $300. You need a phone with good camera, good music Input and Output quality and a touchscreen with a good touch response. So my suggestion is you can buy HTC Wildfire S its cost is about $300 maybe below $300. It has a 5 Megapixel camera with LED Flash, 3.2 Inch Capacitive touchscreen,3G, WiFi, GPS, HTC Sesnse User Interface 2.1, 512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM, Android 2.3 and it has every feature that you think about a good Smartphone.
HTC one X is a brilliant phone. Read this

That should be a good start.

New Upcoming Smartphones?

Does anyone know a list of all the next generation high end smartphones that will come up in the next few months?
Im starting university in october and I want to buy a smartphone that will suit my studies (computer science) . I want it to have a high end camera, fast in terms of multitasking (switching between apps fast and get the job done quickly) and maybe with stock Android L .
My current samsung s3 is laggy now..especially all those apps coming from samsung like (gallery, camera,my files etc.) I dont know if they fixed it on the newer versions like the s4 or s5. But I think I want something different this time. Dont tell me about galaxy nexus I dont like it.
So yea I want the stock apps to be fast too..
Any phone recommendations?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Free mobile app
The Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3 are both old business now; you would probably have a very different experience with any flagship from 2013 or 2014, which for the most part all have more than sufficient hardware. However, if you want to wait for the latest and greatest, there will probably be word of the next Nexus sometime within the next couple months.
There are 3 threads already established that are devoted to discussions about devices, please read, and if necessary, repost your question in one of these threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
There are also several other discussion threads that you probably should review to help you. They are What phone do you wish you had? or
The Worst Android Device That You've Ever Had & Why or even this place that talks about The best phone you ever owned.

choose a new "secure" phone

Hello everybody. This is my very first post and I've been on xda for something like 30 min. Therefore if the post is inappropriate delete or move it. Thanx.
Now why ask here? Well, I'm sort of developer and sys admin and I've learnt that best answers come from tech people, so here I am!
As first let start with a broad question.
I'm coming from a moto g first gen. My phone expected life is 2 years according to previous phones I've owned.
What am I searching? Well I'm focusing on a bit of security in software. For those who know linux I'm the kind of guy who uses centos on servers, ubuntu LTS or debian stable on vms or desktop, I'm not in search for the latest and greatest but proper patch level adherence in android.
I don't really bother about void warranty. Lets face it: in my country (italy) consumers devices have no SLA nor you can expect anything from repair shops, so in case of damage I still need to buy a second phone for temporary patch.
I'm asking you: what alternatives are here to nexus? I've red that sony seems good at following patch levels. Cyanogen (in case I'll buy and root a phone) seems to release stables now and then without strict montly patches. What about other roms?
In the end which are the alternatives to nexus (both stock or aftermarket) for a proper security patch coverage? I'm I "cursed" to buy a nexus or may I pick from supported devices of any of existent roms?
to narrow specs: I'm searching for something in the range € 200-250, between 4.7'' and 5.2'', 16-32 GB disk, 2+ GB ram, decent camera, wifi N (2.4 is ok, never used 5 ghz), basically don't care so much about other specs, just get good battery runtime.
Thank you,
M
PS: Potential buy is Nexus 5X (supported by google for next 2 years, and available around € 230 on some italian on line shops) but battery runtimes are not so good
Welcome to XDA!
Gee, I didn't realize it, but there are (at least) two of these well established topics (and stickied) going on now:
One is right above yours, for general discussion
The other is in the Q&A sister subforum, more tailored for asks
Since your thread is geared more for asking which to buy, I would go for the latter.
Good luck, and hope this helps.
To help promote the use of the above threads, I will be closing this one now.
