Okay so on CM7 my WiFi signal is just way weaker than it should be. I'm in the room right next to my router, and I have like half of a WiFi signal...On every Sense ROM I've tried (and the stock ROM), my WiFi works perfectly fine, yet on CM7 it's complete garbage...Does anybody know how I might solve this problem? Somebody suggested I try a new radio. I had been using stock, but I flashed the Telus radio and it was exactly the same. Also, why doesn't CM7 have an option to use like Advanced WiFi or w/e (where it works better but uses more battery, it's an option in the stock ROM)?
I'm on CM7 also but my WiFi is the same on this as it was on CoreDroid and stock ROM. I had the Atrix prior to the Inspire and will say the WiFi on that phone was annoying. I could stand right near my router and I'd have 1 bar of WiFi like really?
My Wifi was great on coredroid and inspiredsaga, buy not cm7 for some reason

That's strange. Does it run slower or just show less signal? If it runs at little to no noticeable difference is it a big deal?
I'm not sure because I don't really browse the web on my phone through wifi, I usually only download Apps and whatnot.
I'm not sure if it's slower, but I lose connection sometimes. I'll be downloading something and it will say "connectivity lost. rety?"

Are you checking signal strength in decibels or just bars? Decibels is the only way to make a fair comparison. Some ROMs may have a different bar/decibel ratio. 4 bars on one ROM might be 3 bars on another for the same given signal strength.
FWIW a couple of weeks ago I was curious if different ROMs affected signal strength. I tried rooted stock, CoreDroid, TPC, CM7 and Ultimate Droid and noticed no change in decibel signal strength. Wifi Analyzer and Network Signal are two such apps that will show decibels. Be sure to measure signal strengths in the EXACT same spot and take an average of signal strength (as they will vary a few dB normally).
One thing I noticed since switching to CM7 is that my signal strength is more accurate. My laptop shows 3-4 bars when I have it right next to my phone, and on the stock Sense ROM I was showing max signal. Now on CM7, I get 3-4 bars of Wi-Fi signal strength, so I think it's all a matter of how it measures. If you are seeing serious performance issues, then that's a different matter.
FWIW, I have not seen any Wi-Fi performance issues between CM7 and stock ROM.
I had the same issue with CM7.
At one end of my house, one or zero wifi bars with CM7. Kept flip-flopping between wifi and 3G, disrupting use.
With stock ROM or TPC Stock Optimized at the same location, phone gets one or two wifi bars and I can surf without the phone flip-flopping between wifi and 3G.

That is just a slight radio mismatch issue between CM7 and whatever radio you're using (it sounds like you're using the stock radio). I had the same thing happen to me using CM7 with the stock radio. This radio is fine for a lot of ROMs, and it gets good signal strength, and phone calls were no problem, but using CM7 in 1-2 bar wifi strength areas it would flip between wifi and cell data way more than it needed to. Flashing to radio 12.48.60.23U_26.08.04.07_M3 and flashing the RIL file HTC-RIL_2.2.1003G fixed this problem for me. Now the phone stays locked onto weaker wifi signals much better.
I read somewhere on this forum yesterday that one of the new nightlies for CM7 is going to have a different RIL in it; maybe it will address problems like this.
same here
i was having issues with my wifi and signal bars w/cm7 also, so i just switched to ace.
Just checking to see if anyone else with an Inspire on AT&T has experienced a signal dropoff in the last two or three days. One day I'm pegged at 4 bars WCDMA, now I can't seem to get out of GPRS/Edge. Seems it coincides with the rollout of the update. Anyone else getting crappy reception in the last few days?
No good reception

Reception is all right for could always be better, still waiting for AT&T to get the 4g ball rolling
Folks, I'm looking for those of you who have had LOSS of signal in the last week. Please no "mine sucks" or "mine is ok" kind of posts, i only want to hear from those of you who have had a change.
Does anyone know how to check the status of AT&T's cell towers? Is there a website that will show where they are and what their operational condition is?
You can call att and tell them where you are. They will give you information on the towers in your area.

Signal is crappy, but hasn't changed in the last few days. You should call AT&T and check with them
Well, just as I was about to call AT&T to find out what the heck might be going on, I now see my signal is very strong again, but with UMTS as the network type, though I'm showing 3G in my notification bar.
So, is UMTS the new 4G network and they were just changing the tower over the past few days?
They have been updating towers all over...So to answer your original question, yes I have experienced some bad signal at times, but has returned to a good signal after they finished updating whatever they were working on....

maybe this explains my many dropped calls in the last few days..

What are you showing for network type?
Actually it depends on where Im at in my house...i can move 15 ft and itll pick up an Edge signal....then switch to H+,which is still just 3G for now until LTE network is up and running...Ive only seen 3G once or twice since Ive had the phone...Also just a side note...Im on an unrooted, untampered with 1.84 ROM...Based on your posts, your rooted and using a custom ROM, issue may not be the phone or the towers, may be the ROM your using, unfortunately with the way ATT provisioned this software...you may have issues with certain things using custom ROMS....

I doubt that using the Custom Roms are the main issue. Many of the custom roms are using Stock Kernals and Radios. <- those are the two main contributing factors to cell strength and battery life.
I run MIUI on stock kernal now, with the new ATT Radio .26.06.06.30_M and have no issues. Denver CO Area and run full bars or -70 to -87 dcb at almost all times. Great download speeds.
Incorrect to a point....if provisioning isnt correct in the rom then there will be issues, att is trying to be slick in a lot of ways these days...

Update: turns out they were working on the tower(s) in my area. Signal back to normal. Thanks for everyone's feedback.
this happened to me last month, and now today is happening again lol. seems like they are working on towers a lot recently in my area. if i go to another city i get full bar H constantly...oh wells hopefully they will finish all the tower work soon.
my signal strength is fixed at -89 dbm 12 asu whichever sim i use wherever i use.checked at many places in india home office etc.only if i put 3g sim den it changes somewhat..is it a bug? what should i do?

cm7 official nightly

What's ur baseband? Mine is DDKT2 (India) & no problem. & when its -89dbm, I still get all 4 signal bars. & now its danc'n b/w -95 to -101dbm.
I've switched to official CM 7 today evening.

S5670DXKT7 and i m using latest cm7 nightly 20130201.i am also getting all 4 bars but on stock rom my signal strength used to go -60-70 dbm.and on elixir its showing only 40% signal strength. so i was hoping if i could get that to 80-90%
Yep!! When its strong signal, it won't go past -89dbm. Now, mine is full(coz net speed is around 20kb/s) & I too noticed this. But this issue is not of much worth(atleast for me...) & hope the same for ya...

Problem: WIFI shows 1 bar signal strength when next to WAP. Every other device in house hold, including other SGS3 have no signal issues.
Repeatable: Happens on every ROM including stock.
Can anyone think of logs or traces I should enable and pull to figure this out?
Thanks,

Weird issue I'm having on a G920i. In Settings -> About Device -> Status, the signal strength is being reported incorrectly. When I first boot the device, it will show accurately and will vary from -90 dBm to -100 dBm when I am at my house, which is consistent with every device I've ever owned. However, after 30-45 seconds, it will start reporting at "-113 dBm 0 asu" and it will simply stay there and will never change, even as I move about. The number of bars in the signal strength icon on the status bar will even change, but in the Status menu, signal strength simply stays at "-113 dBm 0 asu" permanently. Connectivity seems to be fine--I have no problems making calls, browsing the web, etc. The signal strength in the Status menu simply seems to revert to and stick at 113 dBm 0 asu with no explanation or other impact on the phone.
For what it's worth, I've tried both the New Zealand and Singapore AOD1 firmwares from Sammobile.com. Same problem on both. I'm on AT&T in the U.S.
Anybody else seeing anything like this?
Yes it seems both the g920i and g920f all have this problem. Every single device. Please get in contact with Samsung about it, the more people that complain the more likely it will be fixed.
@mupet0000 & @phositadc I've seen you guys in a few forums talking about the Galaxy S6 SM-G920I signal issues... Mine is the same! Swapped 2 phones already and they have awful lte reception... I was hoping a different modem/baseband would help but it looks like it doesn't....plus a few soft reboots as well what's going on? Have you guys experienced any reboots? Can this be fixed with a software update?
OK checked mine and its yes your right. -113 in status however if you type *#0011# in your dialer you'll see the better reception reported. Interestingly this did not happen when I was on the Cricket towers(At&t). I just switched to T-Mobile and I now have the -113 status. My speeds are great but I can't side-by-side compare the radios to anything to know if there is a real problem.

No reboots here. I flashed the aod3 modem last night and things seem a little better on AT&T. On the aod1 modem, I was not getting LTE in a bunch of places that I've always had LTE before. I know the g920i has frequency support for AT&T LTE bands, and I do get LTE, but I must say so far the experience has not been as good as other LTE phones I've had. Not sure if that's the modem firmware to blame or the hardware itself. Probably firmware.

Hey all, I'm in the UK and I have the SGS6 edge on the 3 network here. I use my phone for tethering at all times as I do not have wifi in the house. with my SGS5 before this I could easily run my PC , Tablet my son mobi and his gaming PC all at the same time with no issue. The S5 would run a full signal and load very quickly HD content.
My brand new S6 is disapointing singnal wise from straight out the box. I noticed my signal level fluctuating up and down but very rare dose it show a full signal level. and as for teathering I am finding it very hard to live with.
I will be suprised if Samsung sort this out with firmware. I just had a 150 MB firmware update yesterday and my signal level is the same.
I remember my Nokia N96 having this same fault, and although it was all over the internet back then, Nokia did nothing in all the firmware updates I had. I was going to sell my pristine 7 month old S5..... but I think I will hang on to it for now.
Hey guys, I am on the latest OTA released by Samsung (AOE3 built May 7th) and the problem is still not resolved. LTE signal still awful and LTE signal strength still -113. So far so bad. I have contacted Samsung again, and tomorrow I have a phone call with their support where they will remotely access my phone so I can show them the problem. I will show them and see how it goes, and I'll report back here.
I will make it clear to them that the signal strength is worse than my 2 year old S4, and I will demonstrate the incorrect signal strength value to the support agent. If they tell me it's a non issue or they make some silly excuse instead of investigating, I will simply sell the S6 and get another phone.
This is a huge issue and I'm disappointed that there aren't many people noticing this or reporting it to Samsung. The more popular the S6 gets, the more people will notice that their old phone holds a better signal.

I think it is a widespread issue... I always have 1 bar lte and under my signal status it say - 113dbm which is zero service... It never moves... I'm gonna try custom rom and see if that help but it obviously a antenna/modem baseband issue... Also someone mentioned it could be because the Galaxy S5 uses Cat 4 lte and the S6 uses Cat 6.....its very disappointing! Hopefully it gets fixed or I'll return to the S5...i really want to like this phone..... But Samsung is making it hard to
I don`t think there is anything wrong with the signal. even if I only have 1 bar the phone is perfect during calls and my LTE/4G download speed is even over the provided speed my carrier provides, I think it`s just a bug that it`s showing less signal then what it actualy has.

This is true. It's simply a bug that shows the wrong signal strength - mine shows -113 but I'll have 3 bars so that makes no sense. However, if you ARE getting a bad signal, that is a different issue altogether.
(btw I started a thread about this already several weeks back)
Spoke to Samsung on the phone, they didn't need to remote access my phone to see the issue. They had an S6 in their office and they told me they saw the signal at -113dBm just like mine. They say they have passed this onto the relevant team and hopefully it will be fixed in an OTA and I should stick to the United Kingdom BTU firmware (the correct firmware for my region).
We will see if this gets resolved. They definitely know about the problem now and have seen it with their own eyes, so I'm hopeful.

Ok.. Thanks... I already read through that thread too... Been trying to figure out if it was just me or alot of people..... Seems like the 920f is getting more updates that us.... 920I......The latest is AOD3 right? Today I'm gonna flash a custom rom for 920f and see if there is any change....
*edit* just checked Samsung live update... AOE3 was just released for 920I for TTT I guess is a country called Trinidad and Tobago... But that is the firmware I've been using.... Hopefully this will help... Let Ya guys know
*edit #2*...ok guys just updated to AOE3.... Bars still show low but the signal status is working and it's showing that I have a better signal than with *#0011*... The - dbm and asu is now extremely close to my S5... So in conclusion the signal is strong it just doesn't show it in the bars like previous Galaxy's
