Yank battery. Leave for a day. Try again. I know it sounds good but works for me. Never had that EXACT issue though.. so there.

It seems like infuse is restarting continuosly. i tried plugin cable in pc, pressing both volume but nothing is working,

Samsung Captivate has some serious issues and need so help!!!

Ok here is what I have got
Last night I plug the phone into the wall charger with the usb cable and the phone just starts booting, shuting down over and over again so I unplug the USB cable power it off then plug back in a it goes into download mode and says Downloading do not turn off target with a progress bar then it just shut down right in the middle of everything.
Now all I can do is get a screen that says AST_STAT =0x1 with about six lines of stuff under simalar to that all orange in color.
Every now and then I can get to the downloading do not turn off target screen but it does nothing and niether of my computers what to recongize it.
Call ATT they said it was the battery I say it isn't and took apart the USB cable and a wire had come loose and was touching another. So I am assuming it just geeked out the phone and some how lost everything even the OS. I went and bought a new USB Cable that is when I got it to do what it is doing now.
Is there anything I can do to get it back up and running or is it a paper weight now.
I was running the unoffical/offical Samsung Captivate 2.2 OS. No costum rom and the phone was not rooted.
Have you tried using Odin and flashing it back to stock?
I have tried but I can get passed the downloading screen odin does not reconize the phone.
One time when I plugged it into my laptop if was tring to get some android generic drivers but the cable came unplugged and I can get it to do it again and I am having trouble getting to the download screen.
Could someone please give me a step by step thing I can try because what I have found so far isn't getting the problem fixed.
Thanks

[Q] HELP! Think I am totally SOL

I have been having trouble with my Bell Vibrant for the past few days, with a black screen after the 'S' Tried several things out there to resolve this issue, nothing seemed to work.
In desperation I tried the Odin3 one-click, not noticing its for the captivate. I successfully flashed and am now in a reboot loop with the AT&T logo screen. I can't get into recovery mode. or download mode to re flash with different ROM.
Any ideas????
Yes this is a vibrant device running a captivate rom and I have also posted this question in Vibrant general.

Use odin for the vibrant, not familiar with that SGS phone so I don't know if they have a one click odin . If not, you will need the stock .tar or kernel, modem and zimage files.
Open Odin in windows.
Take out your extSD, Sim and battery, wait 10+ secs.
Now plug the usb in.
While holding the vol +- insert the battery and it should go into download mode.
Now you can click start in odin.
I do know that the vibrant is a pain in the ass to get into download mode and that the above is the most consistent way to get there.
This is what I know of the vibrant, correct me if I'm wrong anyone.
For what it's worth, I had a hard time getting my captivate into download mode. This is what I had to do...when you do this, have the ODIN for your phone ready because if you back out from download mode, you'll get the blessed 'phone to computer' screen...which I was still able to get into download mode from...but some people haven't had such luck.
1) Turn off phone...(take battery out or whatever)
2) Holding the two volume buttons down, SLOWLY plug in USB cord HALF-WAY. Push it in just a tad...if the screen doesn't come up with the shoveling android...push in just a little bit more...keep doing this until you get the shoveling android...if the phone turns on...you missed it - start over.
3) Once in download mode, if the ODIN program doesn't see your phone on a COM port yet...push the USB cord in the rest of the way and it should see it then. I think I actually had to unplug the cord and plug it back in slowly till it saw it. Once it does see it, don't touch the cord anymore!
4) Click start on ODIN and let it do it's thing. You should see a progress bar show up on your phone's download screen within a minute or so...if not...turn off the phone and try again. you will get the 'blessed' screen but hopefully you won't have to do it.
My heart stopped for a bit when I tried the above and it didn't work the first time and I got the 'blessed' screen. But I just tried again and all was fine...so don't fret too much.
Anyways...hope this helps.

He is on a vibrant, not a captivate although it should be close to the same procedure. I've seen the usb half plug method but it never did anything for mine.
A jig should do the trick. Get a MicroUSB-b plug breakout board from sparkfun.com and two resistors (300k+1k) in serial across pins 4 and 5. Turn your phone off and take the battery, sim, and external sd card out. Pop the jig into the usb slot and put the battery back in. The phone should go into download mode on it's own without you having to hit any buttons.
After that, just follow what everyone else said - use a one-click-stock odin for your particular model.
The jig worked. took a trip to the source and grabbed the resisters and took apart the micro USB adapter included in my BlueAnt handsfree.

how exactly did you get to this point? im guessing an odin flash that went wrong? im assuming when you tried recovery/download you were using the button combos, did you have a jig to force download mode?
If you're lucky you can use a USB jig to force it into download mode and restore it blind. If you're REALLY lucky that will work and your phone will be back to normal.
I bought it with the new rom on it. it worked find for several weeks now and suddenly one day in the middle of the day its stoped working and showed me the yellow screen.
at first I went into recovery mode without changing anything and it was back to normal but now I can't even do that anymore.
Well, you could be happy its not completely black . I suggest powering it off, charging it up a bit. and BUY a jig (not build one, because you need it to work for sure on the first try). Then basically put the jig in, if the screen turns on, it MAY be in download mode, plug it in to your computer, and flash back to stock through ODIN.
ALSO, be careful, if you have a later build of the phone, you may need to use odin 1.3 to restore it. If its an early build, you can use odin one click
what do you think?...
if ill plug it in after I do the vol up + vol down... I will still see the yellow screen but I wonder does the "download mode" working behind it?
if ill plug it in to odin and it will recognize it will it work? or do I have to buy the usb jig that may not work?
You can try with just the button combo, but just because odin sees it doesn't mean it's in download mode odin sees my phone in all modes but it will only work in download mode otherwise odin will just hang at "setting up target"
you don't have to buy a jig, it's fairly simple to make one ... But even if you did buy one it's under ten dollars, which is less than you are gonna pay for a new phone.

There is no reason to buy a jig. I happen to know that the range of resistance is between 292kohm-316kohm according to the fsa chip's specs. You just need something in that range of resistance between USB pin's 4 and 5.
The screen does not need to display the download mode indicator to be in download mode. The download mode splash screen is not a part of the download program. it's just a splash screen. Hook it to the computer and see if it works with 2 button+battery combo... Hold VOL+, VOL- and insert battery while USB is plugged in.

Nah, joking aside I need your brain power because unfortunately mine is full of air!

have u tried a download jig or taking the battery out and then (while holding volume down) putting the battery in? sometimes that works it worked for me when i couldnt get it into download mode
Yeah ive done the jig thing and still to no avail. I am starting to think that irt is completely finished.
I'm in the same boat now. Odin froze, unplugged cable to restart process and now have a solid white screen. PC makes a noise as if it's connected, no access to phone and unable to get into download mode. Please help.
Guys I would suggest to try different factors and experiment.
:thumbup:Try a different USB Cable.
:thumbup:A different USB port.
:thumbup:A different computer/PC perhaps.
:thumbup:Also make sure u reboot the computer you just freshly installed the up-to-date Kies drivers.
