i would like to install cm9 on my ns 9020t [currently running androidme 1.1.0}
and in installation instruction, posted by author of the rom is stated , that cache partition has to be wiped prior to flash rom.
so im asking very nicely;
if i didnt partition my sd storage yet, do i have to wipe cache partition to install cm9 rom?
i guess not, cuz it could cause total failure of my sd storage, but i always prefer to ask.

Hi all, I just flashed CM7 using the newest clockwork mod recovery. Now it says my internal memory is full. I havnt deleted anything internally since I got the phone. What is the best way to format that memory and reinstall a fresh copy of CM7?

Go to recovery......in recovery go wipe cache, factory reset/data, go to mounts/storage and format system, data, cache....go to advance and delete dalvik cache..... then just install zip from sd, choose zip, flash taht **** and reboot your phone

I don't mess with CWM wiping partitions anymore, I wrote a flashable script for that - a long time ago there was an issue with that on CWM 4.0.0.8
A member has confirmed that A01 wipe will be okay if you turn off and have no ROM installed, you will still be able to get to CWM and flash whatever you want.
A01 wipe will format /cache, /data and /system
B01 wipe will format /cache and /data
Use as needed.
I keep a backup memory card with my phone at all times that has A01 wipe, B01 wipe, and my original CWM backup of my stock system on it, in case I ever need to go back to stock if something goes wrong.
Attached are the scripts, just throw these on your sdcard and flash like normal in CWM if you need to, before installing a ROM or patch if needed.

hey Blue just outta curiosity has anyone confirmed having issues with wiping through CWM with the new recovery or has the issue carried over from the 4.0.0.8/9?
I'm pretty sure I don't remember anyone having issues directly with cwm 4.0.0.9, and it was only a problem with 4.0.0.8 - even then not everyone experienced it.
I haven't tried the new recovery available yet, I meant to get to it this weekend, but it doesn't look like i'll get a chance to fit it in my schedule. I haven't seen my lady in just over a week, so spending the weekend with her.
Hopefully over the next week i'll get a chance to bring myself up to speed with it, I don't expect to go back to 4.0.0.9 once I move up to the new CWM recovery.
Hi i'm currently running one of ics roms , although i'm suffering from reboots, so i want to do a clean install.
My questions;
- is it safe for me to wipe cache partition, even if I've never did partition my storage,
- can i delete from my sdcard such a files like (android data, lost, lazy list, android secure) prior to install new room?

You can wipe everything just don't wipe SD card.
flash rom and davlik wiper zips found here before installing new rom and you will get clean install and it doesnt erase your sd. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21588527&postcount=2
Is it correct that you wipe all partitions except sd card and dalvik & cache before you install a new Rom.and after the Rom is installed do you wipe the dalvik & cache again one more time.If you do wouldn't wiping the dalvik & cache after your new Rom is installed erase,remove the new Rom that you just installed.Is it alright to just wipe the partitions except the sd card before installing a sense Rom over a sense Rom or vice-versa going from a sense to a nonsense Rom and or nonsense to a sense Rom. Hi,
If you want a clean install ,then it is correct to wipe all the partitions except the sd card.
A simpler way is to use a SuperWipe zip.
This does it all for you.
You only need to do it once,before installation of the ROM.
When I change Roms, Iwipe cash, then wipe dalvik cash, then I wipe data factory reset, then install zip from SD , reboot, and I'm finished. I don't format all partitions except sd. Maybe I should be doing that. I only wipe BEFORE installation and not after. It's been working for me I've never had a problem yet thank God! Usually I pay attention to what the developer says to do on the Rom site. Each Rom has specific flashing instructions. If the Developer asks to format partitioning of sd card I would do it because every Rom is different.
I just have not came across those instructions yet. I suppose everyone does things a little differently also. This is just the way I do it. Others might do it differently. I have not had any problems yet and I flash a lot! Just follow recommended instructions and you will be fine. Best wishes. Happy flashing !

Check your rom thread before using superwipe as it causes issues with some builds. An alrernative is to wipe user data/factory reset, then wipe both caches using 4ext recovery.

I am curious about doing an internal data wipe before flashing a new Rom. I am using TWRP 2.5.5. I am on the 4.2 bootloader and am about to update to the new CROMi. I know that doing a factory reset wipes dalvik, cache, and system, am I wrong in thinking this still leaves some stuff left over on your internal SD? If it does, I want to format all of it. I have the 4.2.1 bootloader, the CROMi rom, and a 4.2.1 stock nandroid backup I made in TWRP all saved on my external SD. What I dont understand is if I format all the data on the internal, how will the tablet know what to do when I boot it back up? Will TWRP be lost? If it does boot back up, what will it boot back up to? I just dont quite understand this internal SD formatting thing so well, so I am asking for some help so I can avoid doing something stupid. I know this is possible because I have read about other people doing it in the CROMi thread, I just want to make sure I am not missing anything
Your tablet has the following partitions (and some others which are irrelevant for this discussion):
- Bootloader
- Recovery
- Linux kernel
- Cache partition (/cache)
- System partition (/system)
- Data partition (/data)
The internal SD card is an emulation that uses /data/media as storage. So if you format /data, that removes all user data including the contents of your "internal SD card" emulation. I don't know why the normal "factory reset" somehow deletes only the rest of /data excluding /data/media. It may be convenient but not what I would understand as "factory reset".
If you format /system (which is not touched by a factory reset), you won't be able to boot Android unless you install a new ROM before you reboot. You don't need to format /system, it's done by the CROMI installer anyway.

Aweomse! Thanks for helping me understand that a little better. My first ROM was CROMi 3.4.4 and I researched all this for about an entire week before I started this but I never fully understand the difference with formatting internal SD and factory reset. I have always installed the new ROM before rebooting anyway but it is nice to know CROMi does the system wipe for you. Didnt know that. If I were to do a complete wipe, would I need to install the most recent 4.2 bootloader prior to installing CROMi so it is there for CROMi to build on?
Oh, and btw your Kernels for CROMi are outstanding.

(I personally have never used any of the wipe options so far, so I am just repeating what I read about it)

There is no "wipe bootloader" option, so there is no need to reinstall the bootloader. Wiping the bootloader would also brick your device and you would need nvflash to recover.

Good to know. Glad I didnt attempt that. My firmware version was .30 so nvflash was not an option for me. Thanks again for your help.
I am having a HTC Explorer... I have unlocked the bootloader and have rooted my phone. I have CWM Recovery installed.. I treid installing custom ROM, but after installing once I reboot, it keeps showing the custom ROM's animated loading screen and never proceeds forward. I have tried 4 different custom ROM's and also tried to install Stock ROM but same happens.
During installation I don't get any sort of error. But once I reboot the phone it is stuck on the loading animation. I have already tried formatting data, clearing partition cache and clearing dalvik cache...
Can any one help regarding this issue.. ?
P.S: I don't have any backup..I know I should have backed up...but still...

Firstly specify which which roms you tried which recovery you are using.
Well to say..
If you are using sense based Roms.. Then ext partition is needed.. Which can be done in recovery- Advanced- Partition sd card..
Partitioning sd card will format your card so take a backup of it
If you are using sense based roms then use recovery which mounts ext Like TWRP or Philz or CWM Latest one..
If not a sense based rom:
1. Go to recovery
2. Wipe data/factory reset.
3. Wipe cache partition.
4. Advanced -> Wipe dalvich cache.
5. Mounts and storage -> format /boot, /cache, /system , /sd-ext(if present).
6. Dont format anything else.
7. Install zip -> flash the rom.
8. Reboot

Even tried Stock ROM..
