Wiping dalvik & cache and all partitions except sd card. - HTC Sensation

Is it correct that you wipe all partitions except sd card and dalvik & cache before you install a new Rom.and after the Rom is installed do you wipe the dalvik & cache again one more time.If you do wouldn't wiping the dalvik & cache after your new Rom is installed erase, remove the new Rom that you just installed. Is it alright to just wipe the partitions except the sd card before installing a sense Rom over a sense Rom or vice-versa going from a sense to a nonsense Rom and or nonsense to a sense Rom. Thanks...

Hi,
If you want a clean install ,then it is correct to wipe all the partitions except the sd card.
A simpler way is to use a SuperWipe zip.
This does it all for you.
You only need to do it once, before installation of the ROM.

When I change Roms, Iwipe cash, then wipe dalvik cash, then I wipe data factory reset, then install zip from SD , reboot, and I'm finished. I don't format all partitions except sd. Maybe I should be doing that. I only wipe BEFORE installation and not after. It's been working for me I've never had a problem yet thank God! Usually I pay attention to what the developer says to do on the Rom site. Each Rom has specific flashing instructions. If the Developer asks to format partitioning of sd card I would do it because every Rom is different.
I just have not came across those instructions yet. I suppose everyone does things a little differently also. This is just the way I do it. Others might do it differently. I have not had any problems yet and I flash a lot! Just follow recommended instructions and you will be fine. Best wishes. Happy flashing !

Check your rom thread before using superwipe as it causes issues with some builds. An alrernative is to wipe user data/factory reset, then wipe both caches using 4ext recovery.

[Q] How do I update Eagle's Blood from v1.5 to v1.6?

Sorry for the noob question but 1.6 was giving me a black screen and i looked up on that board someone said that it happened to them too. the way the resolved the issue was by flashing to 1.5(which I did and it worked) then they updated to 1.6
So how do i do that? Do I just flash to 1.6 after 1.5? do i rename it update.zip and update that way?any help would be appreciated. thank you.
I had that problem as well. was on 1.4 then to 1.6 so make sure you Factory wipe/reset and then wipe wipe wipe (cache partiotion and dalvik (3x). make sure zip is on your sdcard and go into recovery and install that way. also make sure you fix permissions and wipe battery stats EVERYTIME you install a new rom. and you should know to back-up before doing any of this.

Don't do that, when updating a ROM, just install the zip in the root of your SD card, wipe dalvik cache and flash the new ROM version on top. No need to wipe data

[Q] Full wipe with dalvik cache etc. on Stock Rom

Hi,
if the upgrade to ICS is available i want to do a full wipe with factory reset before.
How is the best way and in which order is best to do a full system cleansing with stock rom 2.3.6 installed.
First deletion of SD Card an than over the recovery menu resetting the rest?

I'm no expert but why would you delete the sdcard?
Root, install CWM recovery via rom manager. Select if you have 4g or not.
load rom onto root of the sdcard
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Flash rom
If you want to install a custom kernel instead of the one that comes with your rom of choice
After you flash the rom
Go back and rewipe dalvik
Then flash kernel
Reboot and enjoy

There's no point in wiping the dalvik twice, and instead of wiping the dalvik in CWM I'd use dalvik-wiper.zip by Morfic. Flashable zip, and it actually wipes the dalvik.
The rest is all good to the best of my knowledge.
Full wipe with GB stock rom before upgrade to ICS
Hi,
@polobunny
on the SD memory are two folders named .android_secure and Android where Android specific things are stored in. I have read that for a new and clean system build up would be good to delete this folders before.
@sookieball
I have only the normal stock rom 2.3.6 with stock recovery (no CWM) and want to stay there.
So then I think the best way is to go over the menu and do a reset to the factory settings. Delete the to folders on the SD memory manually and afterwards I will go into the recovery menu and delete the dalvik cache and then apply the ICS update.
Why i want to to this? I have at the moment a lot of useless Apps installed and i want to refresh all and start with a clean system with upgrading to ICS. Thats all.
Wherever you read that you should stop reading there.

the "formal all partiotions" is a more complete wipe i recommend to do that when installing a new rom in few words it wipes everything you can choose singly too

The "Factory Reset" only wipes the data partition of the phone (all the user-based info), whereas the "Format All Partitions" does exactly that (data, system, boot, sd-ext, cache, etc).
Thank you very much!!!

[Q] Complete system reinstallation

Hello,
I'd like to completely wipe my system (wipe system, cache, factory reset AND SD card) for a fresh installation. But what I usually do is flash the zip file of the new rom from SD card. I'd like to ask how to flash the new system when the SD card is wiped.
Thank you

You don't need to wipe the sd card, the rom doesn't store anything there, just some apps do. But if you wiped it you also wiped out your rom, that was on it. I would advise wiping everything, but that next time, if you insist on wipe sd, do it after rom flash, or once you boot the rom from storage settings.

[Solved] Right Way to Wipe/Format using 4EXT Touch Recovery

I've been using 4EXT Touch Recovery to wipe/format before flashing certain roms. Is there a right way on how to wipe/format using 4EXT Touch?
This is how I do it (correct me if I'm wrong):
1. wipe date/factory reset
2. wipe cache
3. wipe cache + dalvik
4. wipe dalvik cache
5. wipe battery stats
6. format system
7. format data
8. format boot
9. format all partitions (except sdcard)
10. format sdcard
11. flash rom

If you are flashing an update of the same ROM do "wipe dalvik cache + cache" (in case the Developer has not clearly stated that the update requires full wipe)
If you are flashing a new ROM use "wipe all partition (except sdcard)" it will do all the wipes from the wipe menu, no need to repeat it
And wiping the sdcard every time you install a ROM clearly does not make any sense, you are deleting all you pictures, music and all other files that are not related to any ROM you are using

I didn't know that "format all partition (except sdcard)" is the same from 1 to 8. I'll try using it from now on every time I install new roms. Also, I thought that wiping my sdcard every time I install rom is to make that rom fully utilized/functional. And that is why I back up all my pictures, music, and all other files in my laptop. Anyhow, thank you for your simple but very relevant response.
There are some ROM specific files on the SDcard but a full wipe (all partitions except sdcard) clears them too
