Hi folks.
I hope you can assist with this seemingly simple task - I just about have hair left on my head. Im having real problems getting this to work.
Windows does detect and install the device as an 'MZ604' but I think its using its own driver, as does not show in explorer to allow file access. It does work on a Win 7 PC in work OK automatically.
Ive tried multiple things after reading through posts - debug mode, different USB ports and also installed the moto drivers (which are running in task manager) but should I see some sort of app in the foreground? Whatever happened to a nice .inf file - I cant find one anywhere!
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Andy

Hello All,
I recently bought my first smartphone here in Beijing. It's a dopod D805; I hope to upload media to it from my Vista-loaded PC.
The problem is Vista doesn't seem to recognize the device. I downloaded Windows Mobile Center (sorry if I've got the name wrong) but it doesn't seem to do anything. The CD that came with the device doesn't work (it keeps telling me to install Flash 8.0, which seems to imply the software on the disc was designed for pre-Vista systems).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Update:
The phone seems simply not to work on Vista. I am now dual-booting XP alongside Vista, and have had much more success using XP and Activesync.
A new newbie question:
I cannot copy files (music, PDFs) from my PC's HDD to the phone's drive. Each time I try I am told there is not enough free space on the drive. This is absurd, as there is nothing on the drive other than what came on it, and the files I'm trying to copy are quite small. What gives?

Welcome to the forum
Have a look in the Wiki here:

Hope it helps,
Thanks for the response.
I checked that page before posting, but it doesn't seem to have much beyond the specs for my model.
All I want to do is install Pleco, and upload some MP3s/PDFs. When I plug the device in, I get the "bing bong" sound, but no new HD appears in My Computer. Since I'm running Vista, I can't use the bundled Activesync software.
Help?
i dont know if this will help but i cant sync my phone with xp unless i set my firewall to allow all.
if you go to my computer and look at your drives, does it not show you phone there as F: or whatever?
Right, it doesn't show a new drive. Note that I'm running Vista, not XP. I'm in the process of getting a dual-boot setup going, but I'm not there yet. Very frustrating.

Hello,
I am a newbie here and I really enjoy the forums. I have a couple of questions. I am having trouble getting the net framework to download on my computer properly and I dont know how to get the actual program on my diamond. I am also having problems with playing some of the games like Xtrackt and the beer simulator and shoot me. It claims I need the newer net framework. I ALSO cannot run TF3D config on the device for some reason.
-Any takers?
Hey there,
there are two ways of installing .net. I don't know which version you are looking for, but it should be the same for all versions.
You can either do it through active sync/mobile device center, therefore you connect your phone, set up the connection with active sync/mobile device center and then run the setup of .net.
You can find a .cab file via google, download it directly to your phone or transfer it from your computer via usb to the phone and just run it there to install.

Ok, thanks! 99% of my applications are working now. However, I am still having a problem with Xtract running. Everytime I try to run it, it does not work and keeps coming up with pop-up messages and sometimes just end up soft reseting the diamond. Please help
Hi everyone - long time lurker, first time poster here. Anyway, I've been wracking my brain over this for some time and haven't been able to find an answer at all, so I apologize if my search skills aren't up to par.
Anyway, I've got a samsung captivate and I've successfully rooted and installed a few Froyo ROMs without issue (Cognition, Axura, etc). The problem Im encountering is that whenever I try to connect to my PC (4 different PC's actually - all some variant of windows 7 32 or 64 bit) in MTP mode, the Captivate shows up in the device manager as SAMSUNG_ANDROID with an exclamation point saying that the device could not be started.
My ultimate goal here is to sync the items with Windows Media center, because I create and update a lot of playlists and such on my HTPC, of which I'd like to keep up to date on my phone.
When I use the stock ROM, it works flawlessly - no issues at all
I've tried the following:
1. Search for files with extensions over 16 digits - nada
2. Tried using Kies, no luck at all there.
3. Various driver updates from various sources
4. Removing / unmounting my external SD card
Copying the files over manually works, but that doesn't give me playlists
Doubletwist really isnt an option, because it will only sync with the internal card, not the 32 gb external.
If anyone has ever gotten this to work, I'd be forever grateful.

You have a few different issues listed:
1. Playlist sync support doesn't work with the native player. Period. It stores all playlists in a database - Even Kies doesn't sync playlists.
2. Internal vs. External storage sync is dependent on software - some apps have no idea that there are 2 storage locations and pick the first.
As for getting MPT to work - I have had driver issues, and the solution was to uninstall everything - drivers and Kies, reboot and only install one driver. Since Froyo is not official - you have a 50/50 chance - either Captivate, or generic Samsung for all phones. I would try the captivate driver.
One other thing to look at - media monkey - it will sync to any SD card - you can pick the one - so you don't need MPT mode.
Yeah, I use the doubletwist App as my player - that reads WMP's playlists perfectly. As for the syncing, it's pretty much gotta be windows media center or nothing. I just love plugging it in and letting it auto-sync. Like I said, the stock firmware works perfectly for this (But sucks otherwise - hence why I root & update).
OK, I misunderstood - I was thinking Doublestwist desktop. I can't remember if MediaMonkey supports autosync - I think it does, but like I said it can do MTP or direct to SD - so very flexible. I bet it uses the same playlists (m3u i think).
Actually, I just tried your advice and uninstalled samsungs drivers completely and rebooted. It worked flawlessly, Im syncing now. Who'da thunk samsung's drivers would turn out to be the issue? Thanks so much dude, you rock.
Glad to help... I ran into wierd issues with Kies, Kies mini, and 3 sets of drivers installed... that fixed it for me, so it couldnt hurt you.
Anyone tried to get Googles AppInventor to work with the GTablet. I have had no luck. I have the correct USB Drivers installed (I did a NVFlash a while back) but the AppInventor Blocks Editor does not show a connection option. I ran the ADB as suggested and it shows no Devices. Not sure where to go from here. I will keep looking, but if anyone hass any suggestions, please chime in
Google's AppInventor looks like a easy way to build simple android apps.
I have tried app inventor and it's really cool. I used it with my Galaxy S and it worked just fine I just tried it on my Gtab and the app appeared onscreen but does not look like it saved. I literally spent 4 min on it. I'm running Vegan 5.1
It also has an option to save the .apk to your desktop and load to an sd.
Sounds like you may not have the correct driver installed or its not properly installed. I struggled with this same issue for over a week, before I finally got it working last night.
There are two different drivers. One driver, (the one for doing NVFlash) you downloaded from the Tegra developer zone. This driver, you only use when powering on in APX mode. This is not the driver you need for Google AppInventor.
The driver you need to use for AppInventor is the one from the Android SDK kit in the usb_driver folder. Assuming that you are using Windows, power on your Gtab as you normally do, connect the USB cable, then check what comes up in the Device Manager on your PC. You should see a listing for Android Phone and within that a listing for Android Composite ADB Interface. If you don't see this, you're not using the correct driver or its not properly installed.
After you check your Device Manager, post your results here. I would be happy to help you out.
I tried the search, but it's down.
Anyone know if it's possible or a good alternative way to access files on your SDCARD from your computer?
Thanks
you only have a few options
the main 3: ADB, MTP, FTP.
There are issues with the drive not showing up. I'm having the same problem.
MTP=error
PTP= works, but is mostly useless.
Looking at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514396 now.
Edit: Simply removing my existing android device from device , along with the "delete driver" option fixed it. (windows 7)
I had the "universal adb driver v.72"
Noticed the Google driver has support for the nexus 5 as well.
https://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#top
Edit2: adb also works out of the box with the google driver.
WiFi File Transfer is a good alternative https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransfer&hl=nl. Airdroid is also a very good app for wireless file transfers.
Grab a ftp server to run on your phone is an alternative, but Wi-Fi transfer rates are often quite bad compared to usb.
I'm very satisfied with mtp, I nearly never transfer files between computer and phone.
