Tizen OS Source Code Available - HD2 MeeGo Development

Hey friends,
We have heard about the Tizen OS. It is yet another linux os for the mobiles & smartphones. It seems that they have released their source code over here:
SOURCE CODE
and the SDK as well...
Hope to we can see this on our beloved HD2 soon.

well it's not so new, it's the fusion between, Limo, Moblin, Maemo, Meego (and i think Bada too since Samsung is heading up the project).
I think it will became the main Samsung OS.
Samsung planned 41 billion dollars for R&D this year....

I am following this thread for the past one year and I have yet to see someone post even a partially working build of maemo, meego, Limo, or Tizen as they call it these days. So here is the suggestion to all the devs who can make a build for the HD2, please make a partially working build so that someone else can improve upon it.
thanks in advance.

@s8isfi I have been following for a looking time also. I gave up a long time ago I don't even know why I'm on the forum.

Hi All,
I have downloaded the Tizen 1.0 ARM image from here and created new initrd.cpio and mounted all required filesystems (EXT4) to make Tizen boot from HD2. Used the kernel from here
Initially i was able to see some dialogs saying default depth should be 24 or 32. Then I configured xorg with framebuffer and with default depth as 16 as mentioned in Htc-Linux. I almost had it . Now i am stuck at black screen with a cursor displayed for long time :crying:.
I think I am missing something. This is the first time I am trying to do all this stuff. Need to go much more deep into it. I hope this should not take much time. I will try to come up with a positive status in this...
Cheers,
Diwakar
HTC HD2 - The Immortal

You could post the files for it here so others can contribute

Sure. I will share those files asap.
Okay let me share some news on my second try on Tizen in HD2. After long struggle Tizen boot was successful till the Tizen startup animation showed up!!! :good:
Now I could see a pop up error message (WOW! I can see a graphical content ) saying that the compositor must need 24 or 32 depth. But HD2 is configured Xorg and working fine only with 16bpp depth. So? Is it not possible to bring Tizen's UI with 16 bit depth?

What do you mean "it works fine only with 16bpp depth"? What are the consequences of 24 or 32bpp depth?

I apologize for not being clear.
When the depth was set as 24, the graphics looked like solarized and still no UI showed up.
Then I set the depth as 16 and connected a mouse through USB Hosting. When I right click, I can see 4 buttons "Volume Up", "Volume Down", "Home" and sorry i forgot one more button's text. When I clicked Volume Up button, I was able to see a dialog with volume slider but this dialog was cropped and displayed beyond the resolution. I presume the resolution has not fixed for 480x800. I will post some pics on this later.
Need some more time for me to know about X Window system / Composite Window Manager. Info#1 Info#2

Tried to boot the latest image of Tizen (LINK) but it looks like DEVTMPFS is not enabled in the kernel. Tried with the latest kernel as well but unable to load /dev. Need to modify the kernel and compile it.

After several tries and reworks still the screen remains black and with mouse pointer. But the mouse pointer is moving when a mouse connected to usb host and with touchscreen events as well. Anyone can suggest. Here is my xorg.config

Tizen 1.0 was able to boot till the Enlightenment window showed up using emulfb driver and touch screen working fine. Unfortunately the Enlightenment window stopped unexpectedly. As of now I am not able to track down the issue.
Have a look into the screenshot

Just release it and the source
Making an English version would be a necessity, further translations can be done if anyone cares to translate it.
What programming language is it written in? I've started dusting off a similar project I'd been working on since ComplexMind is on hiatus with his "My Android Manager". I think if we can build a consolidated pc interface it would help out the community a lot. Open the source and I'm sure you'll have people beating a path to your door to help out.
VB.NET, i am plannig release source bot not yet... Wow, i never hear about My Android Manager but i checked now and I can stop develop this utility

I thought it looked like VB. You can definitely add me to the list of people interested in helping develop this further. My Android Manager hasn't moved for about a month. At least around here, that's quite a while. I've not worked much on localization before but dynamically labeling based on an indexed data file shouldn't be too hard. Do you currently use any sort of db storage or is strictly a command line wrapper at this point?

I wouldn't say it sucks, but it is incomplete. Since the source is closed on it though we're at the whim of ComplexMind to fix things.
looking great! nice idea
but MAM have a "little thinks" about which i am thinkink "i must have in own app" such as phone detection and cmd output to gui.
Now I am using strictly defined commads and link library with functions for convert rgb565 to others usable formats. In future, i want make simple db with commands for easy updates and edits... And MUI is easy to implement, but need more time (work, work, work in IT is hard :-D )

Your time frames are your own, but around here people loose interest fast if things stop happening. My first thought with a back end db is that each control could be indexed and then captioned during a splash screen process for simple localization. Maybe crude, I'm not a professional programmer, but I think it would work. A quick Google search popped up a sample for capturing command line output. It would need a little work to adapt but I can see where it's going.
Code:
Dim CMD As New Process
Dim SW As System.IO.StreamWriter
Dim SR As System.IO.StreamReader
CMD.StartInfo.FileName = "cmd"
CMD.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False
CMD.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = True
CMD.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True
CMD.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True
CMD.Start()
SW = CMD.StandardInput
SR = CMD.StandardOutput
SW.WriteLine("ping www.google.com")
CMD.Dispose()
SW.Dispose()
Do Until SR.EndOfStream = True
TextBox1.Text &= SR.ReadLine
TextBox1.Text &= Environment.NewLine
Loop
SR.Dispose()
i tried write a hundreds lines of code for creating nice shell output... even this but not works good

I'll see if I can find some time to package this up as a class module and test it out. I'm watching the baby today so time is not my own. I think parsing the output would definitely be the tricky part. Then of course making that output useful.
2ben... your code have 2 big minus 1) when start command, application totaly freeze and waiting to command end 2) text output is writed after command ended better is System.Diagnostics.Process.Start
i'm fairly proficient in .net. looking forward to helping out. open up the source. better move on it quick though, these guys move fast.

I think the "EndOfStream" property is not capturing correctly for some reason. It kept freezing for me when I first tried it. I've just about got it wrapped up in a module so the output is continually cached until the class is released. I'll try to post it soon, once it's working on my end that is.
i like this a lot. Looking good and willing to test. Can we have an English version though?

I've successfully isolated the problem to the read stream not having the expected endofstream characters. I've not resolved a workaround though... yet.

Q: smallest available Windows Mobile phone ???

I need a second phone, I want it to have windows mobile, and I want it very very small.
Requirements: small size, touchscreen, small size, windows mobile, and small size
Any suggestions ???
Thanks !!
PS: It MUST be VERY small
Go to this page, and input your desired specifications. Hit "Start", and look at the results. In my test search for a device like the one you requested, I checked "Mini Device", set "Operating System" to "Windows CE", checked the box that says "Integrated Cellular Phone", and set "Pos. Device" to "Touchscreen". Searching with those terms should return devices that match what you want. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Actually that was the last page in my browser before hitting the "new thread" button here @ the "ole trusted" xda-devs forums
Yes, tech specs can be compared there, but the in-hand feel of a given device is somehow subjective (slim and not tall, but wide, vrs a small foot print front-looking thicker device, etc), so I wanted to hear some user oppinions
Thanks anyway !!
Will keep searching, and will take your advice regarding those parameters
I think the HTC Niki was quite small with a 2.6" screen, but the sliding keyboard might make it a bit fat.
Isn't the Diamond 1 small enough???

Yes, it definitely is the smallest one. Unfortunately also regarding the battery. With 900mAh it is way to little.
the diamond 1 is a very good device and its small the only thing bad about it is the crap CPU , it become hot when charging or playing with the phone and its also slow, in other word 528mhz FAKE
HTC Touch Cruise 09 is also the best qvga windows mobile out there
Pantech has a tiny phone
I think the Pantech Matrix Duo is a tiny WinMo phone, about the smallest I've seen, but I'm also pretty sure that it's not touchscreen. You can see more on it at the AT&T site, which is where I found it at.
thanks to all for your suggestions and comments
Maybe the Neonode N2 is the smallest one? Last week i saw a new one at ebay.de from a powerseller for 69,90€ (buy it now). It has a 2" touchscreen.

Japp I think so, because this is what you can read on several pages:

Sorry if it's been asekd but...

T9 on keyboard. Has there been a cab for it anywhere? Looking for something like what is used on the Blackstone (Touch HD). Can't seem to find anything on that side of the river so can anyone help / advise please?

Why? Cus it's missing certain things (like the keypad), it's got a couple of bugs in it... like error messages asking to send info to Microsoft (see here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639799) and also the blummin rotation thing seems to stick on portrait when i want landscape! That aside, i'm impressed
Oh, one more thing i don't like about it (though there is a way round it as always!)... tomtom... the TG01 cannot directly use it's built in gps! you have to get a 3rd party app to link in conjunction with it! You don't get issues like that on the Diamond or Blackstone do ya!
About the error you get ^_^
I have 2 TG01 devices and i did'nt get such an error ever.
But If I am not mistaken gwes.exe is actually the application that monitors your touch screen.
I also ran into some post that refered the error to the screen sensitivity (calibration) and also to the time you actually press the screen (on the same place)-it makes the CPU usage to hit the 40%+ some even talked about 80% in extreme cases...
did it also stay after hard reset/Rom flash?
if so when does it happen to you exactly?

Well, it normally happens when the unit has gone into hibernation mode or if you put it into 'sleep' unsing the power button and then wake it back up later on. I've just had it happen again about 5 mins ago. After that, it got really odd. Every time i pressed the power button, it 'flashed' the screen back on and then went off. This happened about 5 times. In the end, i had to pull the battery and restart. Weird.
As for flashing a rom, if there was a WWE ship out there, it'd be on it right now mate cus this Orange rom is garbage. Sadly, to my knowledge, there isn't one available... or is there?

Warning: If the app isn't working, just drop me an email or post the problem here, you don't need to rate the app with 1 star and comment like: "The app isn't working". Thanks for the support
Now you can have all the XDA TV videos wherever you go using this application. Now on your phone, if you have a tablet you should get it here, also you can get the "normal theme" version here.
As many of you have seen, the tablet application got an update, featuring a new feed(that is hosted on my own server), description text and a poster image for each video. I'm now working to bring all of this to the phone version, so stay tuned. Maybe later today it will be finished
I've been working on this for a week. Making the layout using HTML and CSS3 was easy, but I got a lot of problems while trying to make the code work on Android, so I took a bit more to match the code for Android. At the time I can't find another way to open up the videos without firing up the browser to redirect to the Video application, the OS has a lot of problems with HTML5 Video tag so I've done it like this.
The technologies used on this application:
PhoneGap
iScroll
jQuery
HTML5 and CSS3

Hi, don't know if this is just me but the app doesn't work for me. I get no response when i click on the icon. I am running a DHD with CM7 in case that helps. I'll give the normal verion a go now and see if that works.
EDIT: I uninstalled and installed the 'normal' phone version, i get a bit further: a black screen and then an application error "THe connection to the server was unsuccessful. (file:///android_asset/www/index.html)"
Hope that helps?

First Problem: I'm trying to solve this. Strangely PhoneGap is having bugs to work on some ROMs.
Second Problem: That means the app took too long to contact the server(usually because your connection is slow at the time). Just try again and it might work.

I've tested this on both and I had no problem with it on my Galaxy S, Droid and Touch Pro2(Froyo).

Thanks for looking into it, I seem to be having problems with the ' normal' phone version too. Let me know if there is anything you need to know, or if you want some testing done.

I have the same problem as in the "EDIT:" above...
The "The connection to the server was unsuccessful. (file:///android_asset/www/index.html)" problem will be rolling out tomorrow, since it's a server fix and I'll only have time to do it tomorrow, this is happening because your connection might be slow and the app is trying to fetch the entire XDA TV library(all the episodes since the first one), which is causing timeouts. The solution will be to remove the very very old episodes, making the list smaller and reducing the problems with timeouts.
A new version of the app might come out later that will support reading the "old archive", which will be created tomorrow.
PS: I'm having tests this week on the university, plus I need to work, so I'm not having much time to develop
Thanks, will await the fix

Just pushed the server-side fix. I'll be working to replace the black screen on the opening with a fancy splash screen
The feed doesn't seem to be updating on this app. Been checking it for a bit now and it doesn't update while there are newer episodes out. The last one showing on this app is "Nexus, Ice Cream Sandwich, and a Contest to win an HTC Amaze 4G", which is a bit outdated. Anyone else having this problem?
-Mike
Sorry, I've been working hard and also trying to completely redesign the XDA TV app so I can't update the feed, but I'll try to do it today.
Sorry

Mini-Guide Adb installation and usage

How to run ADB on Windows for the MediaPad X2 ( and probably other Huawei devices ) :
* Windows: Download the HiSuite from Huawei ( for the adb drivers )
http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/
* Windows: Download the adb 15 second installer ( and install with admin level )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
* Smartphone/Tablet: Set your device to USB debug mode
- Go to Setting - About Phone
- Press 7 times on the Build number until you see a message that you have access to the developer options
- Go to Setting - Developer options
- Enable "USB debugging"
* Windows: Run the abd command
- Search for cmd, right click and select "Run as Administrator"
or
- Go to c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe, right click and "Run as Administrator"
* CMD box:Enter the following commands:
- cd c:\adb
- run the command you need.
For instance to change the DPI for your phone / smartphone:
- adb shell wm density 280 ( or whatever number you need. The X2 runs at 400, the Sony Z Ultra runs at 320 ).
Reboot your device after making changes
Hi. Any way to get the drivers alone, without installing all hisuite?
Thx
Can you post some screen shots of the X2 running in 280dpi please ?
What the advantages of changing the dpi ? is it you can get more on the screen ?
Is it possible to change dpi using an app and could it be set on a "per app" basis ?
I don't want to screw up EMUI
Thanks
Mark

The dpi changes can always be undone. So you are not going to screw up EMUI.
Here are some pictures that ajsmsg78 posted:

You gain about 60% more content on your screen in Chrome etc... At 400 ( default ) dpi, the X2 its screen content is nothing but a oversized smartphone. With 280dpi, its a tablet with way more usable area.
At first i also doubted if it was worth the effort, because it took me a long time to figure out all the steps. That is why i wrote this manual, so its way more easy for other people. Will it screw up EMUI, yea, for a part:
The new installed program icon's will have a green area. The basic 5x5 will not change size with the new DPI ( because Hauwei is so stupid as to hardcode the grid size around the 400 dpi ). But you can use any other launcher instead of the EMUI launcher. I kind of like Action 3 ( Action launcher 3.5 ) as a replacement.
The few disadvantages are really few, compared to the massive gains you get. The Sony Z Ultra was running in 320dpi and still had chrome in smartphone mode ( no tabs etc ). 280dpi on the Sony's 6.4" was not feasible. But on this 7" X2, 280dpi is the perfect size and it opens up several programs there tabled mode.

Make sure you check these threads daily. A lot of stuff gets posted that you may not have seen and then the same questions get asked over and over again. You could even start a new thread in the Q&A section asking for someone to post pictures of what the phone looks like at 280dpi. You'd probably get a faster response if you did that. It makes it easier to look through each thread if we all keep the topic about what the original post was about. :good:
Thanks very comprehensive answer
I want to set my dpi to 280 now but can't without access to my laptop
Will have access to computer in a few days and will do it then
The X2 has to be connected to the lap top

Wow! Something new to think about! I assumed that you saw MORE content on the display because the display is bigger. But now I understand that's not the case. If you do what's on the instructions that Benjiro figured out does that void the warranty?

Help
So I followed the steps to a T and was able to get my booloader unlocked. But now with the Rooting I can't seem to find my device. It finds it with Fastboot but not adb. I've tried 3 different computers and usb cords with the same results. I just want to root this, any adb advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm getting can't find device.

I get the same "cannot find device" error but ADB still works. Try the commands and see if they work. Or update your Android Platform tools to the newest version.
Hi!
Thanks for the guide!
Is there a way to fix the navbar disappearing in horizontal mode? When I hold the X2 in landscape mode the Navbar is still there (a black stripe) but the Back/Home/Recent Apps Buttons are missing. Tried several DPI settings.
EDIT!
For some reason it works now! The navbar is now on the right side of the screen when in landscape mode! I switched DPI several times one after another (280, 320, 400, 330, 300, 280, 320 something like that) and rebooted and somehow it works (320DPI).
But there is one big problem: the famous and extremely useful keyboard "Swiftkey" becomes totally unusable below 400 dpi.
A big disappointment more on this X2 ....
No problem if you change dpi via the kangvip menu
For this install AJ's B211 Rom
