Have we heard anything regarding GTA III getting full Xperia Play optimization? I mean, we have two joysticks right there and the game doesn't use them, when the original game used dual joysticks.
Any word?
definetly +1
Oh it uses them alright, just poorly.
I'd LOVE to see them use it right though. Moving with dpad instead of analog, and having to center the camera instead of just aiming correctly is lame as hell.

I suggest you contact Rockstar Support here and complain (nicely!). I opened a support ticket with them and explained to them that I purchased the game b/c I saw that the phone was "supported" and I interpreted that to mean that there is full support for the Play's PS controller. I also suggested that they let me map the buttons as I see fit, like the PC versions. I also suggested that they could let us use the volume up/down buttons as the second set of L triggers or onscreen softkeys for the second set, and we could replicate the PS2 controls perfectly.
I got them to admit after a couple of replies back and forth with them that the game does not fully support the Play's controller. It's not public, but my support request # is 157050, you may want to mention it in your ticket, in order to show them that people other than me are interested in this. In the end they said they forwarded my request to the development team. I doubt they'll actually fix it unless more people complain.
Not to change subject at all, but Are you guys even actually able to use these damn touch-pad-thinggies?lol. I have tried in Shadowgun, GTA III, & Modern Combat 2, & some others games but its hard for me! Especially the games that have shooting. Maybe its only me ,but I feel the touchpads are the weakest part of the controllers design. I think they are a good start for 1st PS phone ,but I hope they are replaced by something else in the next model.

Shadowgun would be a good example of how developers screw up touchpad usage. When they're used correctly, they feel very nice.

Agreed, Fifa 12 is a good example on how good they are, I think Rockstar put very minimal support in... don't know.

The problem is that devs are just mapping analog thumbstick style controls to them, which DOES NOT WORK without being able to start moving from a true center position. Dead Space does it right with aiming controls that work more like a touch screen. It doesn't start spinning left just because you touched it slightly to the left of center; instead, it considers your initial point of contact to be the virtual center. Then, it moves proportionally at the speed you move and stops when you stop, like a mouse or touchpad on a laptop. Unlike the poor controls in so many other apps, it doesn't continue moving in a direction until you "let go" or the virtual stick. It just works. Try Shadowgun on a tablet and you'll see that the touch screen controls work almost exactly like that, but even they did the stupid "map like an analog stick" method on their Xperia PLAY "optimization."
I agree: Battlefield Bad Company 2 is MADDENINGLY BAD!
Try now, it just got updated with much better controls!
Still no touch pads, but at least the rest of the buttons are more in line now.

When I try to play a Polar Bit game like Wave Blazer or Asphalt HD, etc., the controls are completely out of control. Other games like NFS Shift, and the Gangster games from Gameloft, appear as if they will load, then half the screen has ghost like cars and people.
Is this something that will clear up with Gingerbread or will we likely have to wait for Honeycomb (which I have read has been written for the Motorola tab with almost identical hardware to our G pads) ?
Has anyone found any games besides Angry Birds that res up properly to a 10 inch screen ?
Thanks in advance.
I could actually be the game, or a firmware issue or both. Some games work fine, some do not probably as they coded for a smaller phone screen that's in portrait mode by default.
I wouldn't recommend this tablet for gaming, yet. Too many issues that may not be worked out until the app makers start developing for tablets. You could also call CS to complain, so that way they know it's an issue (I've done this a few times, myself).

Not sure I agree that the G is not good for gaming. Angry Birds, Mini Squadron, Steambirds, Quake series, PSX and the down the road releases of Dreamcast and N64 emus have no equal with Tegra 2.
If solely for Android games and especially Gameloft games, 100% agree.
I used to think the sensor was screwed up in the tablet. More I play with things the more I believe it is the way the games were coded. They were not made to work on a tablet in landscape mode. Some developers did a better job then others and may have thought ahead.
Raging Thunder is a good example. Raging Thunder 1 has to be driven with the tablet sideways. Raging Thunder 2 works fine. Seems to me something may have been learned about how things should be coded between game 1, and game 2.
If the G sensor was bad no game would ever work. Since there are games that do work I tend to lean towards the game being broken, and not the sensor in the tablet.

I can't wait til the N64 and dreamcast emus.
Labyrinth works perfect so I'm convinced its the games themselves
I wouldn't recommend it for gamers yet because some games don't work. But agree that, when they do work, they work very well. Angry Birds, for example, is a game I almost wish didn't work.
But since it's hit or miss, it's not something I would recommend to a gamer. I figure that this will work itself out as more Tegra 2 devices are released.
I just figured that some of the games i saw working on the galaxy tab in the vzw should be working on this tablet as well but there were some issues with them not working. anyway i hope can create a database of games that work well somwhere on the forums and sticky it

For me, using an Xperia X10 and Advent Vega (Tegra 2) Banjo-Kazooie runs smoothly.
But Super Mario 64 runs too fast! I asked yongzh (the developer) to add a framelimiter, so hopefully it'll be implemented soon.
I'm amazed at this, especially after looking at how hard development of alternative N64 emulators has been.
E.g. http://forums.ngemu.com/misc-n64-discussion/139653-porting-mupen64plus-android.html
Nice! Says it's incompatible with my device (ZTE Blade) tough, no love for ARMv6?
have to try on my huawei u8800/ideos X5
that looks pretty impressive.
I wonder how it'll run on a Xoom...
I plays really good, I found mariokart to run a bit faster than it should and Killer Instinct was playing really well but the menu screen came out larger than it should. Lucky I remember what the options were.
Wow, Majora's Mask, on my SGS.. Oo And, it is too fast !! Desactivate frameskip helps, and it's more smooth, but sound keeps emulated too fast...
Updates will be great, results are really impressive !!
Screen is stretched, i know that Glide plugin on PC helps to do a true widescreen... Could be great to adapt it !

I'll go try it out real quick, so far I've only used it on my HTC Droid Incredible and Droid X, works great on both of those.
Edit: It runs really smooth and looks pretty good, it seems like .n64 files run smoother than .z64 files anyone else noticed this?
Well legend of zelda oot run almost perfectly on my atrix except in the beginning cutscenes of the game the sound glitched a bit but the frame rate was still good. But when I tried to get the sword in the beginning the screen turned black but the scound is current still playing perfectly. I dont really care about the imperfections with this emulator I just can believe one finally got released for android and how well it works.
Edit:
Apparently when I went to get the sword in the beginning my screen went black but the sound still worked. Still the creators did an awesome job worth it.
Zelda oot:
I think it was a random glitch cause i am now at the duko tree and no lag so far.
Edit again:
it happened again. Something is causing the video to go out and turn the screen black otherwise perfect frame rate for zelda oot
Super Mario Kart:
The game menu it self plays perfectly but when im try to keep the accelorator(forward movement) going, steering the kart and fire an object on the touch screen it seems to freak out. It makes it when i press A it only accelerates for a bit then stops then I have to repress a to start again.
1080 SnowBoarding(Love this game):
I tried playing 1080 snowboarding it ran perfectly till i tried playing a level then it just froze.
Goldeneye:
I just finished playing the first level of goldeneye on agent. It ran almost perfectly. There were a few spots of lag but over all goldeneye is not ment for this controller set up. But again there were no major hicups with game. I was able to complete a the first mission.

Ive sent him an email (his email address is in the market)
EDIT: He´s answered my mail and said that it would be possible to make it compatible on ARMv6 devices but he doesn´t wanna do it because he has tested it on his htc legend and said that it was very choppy and he doesn´t wanna get bad ratings in the market because of ppl who expect the emu to run at fullspeed on devices with insufficent hardware. So I guess we´re out of luck.

anyone here also using their hd2 to play n64oid?
mines runs like 2-4 games perfectly but the rest the sound is horrible and it lags sometimes like starfox, mario kart, zelda oot & mm, etc... is it cause i have the first gen of snapdragon cpu??? i have to set the frameskip to 10 and autoframe skip to get good gameplay but only on a few.
never the less this is awesome i cant wait till after some more updates 1.1 is already out =D
What rom should i attach the game to? I have never heard of having to do this.

Banjo-Kazooie has some graphical glitches though it has always been a problematic game to emulate if memory serves me right. Also FPS could be better in many places despite the intense frameskip going on (HTC Vision at 1.5 GHz)
Yep, Banjo Kazpoie has some issues with graphics in emulation. But its still fully playable on my Fascinate, almost near full speed.

Those were the original controls:
You use the main analog stick to move Bond around, and you use the L button and the main analog stick combined to aim your weapon and lock the camera on a certain position. B is to reload, A to switch weapon, Left and Right C to Strafe, Up and Down C to look up or down, Z to use weapon, R is the same as L.

Maybe B to ZL, A to ZR, C buttons to a,b,x,y, Z to R?
Or C buttons to the right analog stick, a to b, b to y? (Maybe Z to a, if it doesn't work well on R?)

I think they gonna fix everything when they officialy support Xperia Play, I am sure that it's going to happen becouse the controls are already working for it.
But right now it looks like game wasn't graphicly optimised for it at all, if you look at graphics, the randering is wrong and looks ugly, you can see pixels, there's random lag spikes, no shadows, there are no lights on vehicles, and drew distance is wrong, there's lag from raining, there are very small amout of cars in the streets.
Xperia Play can handle it I am sure, they just need to optimise it first.
So lets get on Rockstars nervs And when they are on it once they just can just give us GTA Chinatown Wars to (lets dream)

Hey so I just seen on this market pretty bad compatibility for a lot of devices it seems, the data download is choppy and the audio is reportedly out of sync for SOME devices other devices just find the game to laggy.
Having tried it myself i find it very choppy Xperia Play controls work fine for me, although other users are reporting problems, this could be down to bad downloads/ custom roms.
Not to mention it's like over a year late, guess its in preparation for episode II

I just bought Sonic 4 on my old Droid x and then tried the apk on my Xperia PLAY and I can tell you right now that the controls most certanly work. The menus are all touch but the game itsef supports the controls, not the touchpads but the directional pad works great.
I've been playing it a bit now, and must admit I did find a few bits of lag going on :-( but all the controls work find, and tilting on certain bits is loads of fun!!
I'm not overclocking so maybe if I pop SetCPU up to 1.4 or 1.6 it may stop the lag.

That is interesting... that means Sega was actively working on making this compatible with the Xperia PLAY this whole time.
...that brings me back to why the hell they'd make this any less than fully available day 1. It's not like they couldn't expect us to figure them out.
I recently found OnLive, a cloud based gaming app that is on multiple platforms, including android. At the moment, they have titles such as Assasins Creed II and Brotherhood, SplinterCell Conviction, Homefront, and many others. Their volume isnt as big as Valve's Steam, but it has been recognized by the Steam community.
Some basic pros:
-No need to download your games, their on the cloud.
-Their game selection is expanding.
-You can play a demo before you buy.
-No fee for having an account, but there is one for a membership.
-Analogs are compatible on the PLAY.
Some cons:
-You cant play offline.
-You have too keep up with your bills to play.
-No mods in games.
-Less variety of games compared to steam (which doesnt support android).
-Games are about retail price moat of the time.
- A lot of data is used streaming your game.

I love using onlive, one because its all cloud gaming...so I can play most of my games on my pc and then if I'm going somewhere and it has wifi (I rarely use my data *only 2 gb.a month*) then I can continue where I left off....or if I'm planning iny from.my pc to my laptop.
The only thing I dislike about the Play and onlive is the lack of L3 and R3 physical buttons OR touch screen buttons, and for most of my games, like Dues ex and AvP, it gets hard to play....but the play is Awesome for.Assassins creed games, (I've got 2 and brotherhood) and orcs must die....I think the only mistake I've made is buying dawn of war 2 when i first found onlive 3 months ago...
But the advantage is that you can always find other players for multiplayer games ( Homefront ftw, even though I don't have it, I'm.waiting for somekind of sale where it will be at or below $10....which is when I have bought my games lol)

It drove me to buy the OnLive console(which kicks ass), but on Xperia Play I'd always thought it suffered from input lag.
Recently upgraded our router to something newer/more oriented towards gaming and now the input lag is drastically decreased; it's actually quite practical now! What I also like is that I don't always have to be confined to WiFi. In places where I have a good HSPA+ connection, I can play without being bound to a router! It's no replacement for having games that can be played without an active internet connection, but being able to play full-blown Assassin's Creed games and the REAL Street Fighter IV:AE make this quite a winner for me.
My one persisting qualm is the L2/L3/R2/R3. There is absolutely no L3/R3 whatsoever, and L2/R2 takes over the volume buttons. What they really need to do is just have L2/L3/R2/R3 as virtual touch buttons near the bottom of the screen.
If you get it, check out a lesser-known game called A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda. Amazing game!
Damned .on my country,to hard connected to onlive . . .really damn

It drove me to buy the OnLive console(which kicks ass), but on Xperia Play I'd always thought it suffered from input lag.

Yeah, I agree with you on the R and L 3 buttons. I wish for some games though that we had the ability to flip the l2 l, r2, and the l1and r1 buttons/triggers around.....I sent onlive an email about that at the end of march and they said they would look into it.

It works really great for me. But i'm not able to buy anything. It says that it's not available in my country, but demos works really well.

Works great for me.
BUT:
- A lot of games are too dark.
- A lot of games are unsuitable for the Play's buttons. ie. they need more.
- A lot of games don't suit a small screen. For example, the ball in Virtua Tennis is tiny & moves too fast for small, handheld gaming.
The controls suck basically, mainly because of the lack of l2, r2, l3, r3. The touchpads are also quite crap for these games :/

Only thing the app lacks on the play is l3 and r3...the l2 and r2 are.mapped to the volume up and down respectively...and the touchpads are meant ad analog sticks heh..imo, the assassins creed titles are.the best suited for the play.

from the preview I saw, it definitely beats gamelofts 2.5d ds-ish port. Yes, I bought a console hit for my former DS, and regretted it again after getting CoD4, so horrible.
So the general theme is thatyou have to have fairly good Wi-Fi to enjoy w/o lag. Also, is it true that OnLive's servers go down from time to time, I've heard things like this on other forums and want to confirm whether or not it is common. I want to try i .t, but I want to know that it is convenient before I attach my identity to anything else and forget.

I've only ever disconnected from onlive when my internet has effed up....you have to have a marginally good wifi to have it look good, but onlive normally tells you first if you have connection issues. And you can.use aCC or DC to buy a game and then delete the card off your account, so nothing is permanent.

OnLive : input lag
Persistent Input Lag
*my internet speed is 105mpbs/10mpbs
*have tried 3 wireless N routers (no channels overlapping)
-playing Street Fighter is grueling
-playing Batman is ok.
=I really wish it worked without the lag.
{EDIT} as a top edit I'd like to remind people that your connection no matter how fast will still create input lag in your games. That's a server issue cause by how the data / input is sent and received. If you want more info on it, check into NVIDIA and GAI KAI. Gai Kai has better visuals but the frame rate for some reason takes a dive...
{/EDIT}
I've used the system since August, and I'm a happy customer!
At first the visuals were very muddy looking (arkham city looked really bad) but after the following update the devs must have changed something because the colors are more vibrant.
The control lag is passable, even when playing some pretty intense games. I have split second on there (and the play pack) and I've gotten numerous 1st place trophies once I got used to the latency. It's not bad at all it's just not perfect because it's not 1:1 (it's really close though).
When I got it in august of last year I thought to myself "boy I wish this had xperia play support" and what to my surprise not a week later I didn't have to use the game keyboard lol
Here's my pros and cons in a TLR
PRO's
-you're playing PC-quality games on your phone
-full Xperia Play optimized (even the volume buttons count as the shoulder buttons though it is a little awkward)
-hundreds of games to choose from and recent ones
-the price point of some games is astounding. I got a few games for only $2 you just need to look at sales frequently.
-graphics have improved dramatically since I've used the service
-the lag in controls is passable (more in CON's)
-you can view other people playing the game and there's a FREE 30 min trial with almost every game
-did I mention it's PC games on your phone?
CON's
-you can't play any 2k games on the phone right now (no bioshock, borderlands)
-the lag in FPS's is tough. Even games like splinter cell where you have to aim your gun in a tight spot it's tricky. Possible but it's a pain when it's not 1:1. I couldn't even play FEAR 2 or 3 it was death up the butt
-battery drain LOL
right there's really not many bad things about it. However the release date for the games varies though Batman: AC came out pretty soon after it's actual release.
Also Wifi and LTE are preferred and I didn't put it as a con because for me I can play on 3G as well. It's fast enough in my area, I'd use speed test to see if it is fast in your area. If you're speed test can consistently hold around 150+ KBps then you're golden.
Borderlands is on onlive lol...
The assassin's creed games are perfect for the play. Only con I have is lack of l3 and r3 buttons, even on the screen would be fine.
