Accelerometer issues - G Tablet General

When i try to play certain games the accelerometer is totally wonky and doesnt work right AT ALL. i was wondering if this is a hardware issue that can never be fixed, a firmware issue or a kernel issue... any ideas?

Yeah, same peroblem here

When I try to play a Polar Bit game like Wave Blazer or Asphalt HD, etc., the controls are completely out of control. Other games like NFS Shift, and the Gangster games from Gameloft, appear as if they will load, then half the screen has ghost like cars and people.
Is this something that will clear up with Gingerbread or will we likely have to wait for Honeycomb (which I have read has been written for the Motorola tab with almost identical hardware to our G pads) ?
Has anyone found any games besides Angry Birds that res up properly to a 10 inch screen ?
Thanks in advance.

I could actually be the game, or a firmware issue or both. Some games work fine, some do not probably as they coded for a smaller phone screen that's in portrait mode by default.
I wouldn't recommend this tablet for gaming, yet. Too many issues that may not be worked out until the app makers start developing for tablets. You could also call CS to complain, so that way they know it's an issue (I've done this a few times, myself).

Not sure I agree that the G is not good for gaming. Angry Birds, Mini Squadron, Steambirds, Quake series, PSX and the down the road releases of Dreamcast and N64 emus have no equal with Tegra 2.
If solely for Android games and especially Gameloft games, 100% agree.

I used to think the sensor was screwed up in the tablet. More I play with things the more I believe it is the way the games were coded. They were not made to work on a tablet in landscape mode. Some developers did a better job then others and may have thought ahead.
Raging Thunder is a good example. Raging Thunder 1 has to be driven with the tablet sideways. Raging Thunder 2 works fine. Seems to me something may have been learned about how things should be coded between game 1, and game 2.
If the G sensor was bad no game would ever work. Since there are games that do work I tend to lean towards the game being broken, and not the sensor in the tablet.

I can't wait til the N64 and dreamcast emus.

Labyrinth works perfect so I'm convinced its the games themselves

I wouldn't recommend it for gamers yet because some games don't work. But agree that, when they do work, they work very well. Angry Birds, for example, is a game I almost wish didn't work.
But since it's hit or miss, it's not something I would recommend to a gamer. I figure that this will work itself out as more Tegra 2 devices are released.

I just figured that some of the games i saw working on the galaxy tab in the vzw should be working on this tablet as well but there were some issues with them not working. anyway i hope can create a database of games that work well somwhere on the forums and sticky it

What Android Marketplace really needs most: Quality Games

That is the only thing I miss about my iPhone (Android ftw though). The games are so damn good on it.
Look at this upcoming one:

I absolutely love my Nexus but the games aren't up to par. I wanna try some of the new Gameloft games but I was told that because of the multitouch limitations that the N1 has they are terrible to play.
The only games I need is pocket empires and what a doodle, I am addicted to both

the problem with gameloft games is the very bad optimization not the multitouch

may be it has a lot of settings but i don't have a WII to try
its been proven that nexus one has multitouch problems so it doesnt matter what games. Games that have a joystick and action button on the bottom will not work with multitouch on the nexus one. Maybe if one is on the bottom and on at the top they would work
I'm playing at Heavy Gunner 3d actually, it have both controls at bottom of the screen and they work very well togheter on froyo, probably it was a broblem on Eclair. i've never found problems on gameloft games too (excluding optimization)
Asphalt is a money racing game.
with move2SD now activated in Froyo, why aren't the big game company making more quality Android games... so far gameloft, com2us, polarbit, deckeleven have done pretty well with their games, but we need more games...

perhaps because it's been only what a week? they need time to develop games for the android.
I'd like to see an MMO on android.

Where are the games?

So I've had my phone for a couple weeks now, I was hearing all this buzz about how awesome Android is now and how far it's come so I just took the plunge. The phone has been fun to use and explore as far as widgets are concerned etc... but if I would ever make this my full time device it would have to do everything that my other phone (iPhone4) does. This brings me to the games... so far on the market all I've seen are pretty shoddy looking atari or nintendo looking games, where are all the graphically intensive and/or beautifully designed games in the market? How do I find games that actually take advantage of the GPU in my phone (Galaxy S)?
Gameloft has bunch of 3D games like Avatar and Assiasin's Creed for Android on their website, I can't post links so just google it or go to Gameloft.com and go to their Android section.
Also, emulators

Why don't you go buy a dumb flip phone and supplement it with a PDA? Oh, maybe because you want one device to do multiple things? Imagine that. With phones like the Epic out, phones are starting to pack some pretty nice GPUs - you shouldn't dismiss gaming just like that.
To the OP: Check out Gameloft's stuff like someone else mentioned, they really are top of the line, but they refused to list their games in the marketplace. SNESoid, NESoid can run SNES/NES games. There's also some decent paid games in the Marketplace, you can usually find a demo or Lite version to try. With more people flocking to Android, more developers will start creating fleshed out games other than Bejweled clones (hopefully).

I wonder why people say garbage like oh get a PSP if you want to play games, Or if you want to use a navigation system get a gps, etc. I for one buy a device so I can do it all with one device. Or else I wouldn't buy it. End of point.
oh if you want a phone buy a land line phone instead it works better??? Logical I think not!

Except Gameloft that begins to bring its Iphone hits to Android, there are few 3D games on our favorite platform.
Few days ago, I played Asphalt 5, that's not a bad game, because Gameloft proposed some free demo versions on its website (not avalaible n the market)
You can also try some good games you can find on the market like Speed forge 3D or Replica Island (not in 3D but a very good game).
At least you can try emulators (gensoid, gameboid...)

Best tool for the job is the simple summary. I for one am glad that the entire market isn't dominated by games.. With all of the porn and sound boards there wouldn't be any actual useful apps left.

[Q] 3D games that work well on Gtablet

So, my gtablet has been all hacked and custom firmwared for well.... what day did it launch? heh...
What i am really looking for is a list of 3d games that people know to scale "well" on the gtablet...
So far i have seen most 3d android games are designed for a phone, it is almost like they need to fork the android market... or atleast include in a tablet comptable option...
So if we could get a good list of confirmed 3d games that work well on the gtablet, i would be forever... well ok 15 mins grateful.
(This MAY or MAY NOT be because i am doing some research of how to do a game RIGHT on a tablet..... heh.)
Dungeon Defenders works well. There are some overlaps in the menu system due to screen size scaling, but that's being picky. It's a pretty fun game.
the 3d version of labyrinth works great on my gtab.
Rocket Bunnies works great
Turbo fly 3d works, minus the g sensor. Other than that its nice and smooth.
Also, pretty much all the polarbit apps work. Like Reckless Racing, Raging Thunder..........

Patience my friend Once Honeycomb is released, we should see more 3D games and apps that better utilize the G Tablet's Tegra 2 and hardware acceleration capabilities.

pocket legends works fine, is fun too

Emulation on the G2X

Wow this phone is fast! N64 and PS1 at full fps with sound! Almost kind of boring when you don't have to tweak a ton of settings just to make the roms playable
I've been into emulation on every device I've owned, so its how I benchmark the relative performance from one device to the next. Coming from a N900, this G2X blows it out of the water. My N900 could play SNES at full fps but turning the sound on would slow it down. The N900 could play N64 and PS1 but they were really slow at ~10fps skipping at least two or three frames without sound.
So N64 and PS1 emulators were the best I had to throw a the phone and it handles it no problem. I'd like to see what the phone can really do. Its starting to feel like this phone might be pretty close to my laptop (older 2Ghz C2D) in emulation performance; blows my mind to even think that. Is there a PS2 emulator anywhere? I read a rumor that said Nvidia might put out a PS2 emulator but I wasn't sure how true that was. I'm assuming if Nvidia puts the emulator out then it would be optimized for Tegra2 and actually use both CPU cores and the graphics chip so the games might actually run OK-ish.
If not, what is everyone else using to push the phone? I don't really care about quadrant benchmarks or anything like that.
Oh BTW, this is my first Android device so excuse the noobness of me not knowing what software exists

haha yeah its my first I've been reading about Android since it was announced and I've played with different versions on emulators and I actually had my N900 dual booting Froyo, but this is my first actual Android device. I'm a little bit of a software nerd so I like trying out different OS's. Meego, Maemo, WebOS, Palm, WinMo CE 6 and 5, Android 1.5-2.3; I've spent some time with all of them. I even lurked for a while before my join date. Not too much of a noob in general, just with the world of 3rd party software for Android.
So anyway, back on topic. Does a PS2 emulator exist for Android? What's everyone running to test out their new G2X?

And everyone should have to walk to school...five miles, through the snow, up hill...both ways.
But anyway, It really is an amazing device...much more powerful than the netbook I bought just last year. But then again, I remember just how crazy fast my home built 50MHz 486 with 512 Kb of RAM was. Amazing time to be alive...
Damn, I feel old...
No PS2 Emulator out for Android yet.
As a general rule it takes around 4 or 5 times the processing power to correctly emulate a system (give or take). The PS2 has a 128bit processor running at 300MHz with multiple coprocessors. I think we are getting close but not quite there.
Yeah I realize the G2x won't run PS2 perfectly, especially if its run completely off the CPU it might not run at all. That's why I was hoping there was more to the Nvidia PS2 emulator rumor...
Oh well, it's not like I wont have fun playing with N64 and PS1, its just too easy.
Just like older phones with SNES and other emulators, you have frame skipping and stuff to help the frame rate.
I think the PS2 is overkill but whatever.
I just think its funny that Sony is coming out with a new PSP Android phone to run PS1 games that we can already do for free using our own backups.

I've only tried N64oid and FPse, both work really well for me so far. I'm just using the onscreen controls right now. I tried to get the accelerometer working for the left dpad/stick but I still have some tweaking to do to get it the way I like it. Still, the accelerometer doesn't feel natural with these games, they weren't really designed to be controlled that way.
Id like to get one of those iControlpads, its bluetooth so it should work. It's just kinda of pricy so I'll wait to hear of other people using it with a G2X first.
speaking of slide out gamepads, I'm surprised something like This hast come out yet. It would be perfect for me.

Stick cricket and tennis are spot on!
Granny Smith is rather good. Im also playing Virtua Tennis which is decent
Although this is a great note, I am really pissed that some of the games are really pixelated and unclear I wish there was a way we could make display or resolution smaller
for games
To name about 1/2 of the games I have installed...
Angry Birds - love it on 10" of screen
aTilt 3D Labyrinth - Reminds of the real ones I had as a kid. lol, I never could make it to the end though back then!
3D Bowling - better bowling on a tablet than I am IRL If I only had an S-Pen to guide my aim in real bowling.
Crystal Defenders - life long Final Fantasy fan...
Dark Meadow - THIS perhaps is the most fun I've had on a game for a tablet.
Dead Trigger - Really is amazing what a tablet can do and I play with a PS3 controller
Eve of The Genesis - Had gotten this originally for my Epic4G but never played it. Started playing it on my tablet!
Fruit Ninja - Slicing fruit with an stylus sword! :victory:
NFS Hot Pursuit - not as good as the real game on my computer, but still looks good on the tablet.
Mass Effect Infiltrator - it was 25 cents, how could I say no? Looks good, plays well.
Monopoly - forget setting up the real board, this is the future right here!
Pac Man Championship - Sort of reminds me of the pac man arcade tables from my childhood. S-Pac-Man!
Peggle - S-Peggle!
Pinball Pro - not much to say here. it's pinball.
Pool Master - with realistic s-cue!
Quell Reflect - was free on Amazon. Puzzle game that's easy to play with the s-pen
Scrabble - had it since my Epic4G. Still works.
Shadowgun - It was free, compliments of my Galaxy SIII so I loaded it on to my tablet. Much better than playing it on the phone!
Sonic 4 Ep2 - It was free on the Samsung store. Retro gaming... Not my favorite, but it looks good graphically!
Symphony of Eternity - old school RPG that like EotG, looks good and plays decently.
Temple Run - I've heard of other devices getting lag playing this. It's lagless on the note. Decent repetitve time burner.
TurboFly - Had a pay for version for 2 years still works. There's a full free version on the Samsung store. Wipeout/FZero clone. Worth getting.
Virtua Tennis - It was free on the Samsung store. Not really a tennis fan, but still worth grabbing imo.
WIsh my gameloft games worked on the tablet, but they don't, and they refuse to assist me, so I don't buy from them anymore. Would be another 13 games I'd have to list.
some of mine:
bad piggie
angry birds space
agent dash
age of zombies
air attack hd
cytus (best music game ever!)
dead space
mass effect
eternity warriors 2
cut the rope experiments
fantasy defend
fifa12
Frontline commando
GTA3
hot persuit
judge dredd (best free 3rd person shooting game for me)
max payne
minecraft
niva
riptide
seven stars 3d
to-fu hd
Nova 3, n64oid, asphalt because it was .25c, then the basic chess, checkers, glow hockey, ping pong...
The first two are awesome and asphalt was kinda disappointing

I have many games on my tablet and most of them work well. Zapix, you have my style so you have many of the games I have; except dark meadow... It's free so I got it,
If I had to select 5 of my favourite games:
Granny Smith: It was on sale the other day
Spirit HD: Neat game, real addictive and works better with the pen than with the finger
World of Goo
ME Infiltrator
Tile Storm HD
JetPack Joyride: This requires special mention so I'll create a separate thread for this

lol, I've probably used my Note 10.1 (that I got in late August) for gaming more than I used my PSP that I got in 2007. Since I paired up PS3 controller, it's so much more fun to play games like Dead Trigger. Come to think of it, with the controller, and the adapter for HDMI out... Hmm. Nah, I'll leave my tablet gaming for tablet gaming, and consoles for the TV. Phosphor should make a Kinect version of Dark Meadow though. >.> Although I guess it would be best done on the Wii/WiiU
and now realizing I never put my NES/SNES roms on the tablet. >.>
Just in case I feel like laying around and playing Genghis Khan all day! xD

I may do that one of these days, especially if I were to pick up a 64gb card for it.
Then again, I would technically be better off playing PS1/PS2 games on my PS3 (80gb fat) on my tv...

Omg dude I love the choices, can you please add some more options .
Just got a ps3 controller, currently playing N.O.V.A. 3, GTA3, Dead Trigger,Dark Knight, Bards Tale, SNes, Fpse, etc.. also smaller games like angry birds, cut the rope, granny smith, Drawable, and so on. I wish I could play MC3 and O&C but nooo.
Sixaxis kicks ass! Although I have issues with Dead Trigger and GTA. If someone have a flawless touch profile for DT I'd appreciate it, the only thing wrong with GTA is that if I press L2 or R2 the controller no longer works, could be bug but other than that Everything works flawlessly.

Dead Trigger supports controllers natively, I have no problems with it. Just enable controllers under the settings in the game.

What are everyones favorite games for emulators such as N64oid, SNESoid, fpse, etc?
I have been loving mario kart and super smash brothers as well as star fox on N64oid.
Joe and Mac is a classic on SNES.

lol, yep it all works, Not something one expects since we're all so used to games having only touch controls. Seeing they can make native controls... Doesn't that make you wish they did that more often? xD
I just recently got Shadowgun, but really haven't played it, and I never did check if there are native controls... It's also by Madfinger though, so I'm guessing there probably are. Need more games with native controller settings!
Not sure how much if a difference it makes (I've run it on both and haven't seen any) , but if you're rooted, you can also run a little tweak to up the graphic settings from HIGH to ULTRA. I don't think I've seen any difference, but figured I'd mention it.
Here's a site explaining it.

Oh I already set graphics to ultra but thanks. But yes definitely need more games that support controllers nova would be great, I learned how to set it with the SNES emulator just a few mins ago, next I'll search to do that with fpse if its possible. I don't have shadow gun if it supports controller I may buy it. I'm running out of memory though.

I really want the n64 emulator but its ad invested, that's a petpeeve of mine. I may get some type of ad block but I'll say my fav games so far is tekken 3 (fpse), super Mario allstars (SNES) and that's it really just started out lol.
