Emulation on the G2X - T-Mobile LG G2x

Wow this phone is fast! N64 and PS1 at full fps with sound! Almost kind of boring when you don't have to tweak a ton of settings just to make the roms playable
I've been into emulation on every device I've owned, so its how I benchmark the relative performance from one device to the next. Coming from a N900, this G2X blows it out of the water. My N900 could play SNES at full fps but turning the sound on would slow it down. The N900 could play N64 and PS1 but they were really slow at ~10fps skipping at least two or three frames without sound.
So N64 and PS1 emulators were the best I had to throw a the phone and it handles it no problem. I'd like to see what the phone can really do. Its starting to feel like this phone might be pretty close to my laptop (older 2Ghz C2D) in emulation performance; blows my mind to even think that. Is there a PS2 emulator anywhere? I read a rumor that said Nvidia might put out a PS2 emulator but I wasn't sure how true that was. I'm assuming if Nvidia puts the emulator out then it would be optimized for Tegra2 and actually use both CPU cores and the graphics chip so the games might actually run OK-ish.
If not, what is everyone else using to push the phone? I don't really care about quadrant benchmarks or anything like that.
Oh BTW, this is my first Android device so excuse the noobness of me not knowing what software exists

haha yeah its my first I've been reading about Android since it was announced and I've played with different versions on emulators and I actually had my N900 dual booting Froyo, but this is my first actual Android device. I'm a little bit of a software nerd so I like trying out different OS's. Meego, Maemo, WebOS, Palm, WinMo CE 6 and 5, Android 1.5-2.3; I've spent some time with all of them. I even lurked for a while before my join date. Not too much of a noob in general, just with the world of 3rd party software for Android.
So anyway, back on topic. Does a PS2 emulator exist for Android? What's everyone running to test out their new G2X?

And everyone should have to walk to school...five miles, through the snow, up hill...both ways.
But anyway, It really is an amazing device...much more powerful than the netbook I bought just last year. But then again, I remember just how crazy fast my home built 50MHz 486 with 512 Kb of RAM was. Amazing time to be alive...
Damn, I feel old...

No PS2 Emulator out for Android yet.
As a general rule it takes around 4 or 5 times the processing power to correctly emulate a system (give or take). The PS2 has a 128bit processor running at 300MHz with multiple coprocessors. I think we are getting close but not quite there.

Yeah I realize the G2x won't run PS2 perfectly, especially if its run completely off the CPU it might not run at all. That's why I was hoping there was more to the Nvidia PS2 emulator rumor...
Oh well, it's not like I wont have fun playing with N64 and PS1, its just too easy.

Just like older phones with SNES and other emulators, you have frame skipping and stuff to help the frame rate.
I think the PS2 is overkill but whatever.
I just think its funny that Sony is coming out with a new PSP Android phone to run PS1 games that we can already do for free using our own backups.

I agree with that last part, it is pretty funny. It seems like a pretty cool phone though, I just don't buy sony.

I've only tried N64oid and FPse, both work really well for me so far. I'm just using the onscreen controls right now. I tried to get the accelerometer working for the left dpad/stick but I still have some tweaking to do to get it the way I like it. Still, the accelerometer doesn't feel natural with these games, they weren't really designed to be controlled that way.
Id like to get one of those iControlpads, its bluetooth so it should work. It's just kinda of pricy so I'll wait to hear of other people using it with a G2X first.
speaking of slide out gamepads, I'm surprised something like This hast come out yet. It would be perfect for me.

Yea i like the IcontrolPad as well, but like you said its a bit expensive.
If you don't mind not being able to hold the phone this one is great
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Retro-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo/dp/B001ULJGDU
Its the Wii retro controller with bluetooth built in, no nunchuck needed. People have used it with Blueputdroid.
I figure I can just plug the Micro HDMI into the TV and USB for power with this controller and have portable classic gaming

Nice! If anyone gets that bluetooth remote working let me know please...I would love to use some emulators using hdmi and the BT controller!
I dont have any on my phone yet cause I really dont like playing on the touchscreen...but with the controller would be sweet!

so far until someone works on the drivers or the bluputdroid dev supports the phone its not going to happen on a stock G2x rom. Ive seen it does work on CM7 roms however I haven't tried myself.
I'm half tempted to try a nightly but i like having a stable phone.
my controller should be here any day so if HDMI out is working on CM7 I will probably give it a try

I currently use a one handed bluetooth gamepad. It works with Fpse, Psx4droid, N64oid, Gameboid, Snesoid and Gensoid. Plus i have the belt clip kickstand. I just sit back on the bus or train to work and play FF7, Super Smash Brothers, Tekken Advanced, Killer Instinct and of course Sonic.

[Discussion] Is a nintendo 64 emulator possible for this phone?

Hey,
Before I get started, I just want to stop all flamers - I have searched and I couldn't find anything for this specific phone.
The specs for the nintendo 64 is a 93.75mhz processor and a 62.5mhz GPU -and people who like to call themselves "educated" in this area say that you need 10x the power to emulate something - and I reckon the HD2 has the power to do it. What do you think?
I think it would be great if this was possible, and just like the fpsece - people would donate to have this ability as we all love the goldeneye on the n64, and to be able to play that on the go would be amazing.
Thanks,

OMG good idea zelda - Ocarina of time all over again..
Love the idea and hope there is a supreme programmer around who loves the idea too..
re
it is a really nice idea, but after all a dream i guess...
remember there where some N64 emulators out, but most of them took years until the could
emulate the standard games like mario kart, mario 64 and some others, there are still many games wich dont run on the emus. The next Problem is the controller...
Perfect 64 is a great N64 emu for PCs, so it has been done well already on other platforms...
I'm going to bump this thread up a bit so it gets some attention. I would also love a n64 emulator for the htc hd2! Would be so awesome to play zelda on my phone! And I agree , I and many others would donate for such a thing.
I know some people have been working on an emulator for the iphone and this phone is much more powerful than the iphone.
You read my mind... N64 on this phone would look awesome!!! we got some genius developers out there. crossing my fingers and praying they listen...
I'd happily part cash for it!
And a FinalBurn emulator, damn my lack of programming knowledge! Where does one begin to learn such technical wizardry?!
Even if we have an emulator for N64, it will be very difficult to play games due to too many buttons for control in N64. And HD2 is not really multitouch, am I right?

Um no you are wrong . Hd2 got multitouch. And a nice button layout combined with the big screen would make it possible to play games pretty good. Atleast slow-paced games would be possible to play without much problem.
Goldeneye oder Perfect Dark on the HD2 would be magnificent!!!
the source code for project 64 is available,
http://www.pj64-emu.com/downloads/
so in theory it is possible.
Ye there are also other open-source n64 emulators out there.
Like:
1964: 1964emu.emulation64.com
Another emulator for the PC
Daedalus: sourceforge.net/projects/daedalus-n64/
Which was the first emulator to emulate n64 on the psp.
DaedalusX64: sourceforge.net/projects/daedalusx64/
Which is a continuation of the original daedalus on the psp. This is the one that currently is the best for n64 emulation on psp.
And all these are open-source. So it should be very possible, I think, to use one of these codes to write an emulator for the HTC HD2. Don't shoot me down now if I'm wrong, I'm just a noob when it comes to programing.
I wish I myself could help getting a project like this started but I know nothing about programing.
What we need are some good and dedicated programmers willing to give this a go.

I think Im not.
Multitouch on HD2 is not like iphone. HD2 only support multitouch for a couple of programs. It will be really difficult to build a n64 emulator, for action games like Zelda play smoothly with multitouch. I completed Zelda by Project64 on PC before.
Did u try emulator like Morphgear, or FpseCE? I had the supporter version of these two, multitouch really does not working so well, still some bugs and problems
No I haven't tried those emulators yet. But even though the multitouch isn't perfect it's playable, from what I understand, and they are both works in progress aren't they? You can at least play it fine if you use a bluethooth controller.
And I can't say anything about how difficult it is to build a program that supports multitouch , since I know nothing about it, but didn't the multitouch version of these emulators come out rather quickly after the hd2 was released? At least it isn't impossible to build a emulator with decent multitouch support.
We just need to get the ball rolling!

Multitouch works very well on both FPSECE and MorphGear. The only reason it isn't very good on MorphGear from the beginning, is because the standard pad sucks HD2 has a capacitive screen, and therefore it is able to use multitouch just like any other multitouch phone (iphone etc), it just requires the programmer to write the program with multitouch support, by using the code from HTC
And a N64 emulator would be awesome
What about games like Ogre Battle though? Underlying point being there are still some worthwhile games that will work well despite the lack of hardware controls and/or multitouch support...
I was searching for this!
I love the idea and would pay (just i have for FpseCE) to get this, i would love zelda on my phone
Seriosly, this is the idea of the century!
Maybe not, but it is a very good idea i would sertainly donate to whomever creates this very much appreciated emulation program!
And as someone else sad before me the multitouch works well if you just put some effort into it and program it right, i have Supporter Version of FpseCE and multitouch works well there!
fantasytozi: *Flame, flame you* Multitouch works perfectly inf FPSEce. ONly thing holding back is y-alignement problem. But multitouch works great.
All: This wont really happen. Who would start work that would take years to program on dying OS? IF there will be some emulators in future, it will be for WP7 (as emulators are best with strong HW and strong HW devices will come only for WP7. So add two years (if there is genius team of programmers) to WP7 release and you have date where first emulator could exist =)

[Request] PSX Emulator for Android

Hi guys, I was hoping we could get a project together to work on a Playstation 1 emulator for Android.
What I miss about my HD2 was FPSECE.
Something like this for us Android users (mainly snapdragon) would be awesome!
A paid app for it would be even better. (money going to whoever creates the app, not me)
Tell me your ideas on this!
+1 was thinking about this when i found at that the N900 had a PSX Emu, Chrome Broswer and Firefox :|
PSX Emu is on almost everythin except Android :/

How do you plan on controlling games?
I can't really see this being an enjoyable experience, unless you have a BT controller or something and you're sitting on a plane or bus where you can prop your phone up.
Iphone has it... wers its buttons ... as long as touchscreen buttons are correctly layed out across the screen it shud be fine. I dont find it hard to play the snes emu or any other emu on the nexus tbh
Also on the N900 they got the ps3 pad hooked up... maybe thats summet that can be done on android, now that would be...
I'm more interested in a n64 emulator myself.

Yes and was completely ignored...
this is a shame, with android becoming more and more popular, a KILLER app like this could change the tide faster. I hope some bright folks reconsider and make one.
Guys with the way the Nexus handles multi touch, PSX games would be near unplayable. Any game where you are pressing multiple buttons simultaneously will have a big problem translating over. Hell, this even applies to many of the SNES roms there.
sad news i was surprised on how well the hd2 handled it. damn do i miss playing psx on it
PSX emulator would be a waste of time, how do you expect to emulate 2 analog control sticks, 4 buttons and the R1/R2/L1/L2 buttons? Only very basic games would be playable.
Even playing PSX games on a PSP is difficult enough sometimes.

[NEWS]Nintendo DS on Android

I couldn't help posting this because i became happy when i read it...
Tiger Lab apps(nds demo emulator)
[Only open for limited days]
1. VERY EARLY PROTOTYPE VERSION(BETA) FOR DEMO ONLY
2. It is very very slow so you shall not expect to play NDS game with this emulator.
3. It is used to DEMO that NDS game can be played on android phone
It is shown that NDS WILL be played some days on android phone, maybe 2012 or later
WHAT IS NEXT WORK (Huge efforts)
1. More powerful phones
2. Dynarec CPU simulation
3. GPU simualtion improvement for speed greatly.
4. Hareware render (eg, OpenGL ES)
5. FPU. Since NDS need lots of float calculation. FPU can improvement performance greatly. Later ARM will have FPU in feature
If you do not have a high-end phone, do not try NDS game. Even if you have a high-end phone, just try some small games(none 3D) but it is also quite slow.
How to demo (not play) NDS game
1. Put your nds ROM files to /roms/nds folder in sdcard.
Note. zip nds rom is not supported, you shall extract them to be *.nds files
2. Launch TigerNDS which will load those NDS roms in game list
3. Select one game and play
It is just DEMO and speed is very very very very slow even on high-end phones. You shall not expect to play nds game with the emulator.

Might work well for the Kyocera Echo
This looks promising!
I know it's just a proof of concept currently, but why are they saying it would need new devices to run well? It seems like, since the DS and our devices are both ARM based, with some obvious modifications to run arm code natively and not emulated, you could get it running pretty well. At least that's what I had gathered from previous discussions about it.

In order to emulate a nintendo DS your phone needs to have twice the power. But to be honest I never thought the DS was too powerful... So I bet once the emulator is out of alpha it should run fine on a galaxy S. But who knows were still waiting for Zodttd to finish the N64 emulator

Of course, I am familiar with emulators and how, as a rule of thumb, your device should be 10 times more powerful to expect any sort of decent emulation. I'm just saying, maybe they can avoid emulating certain things and run native ARM DS code natively, vastly speeding it up. It would be REALLY hard though, requiring vast knowledge of ARM assembly from what I've heard. Meh, Zodttd. He should stick to iPhone imo. Android will probably get some decent open source emulators soon enough.

decent emulation takes about 5-10 times the power to emulate
and ive heard that emulating the DS is extremely difficult
as for zod i honestly doubt he is still working on that project paul seems to be the one that is on top of the project now
I'll try it out with my Atrix tonight, maybe post a youtube video. Is there a standard game we are using?
I've been trying to run a .nds file on this. The ROM is Pokemon Platinum (128mb). It's on /roms/nds and shows up in the app, however when I click on it it flashes to a black screen then goes back to the rom selection screen.

LOL!!!! That's hilarious! But that might be true too.
Sighh..
I remember the time when psp can emulate ds rom even though the frame rate per second was really low! (Average 17fps!)
I stopped using handhelds after the Gameboy Advance.. besides, it feels like all these games are the same rehash with little story change and somewhat better graphics.. there doesn't seem to be any new creative things being done in the handheld market.. so I say why bother killing your phone trying to emulate the NDS..
with that in mind, we are looking at quad-core phones by the end of 2012 for SURE, and dual-core by fall 2011 I hope, so just wait a few more months haha.
my bigger concern about emulation and games on the Android is multitouch.. even my Desire on 2.3.3 (CM7) has issues where multitouch fails, rendering even most old games unplayable (how the hell can I run and jump in Mario at the same time like the real gamepad allows.. if we wanna improve the quality of gameplay on our phones, we should push the manufacturers for better hardware that'll allow coders to provide for better multitouch capability.
just my 2 cents..
I wouldn't worry about that, bluetooth gamepads are on the way.
I use a Wiimote with classic controller for emulators at the moment.
NDS emulation can be slow even on PC, so don't expect phones to run games playable
alienhunt: more like spring 2011 for dual core.
i'll be getting a tegra2 phone in the mail next week.

Can somebody make better explanation? How high end should devices be? Would current devices (Desire, Galaxy S) be enough or do we need to wait for dual core?
Bluetooth gamepads are nice, but i think they are more like "i can do that" than really being usable. Games on the phones are meant to be played anywhere. And i don't want to carry a wiimote around with me just to play games on my phone.
I have tried several emulators on my HD2 and games are quite playable despite HD2's limit of maximum 2 touch points. Biggest problem is the feedback of the controls. You cannot feel controls, which means you can easily miss it.
I think best on screen controls would be ones that are fully customizable. Ability to move and resize controls to match your device, finger size and playing position would be killer feature.

Can somebody make better explanation? How high end should devices be? Would current devices (Desire, Galaxy S) be enough or do we need to wait for dual core?

I have a Desire, the DS games run with 3 - 7 FPS...it's ok for "100 Classic Book Collection" and thats it.

N64oid!

This is a great Nintendo 64 emulator now available on the market!
Here's the link:

For me, using an Xperia X10 and Advent Vega (Tegra 2) Banjo-Kazooie runs smoothly.
But Super Mario 64 runs too fast! I asked yongzh (the developer) to add a framelimiter, so hopefully it'll be implemented soon.
I'm amazed at this, especially after looking at how hard development of alternative N64 emulators has been.
E.g. http://forums.ngemu.com/misc-n64-discussion/139653-porting-mupen64plus-android.html
Nice! Says it's incompatible with my device (ZTE Blade) tough, no love for ARMv6?
have to try on my huawei u8800/ideos X5
that looks pretty impressive.
I wonder how it'll run on a Xoom...
I plays really good, I found mariokart to run a bit faster than it should and Killer Instinct was playing really well but the menu screen came out larger than it should. Lucky I remember what the options were.
Wow, Majora's Mask, on my SGS.. Oo And, it is too fast !! Desactivate frameskip helps, and it's more smooth, but sound keeps emulated too fast...
Updates will be great, results are really impressive !!
Screen is stretched, i know that Glide plugin on PC helps to do a true widescreen... Could be great to adapt it !
WOOHOOO!!!!!

Same here on HTC legend...maybe there's a chance it gets compatible with our phones someday...fpse also was ARMv7 only at first...would be awesome.

I'll go try it out real quick, so far I've only used it on my HTC Droid Incredible and Droid X, works great on both of those.
Edit: It runs really smooth and looks pretty good, it seems like .n64 files run smoother than .z64 files anyone else noticed this?
Well legend of zelda oot run almost perfectly on my atrix except in the beginning cutscenes of the game the sound glitched a bit but the frame rate was still good. But when I tried to get the sword in the beginning the screen turned black but the scound is current still playing perfectly. I dont really care about the imperfections with this emulator I just can believe one finally got released for android and how well it works.
Edit:
Apparently when I went to get the sword in the beginning my screen went black but the sound still worked. Still the creators did an awesome job worth it.
Zelda oot:
I think it was a random glitch cause i am now at the duko tree and no lag so far.
Edit again:
it happened again. Something is causing the video to go out and turn the screen black otherwise perfect frame rate for zelda oot
Super Mario Kart:
The game menu it self plays perfectly but when im try to keep the accelorator(forward movement) going, steering the kart and fire an object on the touch screen it seems to freak out. It makes it when i press A it only accelerates for a bit then stops then I have to repress a to start again.
1080 SnowBoarding(Love this game):
I tried playing 1080 snowboarding it ran perfectly till i tried playing a level then it just froze.
Goldeneye:
I just finished playing the first level of goldeneye on agent. It ran almost perfectly. There were a few spots of lag but over all goldeneye is not ment for this controller set up. But again there were no major hicups with game. I was able to complete a the first mission.

Ive sent him an email (his email address is in the market)
EDIT: He´s answered my mail and said that it would be possible to make it compatible on ARMv6 devices but he doesn´t wanna do it because he has tested it on his htc legend and said that it was very choppy and he doesn´t wanna get bad ratings in the market because of ppl who expect the emu to run at fullspeed on devices with insufficent hardware. So I guess we´re out of luck.

anyone here also using their hd2 to play n64oid?
mines runs like 2-4 games perfectly but the rest the sound is horrible and it lags sometimes like starfox, mario kart, zelda oot & mm, etc... is it cause i have the first gen of snapdragon cpu??? i have to set the frameskip to 10 and autoframe skip to get good gameplay but only on a few.
never the less this is awesome i cant wait till after some more updates 1.1 is already out =D
What rom should i attach the game to? I have never heard of having to do this.

I dont get it, a lot of people are complaining about laggy behavior, yet they are enabling everything... sound takes a lot of processing power

ha im not a moron i have disabled sound and i know sound makes many games laggy (was using daedalus psp for a long time and realize that the first time i got it) i just wanted to know cause newer up to date phones like the samsung vibrant, galaxy s, etc run it better with less hic up i just wanted to know if anyone else realized this and wanted someone to clarify it
p.s. i wasnt complaining i was just curious curiousity and complaining are completely different please dont just start accusing
Banjo-Kazooie has some graphical glitches though it has always been a problematic game to emulate if memory serves me right. Also FPS could be better in many places despite the intense frameskip going on (HTC Vision at 1.5 GHz)
Yep, Banjo Kazpoie has some issues with graphics in emulation. But its still fully playable on my Fascinate, almost near full speed.

Thanks a lot for asking him! Let's hope he'll manage to make the emulator more efficient. Seeing how well FPse runs it's a shame...
Anyone using the wii classic pro controller with this? I can't seem to find key mappings that make sense for Goldeneye... Any suggestions?

Those were the original controls:
You use the main analog stick to move Bond around, and you use the L button and the main analog stick combined to aim your weapon and lock the camera on a certain position. B is to reload, A to switch weapon, Left and Right C to Strafe, Up and Down C to look up or down, Z to use weapon, R is the same as L.

Maybe B to ZL, A to ZR, C buttons to a,b,x,y, Z to R?
Or C buttons to the right analog stick, a to b, b to y? (Maybe Z to a, if it doesn't work well on R?)
very choppy on Nexus One playing Zelda oot.anyone know a good set up to run smoother than the pre setup?

think well ever see a GameCube emulator?

were far past the minumin specs requirements for dolphin to run gamecube emulations, so any modern phone could run a gamecube emulator.. the question is, is anyone currently working on one? we really only seem to have two big emulator developers, both who now have no real motivation to develop.. so i wonder if anyone would take on the job of porting a gamecube emulator to android.. does anyone know if anyone is working on such a project?
I guess it remains to be seen, but I think gamecube emulation on Android has several things going for it. One is the raw horsepower of today's high-end smartphones, with phones like the SGSIII and HTC One X sporting quad cores. Another encouraging sign was the abandoned dreamcast emulator that ran surprisingly well on a Galaxy S2, and even then it was largely unoptimized. It also helps that Dolphin on PCs runs a lot of gamecube games at 60 fps, so optimized emulation of the gamecube architecture is certainly possible with the right developers. Hopefully this idea gains momentum - who wouldn't like to see a functional gamecube emulator running on a phone?
Hell.. anything to be banging out Timesplitters 2 on my phone! But maybe there's too many buttons to fit on the screen? You'd need the Anolog, D-Pad, C-Stick, Z, L & R, Start button and main buttons.. on the PS1 Emulator (FPSE), you've got just the D-Pad and main buttons to worry about.

Unlikely in the near future consider how far behind smartphone cpu's are. Maybe a few years down the road. Even with the new Exynos 5, it will still lag behind pc processors. The closest thing right now is a Gameboy Advance emulator.

I can play PS1 games on my galaxy S @ 60 fps with sound.
I don't think we'll see this for a very long time.
Although some game specs are very low, there are games that have very high requirements. Twilight Princess for example.
The other thing is, controls. Unless we have a bluetooth game controller, it would be very difficult to map any sort of playable controls to any modern smart phone. especially considering most smart phones now have only a touch screen.
On top of all that, there have only been a few dozen builds of dolphin for linux, afaik.
I could be wrong, but. the reality is, this is something that would take a lot of dedication, and it wouldn't be something the average smart phone user would benefit from, particularly due to the controls.
Lastly, we'd have to consider graphics. Although some smart phones are capable of doing some decent HD video, that doesn't mean they have the power to emulate physics engines and whatnot.

I think the biggest point is the performance. On my pc that can run BF3 on ultra it has trouble with gamecube emulation. Sure it pumps out 30 fps but it simply can't push out anything higher than that. And there are regular lagspikes when there are a lot of transparent particles on the screen. Overal the dolphin emulator is unoptimized. So if the pc version is having trouble I don't see a meager smartphone running it any better...
AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.5GHz
8GB DDR3 1066 MHz
Gigabyte HD5850
I doubt that it would be my specs that make dolphin run slow...

That's what Gamepads are for Blutooth modded Gamecube controller?
God the Game Cube, great console ever made the biggest challenge is to get all those buttons on a game cube controller on to the smart phone screen. Yes most smart phones now have massive screens but it would be pretty uncomfortable especially the buttons on the very front of the game cube controller. But that could be solved by using wireless controllers I guess..

I think we need to distinguish between what is theoretically possible and what is practically possible. Theoretically speaking, we had the first-gen Samsung Galaxy S running a nearly playable (and unoptimized) build of a dreamcast emulator. You were getting decent FPS on the emulator running a high-end game like Shenmue (you can find some old videos on Youtube). The dreamcast was in the same gaming generation and had the processing power comparable to the PS2 and Gamecube. When you start considering the power behind the new quad core generation of phones, things become interesting.
As far as practically possible, it'll definitely take a lot of work and technical know-how. If a potential developer is interested in the financial incentives (who isn't?), they can look no further than fpse on the android market: 100,000+ downloads at $5 a pop. No easy change. It can be done, but you need the right people.

Nah GBA Emulators Are Far Behind
I Could Run GBA Games On My 5320 Xpress Music And That Thing Didn't Even Have A Graphics Processor (However It Could Somehow Run NGAGE 2.0 Games)
I Have A HTC Sensation And I Can See It Emulating Everything Up To High End PS1 Games

That's why I keep my PSP handy. Custom firmware and some hacking and you have a usable PSP! I don't have a Gamecube emulator since I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist, but the NES, SNES, GB, GBA, etc all work like a dream
BUT..... I must admit, I'm interested in this too. I'd like to know what comes of this...
It would probably be laggy, I mean maybe on the S3 but really :/
Quick question to the folks on this thread: What do you guys think about starting a Kickstarter fund for either a gamecube, dreamcast, and/or ps2 emulator? These take a lot of work but might garner potential interest from Android devs if we throw enough of a financial incentive behind it. What do you guys think?
I've see emulators utilize dual core, but never quad core. I don't think adding more cores is going to make emulation more viable. However as processors get smaller and performance increases, we may see something like that then. It could be a while though.

I think you might be a bit off here. Here is a Tegra 3 vs the latest and greatest atom. They aren't far behind at all.
Unfortunately it wont let me post links, so Google "atom vs tegra 3" and it should be near the top. The hosting site is androidandme.com
