Confusion and Question... - HTC Desire S

Hi all,
I have some confusion and a question...
Confusion - HTC Desire or Desire S
Question - Will the price drop of either or both of these?
Want one for my wifey...Currently the former is 18k and the latter is 21-22k...Indian currency. But I can still be ok with Desire's price...am a little hesitant about the price of S.
Also, which out of the two is a better device? Will the prices drop once CES is over? 3 February is her b'day..we plan to buy either of 'em...
Some help?

the desire s is a much better phone and is definatly worth the extra over the original desire which suffered from a few problems(limited internal storage for apps for example) really though you may be better going for a newer model alltogether as the desire s is starting to age now and htc do not look like they are going to support it with further os updates(no ics )

Thank you so much brother...I think what you are saying makes sense...and yes, one of the reasons she wants a new phone is games...and i have got some superbly amazing set somewhere...
Yes...the Ds definitely looks beautiful...+ the FF camera... I am waiting for Feb...hopefully some prices may drop...and i am not a big fan of flashing ROMs...i have learned to be happy with the stock...
And ICS or no ICS, the device should be smooth...and i have a feeling the ICS is made for beasts like the RAZR AND Droid 4...so i will leave it for them..was also thinking of the Icredible..have used it for a week and believe me, its seriously the BEST HTC device i have seen so far...but again, the price....
And i don't think the desire is AMOLED...Its a SLCD...I have asked thiss to the official support of HTC...
So, I will wait till February or else go a little underground and look for a good deal...
thanx a lot again!

I don't think you should be confused about this.
The Desire S id the superior phone and i think if you're spending 18k on something, it does'nt make sense not to put in another 4k to get a vastly better looking and better performing phone. Internal memory is a VERY BIG issue, and you only realise this later when you start looking for workarounds like A2SD etc... really not worth it, NOTHING can replace solid state Nand flash memory.
Go for the Desire S (Also, i pity you if the wife finds out you cheaped out and got her an ancient phone like the old desire...!!)

That underground deal bit was a worse case scenario...I will buy her a first hand good phone ONLY...also, is the Incredible worth a look?
Will the month of Feb bring in some surprises (pleasant ones?)

No need to be paranoid. The information geekynoob has provided is only partially correct. The only thing potentially risky for the Desire S is the battery pull.
Market suicide is no longer a problem as the new market (series 3) does not download apps simultaneously, but one by one sequentially. Your market gets updated to the latest one after your first use. The new market (3.4.4) is a 100% safe. So no danger there.
As long as you do not pull battery, you're perfectly safe.

Froyo like desire lil question..

On desire room i liked the Weather thing. once u unlock ur phone..
it rains, snowy u knoww..
is it possible to port THAT on froyo?
Really? May i ask how old you are? You talk like a 12 year old no offense. But anyway porting Desire stuff to froyo is a no go sorry.
Do u ppl have to do that.. ? no iam 23 .. I just love the Desire Rom. But none of them was good enough.. froyo looks flawless.
I am not a PRO @ android and porting things.. If ppl wasnt asking and answering things here why do we need XDA-DEVELOPERS for.. ? MAYBE SOME ONE SMARTER than YOU can do that.. YES ITS EASY TO SAY "NO YOU CANT"..
Android is Devs free so you can MOD the way you want it...
IT was JUST AN IDEA....
Sweet jesus. The fact that you even started a new thread about this topic proves that you didn't even TRY to search for it. This has been brought up since sense first came to the android platform. The framework on the htc sense roms is so different that they haven't found a way to port anything from them.
As of now, and the past 2 years, it is NOT possible. Don't start new topics about porting anything from sense. There are hundreds of posts on the topic already.
Thanx.. Sorry for the new thread... close it if u can
I'll answer your question.. you'll see sense 2.2 on your nexus one when desire gets the 2.2 update... if they ever do. good luck and don't hold your breath...
You can also install Weather Widget with Forecast addon, it`s the closest look
and feel you can get without SenseUI.
Good Luck!
P.S. Sorry for my english...

Nop! My battery with SenseUI drain almost the same that in Cyan, for example.
Much better battery life with Froyo BTW.

Where are all the ROM devs?

I see a couple people but where are all the roms? google even released 2.3.4 source but I haven't seen the explosion of developement for this phone yet. despite a few issues this phone is one badass phone. after i got one without screen bleed and really sunk into it this phone is better that any android i've ever used and has features the Samsung Galaxy S 2 won't have such as nvidia tegra 2 which in my opinion is a much more solid piece of hardware and a much more well known company than the one on the SGS 2. and Smartshare, Ultra dolby digital mobile!!! this phone is the ****! plus i heard bionix was coming to this phone via team whiskey! I see faux released a rom and he doesn't even have the phone! we have a good start but....
Where are the devs!!!??? please we need you people. you guys make phones these expensive things worth purchasing for the insane amounts of money they cost. oh mighty development lords, please develope!
its called patience.
to quote the Princess Bride "I hate waiting..." lol i have patience it just doesn't seem like many have signed on yet like with the vibrant i've had for 10 months.
You also have to remember that out dev section is split between the o2x and g2x. These two forums should be combined.

Totally disagree, maybe for someone with some flashing experience yes, but for noobs it would be a total mess, flashing o2x roms on g2x phones... not to mention wrong kernels, maybe even radios...not a nice thought..

+1 would be a disaster.
I agree development is slower than I'd expected..
I was gonna make a ROM, but the stock ROM with Titanium Backup is best for me. If you build AOSP you lose the awesome Camera app that LG wrote and you lose all the cool apps that come with the G2x.
For me I just uninstall the apppack app and freeze the wifi calling app and I'm good to go.
I tried the GB build and it had GPS issues and didn't have the nice camera app.
So I'm happy with the stock setup with a few tweaks.

The Vibrant has been out for 10 months. The G2x has been out for barely 2.
Development will come.. It takes some time though. Not every Android dev has the cash to buy a new phone every time one comes out.

Closer to 3 weeks. It's amazing how some people think it is easy to develop a rom.
It would help if anyone could build a kernel from the lg source that didn't break wifi and bt. All attempts have failed.....
I actually thought the opposite, I thought development is going great!
I don't remember really seeing any major development for the Vibrant until after 2 Months!
And we already have a. 2.3.3 and a 2.3.4 Rom out!
Just saying!

i agree. guess i feel spoiled from all the vibrant support. i figured this phone would explode fast in dev. since we had root so fast and dual core, plus being a google phone. hopefully t-mobile gets off their ass and releases the official gingerbread like they promised before i purchased my phone (which was the ONLY reason i even was ok with purchasing an android 2.2 again). maybe that'll fix the problem ttabbal was talking about with the kernels.

So here goes: I have the Vibrant and want to switch. I don't like the G2x. So was thinking of the SENSATION. How do you like yours?
Battery life? Good ROMs in the Dev section? ICS is coming to it? Overall - are you happy?
Thanks a million! Good year to you all
with ICS out sensation is outstanding phone battery life is better with this rom, everything has improved, and thats only the test build of ICS

Personally, I'm pretty satisfied with the phone. Had to send it in for warranty though due to a dead pixel
If you can get it at a cheaper price compared to the S2/Galaxy Note, I'd say go for it

Dont see why anyone would want the NOTE. It's a tablet. but that's besides the point 9:
10000% HappY
I Love my Sensation XE . As my first android phone, I was getting confused between XE/GS2 . but when i practically handled them side by side...GS2 were a "Big NO" for my taste. i admit the screen is....but that's it..actually it hurts to see so over saturated color & the exterior look of total body is waaaayyyyyy inferior than XE. I dont give a damn about "benchmark"..as i do play..Shadowgun/ Asphault6 on my XE...and games like these literally fly..in terms of both look and performance. To me, my XE RockS.

That's what I thought until I tried my friend's Note, it's so big that it makes the Sensation look tiny
love my sensation - now that i've flashed ARHD rom..it turned into XE with beats audio with speed bump to 1.5ghz and enhanced audio quality. the phone is very smooth but i have yet to try ICS roms on it. Will wait for more stable release before i try flashing one.

Help me replace my HD2

Hey guys
I'm kind of out of the smartphone loop. A couple years ago I had a HD2 and it was a beaufitul thing, mainly due to the amount of different things you could do with it. However about 7 months ago the touch screen stopped responding and so its not just a beautiful paper weight. For a while my friend leant me her old desire which worked nicely for me with a custom rom. However she had to take it back and now im stuck with my old SE z530i...
So basically im looking for something equivalent to the HD2 in terms of its abilities and what not, I do like high spec phones but Im not willing to go as far as the £500 I spent on my HD2. Is there a phone out atm between the levels of a desire and a Hd2? Whats the galaxy nexus turned out to be like?
Cheers!
BUMP
Good luck with that.....The HD2 is probably the most developed phone out there. You can always just replace the screen? I have heard it is pretty easy.
Just hold out for the SGSIII, it will be out this month. Of course it is not as highly developed but at least it can see when you look at it.....
Oh, and Bumping is prohibited. If someone wants to answer you, they will.

It's hard times for ppl like us... i changed after 30months with a HD2 to the HTC One X.
the One X has a perfect screen and amazing specs, it's really cool, but development seems to be very slow, and nowhere as near the HD2
I'm really thinking of going back to the HD2! it was just pure freedom, nothing gets near it

Hmm I know what you mean, you can do anything with the HD2. Maybe I'll just pay for the screen to be replaced on it. I don't know but I'm not a huge fan of the Galaxies, they seem to plasticy and tacky, maybe its cause im used to the metal behind of the HD2.

There seem to be enough devs, but we still don't have S-OFF. not many are looking into this prob..
we still need to flash the "boot.img" kernel via the PC, with phone in fastboot mode..
this, everytime when we change to a ROM with a different base.
but we have a working CM9 ROM now, I'm very happy with it.. I can't stand sense >.< and most ROMs are just stripped down sense ROMs, or modified ones
but maybe i'm just too spoiled from the time with my HD2.. >.<
I was in town yesterday and I had the chance to try out the HTC one X. Its specs impressed me and its build quiality seemed closer to the HD2 than anything else I'd seen. Anyone got anything bad to say about it?

like i said, the device itself is amazing, only bad point is that you can't exchange the battery, and it doesn't have a SDCard slot.
Besides this, develpment is slow, but i'm satisfied now, that we have a really good working unoficial cm9 ROM.
Theres even an AOKP ROM now, wich i want to try soon
But if you like sense, there are enough ROMs for this available..

CM 10.x

Hi there, I am coming from an HTC ONE V to HTC One mini (I like the form factor and the 512mb were REALLY not enough for me... hope that the 1Gb will do it).
Just received the device today so directly jumped on xda to flash it on CM but ... a bit disapointed that nothing has been ported out yet.
Hopefuly will be released soon. If beta testers needed, PM me.
Hope to see smth soon as I am already bored of Sense5.
Cheers guys
It is in the works. You can find some information in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459528
Funny enough, I am also coming from One V. Looking back it feels like a toy in comparison with the Mini.

Looks like abandonware to me ... but I might be too pessimistic on that topic.
Not a coincidence but only consumer insight. Bought the One V and the One Mini because I hate big screen phones that don't fit in one hand/my pocket. It's a pity that the only manufacturer that exploits such a form factor with the last tech components seems to be the Pear.
Anyway, hope the hardware on this One Mini will be enough for all my apps to run properly ... and hope to see a CM mod soon enough anyway (and that's a lot of hopes in one sentence)
@h8rift is working on it - at least he was working on it a month ago, hope he made some progress int his time.
you are not the only person waiting for CM
