[Q] What are the steps to install custom ROMs in this phone? - HTC Inspire 4G

Hello all, I've been tweaking with my Xperia Arc and Samsung Galaxy S2 for 3 months now, but a friend of mine asked me to install a new ROM to his Inspire.
It's currently on stock. I found a nice ROM thread and read that it needed the "Radio S-Off" and I don't understand what that means.
I know I'll be able to flash the cwm, and unlock the bootloader (hopefully) but that one kept me guessing. Thanks in advance!

The steps are: Root the phone. Install Recovery. Flash custom ROM.
If you don't know what that means or how to do either of those steps, you shouldn't be messing with the phone at this point. All the information you need is already available in these threads. Do your research.

Research!! Each ROM thread the developer shows you how to flash them. There are also specific threads that teach you how in development section. Do not attempt anything with your buddies phone if you don't know what your doing or you may end up buying him a new phone.
Research and study!!!Reasearch and study!!! I myself searched and searched for weeks before I attempted anything on my phone.

You need to start off with the Advanced Ace Hack Kit to get it rooted and to get s-off.

Read the effen manual!!! At least3 times. Word for word, don't skim.

If you don't read and then you wont know if you don't know then you shouldn't be doing it. Just saying.

Read the entire effin manual more than 3 times if you need to. There is a quiz at the end. Make sure that you are in the correct thread for your phones. You have posted this on the inspire thread.

Thanks all, lol I know guys! Geez, I did my research as soon as I asked this, just sometimes asking its part of researching for me buut it's done, thanks to someone who pointed me to Ace kit on pm and here! And yes, I read the effen manual 5 times. Although Ace kit it's pretty clear and easy. I found out that this phone in particular it's bit of a different work around than my other phones(Arc, S2). I flashed him Android Revolution HD ROM and it's pretty cool, although too stockish for my liking. Thanks again guys.

I recommend absolution <3 just look it up

Well, first, have you even tried searching the forums? You aren't the first person that's run into problems.
At the very least you could provide a little more detail. You can't really expect anyone to help just by starting a new thread saying "it doesn't work," instead of posting in Bubbys thread, where it should be.
One thing I do recall, though I haven't gone through the process myself, is you need root for the S-On tool to work.

I got root but still can't get s-on so i'm on standby just building up the energy to do some more research before jumping into it again.

Hello, I have unlocked my bootloader with fastboot cmd-easy
I rooted with superoneclick can't remember version but worked good
I put rom manager on gingerbread and flashed clockworkmod version 5.x-worked great then i got peter Alfonso most current ICS rom...then flashed the radio specific to the koodo network, 4.0.3...
And here is the info if needed

At&t version
Koodo mobility
Baseband-I9020AUCKB2
Kernal V.- 3.0.8-gb55e9ac

Anyhow I was wondering what Kernal would work and what the difference in kernels are and learn abit more being I'm new to samsung customization and what have you and as of now ICS is working like a charm haven't tried a battery test, but performance is nice fast and easy to use mind menus and launcher is abit lagging at times but over all quick and pretty, also face lock is slooooow... And the live effects in camera, is that only for video or wasn't it also for stills but cool either way lol
Please be kind i get a little spacey at times and like if you can't get where I'm going here just ask... I am like i said new to the nexus s
Thank you and have a great day...

this doesnt belong in the development section. check the q&a section for other similar threads(there are many). also, check the general section too, for kernel comparisons and benchmarks(Bedalus started some nice threads there).
come on people just read where you post your threads.!!!!

HTC inspire 4G AT&T rooting

HI,
I recently took this phone from my frend who brought this from US.
It unlocked to any carrier. I have read couple of places about S-Off.
Not sure what it is all about. Before rooting & installing custom ROM I need help from the folks who have done this. There is no removery mod installed on this phone. I dont want to brick this piece hence need rooting instructions from the folks.
Regards
S-on? Then use this.

In truth, we can't make the instructions any simpler than the step by step that was already beautifully done by attn1. If you read it and still don't understand, keep reading it until it makes sense and read the effin manual included with the hack kit. While rooting, if anything goes wrong, follow the manual and don't make any assumptions or redo anything.

Darunion said beautifully....the only thing that I can add up is that the Hack Kit is the only game in town. DO NOT try anything else or might end up with a messed bootloader. Read as many times as necessary and then go ahead...if you get stuck do not stop or close anything, just re read the manual´s troubleshooting section and if are still stuck hit the IRC channel...but do not stop or atempt anything....welcome to XDA...:good:
I used Ace Hack Kit. It was actually surprisingly easy and didn't take that long.

Here's a video to help: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...m6DWCA&usg=AFQjCNEDETg2nq8rDBQWfKvlh9APF40fiw
It will root, unlock, install clockwork mod recovery, and superuser.
After that flash a rom. I will say I use the Rom called "Android Revolution HD 6.3.1" and can hotspot when ever I want, even without the AT&T account.
Video for that is here: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...4dTCCA&usg=AFQjCNE6rGAT6Z8pN9omO8UshYbzAup5cQ

Yes it is if you want to remain stock. The new update requires some finesse to root. If you dont care for root then go for it. If you want root, do it now. Just get Ace Advanced Hack Kit and follow the instruction.
She's kind of on the fence about rooting her device, so I want to keep the options open. I guess that as long as the update doesn't stop her from rooting with Ace Hack kit, (I've used it before) or locks the bootloader as happened with Motorola, I can tell her to go ahead.

It's a bigger pain to root with that update. If she's considering rooting and the update isn't a huge deal to her you might want to tell her to stick with what she has until she decides whether to root.
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

I recommend using the hack kit. S-off that thing and install one of the rooted versions of the new RUU. ClearDroid and GizRoot work sweet.
Enjoy the Pickle
We S-off'ed it for her last night. Went smoothly. I will take a look at what's out there for her and see what kind of mods, tweaks, and roms tickle her fancy. I know she's going to want to enable native tethering, so I guess I'll start there. Appreciate all the tips guys. Keep 'em coming!

Welcome! Well, seeing as how tethering is one of the bigger reasons that people root, most ROMs (at least non-Sense ones I've tried) have them. You might want to tell her to aim a little higher.
Try Android Revolution HD. It is basically the update she would have gotten but rooted and can hotspot with no problem.
