[Humor][HTC Glacier Edition] You know you're rooted when... - myTouch 4G General

So I was at the Sensation forums (again) and found this thread and thought it was pretty neat. Original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571645 , and the original original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1561386

"I saw this thread in the Epic and Rezound forums and related to most of them.. so just post and complete this sentence "You know you're rooted when.."
Examples:
masaidjet: You know you're rooted when you tell a neighborhood hoe to " wipe her cache "
wscott9903: You know you're rooted when 1/2 of your apps require superuser permission.
feralicious: You know you're rooted when your spouse tells you they're leaving you and taking the kids and you think "perfect timing, (insert dev name here) just released a new ICS ROM".
jayochs: you know you're rooted when your phones buggy as hell lol
putney1477: You know you're rooted when, you husband, wife, significant other gets a new phone and says, don't you dare come near this phone, it works fine!

you know you're rooted when you spend more time on the computer building ROMs than going on facebook or playing games. lol

lmao here's another one sorry for double posting...
YOU KNOW YOU'RE ROOTED WHEN XDA IS SET AS YOUR HOMEPAGE!

You know you're rooted when your computer has more nandroids saved than pics of your children...

You know you're rooted when you try to convince every other person to root their phones too.

Here's a couple...You know you're rooted when you see a .zip file and your first thought is whether or not it is flashable in clockwork! and you know you're rooted when you go to the bathroom with your phone and you only pee. (reworded)

You know you're rooted when you give your friend your phone to make a phone call, and he/she has no idea how to use your phone.

uhhh, I don't think I can vouch for the second on invasion...I got one, you know your rooted when your friend calls you a flashenthusiast

You know your rooted when, you check your battery stats an you see XDA at the top, followed by ROM manager/4ext.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.

your'e rooted when you can't hear great granny grunt

You know you're rooted when everyone wonders how you can go days without a charge.
You know you're rooted when all the games on your phone have ridiculous scores because of GameCIH.
You know you're rooted when the spot for the carrier at the top of the screen reads something other than your carrier.
You know you're rooted when random things don't work and you tell people that's how it's supposed to be.

You know you're rooted when you see a new phone do something cool, and you think, "I'm sure there's a mod that let's my phone do that."

This is awesome...
Hope they get it going soon. I got ahead of the game, and had their ROM manager installed and flashed the alternate recovery (all this after permanent root).
It does not work (works great on N1 - but not on this one yet).
Do not think anything else is messed up (as when selecting recovery at hboot - it shows stock options and then an error message further down...).
I thinks as soon as Clockworkmod gets the MT4G setup and it appears in the choice of devices, it should be easy to just flash their recovery over the one that I flashed earlier.

The "alternate recovery" in ClockWorkMod is Amon Ra Recovery (arguably better). I'm such he's working for a port for all the devices that got permrooted yesterday.
kmobs has it running now. Not sure when it will be released though.
Dang they already have roms for the g2! I wonder if we'll get any love for the mt4g

Not until some devs pickup the phone. It is good that Kmobs has one cuz he may get the ball rolling but most devs (at least the ones I follow) all picked up a G2. Be patient though, I thought the MTslide was dead a few months back but there are still ROMs being released over there.
I think well be in luck with support.this phone is a whole different beast from the mt3g and hopefully much more appealing to devs, as it is consumers. Also,I think KingKlick has one and he made some great roms for the N1

To be fair, the ROM they have on the G2 forums is from the HTC Desire Z which is the exact same identical device as the G2.
Which makes me wonder if it'll be possible to load the Desire HD ROM without much porting work needing to be done given the similarities in internals.

What did he get banned for? I came from the Evo section, so all I ever saw was his kernels popping up.
They have ported over Rom Manager and their recovery to handle the GT already. I am hoping that they do so for the MT4G soon, as I do not have a working recovery right now.

Supposedly, he was taking ROMs from the other devs in the Nexus One forms, tweaking them just ever so slightly, then re-releasing them as his own creation with no credit due.
Emphasis on the supposedly.
If anyone gets their hands on a custom recovery before everyone else, I have a flashable rooted stock with bloatware removed uploading right now to Rapid Share. So, if you want to try it let me know. But be advised...IT IS UNTESTED!

Im guessing thats not the right way to remove ATT stock apps? lol I been browsing forums but can find nothing for HTC Inspire 4G
If your not to sure what you should or shouldn't delete, then the best thing for you would be to just flash a stock rooted rom. Like clearD, tcp, or dilligaf.
Titanium backup is the right way. Why don't you try twopumpchump optimized stock Rom in the development section. We're very helpful over there and will walk you through it. You can flash a ROM that already has the bloat removed.

Im kinda nervous to flash roms, I spent 3 hours last night reading/prepping myself for the root, was so nervous of a brick (btw new android user came from iphone) I have a buddy who had a nexus he bricked trying to flash the cryageon rom which is a well trusted rom. Just really scared >.>
Plus will flashing a rom remove contacts ect?
It's not as hard as you think. Take your time though. Best to do your research. Check out the Rom I suggested though and drop in if you have any questions.

As long as you have them saved on your sim no. Personal data yes. Apps not if you back them up. Make a nandroid back up before flashing. All you have to do is download the rom, place it on your sd card. Then boot into recovery install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, pick the rom select yes. You just flashed a rom.. As far as I know no one has completely bricked their inspire, even the people who have had corrupted boot loaders have been able to recover.

Honestly, I haven't had a chance to sit down at my desktop and try and mess around with it, college has taken up a lot of my time. I will say its a lot more complex then people think it is. It makes me really appreciate the people who bake roms and make themes.
I will probably sit down this weekend try tweeking a few things, and hopefully get it to work with out boot looping. Makes me wish some one lived around here that could teach me a few things I am a visual learner. I will get one working though .

[Q] What are the steps to install custom ROMs in this phone?

Hello all, I've been tweaking with my Xperia Arc and Samsung Galaxy S2 for 3 months now, but a friend of mine asked me to install a new ROM to his Inspire.
It's currently on stock. I found a nice ROM thread and read that it needed the "Radio S-Off" and I don't understand what that means.
I know I'll be able to flash the cwm, and unlock the bootloader (hopefully) but that one kept me guessing. Thanks in advance!
The steps are: Root the phone. Install Recovery. Flash custom ROM.
If you don't know what that means or how to do either of those steps, you shouldn't be messing with the phone at this point. All the information you need is already available in these threads. Do your research.
Research!! Each ROM thread the developer shows you how to flash them. There are also specific threads that teach you how in development section. Do not attempt anything with your buddies phone if you don't know what your doing or you may end up buying him a new phone.
Research and study!!!Reasearch and study!!! I myself searched and searched for weeks before I attempted anything on my phone.

And yes, I read the effen manual 5 times. Although Ace kit it's pretty clear and easy. I found out that this phone in particular it's bit of a different work around than my other phones(Arc, S2). Why would you blame ROM Manager for your mistake?
A. Anytime you flash anything (even if its the correct ROM flashed the correct way (CWM)) you always assume responsibility yourself.
B. You flashed a T-mobile ROM on your AT&T Skyrocket. If done right, it usually works, but it still adds extra risk.
C. You said you were "just messing around". Anyone that doesn't want a bricked phone should take flashing or modifying anything serious...not just messing around.
D. Most of the ROMS you are supposed to flash on the SkyRocket give detailed directions in the OP. Any I have sen all say to use CWM and give great instructions.
I don't see how any of this is ROM Managers bad business? Hopefully this will be a good tale of precaution for others before they brick their phone not paying attention. Sorry to hear about your phone, but take the blame for yourself...not ROM manager.

Thanks. I'm not trying to give the guy a hard time. He just bricked (atleast soft-bricked) his phone so I'm sure he really is pissed. But blaming an app for it when it isn't the apps fault starts alot of confusion. If something really is wrong with an app, we all need to know about it so it can be tested / fixed/ avoided / reported / etc...If the fault is with the phone's owner than the phone's owner needs to take responsibility for the problem and stop blaming the creators of useful apps (and ROMS) for the problems.

It bricked because ROM manager doesn't recognize the recovery on the skyrocket. It's something in the first line of the app.
Although, I might agree with you and blame ROM manager also if it let you flash a ROM while it couldn't detect a recovery. That's just straight up ****ty oversight on the developer.

Try Samsung first. Tell them it just derped one day when you tried to turn it on. If they believe you, it might take a week or two but you'll get another phone. Samsung will just fix it and give it to the next person that has a warranty replacement as a "referbished" unit. They won't lose money and you will get a new phone. That is if they believe you.

Before trying to do anything, read read read and read some more. The problem you are having is easily fixed but you should definitely have read up on some of the dozens of guides out there as to what to do after you have rooted your phone
I'm not trying to patronize, but its always best to know what you're getting yourself into before you actually attempt to do it

Are you S-Off rooted? Turn your phone off (unplug it too), after it is fully shut down hold power+volume down until the bootloader comes up. At the top it will say S-On or S-Off, report back.

This Guy didn't add a recovery. My tips for him would be to unroot and not root till he is aware of the process. Im gonna back nexus on this one because if you have to hold the hand now, imagine what kinda water this person is going to go into not knowing anything

Very true, I just try to help everybody out regardless cuz that is the way I am. I do wish people would read more when trying to do stuff tho. I wouldn't try to root without knowing what I was doing.

All good man I had a hard week just ask chad....lost a family member, and then a friend of the family, almost got in a real life shoot out cause some punks cut me off then went for their gun, but mine was out faster . Anyways I blew some steam off Sunday by going shooting. So I'm all better.
Ps

Download cwm from the playstore. And then from the app it can flash the recovery for you. Prboy has a good link in his Sig on how to properly wipe the phone. But you should read up on adb commands and fastboot commands along with guides on how to flash a Rom. It will really help you out man

Dude you forgot your recovery....I'm not sure how though as it should be in all instuctions posted. Recovery is the second most important thing you should understand, of course after knowing and understanding root.
Don't do it because your friend Bob has a rooted phone and says you will get tons of free apps ( this is not CRApple OS ) do it because you understand the benefits of having a rooted device.
*edit*
Listen to youngcorruption and download ROM manager to at least get recovery then start reading
