Windows live service unavailable - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using a Samsung Focus S, version 7.10.7720.68 and whenever I am on cellular I cannot download apps, look up achievements on the xbox app, or use the search at all. When I am on WiFi, it works fine. Here's the catch; I am using it with a Str8 Tlk SIM card. I can browse the web fine, just not use apps that use the live services.
All the proxies for att.mvno resolve to:
Code:
Name: rds-proxy.mycingular.net
Address: 66.209.11.33
Aliases: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
So I've tried just using the IP address, plus other MVNO proxies that I've located, but it doesn't matter since they all resolve to the same place.
I've reset the phone, I've removed the phone from my live account and I got it to work for 1 app, then it stopped working immediately after downloading it. I've tried a samsung focus and had the same results.
I don't know to look up the error logs to see what the problem is. I'm wondering if it's blocked in DNS somewhere on AT&T's side since it works fine on WiFi.
Any ideas where I should continue?

Not sure if you are still having this issue, but I just ran into a similar thing but with net10 on my Focus. I sent an email over the net10 support and they had to fix some data provisioning on their end. Once they fixed it, all live services worked.
One thing to note though - under the APN settings, I just put att.mvno for the name and left the proxy address and port blank. If I put in the proxy url/port, I couldnt get live services working. So try the the apn setting first, reboot your phone and see if it works. If it doesnt, you might need to send an email to Straight Talk to see if there is something wrong with the data settings for the sim.

Fuze - VPN to Compnay Network - Remote Desktop Works, Intranet browsing does not

I have the AT&T Fuze with the stock ROM. I purchased it the first day it came out. I think this was 11/11/2008. I have the PDA Personal plan for unlimited data. I have things set up so that my contacts and email synch with our Exchange server. I can remote desktop from my Fuze using the data network to any machine that I can remote to from my computer, so from that, I am thinking VPN must be configured correctly. On one of these machines that I connect to, I have IIS running and put a very simple web page on it (no script, nothing IE specific). From my work computer, it loads fine. I can remote desktop from my Fuze to any machine on the network and launch IE and load it. But, I can't load it directly from my Fuze in either Opera or IE. It does initiate the VPN connection. But, then I get the error HTTP gateway timed out. I'm really not interested in viewing the page that I created. We use Perforce, which is source control system. It has a jobs portion, which we use to track bugs. There is a web interface to the jobs, which is on the intranet, not internet. I don't have rights to remote to the Perforce server, and that is why I initially tried putting a simple page on a machine that i am an admin on. I want to be able to click on a link in my email and have it load the bug in Opera. If I am home and turn on WiFi, and disable the data network, this works fine. This bypasses AT&T's machines, which makes me think there is something that AT&T is blocking. And if they are, then maybe it is the AT&T bloat this is telling them what it is. Our IT guy has verified that I am successfully VPNing in. He is seing the mycingular.net in the firewall.
My boss has the same phone, but purchased more recently, and his is working fine for this. He has flashed the new AT&T test ROM, and done the thing that keeps the AT&T bloat from getting installed.
The fact that remote desktop works, but browsing a webpage on the same machine does not, makes me think there is more to this than just network settings.
If anyone has the anwer to this, please share. If I find the answer, I will post it is well. I have extensively searched the forum for the answer to this, and have not found anything that worked. If I have missed something, I appologize.
Sort of works now, still have an issue
After going to the proxy tab, and checking that This network connects to the Internet and checking the check box that this network uses a porcy server to connect to the internet. Then specify the server. Then go to Advanced and change the HTTP port to 8080 instead of just 80. I also put the user id, password and Domain in on the proxy for HTTP.
But I get prompted for a user id and password from the proxy erveer. I have entered it and clicked the checkbox to save it. It does not display the same info that I entered the next time and it does not display what was entered on the HTTP proxy page. It is a drop down, and I can select the correct one. It's just annoying to need to. I'd like to clear this cache.
Also, to initially get it working I had to disable HSDPA and HSUPA, restart. Then reenable it. I have the registry on my Fuze which give me the menu option on the Advanced network tab to do this.
Figured out how to clear the cache issue - still prompts
The cache was a setting in Opera for passwords.
It still asks for the password. At least it is prefilled with the correct info, since I now only have the one entry, so it is just 1 click, but I should not need to do this step.
Any one know what I need to do to fix this.
If I try to load it in IE, it just tries but never succeeds and never asks for a password, just says Opening.
Connections
Why should I need to set this to connect to the Internet, and use the ISA server? I would think if it needs to connect to the internet, it should be able to just use the Media Net
My Media Net Settings are
Modem -
Name - Modem
Media Net - wap.cingular
Advanced shows the modem in the drop down list as Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
The drop down is disabled
Next
Access Point Nam - wap.cingular
Next
User name - [email protected]
don't know what the password is. I've never changed it.
Domain is blank
Next
TPC/IP
Use server - assigned IP address is selected
Use software compression and use IP header compression are checked.
Use slip is not checked and the checkbox is disabled
Servers
Use Servr Assigned addresses is selected
So DN,Alt DNS, WINS, and ALT WINS are disabled.
Proxy Settings
This network connects to the internet
This networks uses a proxy server to connect to the internet is not checked.
More info and additional question
Navigating to some intranet sites does not prompt me for the isa server.
such as http://machine/virtdir/Default.aspx
seems to work without being prompted
but
http://perforcemachine:8080/@md=d&cd=//&[email protected]//?ac=107&mx=25
prompts me for the password.
Also, in order to get either of these links to work, I need to have in my exceptions:
*.companyname.com/*
Where companyname is the actual companyname.
This is annoying because it makes it connect to the VPN when synching with the exchange server. Before I want on the quest to get these links to intranet sites to work, I synched with the exchange server without connecting to the VPN.
I've tried putting in isa.companyname.com in the exceptions, but that doesn't work.
Is there a way to do *.companyname.com/* except mail.companyname.com?
I suspect all of this is in the registry somewhere.

How to set APN for HTC HD 7

I have HTC HD 7. Previously I had Tmobile and now i just bought Straight talk as my network provider. How can I set up APN so i can access data on my cell? I am able to make calls and sms, NOT MMS and internet? can someone help plz
Try HTC Connection Manager first. It should be in your HTC Marketplace. It should automatically set your gprs. In case it doesn't do that, ask info about APN from your provider so you can type it in manually.
Did you even try a single search? Like, "Set APN on WP7" or something?
Settings -> Cellular -> Network Selection / Add APN.
Alternatively, the Connection Setup app (as recommended by @hatuna; it's in the HTC Apps section of the Marketplace) should work just fine.
I am running into the same issues as OP. When I search for "Setting APN on WP7" the responses indicate the steps to edit / create APN's for the AT&T sim. For the T-Mo sim's, Straight Talk wants us to add Port information but no Proxy and WP7 won't let you save settings if you have a port # but no proxy value.
Try adding it as "my.apn.domainORT", like you would for a port on a web browser.
Alternatively, try using the proxy port, but setting the proxy name to the APN as well.
Finally (first, really), have you tried Connection Setup yet?
Finally managed to make it work. I used these settings :
APN - wap.tracfone
Proxy - 216.155.165.40
Port - 8080
Leave username and password blank.
I am getting 3G speeds with this setting.
I tried the HTC Connection manager but it doesn't have an option for StraightTalk. I did try Tracfone as an option but it didn't work.

Click to collapse
Did you find that the Tracfone option reverted to T-Mobile USA after you selected Tracfone and returned back to HTC Connection Manager? Also, did you find a place for the MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com setting?

[Q] Can't download MMS

Hoping someone can help. I have a Nexus 5 on the AT&T network. Been using it without issue since Halloween 2014. All of a sudden, the past couple of days, I'm having some issues with MMS messages. I started a new group message and only one person received it. I haven't been able to text pictures to people. And today I have been receiving notification stating "Can't download MMS - check your APN settings". I can send regular one on one text messages just fine and sometimes group messages do go through. Sometimes not. Pictures don't seem to be going through at all.
Nothing has changed on my phone and I definitely haven't touched the APN settings. I'm using the "phone" APN for AT&T with all of the correct settings founds online.
I had a friend who's using a 2014 Moto X Pure Edition send me his APN (also AT&T) and he has one called "nxtgenphone" but all of the other settings are identical to the "phone" APN. I've tried added a new APN for "nxtgenphone" but when I select it and then reboot, the phone goes back to the "phone" APN automatically.
Anyone know what could be going on? Is it an AT&T issue? My issue? Other? I'm not sure what to do or check at this point.
Again, everything has worked just fine for months. This is a recent issue the past couple of days.
Thanks!
Bronson
I had a similar issue with Net10. What fixed it for me was moving my active APN to be the first APN.
I just noticed I have the same problem. I am on AT&T with my N5 running 5.1(D) also, my APN it set to ATT Phone, and all settings are confirmed. googled the problem and the "google messenger" app seems to be buggy. It has been updated recently and I think its now more messed up than before...
If on LTE and WIFI I have mms problems
If on LTE, 3g or H only mms goes through!!!
If I use "hangouts" (which I hate becuase if you search for a contact, it puts your google+ contacts up 1st) things seem to work fine in all forms of connection LTE/WIFI/3G/H etc....
So till they fix the "Google Messenger" App, I am forced to use "Hangouts" as it is more reliable for now
I'm on AT&T & the last time I tried the "Google Messenger" App a couple of weeks ago, I had trouble with MMS. I run CM and just went back to the CM messanger, and it was fine. So it seems there is an issue with AT&T & the Google Messenger app that didn't exist before. I wonder if it is specific to the N5 or on other phones.
Well here's another funky thing to add... As stated above I have problems with sending and receiving mms with Google's messenger application at "home" but not with Google's hangout application at "home" where I first noticed the problem. Well while I was at "work" today about 15 miles away from home. I tried Google's messenger application and it worked!!!
So I am now thinking it has something to do with AT&T tower at my home location and Google's messenger application. Since Google's hangout works when I am "home" and away...
Now what???
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium HD app
Another update to my dilemma, when at "home" and I turn my "WIFI" off and restart the phone. Things seem to work, as I look more and more into this problem I am having with sending and receiving mms on AT&T. I am starting to see a pattern that Google's Messenger application may have an issue where it is suppose to "Turn Off" Wifi use cellular data to send and receive the mms and then "Turn On" wifi after it is done with the mms process.... But this does not explain why things work while I am not away from my "Home" location!!!!
Getting to the root of my problem!!!! FIXED!!!!!!
I am starting to think that the MMS problem is not with AT&T and the google messenger app, or 5.1(D), or my APN setting!!!!
But with my wifi router at home!!!
After more reading up on this and also the fact that I have "No" problems sending or receiving MMS while "Away" from home using another WIFI source or with WIFI off. I was starting to think if the problem was "Caused" by my wifi router a linksys wrt54g running dd-wrt??? So what I did was to connect to a Public Wifi I have outside of my house and I was able to send and receive MMS without any problems!!!!
Just recently I had to change a setting on my router to allow my xbox360 to download some content.
That setting was to "Allow - UPnP service" I went back into the router, reversed my settings and rebooted the router, made sure my phone was connected to the "home" wifi and checked my IP address to see if it was connected to my ISP. Attemped to send a MMS and GUESS WHAT!!!! IT WENT TROUGH!!!!! for a short period of time then it stoped again... I went back into the routers setup page and also turned off the STATIC IP I set for the phone, no luck. Then I remembered I have OpenDNS and my router was using the OPENDNS DNS addresses. went to my opendns dashboard and looked at what was blocked by them and found that that MMS proxy site "proxy.mobile.att.net" was "Blocked" by openDNS. So I put that domain in the "Never Block" list and rebooted the router. So far I am able to send and recieve MMS again when I am on my Home network... This still does not explain again why "hangouts" works with all of setting I have chenged before coming to this conclusion. Unless Google Hangouts is not using the APN and uses some other form of traffic to the net???? Also Google's Messenger app is also using DATA via whatever WIFI connection. Thus is my OPENDNS was blocking the proxy it was not going through!!!!
I AM FIXED for now!!!!! :good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good:
So all of you who have problems with Google's Messenger APP sending and/or receiving MMS. Yes check to make sure your APN settings are correct. If your are on WIFI, disconnect WIFI attempt to send and receive a MMS. If it goes through when your WIFI Connection is off, but cannot if your connected to WIFI. Then go into your routers setup page and see if UPnP is "ON" or "OFF". When I turned my "UPnP to OFF" and make sure your phone is not assigned a static
IP.... If your using a OpenDNS filter/Blocker check to see if its not blocking the MMS Proxy!!! Lets hope this is it!!!!
Holy crap, thank you for this!! I've had this issue pop up over the last few days and couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong. It seems that un-blocking the proxy did the trick for me, too. I took it one step further, though, and whitelisted the whole att.net domain.
Oddly enough, I noticed that with the domain un-blocked, I could not resolve proxy.mobile.att.net on my desktop. So our phones must know to hand-off to the wireless network if that happens. But with the site "blocked," it WAS being resolved, which is probably what confused the heck out things.
Anyway .. thanks again. Yes, I hit the button.

MMS will not send/receive when connected to WIFI

Does anyone else have this issue?
I didn't have this issue until I did a factory reset yesterday. I have checked my data settings for my phone and the default messaging app and I do not see a setting that would be affecting me. MMS messages download immediately if I am on only a mobile network.
Checking different websites online led me to checking the APN settings for the T-Mobile network. I checked them against the settings that are provided on the T-Mobile website and I see that mine do not match completely. Mine differs from their site in 3 places:
I am missing the MMS Protocol field,
APN type is set to default, mms, supl
and my APN protocol is set to IPv6 instead of IPv4/IPv6
I'm a new user so it won't let me link to the support page but it is below:
HTML:
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-30273
I tried manually creating an APN to match their website but I still cannot find the MMS Protocol field. Also, it switches back to the original APN whenever I check back.
I'm not sure if anyone else has had this issue but I think my next step is to call their customer service and see if they can reset something on their end.

Pixel 2 APN problem after Nov security update.

Hi all,
Prior to today, my wife's Pixel 2 had been working fine using cellular data and MMS on an AT&T MVNO - Airvoice Wireless. This morning I Installed the November security update. This afternoon, cellular data was not working. Found out that the Airvoice Wireless APN was missing from the phone's set up. Tried entering it several times but each time when I pressed 'Save' there was no AV APN. Tried again entering a few settings at a time. All was good until I changed the second to last APN setting, ' MVNO type', from the default entry of 'GID', to 'None'. As soon as I changed the entry to 'None' and saved the APN, the AV Wireless APN disappeared. I reentered the APN settings yet again and left MVNO type set to GID. Data works, but MMS does not.
I know that when I initially set up the phone, MVNO type was set to 'None' per the recommended AV settings. Its set to None on my Nexus 5X and everything works. Something has changed, and I am assuming that the latest security update is the cause.
I've Googled MVNO type but haven't really found an explanation for the MVNO type settings options. In addition, when any of the available options other than None is selected; SPN, IMSI, or GID, another field, 'MVNO value' becomes active. It has a 4 digit hex number and I have no idea what it needs to be set too.
Next steps will be to call AV customer support and/or Google support. (Really hoping I don't have to do a factory reset)
I want to see if anyone else has experienced this issue or has any recommendations.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
Frank
Same problem here. I use Consumer Cellular that uses ATT towers and APN was gone
Called Google and they admitted to the problem. Tried to get me to reset it or send me a another phone.
I just went to Consumer Cellular web site and found the APN and created a new one
Running ok now
BTW the way I left MVNO type as GID and appears to be ok ...My 5x APN is fine
