Market 3.4.4 - Painfully Slow! - Android General

I had the update to the market 3.4.4 about a month ago.
I noticed real speed improvemmets over the previous market 3.1.5.
However, recently it has slowed down soon much its ridiculous.
Starting up takes about 1minute to load the home page.
Clicking on an app takes 1min to load the pictures.
Its unbearable and painfully slow. Do your other devices have this problem too? What can I do?Thanks.

Did you install or change anything around the time it started getting slow? Do you have a nandroid backup you could roll back to? Failing that i would probably do a factory reset.
Wouldn't want to tolerate having a slow Market again after the speed improvements of 3.4.4.

For me it is the fastest market version I have ever used ... much stable for me I must say...

Hi,
Nope, didn't tamper or change anything
I'm on CM7 ATM, I don't have a older NAND backup of it... I have one which I'm made only yesterday!
Although I do have a Sense 3.5 ROM backup and MIUI backup.
I might teat them out later
Thanks for the help guys!

I always thought Apple's App Store was equally slow (If not slower). Perhaps it's just a given that app stores are to always be slow

It's slow as hell on my ancient 2nd gen iPod touch. But on a newer iPhone 4s, ipad etc, its lightning
And android market 2.x was the fastest app store ever!!
Why take away the speed Google?

Ok...
It's been a while...
I've recently moved back to Sense 3.5 Rom, and now my market is fast again.
I guess there was some corruption in my set up on CM7

Can sense be avoided with another launcher?

Im going to be switching to T-Mobile and the Sensation looks like the top phone at the moment. Unfortunately, sense slows this phone BIG TIME. Can i just bypass that with another launcher?
Yes, just install one from the market, push home and it will give you an option. that's just the launcher tho, not the whole system sense integration. But this phone was made for sense (interface not launcher, I personally use go launcher), I haven't noticed any lag.

Yes and no. The problem most people have isn't with the interface but with how much resources it takes up. If you add another launcher you don't reduce the usage of sense. If you just want a different interface then yes you can drop another one on top. From my experience ADW is slow as dirt on this device so i wouldn't recommend that one but i've heard people have had success with launcher pro
For me launcher pro and adw are slow. The but go Launcher runs great. Very smooth.

Its quite sad as the hardware is pretty solid. They killed the phone with the overhead of sense 3.0 though

Yeah even though they are simply overlays and would only take up more resources, I tried both ADW and Launcher Pro (my usual) on my Sensation... both were ridiculously slow to the point of "Well screw this I'm sticking with Sense till they root this thing!"

Well hang on there a sec, I didn't say the phone itself was laggy... in fact quite the opposite this thing flies. It was only ADW/Launcher Pro that lagged it out. I have had NO complaints with it's snappiness at all, and I'm harsh on judging my phones! This one has given me no reason to ***** about the speed... I just prefer stock Android over Sense, which even though it has some great features, still bugs me aesthetically.
I too was worried after I played with an in-store unit and noticed it laggy, but I think that is a simple result of everyone and their mother going in there and messing with it. All I can say is don't take the in-store performance too seriously... mine has acted nothing like the store unit did.

Cool thanks for that. I am trying to get over sense being just too much(I have an X now) as I like more clean and mean. Yeah, pure google does lack a lot. If the galaxay II doesn't hit sensation it is.
I have been VERY happy with mine and I don't regret not waiting for the Hercules at all.
Sense is an entire UI integration made by HTC. It is not just a simple home app that you can replace (although you can replace the Sense launcher with something better like ADW). Unless you install an AOSP ROM like CyanogenMod when the phone is rooted you will NEVER be rid of Sense no matter how many bloatware apps you remove or HTC components you freeze. Period. End of story.
Is there anything about that you didn't understand?

I really have to laugh at those who say ADW is slow on the Sensation. Maybe you all don't know how to optimize the settings gs but you couldn't be more wrong. I have been running ADW for the past month and everything in the UI is instant and much faster than Sense. I will make a video tomorrow night so there is no issue of he said, she said. I love to see a post with a mature, dignified, helpful approach... So, what approach were YOU going for?
Listen bud... try to imagine a world where posting unnecessary (ie completely unhelpful and rude) garbage like this does NOT in fact impress anyone. I know man... I sure wish it did too. I'm super glad that ADW runs buttery smooth for you, and had you responded with a helpful "Hey ADW runs great for me, here's how I have it configured..." I would have listened and actually could have respected you. Instead, you post trash like "I laugh at those, I'm right you're wrong" etc... As such I couldn't care less what you have to say.
Mm'kay? Thanks buddy...

sorry if this is a little off topic... but when there is a bunch of sense-free roms out... can you then just find an apk of the launcher, etc and install that to rid the rest of the bloat? as i find the menu layout of sense a little better than the menu/quick buttons of things like ADW, etc

Old market

Hello, my market is the new 3.0something market, how can I go back to the original market? Help!
if you installed the apk, you can just uninstall it from applications otherwise i don't think you can. Even if you do manage to do it it would probably update itself again.
You can download the original apk from here and install it in recovery.
Ciao
i hope they will bring out an update for the new market soon, i think it's pretty pretty slow!
I agree it would update itself. nothing to do
The new market has some nice features, but I agree that out is pretty slow.I noticed that using SSH tunnel speeds up things.probably three amount of DNS requests is pretty high and handled quicker this way not using wifi.anyways a upgrade is really required and I am sure they will speed things in the best future (hopefully).

Initially i installed new market as soon as it was out via APK and it was a bit painful to say the least. I went back to the old one and gave it a month then the auto update came through and it's been ok since. Must have ironed out the earlier crinkles before final rollout?
I'm still waiting for the auto update. Seems to be a very slow process.

I've given it a week. I couldn't take it any more! I may have been able to overlook the lag, but the added annoyance of the missing 'update' button for new app updates was just too much. Every day having to clear data before updates worked. Trust me the new looks wear thin quickly!

Funny I'm using Insertcoin 3.4.0 that you have listed in your sig. It's just the new market is much more image intensive and take a while to initially load. I speed test in the 4-6mbps range with my HSPA+ and it still takes a few seconds of watching the "loading" screen when I first launch market. On edge it can take 10-15 seconds.
I wasn't aware that the market actually notified you about there being the actual market updates, I thought it updated itself silently behind the scenes.

[Q] Newer Market coming?

Does the MT4GS stock have a chance of getting a market update? A friend has a MT4G and it got the new market a while back.
Newer market has a few features I am looking for and this older market is not cutting it.
Any information is helpful.
It should automatically update. There should be a way to sideload the market if it doesn't update automatically.
@Lime - Right I saw it automatically update on the MyTouch 4G and thought maybe the Doubleshot would get the update soon. It hasn't. It's been months.
When you visit the market there is no "market" to update. As it is a system app.
Please keep the thoughts coming.
It is a known bug that market updater is broken on the 4G Slide. I am not sure if the 1.55 update fixed it but it doesn't seem so.
Edit: ok so I uninstalled the updates and cleared cache. It went back to the old market and it updated but not to the new one though. But 1.55 did fix the market updater. So if you don't grab the newest version below it should update eventually.

Google Play is likely a less confusing name than "market" plus as not everything costs money it is a softer sound. Also likely some arguement can be made that games, movies, books, and music are all more "play" oriented.
Now if I could just get the last market to update...I'm not even worried about play right now.

Lets say your watching a youtube video. Press pause, hit home and then go into your messaging app. Now hit the multitasking button and then try to go back to your youtube video.
But heres the problem.

WHY!?!?!
thats not how multitasking is supposed to work...
how can we get this fixed?

The issue in terms of multitasking is really just a lack of RAM. I know that the One XL got an update where they managed to get another 100 mb of RAM out of it to improve multitasking, but who knows...

Youtube always dumps the stream cache when you leave the app, is this supposed to be new?
The GS2 has something like 200 more megs of RAM to use compared to the One S, which might as well be the difference between multitasking that works and one that doesn't at all.
So far the only phone that doesn't have multitasking issues that launched with ICS is the US variant Galaxy S3.

I just tried it on a Desire HD. I went from a youtube video, to messaging. When I got back to youtube, it dumped the cache and had to buffer the video for a while before it started again. Is that what you're experiencing?
On my One S, when I leave the YouTube app the video pauses. When I go back into the YouTube app, it starts replaying from where it left off. It does take a second or two for it to prepare the video for playback, but overall it is pretty seamless. Compare that to my laptop where the YouTube video replays instantly (at least the sound does) but the video is all choppy for several seconds until it catches up.
One of the main new developments of android ICS was the improved multitasking functionality, and manufacturers have poorly understood the concept. To have more fluid multitasking your priority lies on increasing RAM over having a fancier quad-core processor! Something well shown by the HTC one S with is S4 dual-core that is able run apps very smoothly, rivalling the One X, but cant run many of them.
hm so i should have gotten the s3 then lol.
but after feeling how this phone is and just the quality and how nice htc sense is idk if i can go back.
they just need to give the next phone 2gbs of ram!
If you install a stock ics or jb rom you won't have this issue. I didn't mind Sense on this phone but the multitasking is brutal. I can't take it... The recent apps implementation is brutal and more time consuming than just going back to the home screen and app drawer. Never mind that it won't cache apps properly..
All the talk of stream lining Sense 4.0 is a joke. A sense rom is almost half a gig, I stock rom is a third of that, come on!
