They're not going to use their time to teach you how to port if you don't already know the basics, they're all working on their own projects. My advice would be to learn how to do it yourself using Google. There are plenty of ROM porting guides out there, but porting ICS to this phone might be a little out of your league for now.

Wouldnt it be easier to port from an epic 4g aswell ?? i think its a more similar phone id start by just looking at any piece of info on porting thats out there
Check out this link and google the hell out of porting and find many guides like this one.. This one is well written from what i have read. http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/porting-android

This will help you with porting a vibrant ROM to the SGS4G, but I don't think it will be useful for ICS. From what I have read, we don't have a true ICS ROM (support) yet.

Does the epic 4g have the 16gb internel sdcard like Cappy and Vibrant? Or is it formatted like the SGS4G and use the externel sdcard?

Im pretty sure its the closest thing to a SGS4g right now.. also for porting vibrant this was posted in our forums a long long time ago.. i don't think anyone has successfully used it yet.

Im checking it out now seeing how it works. Ill keep ya updated if anything cool happens lol.

Epic 4G ROM on Nexus S 4G

Hardware is identical except that NS4G has the NFC and no flip keyboard.
I bet if you flash one of their ROMs and then Netarchy's kernel it'll work just fine.
What do you think?
No... dear lord... just no
I posted over at the Epic forum and they got ours to work on the Epic. But it doesn't just work out of the box. There are some things which need to be moded.

oh you guys are so smart with those comments
Can u post the rom for epic 4g. Ill do it
Uncle Jimmy says hello
No, it's not a matter of doing it. This was a question to someone who could answer it. Obviously the two you've seen were not technically oriented to be able to even have a guess.
The answer to this, if you follow the link I posted from the epic forum, is that some minor adjustments need to be made to the ROM it'self before it can be successfully flashed following with a kernel. If you don't, you'll get an error in the recovery or at best the phone will boot but not have all the functions.
So the guys from the Epic forum answered my question and they are happy I brought it up because they'll have a pure GB ROM on their phone with all the new stuff included.
Makes me wish I got the Epic. At least there, my questions would have been answered better.

wow first, they can boot a stock aosp rom because they have a .35 cm7 kernel, we on the other hand dont have a .32 kernel, or a .35 touchwiz kernel. and yes most of the rom.. should work (save for anything to do with radio) on the epic (again with the correct kernel) and most of the people there are happy because any thoughts of gingerbread give them giggles. they have a gb rom already, its cm7 and its halfway working, but it wont be because of teh nexus s 4g. its because they have some of teh best devs working on it. the reason why their rom wont work is because touchwiz is heavily integrated into it, we dont have the support for that (yet, who knows what someone may try to port over) prime example look at the sense rom and tell me how many of those things are working? the epic is as close to the nexus s 4g as it is to the motorola razr. they share the same radio and chipset and a few other random parts and pieces how the ril is used is completely different, how the gps is run is totally different.
how's that for an answer? if you wanna swap to the epic i know plenty of guys that are in the epic irc channel that would gladly trade with you.
Thank you. That was better than the other post.

[SHOCKED] Even i9001 has already build their cyanogenmod! Where is the i9003 one?

Any one has witness this? Mr. Netchip from i9001 forum has already build their cyanogenmod test build today! Where is i9003 one?
(I am not blaming anyone, I would make my very effort in helping any of us who would like to make our phone better, our phone must gain the thing that other have also!)
Things we ought to do to make our phone better:
Cyanogenmod 7 (Can wait until the Final release come up)
MIUI (Somehow we are requesting, but still waiting...)
TV-out (Researching is in progress, but we have to get a more update source for doing it. Gaining other developers support is also very important. May be some developer from Motorola Milestone or LG optimus black can help.)
A complete stable enough kernel, can be overclocked to 1.2 Ghz or more and with some more features. (I believe our phone has enough top-level developer to do this. But the most important things is we must wait for a better and updated stock kernel. I think Samsung will release its forth stable GingerBread ROM in the upcoming days. Probably an Asia ROM.)
I fell confident to our phone because our phone has a potential to be better. We have to gain more support from some other place. I suggest we can co-operate with developers from LG optimus black, they have their oc kernel too. But stable. We have many similarities, both have a chipset TI OMAP 3630, same display resolution, both have open source kernel, also waiting for porting cyanogenmod, miui etc.
Well, talked so much about LG optimus black. At last I hope everyone in i9003 can help together to fight for a better future for our phone...
---------- Post added at 06:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:55 PM ----------
Also, one more thing we should fight for:
Tell everybody in the world, i9003 is different from i9000! We should have a different forum!!!

the i9001 build doesnt work!!
and fyi, they dont even have cwm!!!
Right! i9001 has CM7? I think we need to take a giant leap and port cm7! Let's see what happens! Ther reason why our phon eis not populare is because many people are going for a S or S2 with a cost of only some extra bucks! Our phone is only populare in Asia-Pacific region! We also need experienced Developers! Each and every i9003 XDA user is learning developement! (Which is a very very very good thing!) And , hence, we can soon make our phone better!
Cm7 for i9003!
All developers unite! !!!
A call to arms! !

we would build an developers group with i9003 1st, to start...
and i hope others who have much income can do have a donation for this group so that they can buy a beer..
I have an idea. I will be downloading cm7 for i9000. I can see the structure of the file and I can try porting it! I would suggest everybody to download a CWM flashable zip and try this thing out. Also, I will not be availabel until 26th due to some personal reasons. The first thing I begin to do in the morning of September 26th will be to work on the structure and the port. I think, I can run CM7 on a stock CWM kernal! Let's wait and watch! Just wait......And Watch! ;-;
That sounds great!
@ rohan
rohan i really appreciate ur efforts. But galaxy s has complete different file structure & modified kernal than galaxy sl.
I said again & again & still saying that plz dont discuss by creating threads only. Instead of this plz contact cynogen mod developers & convince them to work for us. I really observed one thing that many people on our forum just want thing without any effort. By just writing here that we want CM7 not a single developer will look into ur thread even. If we approach other super developer and literally beg them to help us then @ least they will start to think upon our request. It may be successful or not but at least outer world will come to know the potential & spirit we all people have for our phone.

The dev who's working on the cm7 thing for the i9001 , 'netchip', does NOT own the phone and He's currently got a kernel for sgs2 (which he uses) too..
So i think we should ask him to help us with porting the cyanogen mod to our phone.. What say ??

please, somebody with GB, can you tell me if we have the following files in the filesystem:
/system/vendor/* (for example /system/vendor/bin/gpsd, /system/vendor/etc/gps.xml, /system/vendor/lib/hw/gps.aries.so)
/system/lib/libsamsungcamera.so
/radio/modem.bin
I asked it here but nobody answer it...
These files (and many more) need to make CM7 work with our environment

Galaxy Ace got cm7
i9003 deserves cm7
even my old samsung galaxy i5700 got cm7 :/
I tried attempting in doing what I can to get CM7 looked into, problem lies in, Even if we get 90% into completing it, Without a hacked/broken down kernel, there's no way we can enjoy the benefits.
I have seen 2 GT-I9003 installed in http://stats.cyanogenmod.com/.
I think someone trying to do.

Question about porting a rom

Sorry in advance if this should be in Q&A (mod please move if inappropriate) but my question has to do with development so....
Anyway.. was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any guides or helpful threads that would help teach me how to port a rom. I am wanting to start to learn how to make custom ROMS and figured this would be a good place to start as the heavy lifting has already been done by the real devs...
Specifically looking to port lets say a nexus S rom for use with the NS4g for now.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
I was wondering the same thing. It seems like so much good is coming from the Nexus S section, that I would like to help bring it to the 4g side.

Yes, I know. Me too as well, but there's no guides on porting or I just can't find any. If anyone knows any guides on porting, point us fellows in that direction. thanks!
Man... kinda sux... no one can help at all?
First, this belongs in Q & A, hence no answer , second, it should be pretty easy, nandroid, switch out rild, and rils, make correct edits to build prop, and a kernel for ns4g and you should be good to go.
Are there any guides out there that perhaps detail this process a little bit, I would like to start porting some ns roms over to ns4g. I followed the steps provided by the previous post, and got most everything booting for the new miui rom with ICS however the wifi still doesn't work and it will not allow me to flash a different kernel as afterwards it refuses to boot. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'd like to make you guys a ROM

Hello, I am new to XDA-Developers and so this isn't in the Development forum and I'm sorry for that. What I need to ask is about making a ROM. I want to make a ROM out of the AOSP Jelly Bean ROM, and port it to the Triumph:laugh:, but I don't know about compatibility issues. My question is: Do any of you guys know if the Triumph is compatible with dsixda's ROM Kitchen? It isn't on the supported devices list, but dsixda himself said that more devices might work with it, so if any of you have tried using the Kitchen I'd like your help. Thanks.
Good to see that you're motivated, but there's already a major roadblock to widespread ICS adoption on the Triumph because the camera won't work and the files needed to get it working aren't publicly available. You'll probably run into the same issues, making this project kinda dead in the water.
Good luck but the kitchen can only do so much. If you do use it, you will have to make manual edits to get things to work. But I don't think you can just port JB to our phones, especially with the kitchen. You will need to build from source, I am pretty sure. But don't let me stop you, just trying to give you a heads up. Try some things out and then ask some questions in the forums and somebody should be able to help you get on the right path.

I am going to try an experimental build on my friend's Triumph (I don't have one) and I'll post in this thread the results, and then I'll go from there.
I don't think that dsixda's kitchen works with the Motorola Triumph. I currently use it for the Galaxy S2 SGH-t989! But in the near future updates he may have add support for that device! And if you wanted to do Jelly Bean then you would have to get the android source code and build it from source! Building from source is much harder than building from port.
I really hope this helped and I wish you the best of luck with your development!

[Q] Help..

Can anyone provide some information on how to port roms from the SII to this considering they have the same hardware so newbs (like myself) can try to help with the roms for this phone? Maybe an expierenced developer with time can help us with porting the roms? Thank You in advance.
Well I'm sure there's a lot of guides on porting out on the web. But probably not specific to the blaze. There has been some ports done by erikmm although they are not completely functional, if you don't need camera take a look at them I'm not so sure if they can be daily drivers yet. Have you tried out darkknight rom though? I'm completely satisfied with it. I would suggest it to anyone with the blaze.
Sent from my SGH-T769
I totally agree with you on the darkside rom... One of the best roms available. But Wouldn't it be cool if anyone with free time started to port roms from SII to this phone??
