[Q] Help.. - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Can anyone provide some information on how to port roms from the SII to this considering they have the same hardware so newbs (like myself) can try to help with the roms for this phone? Maybe an expierenced developer with time can help us with porting the roms? Thank You in advance.

Well I'm sure there's a lot of guides on porting out on the web. But probably not specific to the blaze. There has been some ports done by erikmm although they are not completely functional, if you don't need camera take a look at them I'm not so sure if they can be daily drivers yet. Have you tried out darkknight rom though? I'm completely satisfied with it. I would suggest it to anyone with the blaze.

I totally agree with you on the darkside rom... One of the best roms available. But Wouldn't it be cool if anyone with free time started to port roms from SII to this phone??

[Q] Nooby question about ROMs

Hey guys, I'm new to rooting and Androids. I couldn't find any information, so I came here for help. I have a rooted Samsung Transform.
1. Do I need to have a special ROM made for my device specifically? Or will any ROM work?
2. If so do you know of any ROMs for it?
Thanks for your time!
ROMs are made specifically for your device.

Alright, thanks! Do you (or anybody reading this) know if there are any ROMs for the Samsung Transform? I can't seem to find any...
I dont think there are goiong to be an ROMs for this device for a while, or maybe never. Its a mid ranged andriod phone so not that many people ( Compared to those with high end devices ) who are apart of XDA will get it. Also its only been out for a month or so. It just doesnt seem like there are going to be ROMs for this device currently
Yeah. I was thinking the same thing, was just hoping someone would say something different :/

[Q] Want to learn to Port ROMs from Vibrant to the SGS4G!

The Rom that i would like to learn to port is the Rom from Neobuddy, which is an ICS port to the vibrant! Can I get a Dev, or two or three to help me to learn to do this please? (RaverX3X, Whitehawkx, Krylon.......The Super Devs! lol)
Thank you in advance!

They're not going to use their time to teach you how to port if you don't already know the basics, they're all working on their own projects. My advice would be to learn how to do it yourself using Google. There are plenty of ROM porting guides out there, but porting ICS to this phone might be a little out of your league for now.
Wouldnt it be easier to port from an epic 4g aswell ?? i think its a more similar phone id start by just looking at any piece of info on porting thats out there
Check out this link and google the hell out of porting and find many guides like this one.. This one is well written from what i have read. http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/porting-android

This will help you with porting a vibrant ROM to the SGS4G, but I don't think it will be useful for ICS. From what I have read, we don't have a true ICS ROM (support) yet.

Does the epic 4g have the 16gb internel sdcard like Cappy and Vibrant? Or is it formatted like the SGS4G and use the externel sdcard?
Im pretty sure its the closest thing to a SGS4g right now.. also for porting vibrant this was posted in our forums a long long time ago.. i don't think anyone has successfully used it yet.

How hard is creating a kernel for this device?

So I am fed up with T-Mobile and Samsung not releasing a ics update for this phone. I wan't to try the new features like facelock and android beam ( really helpful). Well can we start from scratch also is there a guide to do that? It would be really awesome if someone posted a link for it.
Well I'm not sure what you are asking but are you saying if we can do a ICS kernel without source? Yes it's possible if we use the s2 source but with heavy modifications to run on our phone. Doubt there is a guide for it anywhere, though if you have an understanding of Linux kernels and a few languages like C, C++ and Java you can help us get there.
Another way we can get cm9 or any ics varient we can modify our current 2.6.35.11+ kernel to make it run cm9.
I suggest or rather think the easiest way is the waiting way because by the time you or I or anyone gets anything close to a working build the source will drop. This would be a good idea if the blaze wasn't getting ICS at all but it is.
So for now lets enjoy GB a little more I got a rom update uploading and dwitherell is also updating his awesome rom

If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol
Okay still love the darknight rom although holo launcher gets somewhat laggy sometimes.. but is there a guide for modifying the kernel to create cm9? any help would be appreciated.

Well i just release build8 and no more holo launcher
As for a guide, there isn't one. There's guides on how to make your own kernel from the source drop and the initramfs from a stock rom but to modify the 2.6.35.11(gb) kernel to work with cm9/ics takes a lot of work and a lot of backporting and unfortunately every kernel is different as every phone is which is why no guide is ever accurate. Honestly, the best way to contribute is learn a few languages and start learning slowly. Unless, of course, you have knowledge on linux kernels then that'd be awesome
Either way i started a channel on irc #teamfah-q. That is where team fah-q(merwin, flyers00, thomas.raines, and myself) hangs out and shares ideas with each other and talk about changes and we do drop leaks to our builds and mods and the such. Join us on the channel.

I tried exactly this once... and let me tell you, it's REALLY difficult. I started with a T989 kernel and after months of work, still had a non-booting kernel.
I'm starting again, but moving much slower since I have an S3 now. I'm also trying to get a "console" on the device so I can see if the thing is actually booting at all.
Joy.
Good luck if you want to start in on this, I wish you the best

[Q] How to port from a device with different hardware?

Hey XDA,
I have been around for a while, gone through two phones and have had no problems rooting, flashing ROMs, etc. thanks to all of the amazing people on the site. I have come to a point though, that I am interested in learning to port ROMs (and maybe even build a ROM from AOSP, but I am taking this one step at a time). I have looked all over the Chef Central -> Android section and the Q & A section and have been unable to find a solid guide on porting ROMs from a device with different hardware than the device you want to port to. I am sorry if this has been answered elsewhere and I try to contribute as much as I can. I hope I am not inconveniencing anyone too much. If a thread already exists that can help me out, I would greatly appreciate a link, then you can close this thread.
I am only trying to port between the ATT and internation GS3s, so it shouldn't be too hard, right?
The ROM I am trying to port is PA 2.99 beta8.
Thanks,
#TekGadgt

I will give it a go! Thanks. I had noticed this one, but was unsure if it would work between devices with different hardware. I see now that it does. I will work on that ASAP. One more question though, what do you do about devices with different resolutions? I noticed the guide is for devices with the same resolution.

Could someone make a rom port for my phone?

I'd really appreciate it a lot if someone would port a custom ROM so I can upgrade to at least nougat I been looking everywhere for a rom and can't find one nowhere at all I'd port a rom myself but I don't have a PC no more please help thanks have a great day
Things that anyone would might consider this would need to know:
One is particularly important, the other is more of courtesy.
1. What phone it is
2. Would you be able to provide useful information since probably whoever would be building it wouldn't have the hardware themselves
