Quad core phones? - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why are some good uses for quad core besides gaming, which I think it's the only reason we need, with dual core phones that have dual core run really fast already, why do we need quad core phones?
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk

I think to take the load of the whole os off one core which will make your phone faster and smoother. Also its more power and who doesn't want thay? Also maybe better battery life

It's like asking why we need a Quad Core PC / Laptop. But seriously, it will help all around. Gaming, General use, Response, basically everything is affected in a positive way. Well almost, your wallet most likely won't be .

Lol if everything is better, what reason do we have to complain?

We really don't, but it's a matter of always wanting more. Not necessarily a bad thing .

Meh, no big deal. NEXUS PRIME is primed up to be the bad boy coming out very very soon, forget the Bionic or the SGS2.
Nexus Prime or HTC Vigor all the way
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
Big Red sure hates super-phones.
The Charge is nice, but it isn't a super-phone.
The iPhone 4 is far from it.
Man... Verizon fails again.
We'll have to see how the Nexus Prime goes.

It's being confirmed by Verizon, no SGS2 for Verizon. You can email her to get confirmation:

Here is a response someone else got from her when they asked why Verizon was not getting the SGS2:

My response from Verizon's Brenda Raney when asked why the Galaxy SII was passed up by Verizon:
"We have an exciting portfolio of devices including the 4G LTE Droid Charge by Samsung. The new Galaxy S device is a 3G device."

I was pretty upset when I found out. Especially since I was planning on selling my Charge to buy the GSII, then selling the GSII to buy the Prime.
What would suck the most is of the Prime DOESN'T come to Verizon. :/
And what about the Samsung Celox? It's almost like a GSII, but with LTE and a Super Amoled HD display.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure Big Red didn't want the SGS2 because the Charge isn't selling all that well(and most people were holding out for the GS2 instead of getting the Charge). Glad I didn't hold out, dual-core is OVERRATED. Only thing I envy is the 1gb ram. Oh lawd I want 1gb ram.

Is it really? I've only used a single core phone before(they load perfect on the Charge with those godly 4g speeds) and if cores on phones are anything like a CPU then they are wasted. Cores are used for multi-tasking plenty of applications or single-tasking core intensive applications and as far as I know there aren't any apps that would require both cores.

Where did you get that info? I'd say that the Charge is probably the best selling 4G phone on Verizon, and if it isn't, then it is definitely the 2nd best selling 4G phone.
The Charge is selling perfectly fine. Its not a blockbuster, but its not a flop either. Its expensive, so that's one thing to consider when looking at the Tbolt. I think the extra money is worth the gorgeous screen on the Charge. Considering I spend a heafty percentage of my time staring at the screen while I use my phone, I consider the screen the second most important component of the phone nipping at the heels of the radios. Motorola has the best radios.... but they don't have an lte device on vzw... yet.

Dual core makes browsing better because it can multi-load 2 things at once on web pages. For example it can load the web script on one core and flash on the other all at the same time. LTE and dual core combined make browsing spectacular. Go try the new Galaxy Tab. It's awesome.

Well, it's not EXACTLY like that, but you get the point. Dual cores just beat the crap out of single cores. My dad's X2 scores like 2500 on Quadrant bone stock with little ram left. My Charge and OG Galaxy Tab are both single core Hummingbirds...and they have NOTHING on the X2, even OC'd and with Voodoo. If you pick up a dual core device you will instantly see the difference. It's smooth as butter.
However, manufacturers had an early problem of the LTE radio toasting dual core processors. My bet is the interference of the 800mhz radio, but i'm no professional. I believe this problem is pretty much solved now.

Can android be not as smooth as iOS/WP7?

Apparently, this article claims it has a reason.Do read and comment, and if u r a dev, try to find a getaround
http://www.redmondpie.com/heres-why-androids-ui-will-never-be-as-smooth-as-ios-or-windows-phone-7/
No it's not the reason. But this:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-nexus-s-4g/120310-ics-hardware-acceleration.html
frankly ,the reason is that Android does a lot more than those crapsters
Why not find a reason why wp7 and ios doesnt implement multitasking when they first came out?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda premium
But frankly, who cares? Let's put it out clear: it's always a good idea to invest in an easier-to-develop software than on a hard-to-mantain code but fast. And that's android.
Does your phone lag? Put in a dual core. Does it lag again? Go for a quad core.
And one thing is android which is fully customizable, and one is android/windows phone which can't do quite anything out of the box.
Isnt it quad core is too much? Why dont they make tri core? Just kidding.

Ya...android is superbly growing technology but still we should not forget that iphone is one of best & smooth os. My frnd has iphone 4. Forget about open source & all those things, in just 2 min i realised that iphone is super duper smooth. Android will definitely achieve that level & even it will grow more than that one day.

Which would be better

I was wondering, What is a better phone? One with a single core processor or dual core processor?
Sent from my LT18a using xda premium
processor
well a phone with a dual processor because it has a bigger capacity and that means better performance. FYI they make phones with quad core processors
Well, it depends on what you're looking to do/get out of your phone
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I would say that a dual core phone will be more and more useful over the next short while. A quad core phone won't show its usefulness to the average person. The OS and the apps have to leverage the extra cores. But, dual core phones are already being developed for.
A dual core phone is twice as good as a single core phone.
Dual core phone is twice better...
Well all in all it depends what you aiming for like gaming or buissness etc...

not really...believe me...research about a bit more
also...no one likes to be outdone before he gets his phone...and its already
outdone by the samsung SIII and will be soon by the next TI chipset(i don't know for sure...but i think its gonna be like how the GPU in the O3D(PowerVR SGX540) outdone the O2X(Nividia tegra 2))
(well i know here its a matter of personal preferences...but still you know)
EDIT:apperently its also outdone by the S4:
"The Snapdragon S4 chipset with two powerful Krait cores and Adreno 225 graphics bested all current smartphones and will readily stand up to upcoming phones too - yes, even its quad-core sibling, the One X (and probably the rest of the quad-core phones that use Tegra 3)." from GSMArena:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_s-review-746p9.php
(although it might be outdoned here becuz the One X have more screen pixels)
the thing about tegra that its always seem to be the one that comes to the last place...but have the advantage of being released first
(but please...correct me if i am wrong)
also...i think this is the wrong thread to talk about this XD
Tegra 3 beats the Adreno 225. The Adreno 320 on the other hand is a different matter entirely.
Also, The Snapdragon S4s are the CPUs to watch. Dual Cortex A15 cores (Snapdragon 8960) seem to be able to thrash quad core Cortex A9 CPUs (Tegra 3) handily. Imagine what happens when the Kraits are released. 2.5GHz quad core Cortex A15

yeah judging on the benchs on both one x and one s....the one x gpu wins if they were on the same screen pixels
and about the cpu yeah you are definitely right...i hated the old S3
but seems like they are going in the right direction now
i mean the performance of the current s4 looks pretty decent
i also can't wait to see how the new TI chipsets would perform

If it's a snapdragon and an adreno 320 then it's already failed because there are loads of phones like that.
They surely wouldn't advertise the octa chip if it wasn't going in the GS4. However the A7 mixed with the A15 seems like a little bit of a cheat, I bet it uses the A7 95% of the time or the A15 cores are heavily throttled because it looks like they drain battery like mad, especially in a smart phone.

Exynos = 3G only
Snapdragon s4 pro = LTE
Only LTE isn't coming out till the end of the year in this region.......... wtf were they thinking?
The HTC One is another no micro sd, no removable battery, ****ty camera, sense mess of a boring phone. People say how good it looks........ looks like any other boring HTC phone to me, just like the GS4 looks like another boring Samsung GS3 variant.
