Help I think my phones been hacked, crazy messages/arabic - General Questions and Answers

So I think my phone has been hacked out something. Last few weeks I've been getting mysterious calls from blocked numbers and a caller asking for me by name only to say "thank you" and hang up as soon as I identify myself.
I'm getting these creepy messages in english, spanish, and now arabic. They are about getting back at someone, or scandal or something. I had a voicemail that said "call me back mother****er" and other crazy **** happening.
I was using some pda app to tether my phone via usb to get internet on my laptop when this happened. Its as if I was just spliced into someone elses conversation over the web. My friend was texting me using his text free number. The messages I got were not sent by him but appear from his number. On his end the messages appear to come from me. My phone also started randomly calling my friends, sending messages 20x in a row. Just crazy crap.
I'm paranoid as **** right now. Can someone translate this?
Here is the whole thing up until the Arabic. Everything up until 2:52 is us talking..
Him [2:52 PM]:
01/02:i don't know..i queried, with, "you mean the miata forum he frequents?" or also, you mean the foam he pilfered for his at home studio that he said, emil ...
Him [2:52 PM]:
02/02:said i could take.. i'm not sure, take your pick
Him [2:52 PM]:
they just moved the date they didn't add more seats
Him [2:52 PM]:
and i said april 10th
Him [2:52 PM]: 4/10
Me [2:52 PM]:
yea that works
Me [2:52 PM]:
I'll be nearing the end and eveyrthing will be done
Me [2:53 PM]:
there are lots of tickets avail, that ppl are selling, my friend is gunna hook me up
Him [2:53 PM]:
sure sure
Him [2:53 PM]:
and sometimes i feel like it's necessary
Him [2:53 PM]:
exactly, that's what i told him..it's time for a new shade
Me [2:56 PM]:
what?
Him [3:02 PM]:
simply, yeah but it's such a shame that it's form ambiguously so
Him [3:02 PM]: because you can simply count on the contingent of apes that will inevitably take over
Me [3:04 PM]:
dude i dont know what you are talking about
Him [3:06 PM]:
did you talk to him about that? he said it's not true, that he only saw it from a distance
Me [3:08 PM]:
dude, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT
Him [3:20 PM]:
i think it was the auto erotica asphyxiations
Him [3:21 PM]:
but either way, it's all about penetrating her bat cave
Him [3:37 PM]:
do you expect me to take YOUR word over that of an anonymous tipster?
Me [3:38 PM]:
dude i dont know what you are saying
STFU
Him [3:40 PM]:
fine, fine..have it your way.. I'll look into it when i have time but i can assure you, that i don't need help in sale-ing these good conditions
Me [3:41 PM]:
duuuuuuuuuuuuude
Me [3:41 PM]:
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE **** YOU ARE SAYING

Him [3:45 PM]:

dude im done with this i can't handle what you're saying
Him [3:46 PM]:

Him [3:47 PM]:
and get rid of anything that stands in the way of your dreams
Then the Arabic came in and then I got the voicemail saying "call me back mother****er".
Then today I got this text message:
[email protected]: yo muth****a, iz about to twis dis niggas cap. i seent you w/ my ***** in yo house. I been waiting fo u to show and you not goin no when iz gonna hit u up. no"
Then I got a ton of jumbled symbols and letters which I assume was more arabic (it showed up on my computer because I have that font or language add on)
Then I got this: yo no deseo que interfiriendo con mis chicas baja suma no m?s
It repeates like several times and then this: es una perra punk de asno y yo estoy a puto de ir todo loco en su asno alegre.

Maybe it's one of those things where your friends plug in your number, it texts you random stuff and they get the transcripts sent back to them.
Basically they laugh at you raging

I confirmed with everyone it could be that it is NOT them. And still doesn't explain the phone calls and arabic..

The beginning to an XDA creepypasta? I'm sold.

Might want to take this up with an authority of some kind.

The Arabic part is gibberish. Its meaningless just random alphabets. I think someone is playing a joke on you

Backup any data you want to keep and factory reset your phone TBH. However, damage may already be done and you may want to contact your provider and get a new number. Some may do that for free if you contact the police about it and provide a crime reference number.

Did you install any potentially dodgy apps? I'd say it was just a joke or your friend's free text service going weird, but then your phone wouldn't be making random calls, so it sounds like something installed on your phone.
Have you tried Googling your number to see if it's on some weird website? What OS is your phone on?
Factory resetting and changing your number seems like the best opinion. If your phone really has been hacked (unlikely) then I'd change your passwords too.

I did a factory reset and data wipe. I am still running the ginervolt from for my revolution.
We'll see if I get any more messages. The app I was using to tether my phone via usb was like pdaNet or something. It freaked out and froze my phone and computer mid chat like you see, and thats when the craziness began.
My phone wasn't randomly dialing numbers but it kept trying to call numbers I was trying to call (I called several people at work once, but then my phone called them like 10x).
Also people I was texting received tons of repeat messages. But the crazy part is that when I turned off my phone to reset it and booted back up I had the voicemail "call me back ************" from an unknown number.
its like the guy who got spliced into the texting app also called the person he was talking to but I got the message...really weird.
I changed all my passwords for all vital accounts etc. hopefully this fades.

Thanks for clarifying. Your situation sounds strange indeed but it doesn't sound like a hack. Still, changing the passwords is good for piece of mind.

I just hope someone actually isn't after me like the messages would seem to suggest lol.

Unless you pissed someone off it seems highly unlikely. I think it is, as you say, random messages from someone else's conversation. What chat service were you using? Maybe that's what caused it.

He was using some type of textfree service on his desktop computer, and I was using pdaNet 3.0 or something tethering my 4g to my laptop via usb. The app has a separate download that allows you to view and respond to your text messages via a window on your desktop.

The Arabic text is identical to the first paragraph of this article:
http://www.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/01579360-A7DA-44ED-A1BF-B20B343F7B8B.htm
It's roughly says, "Al-Azhar (An Islamic institute based in Egypt) assures the need to keep the goals of the Egyptian revolution on track, while asking the council of armed forces to hand the country's rule back to civilians on time.".

Interesting. So does anyone have a theory about what could have happened?
Why I got text messages, voicemails, and more text messages, in several different languages?

I still think someone posted your number somewhere or is using some sort of attack against you for "the lols". I don't see how it could be compromised if you wiped and ran stock.

Question is, has this stopped since the factory reset? If it's still happening, it could be to do with your number, but if not, then it's unlikely. As I said, you can also do a Google search for your number to see if it comes up anywhere if you're paranoid about that possibility.
Personally, unless you put your number online yourself or gave it to someone who'd do this kind of thing (as you've assured us you haven't), I think that's unlikely, and even if it is the case, I really don't think someone can use your number to make your phone call out - that would be because of some app installed on it.
Is your number a new one? I know someone who got a new number and kept getting lots of weird calls on it, presumably intended for someone who used the number before him on a different SIM. I guess the network recycled the number.

Sorted it out. Apparently it was an office prank with like 6 ppl involved. Man I hate my friends lol... 3 days of torture and paranoia over this ****.

I am sorry lmao. The next time mess with them back. That's what I would do.

Well at least it's not a real hack, yeah as zelendel said get 'em back
Still wondering how the phone started making extra calls and stuff if it was just getting prank messages though

Yes I do have sprint .....
been getting them after flashing Damages ROM ..but I'm on pancake now and get them..
I've been experiencing this too. I get daily texts from The Weather Channel (i know, odd) and I get 2 messages: One from TWC number, and another with the same contents from Hiddenaddresssender.

I never gotten those WTC text messages..
but whenever someone sends me a picture and I download it...it looks like it's downloading, then it shows me the "hiddensenderaddressr" message..
I uninstalled Handcent to see if that's the problem though....

Well I'm on Pancake ROM and I don't plan on using any 2.1 ROM's until we get one that doesn't mess up our phones..
I just used the stock mms app and it got the same message..
so it's not Handcent...
Used to get it all the time. Either your wifi is on when you're receiving a mms or you have the dreaded mms issue. You could try ##3282# , but most likely you'll need to hard reset.

The last build I used I was able to send and receive MMS while connected to wireless... it may have been the Fresh Eris build though.. I thought it was DC but I could be wrong.

##3282# just re-activates your phone. Its not a hard reset. You wont lose anything. Id try that first before a hard reset. In my experience its just a temparary fix though. It will most likely happen again at some point. Does your phone have the htc logo on the back?

yes I have the HTC logo....i don't have one of those "with Google" phone..

No. Its the same process theyre using to fix the data service issue.
1. Open up your Dialer and enter ##3282#
2. You will be asked select either View Mode or Edit Mode, select Edit Mode.
3. When you are asked for a password you must enter your MSL.
4. Select Username then click your Menu Button
5. Click Restore
6. All of the Data Settings for your account will be restored and your phone will reboot.
7. When it turns back on and Sense UI completely loads then a message saying your phone is being activated will appear, the process takes about 3 minutes.
8. After your phone has been reactivated you need to update your Profile and PRL from settings.
If your phone skipped the activation part you may need to call customer support and tell them that your phone is telling you to continue activation.
Thats pretty much it. Your phone will reboot twice and then you can send yourself a mms msg to see if it worked. If not youll need to hard reset. Like I said its a temparary fix. I finally told sprint I was tired of having to hard reset my phone all the time and they sent me a replacement phone with the google brand. No problems since. If you call tech support theyll walk you through the same process after having you pull your battery and send yourself a mms and some other useless trouble shooting procedures.
Just did it...thanks alot amigo...

Rom doesnt matter. It was happening to me even when I was using stock and pretty much every other rom I ever used. Only other thing to do is the hard reset. I researched this issue pretty much since I got my hero last year. Nobody seems to know why. Like I said if you complain enough to Sprint they might replace it for you. Or the official release may fix it. Or maybe damages latest will do the trick. He says hes got it all figured it out...
Looks like I'm going to have to wait for the 2.1 update though..
Damages latest didn't do the trick, flashed it last night and it was the same thing..

[Q] I received a text message from a single digit number "1"... What the heck?
The message is still in my Samsung Galaxy S2 inbox and contains this:
message size:32kb
expires: 9:04PM, Oct 25
Download
where "Download" is a clickable button and when I click it it changes to "Downloading", then after a few moments it changes back to "Download".
Any idea what it might be?
So you downloaded unknown software from a suspicious number onto your phone because it told you to?
Ummm... Quickly You need to pm me your bank account details and any applicable passwords plus personal identification information. If someone is going to scam you and get all your stuff it should be me, at least im honest about it, plus you have to now cause I asked you to.
Yeah, but nothing happened after, android didn't prompt me to install anything. Is it possible that it installed by itself? And how can such a message arrive to me anyway? Do you think its from an installed app??
My phone is 100% stock and not rooted. What in the heck is this? If its THAT easy to get a security hole, then that makes the market a scary place!

Whats the file name? go to where your phone stores downloads and find out. if nothing is there check running applications. Is anything running that shouldn't have been. can you provide a screenshot of the text message?
I'm shocked that you presses download, not knowing where the message came from. Were you THAT curious?
I hope nothing is going to happen to your device, but in the future, you might want to ask first before pressing anything.

I think you're fine. I just recieved a similar message from 1. I think it was someone 'replying all' to a mass text because a second later that message from 1 disappeared and was replaced by an actual text. PS, I'm not an expert.

same issue sorta
see i have been getting texts like this myself it started just yesterday when a friend said he would send me a video of something (mms video) and so i never got it but instead a number listed as 1 had sent a message with no subject it was a download. i asked my friend to send again and it went through to his number instead just fine (hes using an iphone) so i just deleted the conversation with the number 1 and moved on but then my girlfriend sent a video to me and the same thing happened. im curious if its an error having to do wth the sending of video or if its something more concerning. (my girlfriend is on android) the whole thing here is taht they where sending me a video and that i got a message that i could download supposedly a video using the number 1 instead of from the person who said they where sending something(its concerning
Well that was rude. Way to be a ****
I've gotten that text message twice on two different phones and my phone auto magically started downloading? My phone is fine after every time but it's just so weird to me my recent message sent to me and then dissapeared

[Q] stolen phone need help

Hi guys.
Please help, my phone was stolen earlier today and my SIM card is removed from the phone.
My gmail accoount is still in use and I have my IMEI number.
Is there a way to find out the phone number of that SIM card that uses my phone, so I can text this someone or try to call it?
have some data on the phone which is very important for my work, can't afford of losing it.
Please help me if there is a way, gmail daschbord also does't show that new number in use.
Please help.
Prevention is better than cure,
Apps like finding your lost phone or clearing your data if stolen are pretty useless, a simple factory reset removes everything.
Some of my friends have auto sync on for dropbox, so any pictures taken gets sync(in the event where the thief snap a duck picture of himself it gets sync to his account).
Basically unless u have a sync app installed, there isnt much hope to repossess the data.
As for the imei, not sure as where i am from it doesnt really matter, if your phone gets stolen, you downgrade to a 3690 until u can save up for a new one.

Thank you Fear. know that prevention is better but I messed up.
hope there is a way to find out that number, just hope that it wont be late.
my work is gone...
There are some of the things you can do-
If you had any remote tracking enabled software in phone use it.antivirus companies like Kaspersky/NOD32 enables device stolen tracking features and allows you to remotely swipe, sms from the stolen phone through online web management.
If your gmail account is in use.use the Gmail account activities for the last login information.you can track based on last logged in IP that who and from where its getting used.launch the police complaint and with phone operator too.the more proofs the faster response.
Something like prey would have been ideal. p r e y p r o j e c t d o t c o m
And you should always backup important information.
Just try to remember this in future. Your phone and all your info are gone, sorry.

An IMEI number is useful if the phone connects to a carrier's network.
I'd contact your carrier if you haven't already.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I497 using Tapatalk
Sorry, forgot to mention before. If you report the IMEI to the police then they can stop it being sold on to second hand shops. Doesn't help your situation though.
first thank you all for the help.
tried with the carrier and the police but no luck. they blow me off both of them.
ploce says to wait, carrier say call the police...
but I wonder, in my gmail account I could see my number, why can't I see another number that's using my phone?
What carrier? Did u backup to drop box or anything? If u have the imei report the device stolen to carrier. At least they can deactivate phone so they can't use it anymore. As for getting ur data back you might have to kiss it good bye.

found a file called smartcall. Does anyone know what it is?

Hi, i have found a file called smartcall on my phone. When you click on it it goes to my Microsoft word documents. I've noticed over the last three or four weeks I've had notifications by e-mail that someone has tryed to get into my Microsoft account. I have no idea how it got on my phone or what its for?? A really strange thing happened to me on the 12th.Jan. Two friends of mine plus my dad were sent text messages of some photos of me that were taken from my CM security which takes snapshots of people trying to get into your phone/tablet etc. Well sometimes I put the code in wrong more than three times and takes a pic of me. Someone has managed to get hold of those pictures and sent them via text. Also there were a couple of map references showing where i live saying I need help!! Can anyone please tell me what's going on here. I have explained to my phone providers that it wasn't me who sent the texts. Even though it showed my mb number it wasn't me as my phone was completely broken. It's all very bizarre and scary.

"Device Health keeps stopping" message popping up?

Hi, I'm currently on the AT&T carrier on Oreo 8.0.0 ( G955USQU2CRC5, latest update ) and a random message pops up randomly saying that "Device Health has stopped" or "Device Health keeps stopping".
The only option is "Close app" and when I hit it, all it does is close the message for it to pop up again randomly.

Could this be part of the 8.0.0 update?
Every time I Google this message, the only thing I find is posts about S Health which I don't think this is.
I'd look through your apps under settings see if you find it select show system apps as well. Delete data if you find it. It's something I would've done.

That's the thing, nothing under apps, even with system apps enabled, shows under "Device Health." The closest thing I have to this is the one for Samsung health and I've already tried to clear cache, delete data, force stop, etc. It doesn't do anything.
I've tried resetting the phone, reflashing the phone, resetting app permissions, and making sure I don't download too many apps, but it always ends with the same result.
I'm starting to think this is an AT&T specific problem or something, so I might try reflashing some other version later.

I've tried resetting the phone, reflashing the phone, resetting app permissions, and making sure I don't download too many apps, but it always ends with the same result.
I'm starting to think this is an AT&T specific problem or something, so I might try reflashing some other version later.

Try this. Go to device maintenance under settings, then on the top right click what looks like a piece of paper you'll see apps that keeps crashing. Maybe you'll find it there click on it and it should take you to the app information. That is if AT&T phones have it

Samsung+ forum maybe they could help
I have the same issue, have had it about a month now since I got Oreo.
This past weekend I did a factory reset. The issue was gone for about 2 days, now today it's back. I looked in the updates app lists and nothing updated that looks like it would be causing this.
All I really know is this is annoying as hell. Some days I know I click that error off well over 100 times, probably over 200. Most times it pops up you hit it 6-8 times to clear it.
edit - S8 here - Also RC5 version

I have fixed my phone, but it's a bit extensive and maybe not worth it depending on what you do on your phone.
I tried to follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/snap-guide-flashing-standard-fw-carrier-t3627255
and used the unlocked firmware and so far, on Oreo, I haven't gotten that message.
I also don't have any bloatware from AT&T so that's also a plus.
Just a thought, though.

So, simply unlocking it and not having ATT apps did the trick?
What about Samsungs apps?
I've rooted in the past but haven't done so recently, I'll definitely look into this.
Thanks.

edit - BTW I just realized this is the S8+ forum, for anyone else that reads this and has an S8 you need to go there. Some of the downloads are different.

Samsung apps are installed and they work, just no carrier specific bloatware.
Also I believe that the phone is not actually unlocked, rather it only uses the unlocked firmware.
Just follow the "Carrier Switching" section with the XAA CSC code and then the "Flashing Unlocked Firmware" if you want to do what I did.
Did anyone find a solution for this? My ATT LG Phoenix II is doing the exact same thing and has been for the last couple weeks except it does it every 10 to 15 seconds so the phone is basically useless. I can find no Device Health application on the phone or even one that looks like it might be causing this.
Resolution to "Device Health Keeps Stopping"?
Did you find a resolution to this problem? If so, what action was taken?
Thank you

No. I didn't use it for a couple (few?) weeks and the next time I used the phone it still did it, but a LOT less often. The way it is now is just mildly annoying, not making the phone useless like it was. I assume there was an update that made it better but I really don't know what for sure.
Solution found?!
Good afternoon,
*
I believe I discovered a resolution to this issue. I work for a City Government as an IT Specialist in our Mobile Device Support Unit. I handle over 3000+ device for all City employees. We've come across this exact problem about 3 times since Oreo rollout. Our standard device for all employees is the Samsung Galaxy S7. We've attempted a bunch of different things, from wiping the device completely to flashing an older version (Android 6.0) on the device to no avail. Previously we found that once EVERY APP on the device was updated along with the Software, the issue was resolved. However, as of today, I was working on another one of these troubled devices. I updated E_V_E_R_Y_T_H_I_N_G and the pop-up still showed. So, I told the user I would just replace the entire device and Smart Switch his content to the new phone. While I was in the transfer process (already switched the SIM) I noticed the troubled device didn't receive a single pop-up. This got me thinking, so I waited and tested the device some more without the SIM and didn't receive a single pop-up. This led me to believe the issue is likely correlated to Service. I had read on other websites that generally this issue is related to AT&T Samsung devices. Some solutions were to flash a vanilla OS (without bloatware) to cease the annoyance.
*
After reinserting the SIM into the problem phone, I almost immediately received the pop-up.
*
SO! I went diving.
*
I came across a strange setting I hadn't considered / seen / wasted my time to read. It was to turn on and off AT&T Mobile Network Diagnostics. GREAT! If I have this "Device Health" issue and it seems to be tied to a data connection, this setting makes sense! If there is some error with the sending of diagnostics to AT&T then it would only make sense to receive this type of error. What even IS "Device Health?" So once I turned that off and reset the APN I haven't received the pop-up since.
*
I am sure by this point my post is
*
TL;DR
*
Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > and turn OFF "AT&T Mobile network diagnostics"
*
Go to Access Point Names > (3 vertical dots top right corner) > Reset to default
*
Since doing that i haven't seen the pop-up.*
*
Cheers

Did everything except, there's no "AT&T Mobile network diagnostics" to shut off.
Still have the same problem.
