design choice?

Wouldn't it make more sense to show the entire album artwork rather than leaving half the screen blank? Or am I the only one who feels that way?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

I agree. I think it looks really ugly. There is room, so why not show the full album art.

I don't suppose there is any way to edit the app to change this?

+1. Feel the same way. If not the fullscreen album artwork (or whatever shenanigans they could do) we deserve the rest of the space being wallpaper or something other than a black empty screen.

Ahah, I agree with you, looks kind of weird. o:

I have gotten use to it now. It doesn't look that bad I suppose. I still wish they used the screen better. I think they made it like this to match the calling menu. It looks very similar to the screen I get when somebody calls me. So maybe it's to make the UI more constant?

i think this is an example of effective use of whitespace to separate the unlock section from the player controls.
This allows the user to have more functionality in one screen without compromise the content. So you get your album artwork + player controls + your 2 or 4 way unlock menu in an uncluttered layout.
Good design choice IMO

Excellent choice of music, by the way.

poweramp has a really good music lockscreen with not just the normal play/pause and forward/backward controls, but also with star ratings and shuffle/repeat controls i think

Perhaps its so that it also displays correctly when using pattern lock?

wow that's actually pretty clever O.O

Now that is the first good answer to this question. That must be it.
Still, I would think they would employ a better solution that this. Either allow the album artwork to take up space based on the unlock screen you are using, or have an entirely different lockscreen like other music players.

As much as I'm a Google fanboy, I'll admit that they do have a tendancy to half ass things. There could be a good reason or the engineer could have been simply distracted by a humorous T-shirt.

Seriously, why can't something like this be for Android?

Look at the clock / weather widget combo, that's awesome. One of the (slightly) few reasons I love my HD2. Why can't something like this appear on Android devices, something like this would ROCK on the Evo.
Why would you want 3 clocks? I've seen widgets a lot like that (for android), I think it was beautiful widgets.

Yes, the redundancy is very overwhelming.
Beautiful widgets, you can even clone that if your up to the challenge using the available tools.
But as the previous posters said, 3 clocks? OCD much?
something like this?

can't add outside links, apparently I'm a new user.
beautiful widgets has several skins and you can add your own. IMO its the best clock/weather app you can find.
I don't mean the analog clock, although it's still nice. I meant the look of the whole widget, beautiful widgets looks cheap, at least the weather animations do :/

It is completely customizable, 100%, create your own and make it look the way you want it to look.
And there are a few dozen different weather animations, from silly to amazingly real.
Obviously you do not have it yet or you would know this, but its worth the few bucks.

[Q] trying to remember an app/widget?

Somewhere in the android world I have seen a picture of somebody using what appears to be a scrollable app launcher on their screen. This particular one was rounded and was on the side of the screen. Kind of like half of a rotary clock dialer, but instead of numbers it was apps.
Thanks for any ideas you have as to what I may be talking about!
Sounds like circlelauncher ...
Its half rotary cause the launcher is in the top, if its in the middle it will be full circle

That's not the exact one I was thinking of, but very similar.
The one I remember seeing I believe had a grey background and was only halfthe circle on either the left or right of the screen.
This one will work though if I can't find the one I was thinking of, though the one I remember looked better IMO. But it's possible it was just a particular rom feature.
Thanks!
Yeah...its pretty cool. It helps keep my screens uncluttered

Bah, I just went through a few hundred pages of google images to see if I could find anything...
I tried searching through every combination of app widget scrollable circular android launcher dock vertical horizontal I could think of. Am I making this up?
If I am, does anyone want to make one?
It kinda sounds like the wonder wheel feature on slickui b
it its not available yet
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
not wonderwheel either :/
it's closer to this, if it was scrollable and ran more along the left and right sides of the screen.

Just tried out netfront for a minute, and it's actually a lot more then I had wanted (very cool concept though) if I hadn't just bought adw ex the other day I might have kept it for awhile.
I'm beginning to think I imagined this whole concept. Thanks for all of your efforts though, seriously do appreciate them.
There's also a carousel widget one.

Is that ultimate faves pro? If so, I was hoping what I was looking for was an actual widget and not a home replacement.
Small bump, still haven't found anything like I was remembering.
Would anyone be interested in making something like this?
It doesn't have to be curved or super fancy, but I'd love a widget (say 3 columns wide or 3 rows long) that I could place any number of apps into and scroll through them.
Of course after it gets made then it could be fancy, if somebody wished.
Not thinking of smart taskbar are you?
No it wasn't that one. Sorry for the long reply I thought I had this thread set up for notifications.
Hmmm I wonder if I just dreamed this.
I believe the app your talking about is called Clutch Pad by Steve Albright, it's available in the market for $1.99. Also, if your looking you something similar, but free, I'd recommend either Circle Launcher or SwipePad, both of which allow for launching apps without using the standard launcher.

SeriesGuide - TV Show Tracker

I watch a lot of TV shows and it is hard to keep up with new episodes. I also had trouble to trying to figure out which shows I have already watched.... thus I found the perfect app.
SeriesGuide informs you when a new episode comes out and you can mark episodes that you have already watched.

I agree. I love this app, except for the fact that its widget really looked out of place on my home screen.
I have added a few settings to customize it; if anyone is interested I will push these changes back to GitHub and ask the author if we wishes to integrate them.

Regarding the widget, I'm also not too fond of it the way it looks right now. I do like the transparency, but the 'next' text in capitol letters is way to big. If that would be in normal text, it would be better. And the show covers could be doubled in size (thus increasing the line hight for each episode), so it'll be a little more easy on the eyes when watching the list.
Besides that, I very much love this app!
On a second note, perhaps a fourth theme could be implemented: 'rom default'. Install a recent version of Chainfire's SuperSU app and you'll see what I mean It matches the theme based on the used framework. So if you're on a Sense ROM, the app will be Sense themed, and if you're on TouchWizz, it will be TW themed.
Nice app! Thank you, really helping!

Album art wrong size on lock screen

So I noticed today while trying to get album art for my music that on the lock screen it now shows the music at a size that's far too big for the screen. No idea what's causing that to happen since it was fine before I added new art today. Any suggestions?

Album art is full screen in the lock screen. Since album art is square and the phone is not, the art is zoomed in to eliminate bars on the sides. This probably accounts for it seeming over sized. It's the same on my phone. I like the look of it myself.
But that doesn't make sense when there's no art or anything like that. It used to show the artist and song name and now it's too zoomed in. Also words on actual covers are cut off. Here's an example of one without art

How would the phone know what part of the album art to show because wording can be anywhere. As mentioned because it shows it full screen now vs a lil square box below the title and such, it has to zoom the image to fit the whole screen which will cut off the sides so that the top/bottoms can fit.

Take a look at this link: http://www.gizmag.com/review-android-kitkat-44/29821/pictures#7
Its supposed to cut off the sides.
Unless I'm crazy I don't believe it did this until now. My cover art also looks to have lower quality now. I guess it's possible that I haven't noticed till now but it doesn't make sense to me why this would happen in KitKat. Check these out. Do yours look similar?

That's because it's zooming in on a low-resolution image, hence the fuzziness

Use Music lockscreen controls with more players than just Samsung Music?

Is it possible? I am annoyed that it only works with Samsung Music and all the rest have to rely on the typical ugly notification controls. I was hoping something like this would be possible: https:// www.xda-developers.com/how-to-add-third-party-music-apps-emui-lock-screen/

Musixmatch I believe has this feature and player pro does I'm not sure if any others do though but will keep an eye out

First we need to find if it's an API that allows for full screen widgets on the UI or is it's an app specific thing or both. If you replace S7's Samsung Music with S8's you get the updated look (that also is not matching the aspect ratio of S7 so it's a bad idea to do) which makes me think it might be a combination of things, like there is an API that allows such thing and the app is responsible what will be projected in the end.

Actually a set number of apps have a lockscreen overlay which is what Samsung music app does screen is still locked when displaying the controls but with player pro there is a full lockscreen with music controls etc... And unlock swiping and musixmatches is pretty nice

Nice! My only issues with both of them is that their implementations is fiddly and they don't support gapless playback. Music Pro says it does but it fails to in a terrible way.

You can check out BlackPlayer Pro on PlayStore. I've been using it on every phone that I had, isntead of the stock music player. There is a free version and there is a pro version which costs about 2 dollars I think, totally worth it though. It also has built in tag editor, option to download album art etc. And you can edit the way it shows the notification on the lock screen (only you'll have to buy the pro version for that). Would not change it for a thing!
