If you want to get free tether and avoid the 15$ charge. You are able to trick T-mobile by changing your user agent in your registry. I have tested this and it works. It does encounter a few problems with loading some web pages because it thinks that you are surfing the web from a mobile browser.
Steps to take (windows)
1. Press the windows key + r (open run prompt)
2. type regedit (registry editor)
3. Windows Vista and above click continue to allow it to open
4. navigate to ---> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/InternetSettings/5.0/UserAgent
5. You will now see a registry called default, do not touch this one, click Edit --> New --> Multi Value String
6. Name this new string Version
7. Right click it and click modify...
8. Now type Android 2.2 And click OK
9. Now close out and you can successfully use your Mobile AP(Wifi Tether) and your USB Tether.
(Note: If you are having problems while browsing from your dedicated internet, just go back into the Registry Editor and delete the Version string. You can always add and delete it as you need it.)
If I posted this and everyone already knew about it, I am sorry. I have not seen this topic come accross the forums.

Isnt that just an alternate tether method? This is just so tmobile cant block you by trying to upsell the tether plan to customers. I was able tether my phone for about 2 months and then randomly bam... Blocked and forced to pay 15 dollars a month extra. This is just a way around that. If that app does the samething then my bad lol.

Sounds like it'd work, but wouldn't every site you visited become mobile?
For example, youtube.com would change to m.youtube.com?

Is it normal for T-Mobile not to charge you for tethering? I personally haven't done it, but my sister did for a few months already. Our plan never got charged.
I actually asked a T-Mobile rep, and they said as long as T-Mobile doesn't detect it, you won't get charged.

Yes i know. They do not start blocking your tether until they realize that you have been using a computer for about a gig of data. If someone would have let me know that this bypass was possible i would have never started my 15 dollar tether. Like i stated before this is simply informational.

Day after day I sit around and search for a solution to the receiving a small mms problem. I post on every thread I find about it and even pm but I get no response or just condescending responses. Has anyone found a solution to this? I have T-Mobile and I'm running revolution hd 6.1.1. With the stock radio (or so I think). Please someone help this is becoming unbearable

Maybe being a little more descriptive would help. What is "a small mms problem?" Are the messages truncated, the type too small, are messages not being sent or received, are the messages unreadable, is the text in the wrong language, is the icon lost?
Maybe a little more information about your problem would help someone here recollect a solution they applied to a similar problem.
1. I do not have T-Mobile
2. That being said, I was experiencing issues with small MMS pictures in the first few weeks of xda development for the Inspire
3. Searching, I came across something suggesting you change device information in build.prop to mask it as another device and it worked for me
4. I can't find that information anywhere - but this will do the same thing, masking your device as a device tmous will recognize
5. build.prop will automatically be backed up doing it this way, so if you want to go back after you're done you can - but it may be worth a shot
Don't know if this would work or not - I had a similar problem with a ROM in the first few weeks of flashing (note: I am NOT on TMobile, but was having the tiny mms problem), and I found a guide suggesting to edit build.prop to disguise it as a nexus. It worked for some reason...but I can't for the life of me find this walkthrough. The following steps will accomplish the same thing, disguising it as a phone tmous knows. It's worth a shot (backup first)..
1.) Download “Root Explorer” or a simpler application
2.) Open Root Explorer and go into the System folder
3.) One in the System folder, hit the Mount R/W at the top right
4.) Hold down on Build.prop file and then open it in the text editor
5.) Change the following lines
Here are the changes you need to make:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.brand=tmobile
ro.product.name=vision
ro.product.device=vision
ro.product.board=vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC ro.build.fingerprint=tmobile/htc_vision/vision/vision:2.2/FRF91/277427:user/release-keys
6.) Hit menu and Save & Exit. You’ll get a message explaining that the original build.prop file was saved as build.prop.bak
7.) Reboot and try MMS again
This issue has been around for a long time, dating back to windows mobile, there have been fixes found and they work till the next update and then it's broke again. I would try the above. Then if that doesn't work if you really want to fix it. I would find one of the fixes for the WM version and see what was done and see how it can be moved to android. I have also heard that a 3rd party SMS app fixes it as well, nit sure about that though.
It is an issue with t-mobile and you will be hard pressed to find a solution in the inspire forum. I don't know what the fix is but I can assure you if you go to the sensation forum, or others where the roms are not t-mobile specific but the phone is widely used on that network, you will see what is changed by looking into the fix zips provided.
thanks for the responses everyone i will give the theories a try when i have the chance tomorrow hopefully something will work.
I'm trying to get Verizon Visual Voicemail working on CM10 on SGS3. I have 3 different apk's:
Verizon's Visual Voicemail from the market (pulled from my DInc)
Verizon's Visual Voicemail Nexus from the market (after a few build.prop edits)
Stock Touchwiz Visual Voicemail (Thanks to NoSympathy)
Both market versions install without a problem, but have connection timeouts when trying to verify my vvm subscription.
The Touchwiz version won't even install.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm digging through the apk's to try and find why both market versions time out.
I would try stuff from the gnex since it is built for AOSP

You are correct, however - I think what con's trying to refer you to is what I'd try first - go online and search "verizon galaxy nexus visual voicemail apk", find it, download it, transfer to your phone, and install from "unknown souce". It may work right off the bat, but it may not also. If not, it sure will give you a good starting point with where to go with it since A) its already build for AOSP and B) already built to communicate with the Verizon network.
Good luck!
Rather than beating your head in trying to get it to work you could save the 3 or 4 bucks a month and just use Google voice, is kind of irritating through the initial setup but in the end works well and does the same thing. Just my 0.02

Could you post the apk for the Stock one? I've been trying to get my hands on it since synergy ROM doesn't have it included and now I can't even see any of the voicemail apps in the market. With the Droid Incredible I had to do these steps to get Verizons visual voice mail to work with CM7.2
Use file manager and go to "/system"
Mount the folder R/W(Read/Write
open build.prop in Text Editor
look for "ro.horizontalVvvm = True" and chenge it to False
look for "ro.horizontalBUA = True" and change it to False
save your edit, and back out to thr "/system" folder. Once again switch the directory back to R/O, exit your apps and reboot.
You shoulkd now be able to install your Vvm.apk without it telling you to uninstall it because one is already installed.
Note I am using Virtuous rom however it should work for most roms I would imagine.
If you do not have a Vvm.apk here is one from the Droid X but it works great on my incredible. Looks almost like the stock incredible version.

The stock vvm app installs fine, it just hangs while trying to verify the subscription. I thought it might have been the ro.horizontal.vvm line in the build.prop like on cm7, but that line wasn't even in there. I added it just to see and it made no difference. I switched to Google voice and I'm loving how it integrates directly into the phone app instead of having to run a separate vvm app. Thanks for the post.
Btw, anyone wanting the stock tw or old Verizon apk, feel free to pm me and ill send it to you.

Even when it was working on tw, no. Google voice is infinitely better, especially once you have it incorporated into the aosp phone app. The voice mails show up in your call log. Only problem is had was recording my greeting. After the initial setup, it's totally seamless.

So i downloaded Ashell and SQlite manager. I am able to navigate to data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases and located the file called gservices.db. I click on it and open it, then it goes to a screen to select which app i want to use to open it. I was assuming I should use SQlitemanager, however it is not listed as one of the apps to choose to edit. I see a bunch of other apps the only one that i can even get close enough to edit with is text editor. I did find the ""gtalk_vc_wifi_on" value to "false"" line however it is not exactly like you wrote shows up as ""gtalk_vc_wifi_only6& Q plusone:enable_instant_share_video58"
Not sure if i can use text editor to edit this i don't want to screw this up. Any input or guidance is greatly appreciated, thanks.

when you select "gservices.db" in ashell you should get a warning asking if you want to get a copy of the file, answer yes
asqlitemanager should now be available as one of the options to open the db
once it opens the gservices.db select "main"
in table "main" select "Data"
hit "PgDn" until you find the following line "gtalk_vc_wifi_only" and hit edit on the left hand-side
change value "true" to "false" and hit "oK"
hit back button a couple of times and you should get a prompt asking you if yo want to "commit changes" answer yes
before you try to initiate a gtalk over data make sure you kill/restart the gtalk app (you may wanna clear cache and data, doesn't hurt}
Done !

So I am on CleanROMm 8.2. Yeah a little bit outdated. I have tried all the dialer methods and the creating a shortcut method with a different launcher. The hidden menu option does not appear in any of the activities in both Nova and Launcher Pro. I want to check if my phone is refurbished. (I know random for a phone this old), but I love it. Anyone have any suggestions?
IOTHiddenMenu exists when I look it up in my apps. Just need to access it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
if your handphone was root, you can try edit file build.prop in /system
or download app build prop editor in Playstore, and add this
Code:
Property name: sys.hiddenmenu.enable
Property value : 1
Tried editing in build prop. No luck. I also added this property and value. Just can't access the menu anywhere. Not even in shortcuts!

You have to go into
/efs/carrier/hiddenmenu
(No extension, but its a text file)
Change the contents from "OFF" to "ON" and reboot.
Only works on TW ROMs though I think? Could be totally wrong on that, I guess it *is* only an app, and probably doesn't rely on TW framework.
And even then, only certain menu items still work. Back when the phone came out lots more work. Just google around for some codes you need and try them out.

And even then, only certain menu items still work. Back when the phone came out lots more work. Just google around for some codes you need and try them out.

Yeah I noticed it was still there just a minute ago, haven't checked if the app is still in /system/app though. Will report back!
EDIT:
Not there, I guess it makes sense though, its in the /system folder which I wipe when I install CM.

You have to go into
/efs/carrier/hiddenmenu
(No extension, but its a text file)

So when I use ES File explorer to get to the efs folder...it is empty. -__- I know the application is installed because I installed it. The shortcuts still do not work though.
By the way thank you guys for the responses.

You must not have enabled "root" from the tools menu of ES browser. I think that's an EXTREMELY important folder for imei/efs/carrier stuff and it persists through ROMs, so every gs3 has stuff in it.

Cool! Did what you told me. Created the shortcut...still get the message "application not installed." I'm befuddled.

What exactly is it you're trying to do? Probably only available from the stock Samsung dialer as a guess, which means only TW ROMs.
Edit:
Just read you're on CleanRom which is TW based.
I don't really know what shortcut you're talking about, but pretty sure the app can't be run/opened like normal apps.
The way you open it is via dialer codes,
i.e. going into the stock Samsung dialer and typing codes such as *#0*# (dont click call/send, it will open automatically) to get to the extremely basic hardware diagnostic test.
Now, the average user isn't supposed to get into this menu, so most of the codes no longer work, since people figured out the ones to benefit themselves, such as the WiFi offloading which gets rid of the annoying "please connect to WiFi network" or whatever that was constantly in the notification bar.
The above code is one of the few that still work, you'll just have to google around to find some that still work on the 4.3 (?) TouchWiz rom.
Other than that, you may just be SOL, since they removed so many.
Good luck!
