my old phone was Tattoo and it was always staying on HSPA or something like that! now on my nexus I'm always on 3G!
what can you tell me about this, or how can I fix it?
Stock Android does not distinguish between 3G and HSDPA on the status bar. You should still be getting HSDPA speeds though.
that's kinda odd! thanks for the answer...
Most people don't know the difference between Edge, 3G, or any of the HSPA variants (HSPA, HSPA+, HSDPA, HSUPA). Heck they don't even know what 4G is and couldn't tell you what on earth LTE, WiMax, or HSUPA is. Stock Android doesn't differentiate because people know what 3G means and since HSPA is still technically at the most 3.5G it is a little confusing to change the symbol. The mass population dictates the way things work and we here at XDA find ways to make it work the better way. =) Hence the reason why a good number of custom roms allow for the OS to differentiate between each individual type of data network usage.
I loaded the CM ROM and now the NSCollab 1.0.17 and since then I now have an "H" where my 3G used to be. The phone seems to work just fine, and every so often it blinks 3G. I don't know if I'm supposed to flash a new radio zip or what, or if anything's wrong. It has KB1.

There is no problem at all. H is better than 3g, it's like a 3.5g network. You will get the 3g signal in places where Nexus can't find the H network (better)
I don't think anythings wrong, I had that happen to my moto defy when i had it. H = hsdpa or something anong those lines. Basicly means 4g. I don't think you're running 4g tho

I certainly wouldn't complain if it was 4G but this phone doesn't have a 4G radio. T-Mobile in Los Angeles county. And it's no faster then it was when it only said 3G.

It just means that the Nexus S is connecting to your carriers network using the HSDPA specification (which has higher theoretical speeds) rather than UTMS (standard 3G, slower theoretical speeds).
Stock doesn't have the H icon enabled, but almost every custom rom does.

OK, that makes sense. I thought I did something wrong trying to learn how to root and flash.
What is the difference between the radio sw, KB1, 2 & 3? Thanks...
I guess i'm not getting this right
I keep searching for a xoom 3G version but all i get is Verizon's only... I currently live in Saudi Arabia, and no providers are taking this tab on board of their plans... does this mean i'm stuck with the WiFi version? what if later on they started to support it, is it possible to upgrade it to use 3G, or is it the case that i will have to sell it and buy a new one if i need the 3G support?
the reason behind this is that not every place i go has wireless internet connection, and i would benefit from the 3G connectivity cause i will be able to use regardless of where i am as long as there is a signal.
anybody??
i kinda need this to make up my mind before i buy it, as it is a large investment USD 670
Thanks
The 3G version is currently/nominally on Verizon at this time, yes.
Its slowly rolling out to other carriers but I think mainly in wifi versions on.
What you COULD do, is if you own an android phone, user something like barnacle to do wifi tethering, and tether the wifi xoom to it, et voila, 3g access.
Hey ramyt,
I'm in Saudi too and I just ordered a Xoom. Whatever you do DO NOT get the 3G version from the US. This is NOT the same 3G we have here. The US 3G is based on CDMA, which is totally not compatible with our 3G which is a GSM based network.
What you want is the EU version of the Xoom 3G. You can pick one up at Hantec.co.uk or gummobile.com
Beware though, that the EU version of the Xoom is still stuck at Honeycomb Android version 3.0, while the US based Xooms have been updated to 3.1 (lots of goodies and bug fixes). Hopefully Motorola will be sending out 3.1 updates for the EU Xooms shortly.
As saifbarry pointed out, don't purchase a US 3G model.
The UK / Euro XOOMs will be GSM compatible and you can also buy them off contract. For example, www.carphonewarehouse.com sells the 3G XOOM in the UK. I'm sure there are probably other European retailers that sell the unsubsidised version, off-contract.

The idea crossed my mind. I have an HTC Desire, but there is a big problem with that approach, the tethering device will drain its battery like rocket speed.

hey saifbarry, thanks for that. did you manage to buy one for yourself? how is it working here is Saudi?
Bro why don't you try use a MIFI 3G router with your XOOM WiFi.you just need to plug in a 3g data sim card in to the MIFI 3G router then you can connect your XOOM with WIFI.
Does anyone use the NT-G800 (3G version of the Note 10.1) on AT&T in the US? If so, how is the performance over 3G? Any problems?
My GT-N8000 works great on AT&T's 3g network. I average between 2-4mb down and 1-1.5mb up. It ain't LTE but it gets the job done, lol.
Thanks for that. I ordered the 3G version without checking on here to see if there were any issues using on AT&T in the US. I figured 3G is plenty fast. An LTE version would probably kill the battery more anyway. I'm sure 3G will be plenty fast.
How is your phone experience with the tablet? I figure I'll have to swap sims when I go out, but for a work phone/tablet, it seems like a solid choice.
Just wanting to get a few opinions from users who have there sprint nexus s 4G on pageplus. Has anyone gotten it to work 100% Witt 3G and without the reception issues I read about? Where I live, I can only get verizon coverage of seems so I need decent signal. Does it work smoothly? If anyone has there's on pageplus, share your experience please.
