[Q] How to save phone data to phone only - Motorola Atrix 2

I have searched the forums for information on this and keep comming up with nothing.
Is it possible to only save my contacts, and other information on my phone only and not have them saved to "The Cloud"
I have an Atrix and Atrix 2 and there does not seem to be any option for this.
I remember when I was allowed to sync my data on my personal computer and now this does not seem to be an option anymore either.

I am curious why no one has a comment on this Question. Is this a Taboo question? I can't seem to find comments on this anywhere.

If you own an Android phone, it is based on Google and Google servers, which stores, backups and restores personal data to your device through your personal Google account you have set up. If you're looking to store data (such as contacts) you can do so by exporting to your sdcard and backing up 'manually' by plugging in your USB and selecting "USB Mass Storage" mode, and copying over your contacts to your computer that way. Just export your contacts from within the phone's contacts and select export to sdcard:

As far as other data you're wanting to store either within your device or 'off device locally' you need to provide more explanation of what exactly you're looking for. Google isn't all bad as far as keeping your account and settings backed up, it saves you time and effort in re-establishing you're primary Google account stuff after having flashed new roms or after having to FXZ back to stock.

Contacts and calendars have personal information about other persons that I do not want google reading, selling, etc. There are not many viable options, especially with the calendar but for backup purposes from your phone you can try Sprite Backup from the hemorrhoid store, costs about $5 USD.
For sync purposes, HTC is the only manufacturer making software to direct sync available. Something that is expensive but definitely works is CompanionLink but they want $40 or $45 USD. They do have a 14-day free trial. http://www.companionlink.com/android/. Have read of some other third-party software but the ones that I saw all have poor reviews. I used CompanionLink trial once and it worked well. The price is just too high.

Sorry to say, but since you are operating a Google phone, all of your information has already been gathered/collected/stored/sent to the Bermuda Triangle and back (yes, they have the technology to not get "Flight 19'd" -therefore, they get in, scoop out your eyeballs, replace them with Skittles, and return to Google's base before "Big Bang Theory" comes on TV) and so, it really doesn't matter what you might do to absolve Google of their proprietary access to your info; when you bought, you paid for this.

It's kind of a case of...if you didn't want to have anything to do with Google, then why did you get a Google-based device? Windows Phone has local and computer-sync options, but even then they want to back your data up to a live.com account. Apple does...stuff...and all, but it's kinda clunky unless you're using a mac. I have no idea what they do with your information, but I'm sure it would scare me.
Bottom line: Don't want to have anything in the cloud these days? Buy a feature phone instead of a smartphone, get a really old smartphone (Think Windows Mobile 6.1 or less), or use Blackberry.
Just thought of Blackberry. They may be the only current (and I use the term loosely) device that allows direct-sync with no connection to any cloud or online service necessary.

Redboxer app?

Ive been using the app for awhile, then one day it was gone. I flashed multiple roms and its still not in the market. I even looked in appbrain.com and still no luck. Im wondering if anyone else used this paid app and knows any news on this application. Did it get removed?
Looks like it may have changed names?
There's an app called "RedReserve" on Appbrain by the same developer.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/redreserve/com.droidsoftdev.redreserve.main
Thanks for the info I found it, but I already bought the app before under the name of redboxer. Do I really have to pay for it again?

This is a convo from the dev. They shut him down cause his app had redbox in its name, anyways he gave me a refund and I was able to buy the other app. So it all worked out great. Awesome dev!
I was an early adopter of Redboxer and bought it when it was $.99. Since it got pulled, renamed to RedReserve, and put back on the market, the price was increased to $1.99. The dev is refunding the original $.99 to those of us who purchased the original Redboxer, but we're expected to pay full price for the RedReserve. In other words, those of us who supported the dev from day one are now expected to pay $1.00 more for the app just for a name change. $1 is not a lot of money, but it's the principal of the thing. What's to stop any other dev from pulling their app from the market, re-listing it under a new name and charging users again a higher price for it? Great way to scam people. Not saying the dev for Redboxer is scamming. His app was pulled because of the redbox name. He's very pleasant and helpful in refunding, but it just sucks. I wish he'd charge the $.99 that it cost before, at least for a little while, so those of us who supported him early on could get it for the same price.
Hey everyone - just came across this thread and thought I would add some more information.
Yes - redbox did shutdown my app, RedBoxer and cited the reason as trademark infringement for use of the word "redbox". On my home screen I used "Find a redbox". In hindsight, I should have used "Find a kiosk" which is what my new app uses. I also removed the word from other places in the app and used the trademark symbol when using it in the About section of my app.
It was very frustrating because they didn't bother to contact me at all; they simply went straight to Google who puts your app into a suspended status and sends you an email about it. Google tells you that you must work with the complainant to get the issue resolved. Well I tried to reach their attorney but I still haven't heard from him.
I am offering refunds to everyone that bought redboxer and now buys the new app. So far I am keeping up with the emails and I am turning around refunds in less than a couple hours usually.
I do completely understand the principal of people who bought the app for 99 cents having to pay a dollar more and the money aspect of it isn't a big deal for me. I will even paypal the dollar difference to anyone who would like that. I wish there was a way to do partial refunds so that I could credit people for the extra dollar they have to spend on the new app, but Google's market only allows me to completely cancel the purchase and do a full refund.
In addition to all this, redbox is starting to roll out a brand new version of their online system. insideredbox.com has a blog post with more details for those interested. They are limiting exposure to the new system so my app was getting served the new system on occasion which was causing issues. I took it down last Friday and just finished updating it last night to support the new system. It is back in the market currently.
redbox's new system is pretty cool. It seems much faster and it has some new features like support for reserving games and a cart that holds up to five items (movies/games) that you can checkout with all at once.
As redbox completes the roll-out of their new system, expect to see support for these features in my app as well.
Thanks to everyone who has bought and supports my app.
App gone again?
I tend to use titanium backup for my app restores, so it may take some time to notice when an app disapears. Redreserve is gone from the market. Any idea as to if/when it will return? (v2.5 still works great, BTW)

Android replacement for HandyShopper - AndShoBBer

I was one of many satisfied HandyShopper users. Chris Antos had made the perfect
shopping app for the PalmPilot, and I even went so far to that I bought a
Windows Mobile phone because Chris had ported HandyShopper to Windows Mobile.
But enough was enough. My next phone was to be an Android - but how could I
survive without HandyShopper? I couldn't, and I couldn't find an appropriate
substitute for Android - so I had to clone it myself.
AndshoBBer is the result - currently in beta. In some ways worse, in some ways
different but in many ways inspired by HandyShopper. I hope Chris Antos sees
this as a tribute, not a plagiarism.
You may download AndShoBBer from

good idea but not for me
My wife and I really need something that's able to import our massive HandyShopper lists. ToMarket's interface is a bit unpleasant for us, but until now it's been the only thing out there.
What an Android shopping list app, or indeed any modern shopping list app, needs is sync. I really need to be able to add something to our shopping list when I'm at work and have it show up in the app on my wife's phone when she goes to the market, or my son needs to be able to add milk to my shopping list after he's used it all up (again).
A nice touch is some sort of web interface so one doesn't have to type on a teensy keyboard.
I'll give this a try.
In principle I agree with your views on sync - but at the moment I am developing for my own pleasure, and with respect to "modern" this does not include my wife, so I have no personal need for sync, so unless I can do this in an easy way (or make lots of money )....
If you or anybody else has some good input on a library to use for web sync of Android SQLite bases please let me know - then I will look into it.
Anders
Thank you, andbb! I was devasted when I moved from an HTC Aria (WinMo 6.5) running Chris's HandyShpr. I am hoping your tribute to Chris comes anywhere close to his works, as I have been through a half-dozen disappointing shopping lists.
Again, thank you!
see also: OI shopping list
For those who might prefer a different approach, "OI Shopping List" (when combined with the "OI Convert CSV" plug-in) does a decent job with import of HandyShopper CSV files.
rShopping List
I used HandyShopper on the Palm for a very long time before switching to Android.
I couldn't find an Android app with the features of HandyShopper, so I wrote my own.
You might give my app rShopping List a try.
I sorely miss HandyShopper, as does my wife.
So why are we using a shopping list app that disappoints us each time we use it? Because it syncs.
These days I think syncing is a must-have feature for a shopping app. I need to be able to add something to our mutual shopping list when I use the last of it. My wife needs to be able to add something while I'm on the way to the store. This is so vital that we'll put up with an otherwise very disappointing program that manages lists in silly and useless ways.
I have yet to find an app with the utility of HandyShopper that syncs.
As I mentioned, OI Shopping List has many features that should appeal to HandyShopper users, including importing HandyShopper data. It doesn't currently sync, but there are some GSoC students working on sync this summer.

[Q] Is there a way to make data calls on windows phone

I bought the HTC one x because I got bored of my first Gen windows phone (I'll be back for windows phone 8).
I'm wondering if I can keep my windows phone around when I'm traveling for gaming, browser and possibly use it to make free data calls.
Skype is the only thing I found but obviously that costs money. And I'm fine with that but just wondering if it's possible thru another app.
Thanks

You can save your money with Skype. Just join a Bing Rewards (if you eligible), and by spending 3-5 minutes daily, you can earn up to $6-8 (Skype credit rewards) weekly (of course, not with one but five (eligible) accounts).
I'll not share ways to automate earnings but you may google for that

Been doing this since day one buddy. I know all about the bing rewards.
I spent about 200 points entering the lumia 900 contest and the rest (over 2000) went towards skype credit.
I'm a gold member so the 10% off helps too!
I'm not doing it through anything automatic. I don't cheat the system when the system is good to me.
Hmm, if you already found this way, why do you saying "Skype is the only thing I found but obviously that costs money" and asking for another solution?
4 example, if you calling in US, each buck give you about 40 minutes. So weekly you can earn approx. $8 in Skype credits what gives you 320 minutes of the talk time (in US).
I don't know how you're cheating the system but I have to do multiple searches using Bing everyday. And I only have one account. So it's not $8 a week.
Also, I'd rather use my google voice number but f there are no other options then I'm fine with Skype.

Hey, did I've used word "cheating"?
I'm not a cheater; also I'm not so cheap to look for the "free calls" - it's absolutely fine for me to pay for my AT&T contract, with excellent voice and LTE (3 GB) data connection (actually 'cause I'm a developer, my apps paying for my family contract and much more but it's a different story).
What I'm saying, it's an absolutely fine to have a 5 Bing Rewards accounts per household (read the MS rules!); also if you want to simplify (and automate) steps to earn rewards - there are nothing about it at agreement and rules. Of course if you not smart enough to do that - it's your own problem...

Why do you think Google removed SD card slot in Nexus devices?

Why do you think Google removed SD card slot in Nexus devices?
I have seen some articles which quoted several Google's explanations (might be merely a rumor) which were basically "we did it for security", "we have been tired of OEMs who rely on the SD card slot and sell their devices with small internal storage." (this one makes no sense...) "we did it for stabilization and performance issue" "we think integrating all contents in one storage is more intuitive since many users cannot determine which files should go where"
I believe they are just a series of lame excuses. I personally think Google mainly did for profit since they are charging $40 for Nexus 7 and $100 for Nexus 10 for storage upgrade which I estimate to cost less than $15 for the company. (this is my estimation based on the fat that 8GB -> 16GB only costs $8.50)
What is your opinion?
Because they want you to use the cloud. Google Music, Google Drive, Gmail, etc. They don't feel they need more space when you have crazy space out in cyberspace.
YEP. The more accounts they can migrate to the web the more they see... the more they see the more data they can sell to advertisers.
Graze the cash cow, baby.

I think clouding is a stupid idea personally. Not everyone has internet connections everywhere they go. Even though they do, most people do not have enough mobile data to waste on constantly downloading and uploading to the cloud. I have used Google drive several times in my GS3 and it was a horrible experience. The downloading freezed frequently for no reason and I had to download the stuff over again. Also downloading uploading are super slow, slowr than reading stuff off sd cards of course.

I've been hacked, can you help me to see where was the problem?

Hello
Information:
Just 2 hours ago I have been hacked and I think that was in my phone. I was making a paypal payment to a friend using the paypal app when sudently, seconds after sending the payment I received a mail of paypal with that transaction and another one of 2.500€ that obviously I never did.
The payment was never make because I don't have so many funds, but they tried 5 times with different quantities and all of my cards. Well, after seeing this I changed my password and all of that **** and right now I want to know before I make a clean rom install if I could investigate where the hack came from.
I am using a Galaxy note 3, it is rooted but limited apps have access to root and I also use xprivacy.
The apps with access to root and the xposed modules are this ones

What I want
I want to investigate if is possible a little bit more of this. I was thinking on restoring a Titanium of all my apps to yesterday, open logcat or any app that can help me to know where the leak came and what app was the malware and try to make another legit transaction to see if happens anything from my phone.
The problem is that I don't really know how should I proceed and I want to solve this for me and more people.
Any idea?
Is the network you used secure out of curiosity? What kind of apps do you have as far as security just curious?
You could try taking a look at some of the applications' play store reviews as well as the modules' forum threads to see if anything had been reported. I'm always very cautious with root permissions, hard to always know what an app will use it for. Personally I stick to my PC for transactions and stay as far away from Google wallet as I can

There's a VirusTotal app you could try, maybe one of your apps is malicious. But if you'd know how to, I'd also just copy all the apps to your PC and then upload them to VirusTotal that way, it'd be a lot easier.
There's also some pc malware out that can infect your phone even. I'd run a decent anti virus on both your phone and your pc as well. (I like Kaspersky, Malwarebytes and ESET personally).
The other thing too is maybe your passwords are just really weak. I'd recommend a password generator like Keepass.
