Which of the following devices to follow up my HTC Touch Pro 2 ? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I just sold my HTC Touch Pro 2 and considering the following phones:
HTC Sensation 299
HTC Encredible S €303 - €315
HTC Desire S €239
Samsung Galaxy S2 €226 (probably not possible, false price on Ebay)
Sony Xperia Arc 266
Sony Xperia Ray €279
Regulus Android dual sim €215
In which order you would prefer or which phones wouldn't you recommend?

HTC Incredible hands down.
I had the first Droid Incredible and I absolutely loved it.
If this is too pricy for you, the Galaxy S2, the Sensation then the Desire would be good choices also.
I'm not a fan of Sony phones so I can't really help with that, sorry.

I just checked youtube and the Incredible has the best contrast/viewing angle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oLz3CT35-4
But on this site 62% voted Sensation (1800 votes) and only 23% voted Incredible (600 votes)
http://www.androidauthority.com/incredible-s-desire-s-sensation-–-which-is-better-12619/
So I guess Incredible has best screen and Sensation best overall ?

Since the Sensation has at least the same specs as the Incredible, plus bigger screen resolution, dualcore CPU (overclocks to at least 1.5GHz), better GPU (Adreno 220 vs 205) and HDMI-out via MHL, I'd take (and I just took) the Sensation. Screen might be a little better on the Incredible but not by so much it would make a big difference.
Galaxy S2 is a great phone too, I just don't trust Samsung that much... Sensation feels expensive when held in hand, S2 is too plasticky. The super AMOLED screen is awesome though, much better than anything HTC can offer at the moment. Also S2 might be slightly faster of the two, since it has more ram and ~30% smaller screen resolution.

All those seem like downgrades... Winmo is a higher quality OS than android and runs better even on inferior hardware. Sure it didn't have an app catalog, but in comparison I'd stick with winmo or upgrade to Microsoft's latest OS. No point in going from poor quality OS to poorer quality OS.

nobody wants a winmo... it's a dead mobile os at the moment.
perhaps with some luck it might pick up steam but it's not looking too good at the moment.
overall(and out of the choices listed) I'd say the Senny.
not saying that because I own one, it's just that it's a overall win.
now having said that if you can get the SGS2 for the price listed then I'd say jump on it.
long as all the plastic doesn't bother you and can live with the lower resolution screen... (hopefully it's the Exynos version though... if it's the Snapdragon, I'd still get the Senny over it)

No it was a fake auction, i'm still doubting between Sensation & Incredible S ...
Isn't the screen too big from the sensation, isn't it more pleasant to have the 4 inch Incredible S in your hand with better contrast/field of view ?
Does the Incredible S has the latest Sense & Android Android 2.3 Gingerbread, same as the Sensation (or tweaked rom here available) ?
Will ICS be available for the Incredible S also like for the Sensation?

Maybe you should go to a store which sells them both and try which one feels better in your hands? Sensation is actually quite sleek, and only marginally bigger than the Incredible S. Sensation's display takes more room with thinner borders, so the phones are quite similar in size. I have big hands so the size is not a problem for me, but I have to admit that proper usage with only one hand isn't possible. Though I suspect the same goes for the I S too...
I wouldn't worry too much about the viewing angles and contrast of the Sensation's display, I'm coming from Desire's AMOLED and am happy with my Sensation. Of course the AMOLED was/is better but both Sensation and Incredible have S-LCD's so the difference can't be massive.
I'm not 100% sure about the Incredible S but I think both phones have a pretty good level of support and new roms in XDA. So choose which one you like more, if your gut tells you to get the Incredible S, go for it, it's a good phone too.

Htc Desire vs Htc Legend

thinking about buying either of these phones but don't know which one to buy. love the Legend's design, but the Desire's better hardware and a bigger screen. HELP ME CHOOSE! can people with experiences with both phones give their input?
What will be the price difference for you? The Desire is clearly the better choice here, MUCH better screen (higher resolution, bigger), faster processor, and usually found for a similar price as the legend. I would say the Legend has a more interesting build, pretty much a single chunk of metal whereas the desire is less rugged but still well built. I think as Android moves on with version 2.2 3.0 etc. you will find the Legend too slow and far behind. And going from 480x320 to 800x480 really does make a big difference.
I got a Desire and my brother has a Legend, the Desire is WAY better and worth it! It's not that much more expensive
desire no contest, the legend looks good but its hardware is too old now
Have a look here for a detailed comparative.
I would choose Desire it has better specs.
ye now i'm thinking about getting a desire now, but i really love the legend's design, is there a really that much of a difference in performance? and do you use the trackpad much because there are buttons right next to both sides of it and looks restrictive. the desire looks a bit flimsy, does it feel it? wat colour should i get?

I just tried some HTC phones and the Galaxy S II

Galaxy SII was incredible, it looked hideous in the pictures but it's sexy irl, and it's fast .. and the Sensation was incredible too, but the SII was faster a bit
Something that shocked me is that when I tried HTC Desire S and honestly I liked that more than I liked the Galaxy SII AND the Sensation.
I don't think I'm natural, seriously .. I got pretty confused myself, did I try the wrong Galaxy SII? lmao
And to add more shock I liked the SLCD more than the Super AMOLED Plus except the blacks
Maybe it's just that unexplainable preference, I don't know lol .. I'm confused, and I'm usually a tech head and I'd always go for the technical one, and the price difference between the SII and the Desire S here is very little. Sensation however is a bit expensive
I swear, it's inexplainable, the chemistry that phone got is unbelievable, made me overlook the giants
Lol anyway just sharing my really weird experience.
Peace
it's natural, some people like sLCD more than SAMOLED+ and viceversa
it comes down to personal preference
i think sgsii is faster than sensation cause of sense 3.0, id like to see both phones running cm7 head to head
about the desire s i think it looks like the older version of the sensation theyre pretty much the same! looks wise
but if it comes down to buying a sgs2 and a desire s the obvious choice is the sgs2
Indeed Desire S is desirable i come from an HD2 which had a huge screen too that's mainly the only advantage fir me is the size and the sleek finish of the desire S so if u want to sacrifice that nice dual core for nice sexy desire S i can tell u its an awesome phone and has CM7 support now
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
im seriously considering the motorola photon as an upgrade for my ogevo
In general:
HTC: very good built quality, low RAM, very low internal memory
Samsung : sh*t cheap built quality, better RAM, a lot better internal memory
for me:
HTC : sh*t LCD display, beautiful Sense
Samsung : incredible Amoled display, ugly Touchwiz
I hope (I am willing to pay more of course):
HTC: to give better RAM and internal memory
Samsung : to deliver better built quality
Recommendation:
HTC : Sensation XE (more RAM than the normal Sensation, the rest is gimmicks)
Samsung : SGS II or the comming Note

[Q] Question- New Phone Under T-Mobile (USA)

I'm at a loss here. I'm not sure which phone I should get.
I want something that's "futureproof". I use that term VERY loosely because I know mobile technology is always evolving.
I'm looking for something that's fast, and will last some time. I don't care if it runs on stock android or not.
I was thinking of either HTC Sensation, HTC Amaze, Samsung Galaxy S2, and the like. I'm not too sure on which I should get though.
By the way, this will be my second android phone, coming from the HTC G1. (Yes I know, THE G1)
What phone would you suggest? I've looked through the reviews and videos of them all, I just simply can't decide. I'm leaning towards the HTC Amaze since it's one of the latest devices out there.
I'm also open to other suggestions but keep in mind, it has to be under T-Mobile.
I apologize in advance if there has been similar threads posted and/or if this thread is in the wrong location.

How is that supposed to help me? I asked suggestions for a phone, not a carrier.
Can anyone help? I need to decide soon. Help would be appreciated.
I would go for the SGSII.
HTC makes solid phones that perform well out of the box, but from what I hear they are tough to root. Samsung tend to have great quality screens, Motorola has good hardware. I would suggest (if you are going for future proof) getting a dual core phone, at least 1Ghz, 1.2Ghz if you can. I believe the HTC Evo 3D has a dual core 1.2GHz, as well as the Galaxy SII and Galaxy Nexus. Get something with a good screen because if you are going to be using it for a long time, you want it to look nice, am I right? I don't know if the camera is a big deal to oyu, but LG makes good cameras, and I would shoot for at least 5M camera.
With all of that in mind, the HTC sensation looks like a solid phone on paper, but is pretty expensive and reviews don't look too good. If rooting is your thing, you can fix performance.
Galaxy SII is amazing, with great specs, great screen, great camera, and a dual core 1.2Ghz processor. Combined with a top of the line GPU, this phone will handle games and rendering with top of its class performance. if money is not an issue, I would go with that. Again, if rooting is your thing, the development community behind the GSII is going to be amazing. Also, this phone is very likely to get Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 as an official release.
The HTC Amaze is a great phone with a 1.5ghz dual core processor with HTC sense (which is a major downfall of the phone apparently, as sense is laggy and choppy on the Amaze. I like sense UI but other launchers are better on this phone) AGAIN, if rooting is your thing, you can fix performance. Heck, you dont even have to root, you just have to download a launcher off the market.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
I would choose between the HTC amaze and the galaxy SII. HTC has an amazing build quality, Galaxy SII has the development and hardware power. If you plan on getting a case for the phone, then how it feels wouldn't matter, I would go with the SGII. It all boils down to personal preference.
Cheers!

I'm sorry I made a mistake, the SGSII is actually a 15.Ghz dual core phone, not 1.2Ghz. Definitely go with the Samsung.

Thanks for being thorough! I don't understand what you mean by hardware power for SGS2, since both SGS2 and HTC Amaze would have the same 1.5 GHz snapdragon processor, 16 GB internal memory, 42+ Mbps HSPA, and the like.
I like HTC because of its build quality and I love how their phones are always weighty, so it feels really solid. But I've heard cons such as the light bleed issues, and some others. SGS2 has a humongous screen, and seems to be unbrickable due to odin (correct me if I'm wrong), but I've heard that the AMOLED and its resolution may prove to be a downside, and the fact that it's very light may make it seem flimsy.
Oh the choices!

Yeah, that's one of the bad things aobut samsung devices: they tend to look and feel flimsy. HTC definitely got it right with their style of build, I am envious that I have never owned an Evo 4G. However, if you buy an otterbox, that really helps with how it feels.
I'm just trying to figure which one is better though, one has the light bleed issues, but they're not horrible, while the other has really low DPI due to the huge screen and low resolution. Currently, I'm leaning towards the Amaze, because most of HTC phones feel really solid.

What phone??? XL, EVO, RazR, SGS2, Galaxy Nexus.

Hi all,
Looking to get a new contract and i'm torn, i actually work as tech support in a phone shop and i'm stumped as to what to pick, I'm a big fan of sense but I'm an eye out, the razr for example is a lovely looking phone but it's senseless and it is a motorola, i've heard bad things about them.
The XL is a beast but it's only single core, i love the size, it's perfect for me and the screen is very vibrant plus it has snazzy headphones.
The evo is everything i want but it's a little small, i know the screen size isn't tiny but next to the xl it is, an xl evo hybrid would be magic.
The SGS2 is hardware wise a decent phone but again i'm not a fan of senseless phones.
And finally the Galaxy Nexus, one of my colleagues has it and it's a gorgeous looking phone, it does everything very well and it hides the fact that it's senseless very well.
I may go for this, but I can only get it on the three network were i am plus i wouldn't be able to get it today, as i don't have my ID.
I'm using the Lumia at the moment and it's a lovely phone but the lack of apps and the restrictions, the price of the apps, the whole experience is being hindered by these limitations.
anyone with experience of these phones, hands on or if they have them, what would you decide on?
Are there any phones in the near future which i should hold out for?
Any help would be good.
Cheers.
I think that you should buy the SGS2.
not getting this sorry... according to your sig you own already 2 htc devices where the sensation is quite new and not much of adifference to the sgs2. would either pick the galaxy nexus or wait for the s3.
My priority list for fones--
1.)Galaxy Nexus (for sure)
2.)SgS2 + 2000mAh battery(will get ICS later on, but i am patient enough for that)
3.)XL (size is downside for me coz i Have BuTTerFingers

If the razr had ics i would switch over to verizon in a heart beat. Phone looks so niceeee and has.good specs as well.

from ur selection i really would go with either the galaxy s2 or galaxy nexus and since im a vanilla lover id def go with the galaxy nexus ...nexus phones ftw.
go mess with the phones at the store and decide for yourself. threads like this are pointless, imho. each device will have its fanboys and haters.
all i can say is galaxy nexus looks superior to others for now. wait a few months and something better will drop, dropping its value to 300-400 bucks.
Galaxy S2
Why?
The most powerful GPU
Best camera
Great battery
Fast UI that NEVER lags
Super lite and thin
Brilliant display.
You're a veteran of three HTC devices, so I wouldn't even look at the Evo or XL. Razr... Motorola... bleh.
Go for GN or SGS2. In that order.

I'd go for the GN for the updates.
yeah, other phones get it... eventually, but with a Nexus phone, you'll always be up to date, months in advance of everyone else.
plus phone looks great... not too crazy about the build quality as it's a Samsung phone but, nice design non the less.
5mp vs. 8mp... mp don't mean crap. what's more important is the sensor. (have not tried out the GN's camera to comment. just stating in general)
don't buy into the Beats Audio nonsense. it's pure marketing. better headphones/EQ settings out on the market.
Dare I suggest either the note (friend has one and it is huge) or wait until ces / mwc
Or get the nexus

Shame on you,
It does not have the most powerful GPU, iPhone 4S and the iPad2 have the most powerful GPU. It doesn't have the best camera, two of my friends own SGS2 and after a month or two they both experienced a lot of UI slowdowns and lagging. Surely there is a point of being too thin also considering it is made of cheap plastic? Loving the ancient WVGA display!
I'd probably go for the Razr it looks lovely!

Did the PW ask about an iPhone or iPad???
In terms of overall Pic quality/video quality the GS2 is the best in the PW's list.
Majority of users and reviewers will tell you the GS2 hardly slows down, its the one high end Android that can be compared to iPhone4S and WP7 phones in terms of a UI thats fast and smooth.
If it was cheap plastic there would be tons of complaints of back covers breaking, screens cracking, plastic quickly chipping etc...all over the web, and the press would be all over it, yet wait...theres none of that.
The "ancient" WVGA display has been praised due to the Super AMOLED Plus tech it uses, and is up there with the Retina display.

Are you kidding, I've done first hand comparisons to the Evo's cameras to the iPhone4 and the iPad2 and the Evo killed them easily.
The SGS2 cam is slightly better than the Evo (again first hand experience) more accurately detects lighting conditions on auto.
The Sensation camera is slightly better than the SGS2 (firsthand) capturing colors better on auto. I do love its camera button, pressure sensitive.
I haven't used the other phones so..
The cameras specs do not make it a good camera if it can capture in 1080p but its blurred, wrong exposure, colors over/under saturated, etc...
But the phones aren't all about the camera. Depending on what you want from it you need to consider how well it would be supported. What kind of accessory items will be available, like car/desk docks. If your a flashaholic then look at what phone threads get the most active developments.
My 2 cents

I came from HTC and was HUGE Sense UI fan, now i have Google Nexus ("Galaxy") and couldn't be happier! it's by far the BEST phone i've got
Experience:
HTC Touch Pro 2
HTC Desire
HTC Desire HD
HTC Sensation
HTC Sensation XE (Borrowed)
SAMSUNG Galaxy S II
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S
SAMSUNG Galaxy Note (Won it from SAMSUNG launch contest then sold it after 2 weeks and got>>)
Google (Galaxy) Nexus!
Definitely the SGSII.

[Q] Pros for Sensation in face of SGS2?

Hi, I have dilemma, the time has come to buy new smartphone
I know this question was considered many times but let me describe my point of view.
My adventure with smartphones started with Nokia N82 and now I have HTC Desire Z. I was really happy having Desire Z and HTC made a real impression on me. Now I am considering to buy HTC Sensation or Galaxy S2. I really liked dev support for HTC and Cyanogenmod ROM and also other ones. I didn't use stock ROM. I am reading about many positives for SGS2 like display, camera, RAM and cons like Touchwiz, display resolution.
I would prefer to choose HTC maybe beacuse I know their product, I didn't have any samsung before.
My preferences:
For me the most important is performence, customization possibilities and dev support. I don't care about outside but only what is inside. I like sometimes to grab a picture or record a movie. For sure I am using the phone for multimedia: playing, web browsing and waching films. It would be nice if some newer games could be played smoothly. And I was really impressed by HTC custom ROMs (especially CM7).
Could you give me any view for situation repsecting my preferences? I wouldn't like to miss HTC and would like to have sure I will be satisifed if choose SGS2 (it said better performance/hardware).
I hope you understand my uncertainties.
Honestly, I think you'd be happy with either.
Both should be able to play new games smoothly e.g. Modern Combat 3.
Both seem to have a good range of dev support over here there's MIUI, Sense and CM ROM's so quite a few choices. Not sure about the GS2 but I'd expect there to be even more.
Overall, comes down to whether you want a Super AMOLED + Display or a Higher resolution screen, solid build quality or a slimmer phone and Sense.
Understand, but I have a little mess after all reviews I have seen and would like to know actually which differences are exaggerated and which are really negligible :/
For SGS2 in comparision to HTC Sensation I get known:
- SGS2 salmoled display better than LCD but worse resolution
- SGS2 1 GB RAM, for HTC left 200MB RAM free on stock ROM
- SGS2 pretty nice photos, better than for HTC
- SGS2 better movie recording
- SGS2 better movies playing
- SGS2 faster GPS sattelites localization
- SGS2 10 multitouch counted, HTC only 4
- SGS2 worse built than HTC (personally prefer HTC onecast built)
- HTC "death grip" issue
- personal - no experience with samsung products
- personal - fall in love with HTC - THE MAIN REASON OF PROBLEM TO MAKE CHOICE
- will CM ROM look and function similar on both phones?
So I am asking you to make some objective assessment of both phones.

Saying SAMOLED is better is subjective. I don't find it's greenish hue all that tempting. Also S-LCD is actually legible in sunlight.
As for ram? Who cares, both phones have zero memory issues, so that in itself is a non-issue.
The Sensation is a decent phone, but it does have a known heat problem (Use it with the screen on for 15 minutes and it's noticeably warm, sometimes hot). Also, the speaker isn't too great. Performance and customizability is very high though. MIUI, that one WP7-esque rom, AOSP GB and 4.0, Senseless roms, and of course Sense 3.0/3.5/3.6. We have a lot to choose from.
Ok, but SGS2 isn't so much customizable and do you think the same ROMs probably except Sense couldn't be find?
I never said the Sensation is a better option - they're both wonderful phones, but two of your points were kind of off is all. Screen type is 100% subjective and RAM doesn't matter as long as the OS has enough. I don't care if the SGS2 has 1GB of ram if either phone can get away with 600-700MB.

The Sensastion does have memory issues. The only reason I rooted and flashed was because Sense kept force closing even when I opened the smallest of apps. Granted, the update to ICS and possible Sense 4.0 may help things but if you don't want to root/flash, I would definitely go with the Galaxy S2.
I love my Sensation right now but the Galaxy S2 has a really, really great screen and it has great performance as well because of the killer CPU/GPU. But if you can, I would really really encourage you to wait for the new HTC One X or S or whatever.
No point in choosing either option IMO after MWC. Wait it out, get used phone, or maybe play with another OS in the interim. Come back for quad core, better camera, bigger battery, and HD screen. Also some of the quad core phones may be Playstation certified by end of year.
Superamoled plus is definitely better than super lcd except resolution. But there is not a big difference between samoled and super LCD. This is the only difference. But think about the future of your phone. Because samsung is the worst company i have ever seen. They won't publish ics for galaxy s ,plus and others. But htc community is bigger so sensation has a future. But galaxy s2 s future will be end by galaxy s3 s release.
I choose htc because I have used samsung before. And they really really pissed me off...
