What phone??? XL, EVO, RazR, SGS2, Galaxy Nexus. - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
Looking to get a new contract and i'm torn, i actually work as tech support in a phone shop and i'm stumped as to what to pick, I'm a big fan of sense but I'm an eye out, the razr for example is a lovely looking phone but it's senseless and it is a motorola, i've heard bad things about them.
The XL is a beast but it's only single core, i love the size, it's perfect for me and the screen is very vibrant plus it has snazzy headphones.
The evo is everything i want but it's a little small, i know the screen size isn't tiny but next to the xl it is, an xl evo hybrid would be magic.
The SGS2 is hardware wise a decent phone but again i'm not a fan of senseless phones.
And finally the Galaxy Nexus, one of my colleagues has it and it's a gorgeous looking phone, it does everything very well and it hides the fact that it's senseless very well.
I may go for this, but I can only get it on the three network were i am plus i wouldn't be able to get it today, as i don't have my ID.
I'm using the Lumia at the moment and it's a lovely phone but the lack of apps and the restrictions, the price of the apps, the whole experience is being hindered by these limitations.
anyone with experience of these phones, hands on or if they have them, what would you decide on?
Are there any phones in the near future which i should hold out for?
Any help would be good.
Cheers.

I think that you should buy the SGS2.

not getting this sorry... according to your sig you own already 2 htc devices where the sensation is quite new and not much of adifference to the sgs2. would either pick the galaxy nexus or wait for the s3.

My priority list for fones--
1.)Galaxy Nexus (for sure)
2.)SgS2 + 2000mAh battery(will get ICS later on, but i am patient enough for that)
3.)XL (size is downside for me coz i Have BuTTerFingers

Razr or galaxy nexus for sure.
If the razr had ics i would switch over to verizon in a heart beat. Phone looks so niceeee and has.good specs as well.

from ur selection i really would go with either the galaxy s2 or galaxy nexus and since im a vanilla lover id def go with the galaxy nexus ...nexus phones ftw.

go mess with the phones at the store and decide for yourself. threads like this are pointless, imho. each device will have its fanboys and haters.
all i can say is galaxy nexus looks superior to others for now. wait a few months and something better will drop, dropping its value to 300-400 bucks.

Galaxy S2
Why?
The most powerful GPU
Best camera
Great battery
Fast UI that NEVER lags
Super lite and thin
Brilliant display.

You're a veteran of three HTC devices, so I wouldn't even look at the Evo or XL. Razr... Motorola... bleh.
Go for GN or SGS2. In that order.

I'd go for the GN for the updates.
yeah, other phones get it... eventually, but with a Nexus phone, you'll always be up to date, months in advance of everyone else.
plus phone looks great... not too crazy about the build quality as it's a Samsung phone but, nice design non the less.
5mp vs. 8mp... mp don't mean crap. what's more important is the sensor. (have not tried out the GN's camera to comment. just stating in general)
don't buy into the Beats Audio nonsense. it's pure marketing. better headphones/EQ settings out on the market.

Dare I suggest either the note (friend has one and it is huge) or wait until ces / mwc
Or get the nexus

Shame on you,
It does not have the most powerful GPU, iPhone 4S and the iPad2 have the most powerful GPU. It doesn't have the best camera, two of my friends own SGS2 and after a month or two they both experienced a lot of UI slowdowns and lagging. Surely there is a point of being too thin also considering it is made of cheap plastic? Loving the ancient WVGA display!
I'd probably go for the Razr it looks lovely!

Did the PW ask about an iPhone or iPad???
In terms of overall Pic quality/video quality the GS2 is the best in the PW's list.
Majority of users and reviewers will tell you the GS2 hardly slows down, its the one high end Android that can be compared to iPhone4S and WP7 phones in terms of a UI thats fast and smooth.
If it was cheap plastic there would be tons of complaints of back covers breaking, screens cracking, plastic quickly chipping etc...all over the web, and the press would be all over it, yet wait...theres none of that.
The "ancient" WVGA display has been praised due to the Super AMOLED Plus tech it uses, and is up there with the Retina display.

Are you kidding, I've done first hand comparisons to the Evo's cameras to the iPhone4 and the iPad2 and the Evo killed them easily.
The SGS2 cam is slightly better than the Evo (again first hand experience) more accurately detects lighting conditions on auto.
The Sensation camera is slightly better than the SGS2 (firsthand) capturing colors better on auto. I do love its camera button, pressure sensitive.
I haven't used the other phones so..
The cameras specs do not make it a good camera if it can capture in 1080p but its blurred, wrong exposure, colors over/under saturated, etc...
But the phones aren't all about the camera. Depending on what you want from it you need to consider how well it would be supported. What kind of accessory items will be available, like car/desk docks. If your a flashaholic then look at what phone threads get the most active developments.
My 2 cents

I came from HTC and was HUGE Sense UI fan, now i have Google Nexus ("Galaxy") and couldn't be happier! it's by far the BEST phone i've got
Experience:
HTC Touch Pro 2
HTC Desire
HTC Desire HD
HTC Sensation
HTC Sensation XE (Borrowed)
SAMSUNG Galaxy S II
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S
SAMSUNG Galaxy Note (Won it from SAMSUNG launch contest then sold it after 2 weeks and got>>)
Google (Galaxy) Nexus!

Definitely the SGSII.

I got rid of sense so RAM is not a problem at all. Idk if RAM is an issue with sense running since I took it off the first day.
Have over 70 apps and still plenty of space left
The screen is nice but there are two types one made by sharp and one made by auo. The sharp one is a little sharper but not as vibrant the auo is pretty vibrant but has a little bit of ghosting issues. I have an auo and I'm pretty happy with it.
Currently running at 1.7 with no issues

Me either. Everyone just keeps saying its better on paper. To bad real world use doesn't take place on a sheet of paper. Bottom line. Samsung is on fire right now and nobody can put them out. Its hard to deny that they know how to optimize their devices and create good drivers along with having super fast NAND memory and insane display panels. Oh and lets not forget. Engadget gave the GSII the award of having the second best camera in history only trailing the N95.
People can hate on Samsung all they want but their is a reason why they sell a **** ton of Android devices. All the Samsung haters can sit back and watch the GSII break the sales records for Android devices to date.

Might be getting a gs2. Though, not saying the sensation is a bad phone. In fact I love my phone.

I feel like the sensation is built better than the SG2. It feels a bit more solid in my opinion. The screen is sort of a toss up, the Samsung's does have better colors and stuff but the Sensations's has a better resolution.
The SG2 will probably have better performance in its unmodified state than a sensation, because of the lower resolution and the Exynos chip.
Personally, I would have preferred the SG2, but I ended up getting the Sensation just because the SG2 hasn't been officially released in the US yet. I ended up paying just under $400 for a new sensation without contract while the absolute cheapest I could find a SG2 for was $650 plus tax.
i will buy htc Sensation and i will installing custom rom but first what i should do ?? unlock bootloader from htc or what ?
SGS2 is ugly, cheap made and Touchwiz is horrible. The Sensation feels better built and Sense 3 is fantastic. RAM is NOT a problem. The higher resolution screen is beautiful.
Personally I used http://revolutionary.io/ S-off to unlock the phone.
If you use the HTC unlocked bootloader, you are basically telling HTC you have voided your warranty. But with http://revolutionary.io/, it can be revered and HTC won't know about it.

I've heard this from a lot of people, I came from a Galaxy S, and prefered TouchWiz to Sense, many great features over it imo (not the launcher or widgets, actual apps.. contacts, dialer, calculator, email, etc). I find my self craving AOSP apps with the sensation.. and absolutely hated any rom with aosp apps on the Galaxy. Sense 3.0 feels clunky and less refined.
Just my .02
Comparing hardware, HTC feels better. But the Galaxy was super lightweight, and super thin and ergonomically better imo (side power/lock button) but has a 'cheap' feel to it (because made super light and thin), but was very sturdy. Super Amoled screen looked good, but qHD beats it imo (extra real estate makes up for any lack of prettiness and then some). The camera on the samsung was superb and will really miss it. And comparing phone speed, as long as the UI is smooth and its quick opening apps, its fine. I'm not transcoding movies or anything crazy like that or running crazy intense graphics so every last drop of score in a benchmark is pointless to me.
Galaxy s 2 I wish I got one.

Well I had Galaxy S2 and at the moment have a sensation. While I had s2 I had 2 issues. Yellowish left side screen only noticeable até gray background and pink spot on photos and i replaced the unit, got rid of yellowish and almost gone pink spot but then had hd video recording frame rate drop at low light conditions... Well i thought, I payed 500 euro for this? So traded with sensation and this is the real thing that happened, even with the new 2.3.4 super fast ROM it doesn't compare with the speed of s2 but ok, is fast enough... Had touch screen issues already not responding to my command and having force closes with everyday apps and even now phone reboots itself when trying to play a game... Also phone calls sound thin and low volume, having a little distortion, audio recording also too thin. Already asked for a replace going back to S2 and pink spot and video problems since the rest just feels quick and perfect...
BUT I love sense, if anyone depends on it, don't go wrong, sensation and sense 3.0 is just so easy and complete, beautiful and with new update 2.3.4 no lag at all! I hope I had HTC build, responsiveness and speed of Samsung and sense... About the screen at the beginning I thought samoled+ was way better but now I think is a matter of taste and what we get used to...
Hope it helps

type in "sensation review videos" and/or "galaxy s 2 review videos"
???
profit
I'll just go ahead and say it like a douche--do your part and read the damn reviews. This same question gets asked day after day, and there are tons of review articles/videos done by the professionals.
Would you let your friends decide for you what car to buy? Or would you rather do your due diligence, perform your own research, and make your own decision?
I can't definitely say since I've never used a SGS2, but I would have gone with it if it was available in the US at the same time the Sensation came out. I don't get why a lot of Sensation owners like to hate on it. It's made out of plastic? OK. Tons of electronics these days are made out of plastic (just taking a 270 degree visual sweep of my room I spot a primarily plastic TV, a primarily plastic Xbox 360 with plastic controllers and network adapter, a plastic multi-effects pedal for my guitar, and a plastic alarm clock). It bothers me when people make it like plastic build quality is such a big deal, especially when it's in fact better for reception and consequently makes the phone better at its purpose. It's even worse when I see people moan about plastic build quality and then later I see them posting in the accessories section about the best cases. If you put cases on your phones why would you give a care about the build material? You don't feel or see it when it's in a case.
There are only a few things that I think the Sensation definitely does better, and those are screen resolution, UI, and build quality. The screen resolution isn't that big an advantage because the SGS2 counters it with better brightness and more vivid colors, the UI isn't that big an advantage because Sense was inherently finished poorly for the Sensation (lag city), and the build quality isn't that big an advantage because it has the negative side effects of the deathgrip and reception problems (and let's face the fact that "unibody" was a joke all along). The SGS2 outspecs and outdoes the Sensation imo in most areas. Easily the better processor, RAM, internal memory by a long shot, camera, overall performance, battery life, speaker by a long shot, etc.
Just my .02. The Sensation is still a good phone and I'll be keeping it till at least the end of the year, but I'm mildly disappointed with it. It's not that I regret it, because as a TMOUS guy it was the best option available to me at the time.

Same here. I actually love Touch Wiz. It looks exactly like any of the launchers most of the people here put on their phone. Its a lot closer to vanila Android than Sense is and its also a lot less laggy. The Samsung clients such as email, messages and contacts not only look better but they function better as well. I love how you can swipe on a contact to initiate a message or phone call. Touch Wiz also has better Facebook and Twitter integration. The only thing I think Sense does better is widgets but I don't use them anyway.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S II?

So I have an iPhone 4S right now.
Long story short, I switched from iPhone 4 to Droid X2. Hated how sluggish the X2 was but LOVED the openness of Android. And returned it and switched to the 4S when it arrived.
I love the look of Ice Cream Sandwich and every preview shows it running incredibly smoothly. It felt as though Android was in beta before ICS, and that it's finally moved into Gold product stage.
I'm dying waiting for the Nexus and mainly want it because it will have Ice Cream Sandwich.
My question is, should I just get the Galaxy S II or should I wait another few weeks for the Nexus? I don't care that much about 4G LTE. I DO want ICS. I've been reading the forums and it seems the S II is closing to get an ICS ROM that's fully functional.
What does everyone think? Get the S II today or wait a few more weeks for the Nexus?
2 days ago I would have said get the SII. But as full reviews are coming out now, I would definitely wait for the Nexus. Other than ICS, it is reviewed as an all around better phone (minus the camera, which is better on the SII). I do not own an SII, but you are going to get some disgustingly bias comments from people who do. Like I said, I am basing this off of reviews from reputable sites.
Thanks!
I'm very tempted by the Nexus (and the reviews are awesome!) I just have no idea when it's going to arrive. This month? December 8?
I'm very tempted by the S II because I'm hearing it runs pretty much as well as the Nexus, ICS is almost ready to be released (through ROMs, I'm sure the "official" release is a ways away), and it's cheaper.
Tough decision. I'm tired of iOS though and want to move on to a grown up OS. I just don't want to keep waiting. Argh.
Yes I'm bias I own an SGS2 but just check the specs out, lower spec camera, amoled not amoled+, no guerilla glass! The only real plus the Nexus Galaxy has is vanilla ICS and the SGS2 will have ICS soon enough whether it be Sammy ICS or custom ROM ICS.
Look at the price difference for lower specs, are you willing to pay that much more just to have ICS early??

Better hardware, better software, better CPU, and I will quote the part about the display
"The other significant thing about the screen is its resolution. It’s a 720p HD Super AMOLED panel (full resolution 1280x720), similar to the display on the Samsung Galaxy Note. And just as we said in our review of that phone, this is about as good as it gets in terms of display technology on a portable device."
The only thing lower spec is the camera...this is a developer phone, who cares about the camera.
SGSII is better. The processor in the Galaxy Nexus is not as good as the ones in the world SGS2 or the Epic Touch. The only thing this phone has really is the higher resolution screen. Tit for tat it's ok, but not ground-breaking.
Why 5MP camera on a higher res than throwing in a better 8MP camera like the one on the SGS2
Plus the hype about the phone, and the true specs were a let down just to be able to run ICS. And as far as vanilla android all of the other makers have the ability to run stock android with out the company's UI.
I have used a Galaxy Nexus and the only thing I liked was the incredible screen. The rest was crap...including ICS.

Hey, I am just going off of reviews from well known sites THAT HAVE TRIED BOTH PHONES! Until someone else chimes in that has in fact used both phones for more than 24 hours, your argument holds no ground. I have taken probably a total of 15 pictures with my phone in the past year, so I could really care less about the camera..
More reasons not to go with the Nexus, 16gb USB storage and NO SD card expansion.
No flash until Adobe support it later in the year!?!
And I meant SAMOLED and SAMOLED+.

The question for me, I guess, is how close are we to having a working custom ICS rom for the S II? I like the specs of the S II better, and would prefer the smaller screen - I think 4.65" is pretty big.
I just want to be able to have ICS and not have to wait months and months for the Samsung official update with everything skinned. I want Vanilla android or something close to it, but would love it on the S II.
Interesting thread !
Since I keep questionning myself about the very same question at the moment, I'm constantly doing prons and cons game
Here is my observations so far :
Screen
Galaxy S II : smaller screen (4.3") but S-Amoled Plus and Gorilla Glass. No waste of screen since it got hardware buttons
Galaxy Nexus : bigger (4.6") not "plus" but more DPI and 720p, everyone accords to qualify it to sharper. Good for visioning (films etc)
CPU / GPU
Since the two got the same CPU (Cortex A9 dual core), let's take a look a the GPU
SGS2 : Mali 400Mp, strong for graphic features
SGN : PowerVR SGX540, not so good with graphic features
Here is a beanchmark comparison : http://www.anandtech.com/show/5133/galaxy-nexus-ice-cream-sandwich-initial-performance
The choice of Google seems to go for user experience (general use, browsing etc). I don't think le GN is tailored to be a gaming beast for example
Hardware
The SGN doesn't have any micro-SD slot and can't do mass storage out of the box (but XDA dev are here for sure ), it's a Google choice to unify the storage : http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...behind-galaxy-nexus-lack-of-usb-mass-storage/
No notification LED for the SGS2 but got the jack above
Camera is better on SGS2 but since the captor on a mobile phone are not very good ... Can we really see a difference ?
So ?
So the choice is yours
The 2 devices are great, it really depends what you are seeking for
I don't speak about ICS since everyone here know it will come to the SGS2 soon
If you want a device for gaming, I say go for the SGS2
If you want a new device and a good big beautifull screen, pick the SGN
What do you think ?
EDIT : a usefull link to compare the 2 : http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3621&idPhone2=4219

The 4.65 inch screen is a little misleading. Since there are no hardware buttons, the bottom part of the screen is dedicated for this. With that part of the screen gone, it is comparable to 4.3".

Yeah but the on screen buttons are hidden when you got a full screen app (videos, games, apps developpers set to fullscreen) so you got a real 4.65" screen for that

Yea, quite a bit of issues. But it is to be expected with a newly released phone, and the SGSII has many of the same issues. One note about the volume bug issue (which I hear is the most predominent issue). That would not affect users in the United States. It only happens on an Edge network running a certain frequency that is not supported here.
Get it
As a person who went through this, then thought screw it, I'll take the leap.
GET THE NEXUS
It is an amazing phone and in my opinion equally to the SGSII better taken into account the software.
My main point was- I don't like the SII I much prefer the look and shape of the Nexus.
However the main plus point is the Camera and stock android.
No lag at all with the camera and no crappy touchwiz meaning that you don't HAVE to root to get rid of it.

Are you kidding with this post?

Which of the following devices to follow up my HTC Touch Pro 2 ?

Hi,
I just sold my HTC Touch Pro 2 and considering the following phones:
HTC Sensation 299
HTC Encredible S €303 - €315
HTC Desire S €239
Samsung Galaxy S2 €226 (probably not possible, false price on Ebay)
Sony Xperia Arc 266
Sony Xperia Ray €279
Regulus Android dual sim €215
In which order you would prefer or which phones wouldn't you recommend?
HTC Incredible hands down.
I had the first Droid Incredible and I absolutely loved it.
If this is too pricy for you, the Galaxy S2, the Sensation then the Desire would be good choices also.
I'm not a fan of Sony phones so I can't really help with that, sorry.
I just checked youtube and the Incredible has the best contrast/viewing angle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oLz3CT35-4
But on this site 62% voted Sensation (1800 votes) and only 23% voted Incredible (600 votes)
http://www.androidauthority.com/incredible-s-desire-s-sensation-–-which-is-better-12619/
So I guess Incredible has best screen and Sensation best overall ?
Since the Sensation has at least the same specs as the Incredible, plus bigger screen resolution, dualcore CPU (overclocks to at least 1.5GHz), better GPU (Adreno 220 vs 205) and HDMI-out via MHL, I'd take (and I just took) the Sensation. Screen might be a little better on the Incredible but not by so much it would make a big difference.
Galaxy S2 is a great phone too, I just don't trust Samsung that much... Sensation feels expensive when held in hand, S2 is too plasticky. The super AMOLED screen is awesome though, much better than anything HTC can offer at the moment. Also S2 might be slightly faster of the two, since it has more ram and ~30% smaller screen resolution.
All those seem like downgrades... Winmo is a higher quality OS than android and runs better even on inferior hardware. Sure it didn't have an app catalog, but in comparison I'd stick with winmo or upgrade to Microsoft's latest OS. No point in going from poor quality OS to poorer quality OS.
nobody wants a winmo... it's a dead mobile os at the moment.
perhaps with some luck it might pick up steam but it's not looking too good at the moment.
overall(and out of the choices listed) I'd say the Senny.
not saying that because I own one, it's just that it's a overall win.
now having said that if you can get the SGS2 for the price listed then I'd say jump on it.
long as all the plastic doesn't bother you and can live with the lower resolution screen... (hopefully it's the Exynos version though... if it's the Snapdragon, I'd still get the Senny over it)
No it was a fake auction, i'm still doubting between Sensation & Incredible S ...
Isn't the screen too big from the sensation, isn't it more pleasant to have the 4 inch Incredible S in your hand with better contrast/field of view ?
Does the Incredible S has the latest Sense & Android Android 2.3 Gingerbread, same as the Sensation (or tweaked rom here available) ?
Will ICS be available for the Incredible S also like for the Sensation?
Maybe you should go to a store which sells them both and try which one feels better in your hands? Sensation is actually quite sleek, and only marginally bigger than the Incredible S. Sensation's display takes more room with thinner borders, so the phones are quite similar in size. I have big hands so the size is not a problem for me, but I have to admit that proper usage with only one hand isn't possible. Though I suspect the same goes for the I S too...
I wouldn't worry too much about the viewing angles and contrast of the Sensation's display, I'm coming from Desire's AMOLED and am happy with my Sensation. Of course the AMOLED was/is better but both Sensation and Incredible have S-LCD's so the difference can't be massive.
I'm not 100% sure about the Incredible S but I think both phones have a pretty good level of support and new roms in XDA. So choose which one you like more, if your gut tells you to get the Incredible S, go for it, it's a good phone too.

HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy s2

It seems that they are a lot of people who have come from the galaxy s2 to the one x. and I am one of those people.
This thread is to express your thoughts on which is better and for what reason.
my opinion:
s2 over the one X:
Better battery life
more Roms at the moment
Smaller (I prefer Bigger though)
AMOLED screen has better blacks
Higher resolution front facing camera
Better video recording quality in my opinion
Touchwiz seems to be lighter on the RAM and processors
most issues have being fixed via updates (lets hope this will be the case for the One X)
One X over the S2:
Bigger (depends what you like)
Higher resolution screen
Produces better whites
Better camera quality in my opinion
My device gets warm, not hot like my S2 did.
HTC Sense over Touchwiz (depends what you like)
Better build quality
quad core
I personally think better call quality.
My son had his upgrade at the weekend and went for the Galaxy S2 over the One X and loves it... i have to say I found it a tough choice but i prefer the Samsung over all as I hate HTC battery life and wifi signal generally.
Both awesome phones though!
Well i think its not fair to compare those two because they belong to different "generations".I do agree with you on both pros and cons of s2.We still have to wait for s3,then it will be true battle
Yeah I don't think you can compare the two. Have both must say one x for me is far superior. To add to your list one x
Looks and feels better in the hand.
ICS.
Better Keyboard.
LED light notification.
The only reason I would go with gs2 over the one x is simply it would far cheaper option.

Also, I think once you're used to HTC Sense, it is quite hard to switch to a different user interface, though I believe the SG galaxy UI is also well thought of.
I went from a SGS2 to a HTC One X. I felt the HTC was always "laggy" as if things were not being gpu accelerated. It always seem to sit on the helper core in many apps overall the experience was not as expected for such a "fast" device. My SGS2 with ICS and Gingerbread is flawless, everything is smooth. Much more so over the One X with scrolling. Other positives is the blacks are much better, motion clarity is nicer removable battery and SD card and the battery life is much better. The "back" button is also in the right place since I am right handed rather than having to stretch my thumb across the phone, it also doesn't have the issue with the 3 dots at the bottom in most apps.
The One X has a nice resolution screen and a decent camera and I do like the LED notification everything else id say the SGS2 is better for which is bizarre considering it is a phone which is over a year old.
I have just got hold of a One S since I am taking the One X back and that is a different beast. Battery life is fantastic ( 2 days of heavy usage ), blazing fast much lighter and "better" in the hand than the One X is. Unfortunately is it let down by the pentile screen but it is actually surprisingly good overall I am much happier with the One S than the One X.
The SGS2 is just a fantastic phone considering the age... I am really looking forwards to to the SGS3
There is a 'hack' somewhere for the One X, which would resolve the battery issues?
i have galaxy s2 and i love it. go for galaxy s2.
when SGS3 comes out, the price of SGS2 will definitely drop. and that's good news cause SGS2 is still pretty much a kickass phone!

HTC One S or Samsung Galaxy S III?

Hey guys, I'm getting a new phone in August when my contract dies. My current phone is a stock Nexus S running Jellybean. I'm trying to decide between getting the HTC One S, or the Samsung Galaxy S III. Both are priced at $400 on a 2-year contract with Virgin mobile, and I'm completely stuck on making my decision. With the One S, have any of you had considerable problems or issues with it? Would you get an SIII if you could? I believe that each of these phones are evenly matched, and each have their strengths and their weaknesses. I'm a fan of HTC Sense 4.0, and i like the overall build quality of the One S, but the S III has more ram, a removable battery and expandable memory. The HTC One X is not available with Virgin mobile, so I cannot get the HTC equivalent of the S III. Which would you recommend?
Thanks
Well. That depends. If you love trying new ROMs/kernels on your device, the s3 is going to be better in the long run. Not that the one s lacks a healthy dev community. We have many great devs with awesome Roms but the s3 has more people on board.
On the other hand, I found the one s more stylish and I like Sense 4 better.
Personally, I have no issues with my One S and with HTC promising a JB update, we know that, hopefully, all software related issues will be squished. You could look around for some common issues but nothing serious IMO but YMMV.

Get he gs 3 and the free 50gbs of storage on dropbox. Return it and be happier with the one s and get another 25gbs of drop box for free. And keep the one s with 75gbs of storage space

then you prolly didnt complete the steps to get the 25 gb. you should have gotten an email when you registered for DB or signed in which told you how to get the 25 gb.
as for your q, im more than happy with the one s. The screen is the perfect size whereas i believe the SG3 has a screen thats too big to be comfortable. Maybe if you have big hand its ok lol. The only drawback i suppose would be the 16 gb storage, but using DB and google play music, that isn't really an issue. in the end though, it all comes down to your choice. Both are amazing phones
HTC One S was my choice. I prefer Sense 4.0 over Samsung's skin as well as I think HTC is doing better with updates than Sammy.

I like when the face matches the words.
You know it...
Thanks guys, also, how's the display on the one s? Its a pentile which means it could be a little jagged but my Nexus S has one and I really don't find it that bad.

Display is great, obviously not as sharp as the gs 3 and x and has less screen real estate due to the 720p res that the x and gs 3 have.
I'll let anandtech finish it off

The One S does not have 720 dude, it has qhd. I have owned both devices and the GS3 is miles ahead of the One S

And of course you would expect the display of a device that costs about £130 more to be better.
the galaxy s3 is not miles ahead of the one s. I had it. Glad I got my money back. Its nice but it is way too big and feels like a kids toy.
I found myself in same position 3 weeks ago, and I struggled for weeks researching my choices between one s and s3. All my friends got s3 so I had a good chance to try it.
Though what s3 does is impressive as far as speed and memory goes, it seriously lags in look & feel and coolness factor. It feels like lugging around a tablet than phone and it barely fits in pocket.
Compare that to one s, which I finally ended up getting which is incredibly fast, memory though less never been a hindrance. I had 10gigs available after all system programs which I believe is plentiful when added with the online storage options.
Sure s3 beats one s in all test scores but one s Screen is unbelievable, phone is sleek and stylish and you can still reach around with one hand and fits in your pocket. Camera will put your point and shoot cameras to rest and I cannot be more happy.
And battery life is great too. I got a about 12 hours on moderate use even with couple of camera flashes and I still have 20% left.
Ultimately think of the long term impacts of having a tablet for a phone for next 2 years just because it is fast and more memory, vs. having a sleek, handy pocket able phone which is still fast with decent amount of memory.

Does Adobe Flash still work on both devices?
gs3 = hot and plastic
main reason i switched from gs2 to one s
i tried the gs3 its just gets hot when using the phone
Actually the GS 3 doesn't even beat the S in all of the benchmark tests (both the quad and S4 version), yes the res. does have an impact but then the XL has the same hardware but also 720P res. and it still beats the GS 3 in the majority of tests.
The GS 3 international version only beats both in the tests, which uses the GPU such as quadrant etc. as the GPU is far better than the adreno 225.
Only areas that the GS 3 is better is:
screen
1080P recording
storage/SD slot
removable battery
bigger developing community
Everything else is more or less same or better on the S (IMO):
- camera is more or less the same (some photos look better on the GS 3, others look better on the S), however, the UI is better than touchwiz alternative and has way more features, which are actually cool and make taking photos more enjoyable.
- Speed/smoothness is more or less the same, only reason the GS 3 appears to be smoother is due to the animations/timing that is used, could achieve the same if you flashed those animations and had the exact same timings, besides were getting JB soon hopefully so there will be virtually no difference then (on any of the phones)
- audio is more or less the same (some say the GS 3 is better, others say the S is better)
- out of the box battery life is better (to be expected considering the S has a smaller battery and is only qHD), not by a huge amount though, however, with the GS 3 you can carry spare batteries around with you
- sense V4 is far far better in looks/UI, unified feel, the stock apps are amazing such as the gallery, calendar etc. touchwiz has loads of gestures and some cool features (but the majority of these are being ported over to every other android phone, such as the smart stay feature (iseeyou, works great on my S), Svoice, smart status bar (can drag the notification bar down when in an app full screen) etc. only a matter of time till we get things that like smart alert etc. The same can't be said with sense app/features though. IMO touchwiz is too bloated and no real unified feel across the apps/menus etc. everything just looks disorganized and the colour scheme is too kiddish/cartoonish
- and lastly the build/perceived quality of the S is miles ahead of the GS 3 and IMO looks far better compared to the GS 3 (subjective the looks though)
Do you want a phone that fits in your trouser pocket?
Get the One S
Are you a basketball player with huge hands?
Get the One X or Galaxy S3
Want to watch lots of movies?
Get a tablet.
Phones are getting far too big these days. Unfortunately there are no top spec 4" phones, so I got the One S. It's still in the mail so I can't really review it further. Manufacturers really need to learn from apple here, make it pocket sized for f&# sake. Also half the market is female and even being an average size male I find the latest phones too large.
There are some things that suck on the One S though: No MicroSD , Stupid capacitive buttons, at least samsung always have one proper button, sense UI looks like tacky plastic ****.
If you do get one s make sure it's not the old snapdragon S3 SoC which has worse battery life.
I whole heartedly agree with the above. I'm 6'0 healthy 225 pounds guy that thought the beastly oversized gs3 would fit me. I was wrong. That thing is just way to big. I found one handed operations almost impossible. The display isn't that great either, not for the price. Plus I had a amoled smear that looked like a smiley face smack in the center of the screen. The one s that uses Samsung amoled displays shows no sign of such things.

Yeah I know
But the GS 3 is far better for light metering and smoothness and slightly better quality as well.
