So I was reading a blog about future upgrades for phones and saw no mention of our beloved MyTouch 4G. Any thoughts? http://m.blogs.computerworld.com/18077/android_23_upgrade_list

Android 2.3 Upgrade List: The Rest of the Phones
If a phone isn't listed here -- like the original Motorola Droid, for example -- it's likely because there just isn't much clear info available yet about its fate. Odds are, we'll soon be hearing more and more details with each passing week.

There have been some reports of HTC reps saying we will have an update, and the site says they do not have info on all phones
I think the fact that the myTouch phones use the stupid, TMO customized version of Sense means OS updates will be slightly delayed compared to other phones that use more common user interfaces (only the myTouch phones use "mySense", but there are lots of HTC phones that use regular Sense). That being said, it would be shocking if a phone with hardware as powerful as the MT4G has doesn't get a 2.3 update, or even 2.4 if that comes out eventually.
Shocking yes, but typical in the logic of big business? Not at all.

1) Do you really want an update from t-mobile?
2) If the G2 gets it, my guess is the MT4G would follow - considering the hardware similarities.
3) CyanogenMod7>Any OTA from T-Mobile.

The vast majority of MT4G's and in fact all Android phones are not rooted. Although most XDA users don't want an OTA, most users of the MT4G would benefit from it. Also, the development community can benefit from a 2.3 OTA because of kernels and drivers that are Gingerbread compatible specifically made for our device, that we don't currently have.

If CM7RC4 is as good as it is now, image what will happen if we get the official drivers, and various protocols.
as much as i like AOSP ROMs i'd love to see some HomeBaked goodies using the real deal.
And i know TeamRoyal would cook up some mighty good stuff as well.
Yeah it would deff be nice to see ASOP for us,that would open up so much for us.
If the g2 gets it, and they release kernel source, it wont matter if we get an official version or not.
Ive never like stock, stupid crap i didnt need, slow, and built how they want..Cm7 has everything i need. But if the mytouch 3g got froyo, dont see why this phone, which started at 2.2.1, wont see gingy.
humm... when the ginger comes out i bet the honey based custom will also be out. i take the honey then
man... im hungry
2.3
The MT4G will in fact be getting 2.3
We're definitely getting 2.3............ Multiple sources confirm!
great newss

I'm new to the inspire (just switched from Sprint and the Epic 4g) and was wondering if HTC/ATT was still doing development for the inspire or not? Can we expect any updates to the current version or are they pretty much done?
I know on the Epic they were still pushing ROM's occasionally.
Just wondering what the future might hold or if we are stuck with what we have (other then custom ROM's).
Thanks.

History would suggest that we've gotten everything we will get from ATT. HTC may continue to develop for the Ace, but it will most likely only be released for the DHD. (Desire HD)

if AT&T is still selling this phone in 18 months then yes, per the alliance they made with Google, the Inspire will get Ice Cream Sandwich. At the Last Google I/O At&T was among the companies agreeing to this improved situation, vowing to bring their phones current.

Yeah, I've been trying to find a custom that I like but so far it seems that they all have small "quirks" of some kind or another. Believe it or not my stock is running very very good so I'm reluctant to change.
Was just curious if they would release another base ROM for the inspire. It appears everything new is based from other phones.
Thanks for the info.

That is the norm with US based phones. They get maybe one release from the carrier and the rest are ports from the euro version of the phone as they are supported longer. We have seen the only update from att that we are going to get.

No, there's nothing stock about the rom itself. But it does have a clean stock feel to it. That and it's the most stable I've tried for daily driver use.

Actually it wasn't about look and feel but performance. Right now my stock (rooted) is running really well believe it or not. Great battery life, great signal, good GPS etc. It seems that most custom ROMs I looked into (based off different phone base) had issues of some sort that people were complaining about. Battery, FC's, GPS etc.
In all honesty I don't really like Sense so I would'nt mind a ROM that didn't have it. Some things I like are, ASOP lockscreen, Battery percent in notification bar, Launcher othere than sense.
Right now I'm using a battery widget and widget locker to change my lock screen. Also using Zeam launcher insted of Sense.

You piqued my interest, actually it was Zel. I started thinking about what is out there, actively being developed, based on US Inspire roms. I took a look over in the Dev section and all I could come up with is ClearDroid.
I think you can still get roms from Pirate based on the ATT gingerbread release and Juicy's TELUS DHD is supposed to be the same hardware as the Inspire, but his ROM is based on the TELUS release.
I have used ClearDroid gingerbread. It's a great ROM and ClearD and his team tenaciously develop and support. It's a little vanilla, compared to some DHD or port based roms, but is better than the ATT approved ROM in every way. It is faster, more stable, prettier and better supported. I always go back to it when I've had my fill of the eye candy. I won't tell you it's the best ROM out there, everyone has different tastes, and we've got great devs doing amazing things with other bases, but you may want to try it before completely writing off custom roms.
It's just my opinion, and worth about as much as that old Pentium 2 in my closet, but i'm throwing it out there anyway.

That's the beautiful thing about Android and this site. You can try a variety of different flavors and combinations and always go back to where you started. You'll never know if you like something or not if you don't try it. Just do a nandroid and test the waters.
The Sense 3 DHD leak is pretty nice and would be a great upgrade for the Inspire but, alas, we'll probably never see an actual Inspire based on this build because AT&T has the final say. AT&T is dragging HTC down like an anchor tied to a sack full of toasters.
I don't know, There just doesn't seem much hype or effort going into the AOSP roms or the customization for them. I feel like it's a lost cause. I see sense being updated rather often and I dont see the hype over sense. This is legit T-Mobiles best phone. I just don't understand why there's lack of development for AOSP roms. Yes we have Cyanogenmod and we had Xboarder and Htcclay for a short term, which I feel hurt the sensation community. I just don't see much coming out. Which makes me want to move on (maybe trade up for a nexus s)
I'm not saying anyones work here wasnt good, I give you mucho props for developing and taking your time on this, it's more than i could say for myself that doesn't know anything about development.
Comment, Negative or Positive. I dont care. I'd like to hear what anyone or everyone thinks.

I agree completely, and I have shared this same opinion multiple times already in this section. I am not used to AOSP/CM being so unpopular with the users, I don't even understand how CM's views are surpassed by a Sense ROM. Every other phone I had it would be the opposite, but here you guys prefer Sense only and give it more support, causing the Devs to pay more attention to it instead. I noticed when I 1st came here that Faux was developing, but he had no AOSP ROM for this phone, I said hmmm at first cause I was curious about the situation. I was hoping for a AOSP from Faux as I had on my MT4G, now I know other devs have AOSP, but the support for it isn't as intensive as in other phone sections IMO.
I have to agree, coming from an evo where it seems I had many many options of roms. this phone looks wise is everything I've wanted(the reason I obviously bought it). but I would take a nexus s if given the opportunity to be honest. I don't know what it is maybe due to the amaze being out? or the Sgs2? but I guess were third in the list fir t mobile devices now so not that popular anymore?
just my 2 cents.

I think people mean Gingerbread ASOP ROMs which we have had the source for a year now.
same here... not impressed with any AOSP Roms... camera very bad... many FC issues and miui with battery drain issues...
Same here...i am really done...once the galaxy nexus come out i will get it and be done with it. I would have sworn this phone would have cm7 by now. I should have gotten the nexus s last year if not because it didn't have sd...but this time around i will just stick with the nexus. REALLY done with all these so called wannabe nexus.

Yeah, it's quite disappointing. I was quite shocked tbh, coming from the Desire (which has ****loads of roms). Guess I should have done a bit more research before buying my Sensation XE, but then again I love it anyway, despite the number of AOSP roms
Maybe the Sensation just isn't appealing to the majority of devs out there? Or perhaps it's just a matter of time before the devs from older models move on to better phones (hopefully Sensation)...
Fortunately though the devs we do have are awesome, and I for one am quite fulfilled with my current cm7 rom
Mad?
Are you kidding me? They are the BEST! They dont drain your battery.
I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile in hopes that I would finally get a phone that gets updates. Granted, this phone does get updates - to Sense. But I am slightly disappointed after seeing so much movement on these GSM devices in the past. Now it seems like there's a lot of focus in the CDMA area. Go figure.
I'd much rather have a GSM/HSPA phone, and I do wish we had a fully functioning CM7 so we can have better ROMs - especially for what was supposed to be HTC's flagship phone.

The only thing that is stopping me use AOSP roms are the terrible camera app they have. P.s CoreDroid really is disgusting to look at, I had it on my sensation for less than 5 mins before I downloaded a different rom. Overuse of colour and awful fonts really is not sleek, just tacky.
Yep. Thats right. AOSP roms are way better. the only thing people are wanting from the sense rom is the camera app i bet you.

Not really. I use this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321556
with the Faux kernel. It's AOSP with Cyanogenmod Settings included, so it's basically CM. At this point in time, AOSP roms for the Sensation are about perfect, so there isn't much development needed. Now we're all just hoping for AOSP Android 4.0.
Also, I agree about the camera, it's the only thing I like about Sense. The AOSP camera sucks hard.
I'm definitely not disappointed. For me, CM7 is faster, simpler, more elegant and more useful than Sense in every way.
The camera is the ONLY thing that is better on Sense, but the CM7 camera has improved greatly and is without a doubt good enough.
Btw, I've been using CM7 as my daily driver since it was released on this phone (while occasionally trying out every single Sense rom available) and have had zero issues with it since like alpha 6.. so what bugs are you all talking about??
There is also nothing on any Sense rom that can even compare to the amount of options you're able to customize with Cyanogenmod Settings. The status bar tweaks and notification bar widget tweaks alone are simply amazing.
i love sense... i buyed a sensation instead of a sgs2 because of sense why should i change this?
Thing is, If I wanted a stock android look I would have bought a nasty plastic samsung. AOSP may be fast, but twithout exception, they are pig ugle and dull. Sense makes a difference. HTC and sense is a winning combo, mainly because of sense

Not saying you're wrong or I disagree, but most people are saying that Sense is what's holding HTC back. I understand both points, but I do agree that Sense is in need of an overhaul - and while Sense may be nicer than Gingerbread, Ice Cream's UI looks great.

S-OFF will solve all your worries. The Desire HD was a high-end phone for HTC, they won't abandon it for at least 2 years. The last version of ICS is probably where updates will end, or it might get a single update that will get it to Android 5.0. Any more is unreasonable.
I keep hearing that AT&T took it out of inventory, but when did that actually happen? I bought my inspire only 2 weeks ago, and while it was from a RadioShack, as a former employee I don't remember there stock ever being that far behind
Considering they just had a sale on the inspire I think they still have them

Any HTC ICS phone is needed.... We need Sence for ICS and that can be taken from any HTC phone.
just recently saw a bunch of ATT ads for buying the inspire or the infuse for 1 penny. Id love ics from htc, not because its worth a damn from them but because of what the devs here can do with that.
Making it seem like they pulled it from the inventory is probably just some marketing scheme. They make it seem like this phone is no longer available after the public wants it and them BAM! buy it for valentines day in the red color and for cheap too. If I was a person wanting a phone I'd jump on that. Its just a big game they are playing. And personally I don't care if ATT sends the update out or not. Thats why I came to this site. To get the most out of my phone and that means I can update it and not have to worry or wait for ATT lol cause we all know they aren't the fastest person in the race.

Can we please beat this into our heads, because I'm getting frustrated having to scream this from high heaven to get anyone to listen.
HTC releasing an official ICS ROM for our phone is incredibly important because the kernel source and files will make running any ROM on our phones for ICS that much easier, it doesn't matter whether it's a Sense or AOSP ROM. All the bugs and glitches in any ICS ROM will be mostly fixed by kernel source and drivers.

Your right once the Source for the official version is posted all the issues with ICS right now will be gone. The kernel source will fix the camera issues and most of the other issues present in ICS roms that we all see right now. Take the camera. The Video recording bug will most likely not be fixed until the source is released from HTC. Then you will see most if not all roms move over to ICS

The more probable explanation is that the phone is getting to end-of-life and they're looking to blow out inventory to lock in customers and hit their unit volume contractual commitment with HTC.
That's great news! It will not take long for the developers to mod that for the inspire.

Yeah, there's some wisdom to that. I used to do it that way myself for years with a Kaiser and HD2, but since I'm going to be needing a data plan anyway, and don't see a reason to switch from AT&T, I figure for my purposes it's hard to conjure a compelling reason to spend $500 or more on a phone if the carrier will subsidize me for what I was going to do anyway. :screwy:

Ugh. No kidding. I'm stuck with AT&T right now, and hate it. Even with the grandfathered data plan, they'll throttle you down to nearly dialup speeds if you use too much data within a billing cycle. If it weren't for the contact and having to pay that exorbitant freaking termination fee, I would've already told AT&T to piss up a rope and switched to Sprint.
T-Mobile has had leaked ICS Roms for both HTC devices running Sense 3.0. The Sensation 4G, and Amaze 4G. Most people felt like the Amaze would never get the 3.6 Update. But now they have a leaked RUU, bloat and all. Now that a good number of Sense 3.0 devices have an ICS update. I think it's time for the Doubleshot to get a ICS update. The Gingerbread RUU was leaked before this phone came out. I'm sure Football will manage to get a leaked Rom. We have all the proper specs, and I know we have 1 Million plus ICS Update threads. But with all the new updates, come on. It's about time.

Either way, we've been making stunning progress even without an official update.
Have you checked out the sticky on ICS configuration tree in the dev section?
That's some great progress
I encourage anyone who knows anything dev to pop in and see if they can help. It will make cooking roms much easier and also greatly increase our chances of CM support.

There is no definitive word either way yet...so everything is an assumption

Undeadk9 was claiming that he knew a "level 3" tech support at T-Mobile who told him there would not be any ICS for MT4GS. I heard all that sort of crap back when I had a Moto Cliq and the MT3GS, some "friend" in "tech support" telling bullsh*t. No doubt there is a friend, but believing that friend has information that nobody else has is very unrealistic.
T-Mobile updated even the ancient original MyTouch from 1.6 all the way to Froyo 2.2. I don't see them completely abandoning this phone, especially since the hardware is so similar to their other models like the Amaze 4G and Sensation 4G. HTC would only need to incorporate the Genius system.

... reports of this phone being end of life'd very shortly, you can almost garentee they have no interest in updating this phone to ICS. Watch and see, it happens with almost all their phones.

You just confirmed that you really don't know sh*t. EOL has no bearing on whether a phone receives an update. T-Mobile has updated many phones long after they went EOL in their system. The entire MyTouch lineup, including the original, got updated to Froyo within a few months of each other, LOOOOOOONG after they had all gone EOL.
And what's the crap about no development on this phone? You can't be taken seriously spewing crap like that. Look around, dude. Here and Virtuous are full of dev for this phone.

Official update or not, we already have a lot of stable ICS roms (primadonna, Inquisition, AOKP, insert whatever you please here). And the few kinks are just a matter of time

I have to interject here. STABLE ROMs? Are you insane?
I'm sorry but MMS and Bluetooth not working (to name a few of your "kinks") is a pretty f**king big deal. I would never call that stable.
And the closest to stable is DeSensed, which is ridiculous considering imitation widgets are GARBAGE in comparison.
Let's remember: Virtuous sets the standard for "stable". Period. Don't get me wrong, the developer community is great and I have appreciated them very much so over the years. But don't go branding their work to save your argument.
I hope that an official ICS update comes, but I doubt it. With the 3G slide, at least they kept telling everyone that an update was coming and it eventually came. Not the same case here.
Wow ..... I love xda and all these stable roms. These guys do a hell of a job. Dont let people get ya down we love all the devs here.... Im running premadonna right now and its quite stable

Don't know what rom you are talking about MMS and Bluetooth, but Primadonna has MMS, Bluetooth and almost everything else working for me. The main feature it doesn't have is tethering, but Opengarden and Barnacle does the trick on that too...

I threw AOKP in the mix by mistake. Either way, you're missing the point. There are stable (DEFINE: something I can use daily, with features I won't miss - obviously that differs from person to person) ICS roms out there. And if something like autobrightness isn't working, and that's what got you in a hunch, then you need to stick to the stock rom. Honestly I could care less about little quibbles like that.
My point is 95% of what you would need, even on a daily basis is working. And for some roms, it's even more than that. That's pretty outstanding considering we don't even have an official kernel or update.
Honestly, this thread has spiraled into a pointless opinion thread.
I refrain from posting any further.
You may think what you wish
I keep seeing people on here saying "phones with sense 3.0". I hope yall realize that we don't even have a real version of Sense.. its a Rosie/Doubleshot version. I don't see HTC modifying/myTouching the new version of sense and ICS for the doubleshot.

I am sticking with it and telling you that you will not see ICS for the MyTouch 4G Slide as an official T-Mobile USA Release.

Which is simply your uninformed and unknowing opinion, no more credible than anyone which differs. You claimed to have "inside information", which is pure bullsh*t.
I hope so. None of the custom ICS ROMs are stable, always several things missing or not working that prevent me from using it long term and those ROMs havent been updated in over a month.
Like I've said in several ics threads like this, the mytouch 4g will not receive ics.
Reason being, the mt4g has T-Mobile's sense version(my sense). For the mytouch 4g to be able to receive ics, T-Mobile would have to get rid of their mysense version of sense which they won't do on a T-Mobile specific device or HTC would have to create 2 versions of ics, one compatible with mytouch 4g's mysense and a regular ics for the rest of the devices.
You guys also gotta realize we didn't even receive a sense 3.0 update.
U all keep forgetting that HTC rebranded the phone in canada to the HTC Panache...
So its not only a MYSENSE Tmobile phone
so it is possible that other carriers in canada request that ICS gets on this phone
thats my 2 cents on this subject

Exactly, in Canada. If my memory serves me rights, they didn't even receive android 2.3.4.
But lets say he Canadian version of the mytouch receives ics, the US T-Mobile won't. Again same reason, panache=sense/T-Mobile mytouch 4g=mysense.
