Bootanimation with bootsounds - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I am wanting to add bootanimation with bootsound support to my ROM. I am running RaverX3X's beautifulsgs4g 2.3.5 with KJ1 + voodoo kernel. I have found many threads about bootanimation and that your kernel needs to support it and you have to add the binary. I think this kernel supports it, but I cannot find anything on how to add the binary. Anyone have any guidance/ideas on this?

To my knowledge the only GB kernel we have that has boot animation support it's the kj6 beta kernel versions 2c & 2d.

I actually used KJ1 with Ravers MIUI and had boot animation there so I think I am just missing the binary... In the OP Raver (for bsgs4g) said he removed the bootanimation (for whatever reason) so that just adds to my theory of just needing to add the binary. But then again, I could be wrong... lol

In Dr.honks kernel thread he doesn't say anything about boot animation support. You can always get a qmg editor. I think Samsung has a free one on their website.

This should be what you are looking for. I haven't used it but I stumbled across it right when the beta 2c kernel came out. I was on a similar mission as you let us know how it goes

I tired that already. It doesn't work. I am trying to contact the actual company that makes the software... But thanks anyways...

You can always flash bhundven's kernel. The latest posted has bootanimation support, but I'm not sure about the bootsound.
I also tried editing qmg's directly but it's more trouble than it's worth.

Oh well. Don't really know about anything else

Technically, from what I understand. Boot animation isn't really a 'kernel thing'.
bootanimation is executed from init.rc. I feel that bootanimation was added to the kernel because of lazy rom devs... or maybe that is just my opinion.
The next version of the kernel will not have this support.
If you want bootanimation support, your rom better support it properly.

[ROM] 2011-08-04 - ROOTED "Official Update" - x99_GB_Sense_Stock_Rooted_2.76.651.4/5
This is *completely* based on NFX's release of 2.72.651.2
- modded kernel ramdisk for root
I flashed this ROM with *nothing* else loaded on my phone, and it booted up and is running just fine so far.
My usual routine:
- format system
- wipe data / factory reset
- install ROM
If you flash this over another ROM without wiping, you may encounter errors.
Examples:
- Opening the settings in the messaging app = force close. Fix this by wiping the data for the messaging app.
- Wallpaper picker not showing previews.
Download 2.76.651.4 ROM v1: http://bit.ly/iNX9qc md5sum: 793da0847bd2b452cc7887480abae029
Download patched OTA 2.76.651.5 patch: http://bit.ly/pQ1KpP DOES NOT REMOVE ROOT!
is this the one with the newest update? 2.76.651.4?
Yeah, I named it wrong... one second.
FIXED. lol ... that's what I get for rushing.
Thank you will test tonight

No custom kernel yet... at least not until HTC releases source code.
For this, I had to modify a file within the kernel so that we can have root.
Good stuff, I will try this out tonight? Is it basically the OTA with root?

In the leaked version it had sense 2.1? Is it the same for this version or does it only have 1.0

F.A.Q.
Q: How can I get help?
A: Read below. If you want to be adequately helped, you must include all of the information in the format below.
Q1:What if (after flashing), I get a boot loop?
A: Either try flashing using the mounts listed above, or try these mounts.
Q2: Can I keep my apps if I have version v4 or lower?
A: Yes, you can! (*Billy Mays voice*) Flash the NO WIPE version located above.
Q3: Can I flash a different modem with this ROM?
A: Thanks to FBis251, YES! Go here, and flash with ODIN. Or choose between the KF2 and KG6 download links located above.
Q4: Download link isn't working, or my downloads keep getting interrupted?
A: Send me a message. I probably screwed something up in the upload.
Q5: What do I do if my apps FC, or my apps disappear after rebooting?
A: FIX PERMISSIONS! With our new CWM support, you (99%) won't need to do a factory reset anymore :]
Q6: Why can't I get into CWM?
A: Try using the QuickBoot app on the phone. Either that, or you can go ODIN the KG4 leak for the correct bootloaders, then flash KD1, then this ROM.
Q7: In CWM, under the Voodoo section, what should I enable?
A: ONLY System lagfix. If Voodoo Lagfix is enabled, you may experience background FC's.
To fix this, install BusyBox (from the market). **not guaranteed, experimental**
Q8: What's a FC?
A: FC, or Force Close, is when an application either freezes and does not respond, or closes itself due to an error. If you experience the occasional FC it's okay, but if you experience them regularly, or many in a row, there's definitely an issue. Post in this thread with the title of your message as FC ISSUE.
Q9: How do I install BusyBox?
A: Read here. You must have access to Market to download the required app.
Q10: What do I do if my SD card doesn't show up?
A: Go here, as mentioned by DSEXTON. http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?2496-HOW-to-get-ext4-conversion-to-work-for-your-GB-rom-P

Well you see both the boot animation, and the "Galaxy S 4G" screen right before it, without any issues.
So I guess the answer to your question is no, there is no rainbow issue with this, because the bootloaders are removed (from what i've heard)

with the other leaks, if people odined the gingerbread roms without bootloaders, the froyo bootloaders would stick and they would see a "rainbow" screen at boot. this was fixed by reodining in a specific order with kf1/2, but then you lost your button mapping. in the end, it didnt really cause a problem for people who stuck with gingerbread, but a lot of people went back to froyo for cwm.

It seems to be pretty good, I'm using the base ROM that this ROM is based off of, I did the bloat removal and build.prop tweaks myself, so they're both basically the same thing.
For those of you that want the kd1 modem, just flash it right afterwards before you reboot. This may be a workaround to flashing without cwm for gb.
nevermind, don't do it. Fixes wi-fi signal, but I can't make calls
Rainbow solved
Guys, all you have to do is flash the KG4 Bootloaders. They are in the original leak. They have GB no rainbow bootloaders with froyo key mapping. Volume buttons + power = recovery. Volumes + USB = download.
thanks for the release!
could you be more specific on what you removed?

I just got whitehawk's deodexed kh2 installed and ext4 working and I'm very happy. I hope you're not saying I have to go all the way back to froyo ICBINB and the whole routine of disabling and enabling voodoo lagfix and praying to the ***** goddess to do it right. I've run out of chickens to sacrifice to her.
Is there anything in this build that can't be just installed on top of what I've got? Like just copying the init.d file out of the build? I've got quadrant scores of 2500 now and I don't want to go back to 1750s with froyo.
The only thing I'm hung up on is how to get Touchwiz 4.5 installed. Everything else seems to work fine. I used to be able to just install it with root explorer but that doesn't seem to work anymore.

Also.. How about listing what kernels should work instead waiting for people to smoke their phones.
Example... Does the stock 2.3.4 kernel that most people are on work? - i am going to say no because you say it requies Ext4 and 2.3.4 is not that right?
Ext 4 is really only used on AOSP correct? Cyanogen stuff

Try reading what I said and maybe you'll understand.
Giventhatcm7 is the only thing this will work for i think you need to clearly state this in the title or the first line of the thread.
Unlessi read wrong this is for gingerbread and cm7 is the only rom/kernel to have the requirements he has layed out.
Also, how about adding the correct flashable zip to your first post for those who are not on a cm7 based gingerbread rom.
That way we dont have to fuk our devices by trying manual pishes that dont always work.
Just a suggestionas i would love to have this on the uscc stock 2.3.4 gingerbread since that is all thats available and it seems like the mez is dead on xda

is this kernel supported, and is this the proper file system... I believe I am running ext4 with cyanogen 7?

And when you say "clean out init.d", do you mean delete the files in /ext/init.d before applying these tweaks?

Why do people care about voodoo? It's not "coming" any time soon. The entire idea of voodoo lagfix is to convert the filesystem to ext4 which is faster than the stock format. That makes things run smoother, faster, etc. than stock. Now on gingerbread we have a completely different filesystem called MTD which is even better than ext4; thus if we ever got a voodoo lagfix kernel it would be downgrading our phones.

I've never compiled my own Android kernel , so can't help.
I hope others with more experience can help you. You have contributed to the community.
can't wait to see this baby running
In original development, evervolve latest is 4.2.1 based so you can use that kernel. Also, the changes between 4.2.1 and 4.1.2 are so small that Maxwoz kernel will work with 4.2.1. So if you can boot it with his kernel, you have a successful build.
Anyone brave enough to try? ? ?

It doesn't have a kernel, unless someone has a kernel and is willing to share there's no point in flashing it.

What they are asking is flashing this with Maz's kernel. For someone willing to try it. And if it still don't work then the build itself is a bad build.

Lol if no one has tried by the time I get my N4 I'll try. Incase of a brick.

I tried his last ROM and it was not bad at all. I would give it a shot but until I get to a WiFi connection I can't do anything. I have already hit my data cap. Too many nightly downloads from evervolv.

Tried this ROM with mazwoz's kernel SBC and it wouldn't boot. I got too happy. Would the kernel from evervolv work?

I am going to download tonight. Will check install script and merge with evervolv then rezip and see what happens. Will post back with details.

OK no go looks like a bad build. Gets to boot animation and hangs. Rebooted and did adb logcat. Some audio device fails to load I think. Did not save logcat.
I extracted cm zip. Extracted evervolv. Placed boot.img into cm and compressed. Also did a scan over both install scripts and didn't notice anything bad there.

well i pushed a tweaked kernel zimage made for my self and it boot looped like previously said, i did a logcat and same seems to be an audio problem more related to the rom itself not so much of a kernel issue. if its useful here is the logcat :View attachment logcat.zip
