I've never compiled my own Android kernel , so can't help.
I hope others with more experience can help you. You have contributed to the community.

can't wait to see this baby running

In original development, evervolve latest is 4.2.1 based so you can use that kernel. Also, the changes between 4.2.1 and 4.1.2 are so small that Maxwoz kernel will work with 4.2.1. So if you can boot it with his kernel, you have a successful build.

Anyone brave enough to try? ? ?

It doesn't have a kernel, unless someone has a kernel and is willing to share there's no point in flashing it.

What they are asking is flashing this with Maz's kernel. For someone willing to try it. And if it still don't work then the build itself is a bad build.

Lol if no one has tried by the time I get my N4 I'll try. Incase of a brick.
Posted from my ReLoaded EVO

I tried his last ROM and it was not bad at all. I would give it a shot but until I get to a WiFi connection I can't do anything. I have already hit my data cap. Too many nightly downloads from evervolv.

Tried this ROM with mazwoz's kernel SBC and it wouldn't boot. I got too happy. Would the kernel from evervolv work?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app

I am going to download tonight. Will check install script and merge with evervolv then rezip and see what happens. Will post back with details.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app

OK no go looks like a bad build. Gets to boot animation and hangs. Rebooted and did adb logcat. Some audio device fails to load I think. Did not save logcat.
I extracted cm zip. Extracted evervolv. Placed boot.img into cm and compressed. Also did a scan over both install scripts and didn't notice anything bad there.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app

well i pushed a tweaked kernel zimage made for my self and it boot looped like previously said, i did a logcat and same seems to be an audio problem more related to the rom itself not so much of a kernel issue. if its useful here is the logcat :View attachment logcat.zip

[ROM] 2011-08-04 - ROOTED "Official Update" - x99_GB_Sense_Stock_Rooted_2.76.651.4/5
This is *completely* based on NFX's release of 2.72.651.2
- modded kernel ramdisk for root
I flashed this ROM with *nothing* else loaded on my phone, and it booted up and is running just fine so far.
My usual routine:
- format system
- wipe data / factory reset
- install ROM
If you flash this over another ROM without wiping, you may encounter errors.
Examples:
- Opening the settings in the messaging app = force close. Fix this by wiping the data for the messaging app.
- Wallpaper picker not showing previews.
Download 2.76.651.4 ROM v1: http://bit.ly/iNX9qc md5sum: 793da0847bd2b452cc7887480abae029
Download patched OTA 2.76.651.5 patch: http://bit.ly/pQ1KpP DOES NOT REMOVE ROOT!
is this the one with the newest update? 2.76.651.4?
Yeah, I named it wrong... one second.
FIXED. lol ... that's what I get for rushing.
Thank you will test tonight

No custom kernel yet... at least not until HTC releases source code.
For this, I had to modify a file within the kernel so that we can have root.
Good stuff, I will try this out tonight? Is it basically the OTA with root?

In the leaked version it had sense 2.1? Is it the same for this version or does it only have 1.0

[DEV] AnyKernelEpic - flash any kernel without changing ramdisk

AnyKernelEpic
MTD ONLY!! Try at your own risk. It should work, but its not my fault if you have to bring out ODEN. As always, backup first.
Inspired by AnyKernel by koush
https://github.com/koush/AnyKernel
I've noticed most of the kerne's for the Nexus 7 are using AnyKernel now, and its quite nice since one kernel is able to work on several different roms without the developers needing to create multiple flashable zips. Of course our epics are a bit more complicated so it couldn't be ported directly over. I was able to use the dump_image tool from AnyKernel to read our boot image, but that's about all. Those of you familiar with building kernels will know that the epic uses a python script to assemble the boot image, which is actually a combination of the kernel zImage and two ramdisks. Since python isn't really an option in recovery, I wrote a small C program which is able to separate our boot image into its three parts, replace the kernel, and then put it back together into a new boot image to be flashed. All this can run from a flashable zip, which from my limited testing seems to work pretty well.
Feel free to use this in your own projects and make any changes as you see fit
INSTRUCTIONS:
Build your kernel as usual until you have your zImage and any modules.
Put zImage in zip
Remove any old modules from zip/system/lib/modules and replace with yours
Run build_zip.sh to create flashable zip
HOW IT WORKS:
Previously flashing a kernel required it to be combined with ramdisk from a
specific rom.
This will load ramdisk from phone, take it apart, replace the kernel, then
reflash it.
New modules can also be flashed to /system if needed.
WHERE TO GET IT:
https://github.com/zman0900/AnyKernelEpic
The kernel and modules currently in my repo are from my own build of CM10 on the evening of 9/25. I haven't made any modifications, so it should be the same as the nightly.

Well I think Jellybean pretty much needs the 3.x kernel, but if someone were to port all that stuff forward to 3.x, it should work. But I wouldn't be too suprised if a 3.x jellybean kernel would work on ICS... I'm not going to test it though, so if there's an ICS person reading this, feel free to try and let us know how many of the things in your house catch fire .

Tried for a day on Remics
You have to modify the zip file with update-binary-installer to install.
So far it is slightly smoother, no idea about battery life.

Thanks.
Yep. I applied everything except for kernel tweaks and memory tweaks. I set multitasking as mid and sdcard cache as 128 mb. Used AOSP based for AOKP and stock based for MIUI.
Wiped cache, dalvik and batt stats.
After doing so, I left the device uncharged with wifi on through the night, to make it get used to it.
Let it work through the day.
After next charge you will feel the difference.

[KERNEL] [JB 4.2/4.2.1] Stock kernel - CWM flashable

Hello all,
I made this over at the GNex forums for a stock GNex 4.2/4.2.1 kernel... here it is for the Nexus 7 for those that accidentally flashed a 4.1.2 kernel or just want to get back to stock.
Flash at your own risk, should work just fine though!
UPDATED: Kernel should work now! Sorry about the bad zip before!
Will it work on 4.1.2? I have AOKP on my device, would like to flash this, just need to check if it's safe...
Cheers

I will save this just in case :silly:
thanks!!!
I flashed LeanKernel and then wanted to go back to stock kernel before flashing latest Faux Kernel.
So I have just flashed your kernel but "about tablet" is telling me I still have LeanKernel installed?
If you can overclock then you're still on lean kernel. Either way, I'd suggest a reflash.

It was definetely still on LeanKernel, I tried it twice.
Only issue could be that I was using an older version of TWRP that wasn't updated for 4.2, but it seemed to flash ok.
edit
Ok, tried it again now I have the updated TWRP and the same thing happens...i.e. nothing, it flashes in the normal way but changes nothing.
This is all wrong. The boot.img inside does not match the one from the N7 nakasi factory image and the updater-script is written for the Galaxy Nexus.
Code:
"of=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/by-name/boot");
N7 certainly doesn't run OMAP. Flash at your own risk, indeed.
I urge you to take this down and make sure you know you've got it right before you put it up again. Only saving grace here is you were using the platform by-name method (which just plain won't work on the N7) instead of the actual mmc block names or you could have really messed up some peoples' devices.

As it turns out, I built a "slightly rooted" JOP40D stock flash kit yesterday (mods to build.prop in boot.img, and su/SuperSU in system.img). I'm posting this reply from that.
I started with the Google JOP40D (grouper) distro to do that. I thought I was going to need to unpack the boot.img from the OP's .zip to do comparisons of the kernels (to answer your question) ... but it turns out that his boot.img has the same MD5 sig as the boot.img from Google's JOP40D... and the OP's updater-script merely flashes boot.img to the /boot partition.
That means one of two things: either the two successive Google releases (for grouper) had identical boot images (which implies identical kernels), or there is some mistake by the OP. (I don't have the 40C distro to check ... only picked up my N7 a few days ago.)
It should work in your specific case though, as you are on JOP40D.
In any event, flashing boot.img is way way more than just a kernel replacement. I haven't looked at it for a while, but I would suppose that Koush's kernel flasher is a much more appropriate technique for switching ONLY the kernel out from underneath an arbitrary ROM.
cheers
That's great info there. I'm searching for the simplicity of just flashing a kernel instead of pushing the entire boot image. Thanks for a step in clarifying this question
