Hi everyone,
Has anyone else found that the latest ROM from the usually excellent LeeDroid is terrible? I've used his ROMs for a long time (starting with the Desire), and once I'd rooted my Sensation, I was really looking forward to getting ICS. I'd upgraded the various versions of the ROM, rather than doing a wipe, so I wouldn't lose all my apps and settings, waiting for ICS before doing a super wipe, and formatting all partitions to EXT4 (as "highly recommended").
Now I've done this, my phone is slow, laggy, freezes often (opening gallery mostly), and the battery life is shocking (1/2 a day if I'm lucky). I've lost all my apps and settings (which is really irritating, as I'd played a game for months to get to a certain level), and the super wipe has deleted all the Titanium backups).
I was hoping for a lot better than this. Can anyone tell me why ICS is better than any previous version, and if you think I've wasted my time upgrading to it?
Thanks everyone!

I`ve been with Lee through the Desire,DesireHD and now the Sensation. I`ve been running V5.0.1 with no major problems. It`s that good i could never think of going back to a GB rom.
Did you install the updated firmware before flashing 5.0.1 ?
It`s strange but the ICS leaks seem to work for some and not others, just look in any thread concerning ICS roms
ATM i`m running a 4.0.3 ICS base rom (not Leedroid) and for me it is even better...but some people are still having problems.
Hi ttav,
Thank you for the reply. I'm scared to put the XE firmware on, as it "may brick the device", plus Lee said that flashing this firmware was optional.
Mike1986 in the firmware post was very rude at the start, saying that you shouldn't read the post if you didn't understand it, which I didn't - I'm not a developer, just a fan of LeeDroid and happy with putting custom ROMs on...
I was very proud of myself when I rooted my phone in the first place!!

Hmmm... For the new ICS ROM's you do need to update the firmware but also I just caution against saying stuff about big developers like mike because most people on here worship them (even the moderators, and they are supposed to be impartial and unbiased) but I have seen several conversations both on here and via Twitter which make me think that mike in particular is a complete idiot (I would use stronger words but I don't really want to be banned)

From IC thread. Download the relevant PG58IMG.zip lockated under the relevant firmware folder from http://www.mediafire.com/?9g9wyi556vedn
Copy the zip file to the root of your SD card.
Restart your phone in bootloader mode and follow screen instructions to install it.
Ensure that you are S-off and preferably super CID before doing so. I have flushed both firmwares to my sensation without any problems, but keep in mind that you are doing this at your own risk!

hi
just followed mike1986 guide to s-offing and installing new revolution rom. All went perfectly thanks. the instructions take several readings on the s-off installation guide link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
I am downloading all my apps again plus the ones that require root access.
my sensation now seems faster and smoother, i would recommend to all sensation users.
thanks again to mike1986.
it does ask to post experiences installing the rom but dosnt allow me to post on the developers forum as a 'noob'
i also installed revolution hd 3.6 on my sensation.
indeed all went well, the score in the quadrant benchmark is around 2600, it moves a lot smoother, everything seems to be a lot faster, except the internet. somehow the internet got slower, even though the settings are the same as before. plus the whole device gets a lot hotter than when i used the stock rom (how much hotter i can't say so far, but i'll get back on that)....anyway, i guess this is because of the 'overclocking'
and one more thing, taking screenshots doesn't work anymore.
all in all i still like this rom more than the stock one, but with the latest news, i hope there will soon be an OTA with 1.5ghz and also the extended HTC battery...
How were you guys able to get the radio loaded as he suggested? I followed the read me but it seems to leave some steps out unless I'm missing something. When I just flashed the ROM with the built in radio I had ran Quadrant and barely got over 1500 I believe. When I was stock I was getting around 1984. Right now I'm running the CoreDroid ROM and Quandrant score just registered 2253.
I really recommend you flash the recommended radio.
Download the radio file in the first post on Mikes thread, follow the instructions in the readme file contained in the RAR archive you download. Very simple to follow.
My Quadrant score just jumped from 1226 to 2638 by flashing the radio, I'm running ARHD 3.6.1 and absolutely LOVING it.
All credit to Mike for a fantastic ROM and Faux for an awesome Kernel.
Rom is fantastic indeed. i am just hoping he will port Sense 3.5 to Revolution soon.
There are alot of good new Widgets in it...

I tried following that read me but I'm still missing something as far as how I should be connected, i.e. phone to computer. Am I supposed to select charge only or mount as drive on phone when connected? Also this method is using a dos prompt for the commands and when phone is connected as mount the phone ususally shows up as "E" drive. So when I type those commands in the dos prompt won't I have to change the drive letter to reflect the "E" drive, i.e. my phone?
Also while my phone has S off it it doesn't have radio S off, how would I accomplish this? Sorry for all the questions but I would like to re-flash this ROM & the recommended radio as well to test it out.
Connect in HTC Sync mode, cancel HTC Sync on the pc when it opens. Make sure USB debugging mode is ticked in Settings - applications - development. Don't worry about changing drives, just extract the RAR file to a folder on your desktop, read the readme inside it and follow the simple instructions. It really is dead simple.

installation is as simple
just follow Jedi's advice - I installed the new radio last night...
no probs!
good luck dude - we're here for you!
screen shots does work on 3.5.x just search the post for the remedy you will see it has to do with changing a setting frome false to true and the 4.1 is the new 3.5 sense leak and is fast as hell. i am still on the stock radio as well as several other users and getting ncredible scores so radio change is not nesesary but may work better for u. i am on tmob us also check out the faux and bricked kernels much better battery life
Does somebody tried bricked Kernel v1.0 on Sensation with Android Revolution HD™ 3.6.1 XE Rom.
I totally agree, that Rom is Amazing. The phone is butter smooth and the battery, omg the battery life is crazy good! When my phone is in sleep mode it barely uses battery. I get through a day easily. Before being rooted I had to charge my phone by 3pm.

anyone using this rom on bell? did you flash the radio? as bell uses different frequencies than tmobile will flashing radio work??
I just installed the XE version on my 4-day old Sensation
Installation was smooth and I got the screen capture shortcut activated too.
It does hang on the beats boot animation occasionally and I didn't install the radio update but my 3g speed seems a lot quicker (just done some speedtest.net app tests so far, so no 'real world' experience).
I want to try the 4.1 ROM with Sense 3.5 but I'm happy with the overclocked 3.6.1 XE ROM. Anybody with experience of both care to share?
htc sense keeps restarting...
I installed Android Rev. HD 3.6.1 on my Sensation and ever since HTC Sense keeps restarting! All the previous versions were fine until now... this is the only problem i have...
Any suggestions??
What kernel are you using?
Either revert back to stock or try flashing something that reverts your clockspeed to 1.2ghz
Thanks, I will try now and let you know how it went...
I have rooted my phone, but have a few questions. If I do a rom backup using clockworkmod will i be able to re-install original rom with this if I don't like the rom I get? Will android revolution HD rom work on Bell sensation? Please if someone has done it let me know. Thanks
Yes and yes.
I have a Bell Sensation and am currently on Android Revolution HD 4.1.3. Its running smoothly and works perfectly for me.

Yes, you can flash to any ROM you want if your phone is rooted, regardless of your wireless carrier. However, you should be aware that rooting your phone voids your warranty. Moving on...
I use LeeDroid's ROM, which is based on Sense. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181137. I use a Sensation kernel by Faux123 with it, and my phone really flies. If you wanna check out that kernel, when you check out that thread, just find a post by Faux123 and look in his signature under projects for the link to his Sensation kernel thread.
Yes, you can go back to the original ROM (or any other custom ROM for the Sensation), but you'll want to track down the stock Sense ROM from HTC (.zip file) first, to save yourself some headache later if you do decide you like stock better. I don't have a URL for the stock Sense ROM, but you should be able to track it down on here fairly easily.
You can flash the new ROM with clockwork mod by using ROM Manager, or without RM, you can boot your phone into recovery by doing a battery pull then holding the volume rocker *down* while simultaneously holding the power button.
Good luck! Let me know what you think of the ROM and/or kernel if you decide to give them a try.
Cheers,
Tom

Love the rom and now i have gtalk video! Sense is a flash no more lag wow...i'm impressed was thinking of changing to the new Htc Amaze but I think this will be a keeper for a while longer now! Thanks for the info.
You may find it helpful to play around with different roms and see which one you like best. There are several to choose from and they offer slightly different experiences.

I used link below. I also viewed some youtube videos its basically all the same for all htc sensation phones. Just follow them carefully and make sure you do it step by step. And before you install a new rom make sure you do a back up of your Bell one. Took me about 30min slowly but surely. Good luck, if I get a chance later on I'll post some links to the videos that helped me.

Hi all
big lover of all things xda and have been using the site regularly for all my htc hero, desire and now sensation roms. I love how you can nearly always find the answer to any question or problem you may have in this excellent forum. Hence not having to ask any questions before and not being able to post in the proper developer forum.
I have just flashed ARHD 6.0.2 ICS (from ARHD 3.6.8) on my sensation and it runs okay, but not nearly as smoothly as 3.68. There are 3 key things that I cannot seem to fix. 1) Go launcher pro and a few other aspects of the rom are pretty laggy. I've tried forcing GPU in develop options and a few other things 2) Apps launch immediately, but the settings page and any option within it, waits at least 0.5secs before opening. and 3) If I go to settings\applications\running tab, I get a FC and it says "Unfortunately , Settings has stopped".
These 3 things are enough for me to go back to 3.6.13 for the time being, but Im loving the little ICS touches, especially the new gmail app and would love to keep it.
Has anyone else had this behaviour? Any thoughts on a remedy? I installed the updated firmware, and did a superwipe, all as required.
All comments much appreciated.
Cheers, Dom

Hi,
6.0.3 is due today, and it will have new kernels.
Maybe a more stable 1.5 GHZ version
This will certainly iron out any lag.
Worth waiting for ,before you jump ship.
How to reflash back to ARHD 3.6.12?
How do you re-flash to the ARHD 3.6.12?
Do you just flash Superwipe, flash radio and flashback again with ARHD 3.6.12?
As simple as that?
I also already flash the new ICS. I love the new ICS, but for now I prefer use the ARHD 3.6.12 because it is more stable. I have a doubt in reflashing back again to ARHD 3.6.12. Is it as simple as that?
Please assist me.
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
Yes,Super wipe and reflash.
The ICS firmware and radio will probably work well with 3.x.x
You may need to change the RIL to suit your area.
Thanks malybru, I'll try 6.0.3 when I get a chance. I've not flashed an RIL though, arent they included in the rom if you flash the correct radio? My signal does drop from time to time, and re connects when I change from 3g to gsm and back again. Different radios don't seem to fix it.
pefenky, yes as malybru says, that is how you would go back to 3.6.12 (or 3.6.13 now). Next time though, if you have a stable rom running. Do a clockworkmod backup and then when you flash test roms you can just go back to how it was before if you dont like the new one really easily.
cheers
This is mainly for the people who've made the jump from GB to any current ICS rom, biggest question is: was it worth it?
I've read up on all the steps and understand the firmware changing, but am still very hesitant to make the change. Some of my largest concerns:
1. after changing to the new firmware do I also need to change my radio and/or ril's to match a specific rom?
2. do the benefits of ICS outweigh the bugs and drawbacks?
For me, my priorities are having good picture quality, a working video camera, working wifi, and above all else having GOOD and QUICK gps lock.
Would any of the ICS roms be better or worse for me to try given my listed priorities?
My final question, I currently have 1.17 hboot, if I flash the new firmware and decide I want to go back to GB is it a simple process to just re-flash 1.17?

1. Radio is in the new firmware, RIL is in ICS ROMs already.
2. Yes, with latest builds there are virtually no bugs and they are fast and stable for daily drivers
If you want to flash back to GB you will just have to reflash firmware for GB

1- the radio is included in the firmware.
2- Yes. I haven't encountered many bugs or any drawbacks.
3- Yes, you just have to flash the old firmware and and GB ROM
The switch to ICS is worth it.
Better performance, better battery life, better appearance.
I haven't run into serious bugs.
OP, at this stage I'm going to wait for the official release, it shouldn't be far away now.

IMHO there is absolutely no comparison between ICS and GB.It's like day and night.
You're all pretty convincing, maybe I'll actually try it out tonight. Have any of you gone back to GB after being on ICS? From all I've read it doesn't seem too complicated, just flash 1.17 back and I'm back to where I started, right?
EDIT:
I know two of you already told me the radio is included in the new firmware, but why does ARHD have links to both the firmware and the radio? I'm confused?

I'm in the process of updating to Virtuous Inq. but I already have a question. The firmware I downloaded from Virtuous site but it says it's 1.23 in bootloader, is this the older firmware? Should I have used a different firmware?
its worth it simply from a battery life and GUI acceleration standpoint
from a speed standpoint, the biggest thing you can do is getting rid of Sense

Hey all,
I'm complete noob about flashing. When I had GB - that was quite simple, but now I'm on last official ICS stock from HTC, and I'm totally angry for this. This rom it's just crap. I want to flash to a custom rom, and I don't know how on ICS, there is any solution? Noob proof? I want to change to some stable, smooth, and maybe non-sense rom? Can some1 help me? Will be very nice, if this rom will have wifi/bt switches in quick settings, and auto sys-updates (ota)

read it carefully
I'll be able to back to stock if needed? (To send it to service for ex.). It's really needed to change cid? IS there any custom rom with OTA?
Yes you need to change cid, yes you can change back if needed. Try out a few roms, see what you like they all are really great. It's just a matter of personal preference. I'm not understanding what you mean by Rom with ota. Over the air Rom? Or do you
Mean a Rom like the ota update? If so, yes there is. Hope this helps

Hm, I don't really know... I like Sense, but maybe clear ICS have better features? If yes - I don't want Sense. I really liked quick settings when on GB rom, now I don't have wifi/bt switches, but I want to. I don't know what's more... I've never had any senseless ROM. But most important - I want ALL functions to be working. Sense 4... ahm, I fall in love with Sense 4
Help me to choose, pls. Battery is important too, and smooth. But I think smooth is very good on most future ROMS

You can get s-off with the juopunutbear method. Which now does not need the htc dev-off, so htc does not know you are tinkering with your phone.
Returning your phone completely to stock can be done, but from what i've read it can be tricky as you must become S-ON again. (however, there is a unbrickable team here).
There is a way to flash with S-ON but it requires HTC DEV unlock, and for you to manually flash the boot.img, and keep the stock kernel. A noob myself i went for the whole S-OFF, lets bring it on experience.
From what I read on a local forum in my country, Ordroid gives you the sense 4 experience. And the developer regularly updates his / her rom.
Then again there is sense 4 from Baadnewz (insertcoin) and many more. A popular sense 3.6 rom is ARHD.
You can flash different kernels to increase your battery life.
As for the vanilla ICS, you can either go for CM9 (respect to Vorbeth) or the AOKP. The latter is based on the cm9 nightlies (i believe). I run such a rom. I love the vanilla looks and the added tweaks.
However, I believe recent nighlies have worse battery life. And there is an audio routing issue. For full reliability you might consisder those sense.
what's vanilla and aokp?
Please help?
