Help needed with ClockworkMode in Motorola Defy - General Questions and Answers

I'm trying to upgrade my Motorola Defy. I went through all the process but one step: setting up the ClockworkMode.
Right now the phone cannot boot. When selecting the "apply update from sdcard" in the Android System Recovery screen, the process starts but fails to verify the signature on the ZIP file.
I'm thinking what I would overcome this with the ClockworkMode Recovery, but I cannot install it via the Phone.
Is there a way to set up the ClockworkMode directly in the SD card?
Any other idea?

Have you tried to install original stock rom back onto SD card and reboot to that? If it boot back to stock rom, then start over again from scratch.

Thanks cybermayvberry.
I've just tried with stock ROM 4.5.1-112 GB 2.3.3 with MotoBlir for DefyPlus (MB526)
I downloaded the RDS Lite and driver from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1100585
I installed RDS Lite & Drivers.
I Flashed the SBF file (in the phone I get: SW Update In progress...). In the RDS Lite everything goes fine, Result=PASS.
The phone apparently reboots fine (the RSD Lite sense a Connected status), but nothing can be seen on phone's screen.
Any idea?
I'll try with a different sbf.

[Q] [help needed] nvflash "Nverror 0x12002"

I have got an Olipad (clone of Malata zpad T2 or not?)with Tap UI 1.2.4222 and my problem is that everytime I try to istall a rom (1.2 branch) I always am unable to perform system.img download , I get always the error message "Nverror 0x12002" (bad data). All commads issued before dowloading system.img are successfully. I tried again and again but always the same error.
I have also a rom that should return me to original stock so eventually I modified its .cfg for istalling Clockwork 3.0.2.8 instead of original recovery and NOT install system.img, this worked fine and now I can enter the clockwork recovery. Then I wrote a .bat for downloading only system.img but still the same error . I tried not only the stock rom but a lot of rom for 1.2, same result. The only rom that successufully download the system is the one in the "format tool" of XDA, unfortunatenly this rom seems to be of 1.1. branch because I get "magic values mismatch"
Is it possible my internal rom is someway damaged? if not anyone know what is the problem?
thanks
Ok, none has idea.
maybe the usb cable?
Have you repartitioned using cwm?
Yes I have repartitioned by mean of cwm and wiped all. Now the situation is that, after a lot of failed tentatives, I eventually succeded in flashing the stock rom, then I backed it up by cwm. After that I tried again to flash the same stock rom in the same way I did before and again I got Nverror0x120002 (also with other roms), but this time I had the back up and used cwm to restore the system. So I suppose may the usb cable (is made by nokia) that has some problems, it worked only one time.

Nexus S won't boot to OS

I have the Nexus S from Telus.
It was rooted, unlocked, running CM7. However I've been having issues with it freezing and decided I want to go back to the stock rom.
I ended up downloading what I thought was stock ROM for my phone (Stock GRH78 Nandroid Backup in this Tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884093) however after it flashed my phone, I ended up with a phone which was essentially stuck in Airplane mode, would not connect to Telus. I'm guessing that it has the wrong radio for my phone/carrier?
So then I ended up finding a zip file someone posted Stock-GRJ22-i9020A-unsigned which should have worked, I ended up flashing the zip file from recovery.
It said it installed fine. Rebooted, and now the phone just cycles the Samsung Loading screen endlessly.
I tried to go back to recovery, and it gives me yellow triangle with !.
Is there any way to flash the recovery image back to the phone?
I plug the phone in and the PC won't recognize a device.
I installed the Android SDK
Ran the command adb devices, no devices attached to the PC.
I tried fastboot devices - blank
I don't know how I'll be able to get files back onto the phone SD Card for flashing etc...
I had the exact problem two days ago...flashed an image that jacked my phone up. Wouldn't boot past the google logo. Sat there indefinitely.
Read this thread and see if you can get it work. In a nutshell, you need the PDA net drivers installed. Since PDA net can't install the app on your phone (because it's not booted into an OS) leave the install program in limbo and voila, fast boot will work. From there, push the recovery.img (google Clockworkmod recovery image), boot into recovery and you are off to the races.
This is, of course, assuming you already have a ROM image on your internal SD card you can flash to get back up and running. I'm not sure how to install a .zip image ROM if you can't gain access to your SD card.

Good luck, I know the feeling. It blows.
Ah, just found out how to install a file on a phone that won't boot.
You do need to flash CWM recovery first though.

Good news! I tried a factory reset/data wipe and rebooted the phone.
It doesn't hang anymore, all functions restored and the phone is working on Telus again!
I guess I had to format data, clear cache, before the flash of the rom.
So relieved.
Issue has been solved!

Got myself in a mess, please help!

Hey everyone,
So, I made a mess and I have no idea how to get out of it!
I tried to update to ICS using the file found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1395828
BUT I made a mistake by forgetting to rename it to update.zip (it was named Vsomethingsomethingsomething). Right now, my phone won't boot up past the startup screen (Google and the unlocked padlock). I was trying to upgrade from 2.3, had performed a factory reset before trying to update. Phone is essentially stuck on that screen. I can enter recovery by manually holding down the volume up button and power but can't move past that since I forgot to rename the Vsomethingsomething.zip file. Also, in a terrible and embarassing lapse of memory, I only backed up using TB and not CWM or ROM manager.
Can someone PLEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEEE help me? You will receive my endless thanks! I'm so screwed! Help! PLease! Thanks!
You hear of ODIN? search for it, and it will save you

Maybe you could flash CWM via fastboot.
Download latest CWM image file: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.2-crespo.img
Then, you can fully wipe your phone using CWM, and then flash the zip file.
One thing to note: the file you're talking about, that Vsomethingsomething.zip is an OTA update from 2.3.6.
If you're upgrading straightly from 2.3, go grab the full update, the file name is Zsomethingsomething.zip
Here you go: http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/ZD3PyN0t.zip
Download a rom that you want to flash. If you don't have a rom in mind then use CyanogenMod 9 from here: http://get.cm/get/2jI
Boot into recovery.
Mounts & storage -> Mount USB Storage
Copy the cm9 zip you downloaded onto your phone's memory.
Go back a few times
Wipe data/factory reset.
Install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, choose the zip you downloaded.
Once it is done reboot your phone.
Note: Your phone will not have the android market on it yet. To get the android market just flash this file after you flash the cm9 zip. http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
EDIT: If you don't have CWM installed anymore you will need to install it before you flash a rom. Put your phone into the bootloader. Then do this command over fastboot: "fastboot flash recovery C:\whatever\folder\the\file\is\in\recovery.img
Here is the recovery file: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo.img

Thanks so much! I can't even get into fastboot mode (plugged USB in, held down vol up+down + power), I'm still stuck on the Google & unlocked padlock screen. Suggestions?
Thanks for all the help so far. Since I'm going to be reflashing anyway, any chance I can just flash right to ICS? How do I do this? It would get rid of the step of me experimenting-then-screwing-up.
I tried what you recommended and it worked! I even managed to get up to 4.0.3 BUT now I have run into a bigger problem: no 3G reception! I have been searching online for about 4 hours now and I still can't figure out how to get a connection. I haven't managed to get CWM going and stock recovery just keeps giving me installation aborted messages. Advice? i just seem to have dug the hole deeper!
What phone do you have? The i9020A, i9020T or i9023? You'll be best knowing which phone before flashing any new radios to (most likely) fix your reception problem.
I believe KB3 for one will work regardless of (GSM) radio though. To flash radio:
fastboot flash radio radio.img
while connected via usb and in fastboot mode.
EDIT: From your other thread it looks like you have the 4G (koodo is CDMA isn't it?). You'll want an NS4G radio to flash.
So why all the hard work to flash a system img of an outdated rom? You know we are up to 4.04? And the stock odin version has the radio?

Huawei M835 ROM Troubles

Okay so I kind of put myself in a messed up situation:
I installed Clockworkmod Recovery and ROM Manager so I could install the unofficial CM7 port, I tried to install the update.zip but it failed part way through due to "Error 7" So I tried to wipe my /system, and /cache & Dalvik Cache and battery stats. After that it still didn't work so I tried to do that sd-ext thing in the mounting section of clockworkmod (Or in the advanced section) it ruined my SD card, I could not format it on my PC. I tried this again with another card, that one is now ruined too. So basically now i'm stuck with a phone that will not boot past the boot logo, no cards to reinstall the stock firmware. And I DO NOT HAVE A USB CABLE TO MOUNT EITHER. Which wouldn't work anyway because my cards are ruined. Please help this my only device!!!!
Update:
I got the stock firmware and reinstalled it, so now I'm gonna start fresh and root it again and everything. If anyone can provide help with installing custom ROM's and/or tell me what I did wrong it would be much appreciated.
Version: Froyo 2.2
Phone: Huawei M835
Carrier: MetroPCS
Clockworkmod Recovery: 5.x for the Ideos (Supposed to work on the M835)

Half-brick or hardware error?

Hi all,
Recently I upgrade my HTC Legend to CM10 and swapped it for my wife's alternate phone LG P500 as it has some "need force" buttons.
It was already rooted, so I thought of trying my hand at upgrading the P500's ROM as well and see if I could keep it as a backup of sorts.
So below is the chronological sequence of events:
1. Installed CWM via Playstore and placed CM10.2 + CWM6 on SD card.
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Installed CWM6
4. Reboot to recovery
5. Wipe system, install CM10.2 zip
6. Seems to run fine for a while, though some apps kept force-closing
7. While configuring, the phone suddenly rebooted and got stuck at the LG screen
8. Couldn't even load recovery after that, could only go into emergency mode
9. Tried many ways of reflashing CWM/baseband/ROM via LGMDP and KDZ but it wouldn't work
10. During on the many runs, I downgraded baseband to 10E, and then used LG's official tool to perform an upgrade recovery (which also hung during one of the reboots of the phone - still LG screen), then tried to flash an extracted DZ using LGMDP/KDZ, and then back to LG's tool to perform a software upgrade
11. Viola! Android now boots, but now my SIM card refuses to work. Tried switching between different basebands V10E and V20G, but it remains stuck in airplane mode.
12. Today I realised that the Baseband Version as shown in the hidden menu always remains AMSS6150 regardless of whether I flashed V10E or V20G.
Can anyone give me some clues?
After some days of trying again and again, this is how I solved it.
1. Downgraded to official v10e firmware via the official LG tool
2. Reboot into recovery, and used LGMDP to flash this NV2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22671293&postcount=52)
3. Reboot into recovery, and used official LG tool to perform Upgrade Recovery (provided model LG-P500 and my S/N)
4. After upgrade complete, reboot, placed SIM card, checked the IMEI and it's the correct/matching IMEI of my phone, and GSM/WCDMA now works!
Only thing I'm not too sure as I didn't note it down is: are the WIFI and BT addresses overwritten by the NV2 provided in step 2, or did the LG official recovery set the WIFI and BT address back to what it was supposed to be?
