[MOD] Galaxy Nexus GPU drivers - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hey all,
The Galaxy Nexus runs the same PowerVR SGX540 GPU our phone does.
So, I decided to spend some time doing some research and a ton of trial and error, until finally coming up with a mix between our own drivers and G'nex's drivers, that gave me the best GPU performance I could muster. I've had a jump in framerate and smoother operation, and as is the case with most tweaks, it seems to be getting better and better as the time ticks by.
Flash in CWM, or if you wish, pull the egl file from the zip and push to system/lib then reboot.
Note: The original EGL file from our phone was from Raver's Valhalla Black(So thanks white/raver), and this is still considered a work in progress.

Looking at the ZIP, it looks like the only file that is newer is the libGLES_android.so vs. what I have in my bhundven 0.1 kernel. Should I replace JUST that file perhaps?
The other lib*.so files on my phone are 1 August 2008 vs. your zip's 28 February, 2008... which seems wrong.

Egl.cgl and libGLES_android.so are directly from the gnex. As for the date it may be because i didn't change any code, i found the best results just switching those files.

tried downloading directly to phone and it didn't work, going to push through USB now and give it a shot.

Should I delete the existing egl folder
Before flashing this zip? Or will it simply replace (overwrite) the existing file?

This will work with valhalla black edition 1.6 and improve it ? Compatible ? Most tweaks arent for.that rom

Will this work with the octane 3.0?

This will work on any gb rom, but actual increase in performance may vary from rom to rom. I tested with a few gpu testing apps from the market, and antutu, on val black and stock kj6.
The flashing script will take care of everything for you, just flash and enjoy.

Also I wonder if it will be compatible with all other Galaxy S phones?

i will try it on val blck 1.5...

Wow this is cool.

in the process of trying it.. I think - DL'd and flashed around 4-5 this morning
thing is, I flashed, but the files inside the egl folder still have the same dates (8-01-08)
gonna push the newer cfg and .so then test the results with the 08 files
(my quad b4 scores are a pretty consistent 2430 ~ Antutu; 2907 (Valhalla Black 1.5))

Is there any reason this would affect wifi and the market? Ran update on Valhalla Final and then I am unable to load market. When trying to log in error states unable to establish connection. When I remove the files and revert to previous state market works fine.

Yeah the time stamp should be different, but it won't be 2012 if that's what you're expecting.. The files are ripped right from the gnex and i didn't edit any code, so...

In fact only one file was taken from Galaxy Nexus - libGLES_android.so which is not used when proper GPU drivers are available. The rest is S4G stock.

...except the egl.cfg that was copied straight from the gnex? Lol maybe they just reused it from somewhere else, but it's in fact right from the gnex.
I'm not claiming to be a dev, or to know everything. I posted this purely because i was playing with it and noticed an increase of framerate on this combination of drivers pulled from a rom on our phone, and the gnex. Figured others might want it.

lol nah man, I wasn't expecting to see anything except the dates indigenous to your files (11-11-11, 2-28-08, 11-30-11, and 2-28-08 x2), but they all remained 8-1-08 after flashing

Do you by chance have the original s4g graphics driver to flashto go back to?

CM7 question on Nexsus S

Quick questions. 1. Just got my Nexsus S Saturday; coming from iPhone 4, and I have managed to root and installed CM 7 build 150 nightly and want to know. Do I have to do a complete wipe every time a new nightly comes out? Or can I just update? I have done the backup of my ROM the very first time and have actually backed up my ROM twice just be safe.
Other question maybe someone knows is, anyone using the Nexsus S on AT&T? Want to know if adjusting the build.prop files to speed up the download and upload speeds works? Reason is my I phone's download up load are much faster than the Nexsus S. Would like to at least match the speeds to my iPhone. Thanks.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App
Between nightlys you don't have to wipe. If they are changing the kernel (or you're experience other problems) wiping cache and dalvik cache might be necessary (in case of "other problems" fixing permissions in cwm recovery might also help).

I just installed the KD1 radio on my Nexus S and now my upload speed is uncapped. not as good as my iPhone 4, but now I am getting 1.9 - 2.8 download and upload .83-.99.
This is without any mod to the build.prop file. Don't if i should try it.
I might have take back my Nexus S back to Best Buy since I am getting the bug where the find button goes crazy without touching it.

What do you get on your iPhone 4?
You can always add the build.prop very easily. Once you change that file and save it a back up is created automatically.

On my iPhone 4 I normally get from 2.0 - 3.0 and sometimes as much as 3.3 download. Upload is always 1.2 and 1.5 unless I'm at home which is around .80.
Which radio are you using? Also what settings you end up using for the build.prop file? Did you just add them at the end if the file and rebooted twice? Will test out once I see what settings you used and radio.
I'm having a really bad issue with the search key going off in its own. Now it does more since i changed over the KD1 radio.

OK thanks will check the radio thread must of missed it. I thought you had KB3? Also I went ahead installed the KB3 Radio and wow. Overall getting 2.8 down but the upload is low in the .30. this is of course without adding anything to the build.prop file.

"Different hardware" is not the whole story. Look at LinuxBozo's Galaxy ROM Hellraiser Beta9. A user managed to flash Samsung based Captivate/Vibrant ROMs (obviously, you've got to "make sure it's Samsung Gingerbread based" {-LinxBozo}).

Much of the ui can be ported. But I don't know if using the whole rom while adding infuse libs has been tried or is likely to work. I think there are just too many differences. But if you feel motivated then try it. Start pulling in libs and bins from infuse roms and make sure you have the unbrick package ready. But remember to use an infuse kernel and modem.

I actually want to try it someday. The only problem is that I'm still not too savvy on this, so I don't know anything about pushing libs and bins and everything else. Flashing the kernel and modem, I have no problem with. It's the other files I have to get together... Oh well.

Hmm... Interesting. I tried SensatioN with Hellraiser yesterday, and I had some info on the "about phone" section (don't remember if I had it all), and that modem and tweak setup, I'm gonna have to give it a try. I'm currently in stock because, yesterday, I was feeling defiant and tried to flash a JVS ROM from the i9000 forum with Hellraiser, as opposed to a JVQ, and ended up in an eternal bootloop. I was a bit tired so I just returned to stock and went to sleep. I'm gonna see if I give it a second try today in the afternoon. And also, I don't know why, my SensatioN was lagging a bit. I should've rebooted my phone a couple of times (instead of immediately making a call after rebooting the first time) to create some stability. I might give it a second try later today. I'll let you know how it goes. (I'm feeling sooo defiant this week. I WANT to make a JVS/JVR ROM work. All the JVQ ROMs I found, weren't very appealing, or were left in the dust by the devs.) lol
I had the same problem so went to the i9000 sensation and no problems worked beautifully very nice rom
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I give up. I tried to flash a JVS ROM by flashing a stock JVS i9000 ROM, and flashing two other .zip files, then Hellraiser, but, one of them, CWM would abort every time I tried to flash it, so it got stuck in bootloop also. I'm gonna try SensatioN one more time. If I fail to make it work again, I'm going to stick to Infused. I hope someone manages to port SGSII ROMs for Infuse I really want to get my hands on one.
U and me both. Have u tried the ported dlev rom? I flashed hellraiser beta 9 on top of it. Probably my favorite rom out right now fast responsive awesome battery life. Give it a shot if u haven't already.

I got it! Thanks for the tips about the store compression.
Only one problem-
when I run my zip it gives me all the nubernal stuff (not the nuberel kernel, just all the cwm installation animation). Don't know how I ended up with that, probly from copying the bmlwrite from his zip. I'd like to remove it because I'm not sure it is appropriet. I'd gladly provide the zip if it weren't for that. But DAMNIT! I really wanted to provide something for the community
also, I tried the 'earthound AIP EI22 kernel.zip' found earlier in this post- it errored out with a status 6 in CWM. Not sure about that either.

For the past two weeks or so, I've been building my own OC kernel for GB and CM/MIUI for personal use, 1300 and 1400 depending on how applied can be an instant crash, it'd probably be best to seperate those frequencies for those who want them because the people who don't know how to deal with it will keep crashing their phones. Only a suggestion on my part because I've been working at it for a bit. 1.2 is stable as always others not so much out of the box.

Faux CM 49b5 UV
I actually had the same problem when I ran the 'ics" version of the v6 supercharger, but fortunately I didn't lose the data on my SD card. I just got stuck in a bootloop after it restarted so I just had to do a restore from my nand backup (thankfully I backed it up first : D ). I'm running Hellfire 1.2 with the kernel it came with and haven't had any issues other than the common cm9 issues that have been mentioned. It's good to hear that someone else has it working on Hellfire so I'll try it again from the link

You should ask a mod to move this thread to the general section, people are going to flame you for.posting a non development related thread here. Also there is a chance of a ban.

Well It work on me, you have to follow every step on the script.
If it tells you to reboot even though you havent finish all do it, then come back to the
Script Manager and finish where you left of..
All of the services.jar that are posted on the guide are for different phones running different ics. I was looking for a patched services.jar file specifically made for cm9 for the g2x. That is all.

I'm able to run pretty much any CM9 services.jar on my milestone.
Try the THS CM9 - it's done by me and it's worked on alot of different devices.
That's the one I'm currently using but every time I reboot my phone initializes my apps and when it gets to the home screen an error pops up saying "select an application for the USB device. %1$s is not responding. Would you like to close it" Any ideas on fixing that zepp?
Edit- I was just pushing the services.jar file with root explorer. Then I cooked it into the rom and reflashed it and now no errors. Still says it breaking strict mode policy on boot up but no more USB connection errors.

So it doesn't initialize the apps on boot anymore, right?
Yeah doing the permissions usually fixes that.
I'm not sure that I know what that strict mode policy error is tho.
It also seems that the text on buttons don't always say the correct word... so it would indeed be better if you had your rom's services.jar patched.
It doesn't initialize anymore but it does say the strict mode policy thing. And I tried to patch my services.jar for the cm9 selfkang3 rom but I cant seem to do it right. Is there anyway I can upload the file and you patch it for me?

Lol. No worries. I usually post in the wrong section anyways. Kinda hard to choose where if its not a cut and dry subject or question

V6 Supercharger

Has anyone run this to 100%?
I tried using the scripts in Nocturnal_Special_Edition_1.1_Odex. I had no idea how long this process was going to take. Parts of the script asked me to edit a .jar file because the scripts have problems with odex and ics. I eventually gave up on the script altogether after getting to 50%. I also didn't notice any positive changes after what I had done.
Let me know about any of yalls experiences!?!?
Bro I did the same exact thing... Thought I could enable it and check off a few tweaks with mobile terminal. Gave up on that ****. Some of the more experienced users told me not really to mess with it as I'm still a noob.. if you looking for performance tweaks, try beast mode kernal... He did away with fast boot, so its totally twrp flashable.. awesome speed, awesome battery tweaks, and stable..

It's one of the enhancements in this room, though I haven't flashed this rom yet.

You don't really need v6 on dual core.It was usefull on older devices
I can confirm that after running at least the 3G tweak in that script that my mobile data speeds increased alot. My LTE speeds went from about 17mbps to 25-50mbps in the same area (my couch lol)

I highly recommended that rom! Its super fast, stable and beautiful...Xs did a great job on it

I get 51Mb download LTE speed,13mb upload without any scripts. It all depends on Rom,I guess.
I hope flashing another rom undid all the changes v6 made.

Pretty sure it's easy enough to delete - uninstall changes made by the script. There is a whole thread about it from the guy who designed it here on XDA.

I attempted this as well and just gave up after I needed to download and modify the jar file due to my rom being odexed too. but it did manage to fix some of the apps that were fcing on me everytime i opened them.

I flashed it (well the upcoming v1.4) a few hours ago. It's butter. Pure butter. :good:

Go through it and pick option 15 (I believe it is). That un-supercharges it.
It will whine at you and call you a sissy several times, but it will undo it all, lol.
Anyone got this working without any side effects (force closes, some account removed, etc)?

Yes, flashing another ROM will indeed "undo" the changes done by V6 Supercharger because you have replaced all of the files it modifies with fresh ones.
The Supercharger script was just updated yesterday
