400,000+ Apps in Android Market - Android General

Android has over 400,000 active applications in Android Market according to report published by Distimo.
Only a matter of few months before Android catches-up to App Store.
Source

These are great news for Android Community!!! I think that now it's time to adapt more apps to tablet modes with the new 4.0 unification ;-)

Yup, that's the best part of ICS: unified apps, more the merrier

Agreed. Good to see the Android Market catching up to the App Store.

Rly Great. Its growing and growing

Great! 400K market entries. Now let's get to 400K apps!
Nah, I'm just kidding. I'm glad the market is growing - but this is expected. Android is selling like water in the Sahara... And devs like water!... Wait, I think I'm not getting my own analogy...

Really good idea, look forward to more reviews! We need more beautiful Android apps out there!
haha not much yet, hopefully soon more
I hope we see some more "exquisite" Android apps. That's one area where I think iOS is way ahead.

So I guess they are releasing Jellybean..

AOSP is for nexus phones by design, it was something that most companies and Google were comfortable with when they were adopting android from windows mobile.
If you remember, windows mobile was highly customizable and all the OEMs had their own thing going on. This is where android is picking up from.
Don't hold your breath on a pure AOSP phone that's not nexus, it won't be common for a while.

Why would Google already be bringing out a new operating system when Ice Cream Sandwich has not even been out for 6 months and few people have had the chance to even try it out?
ICS was supposed to eliminate the gaps between all the devices, but that's not going to work out very well if by the time older devices get it, the newest OS will be Android Edible Underwear 7.0.2

But still. What's wrong with just building a launcher or something? Then they can have their worthless widgets and ugly launcher and I can remove it later. Maybe Google will start to make it easier for manufacturers to make a launcher that can dig deeper into the system so they can have their worthless changes that would be segregated enough to easily be added or removed.

That's why I say we run up into Samsung with some bats and just start wrecking **** OR someone could link me that petition and I could get the remaining signatures..I'm down for either
Waiting patiently for the good hardware on windows phone... Android was nice but the 1 year that I spent with my focus was probably the best mobile experience yet (I don't game much, just an information consumer and workaholic).
Android will be second for me always. Got this SGS2 simply because of hardware specs, fooled me once but they won't fool me twice!

Why iPhone applications or games always ahead android?

Hi all,
I've been a both android and iPhone user. And for now I've switched back to android for Galaxy S3 because it has much bigger screen and wanna try how fast it is. However, it's my feeling I think not quite different from 4S, even 4S can respond fast in every game and application compared to galaxy. I don't know why... just feel like that during the time I use it.
One more thing is that I wonder why almost every game or application under the same name from iPhone, got available ahead of android and most of them have much more features and quality than android as well, eg., asphalt 7....
Sometimes, I feel so sad about this...
So I am waiting to read about all of your opinions on this matter...
Thanks,

It's because of the I in front of it. Apple have hacked the Android Play Store to check an online database of Iphone Apps, and if any developer tries to put an app on the Play store, the Apple Virus checks if the same app is already available for the Iphone. If it's not, it will delay the Android app in Stealth mode, and send the sourcecode to Apple. Apple will then convert the app for IOS, put an I in front of the name, and release it for Iphone. As soon as they do, the name with the I in front of it gets transferred to the remote database, signaling the Apple virus that this particular app is now available on Iphone, and it's safe to come out of Stealth mode and release the app into the Play Store, but upon release, the virus cuts out 2 or 3 random features. They did this so they can claim that they always have apps faster then Android, and with more features. Now you know.
Apple has a very limited set of devices which they have to support in their OS. Thus much more optimization can be done to "smooth" such things. That said, I find JB with Project Butter quite impressive in this regard.
But with owning a non-Nexus Samsung device you are not in the best hands regarding non-bloated and smooth firmwares.

Hmm, like what you said I should go to one "smooth" is better then holding many types of devices which is good only in shapes and spec but doesn't have quality. I still don't know how Google encourage their 3rd party devs to make one good app or game for android. As to hacker307 said seem play store is a cow-don't fix.

I regularly eat apples. Sometimes they tell me stuff.
Apple has far better system integration with their line of products. A good example is the iPhone 4S which has inferior spec compared with similar priced Android phones, but still it runs much more smooth than most of the android phone. Because every iPhone 4S is exactly the same, so software developer knows exactly how their software will perform on those units, and hence much more easier to optimize performance.
As to why iOS games is always ahead of Android, I believe that has a lot to do with the eco system of AppStore and Google Play respectively. iOS is more profitable than Google, but that is just my guess.
I can't understand what u have found about this two devices. I own an ipod 4th gen and I can say that my galaxy s plus is faster. I know iphone is the most beautiful but not the best at specs... I am sorry my friend. Also about the hacking is correct...

I think you are right, that is the reason. Dev`s tend to develop apps/games to get the most profit first.
I believe that all apple devices are pretty much the same since the first one so so application's can be made more quickly and easily. But android phones are made by different companies using different hardware so harder for developers

Pixel 6 Leak

Google Pixel 6 leak shows off distinctive new design
Besides the all-new Google "Whitechapel" SoC, it's reportedly getting a new design.

Surprised no one's posted about it yet. I think it's sharp-looking but the Samsung influence is troubling.

It looks promising, I got bored of all identical looking other devices. This camera bar reminds me of the Nexus 6P a bit. And the Android 12 design overall looks also very promising! Just the fact that it look different of the others is enough to my hype. Seriously, the more years passes, the less OEMs try to impress us, and just leave us with one damn identical form factor, pretty similar feature, etc...
I hope google is going to make this phone different.

Their a lot of changes in android 12 I hope apps and games will still work on Android 12 asking because a tons of apps and games no longer work since android 11 because of what they did to android/data folder was the target of the apps so since we can no longer get access to android data since android 11 a tons of apps like dolphin emulator no longer work and in terraria we can no longer install maps and characters since that's located in android data too so hopefully android 12 doesn't make even more apps and games into no longer working

Agreed. I haven't been excited about a new device since the Nexus 6 probably. @Raiz and @Austinredstoner Android 12 is also a much-needed overhaul. The last few versions have been underwhelming.

Do we really need more Android versions?

Simple enough.
Is the march of Android versions a plus or a minus?
Yes, it's progress and I love a new treat but we're fast running out of alphabetical deserts...
Some are just now testing Upsidedown Cake and Vanilla Icecream is on Google's drawing board...
Just hope they've got some less boring treats to serve us from W thru Z myself!...

Sarcasm is a bit difficult to come across on a public form.
Especially since the majority of respondents (so far) are questioning if it is a good thing.
"Yes. I mean, it's progress, isn't it?"
Cheers all.
PS.
I have a collection of devices. Running Android 5 to 14.
Stock and/or custom roms.
I still use an Android 11 (custom rom) on my daily use (Pixel 3aXL) phone.
Annoying because it is as close to Google as you can git, and every day I get multiple notifications (from Google) to update to Android 12.

Just one big question how does that 3000mah battery still keep it useable, I have a 5000mah battery and anything below 4000mah for me feels really unacceptable though the fact that pixel 3aXL was/is quite a good phone. The only problem it can't run heavy apps/games
Yessss! Absolutely! More android versions = More features and functionalities!
Im always excited for new android version because they always tend to come with some interesting upgrades.
And new versions/features are essential for Google to compete/stay relevant...
Their problem may be to get buyers to appreciate innovative changes cos we're creatures of tradition and also traditionally slow on the uptake, but we generally do come around (several iterations late?) and love support for NFC, fast charging, nextG networks, large screens, hardware HD DRM decoding, AI(?), Biorhythm monitoring, the medical tricorder, the dermal regenerator and other must-have features soon to be crammed into your basic ARM driven device...
But we'd never admit it... Curse Google for foisting these changes on us! (I'd much rather use a band-aid). PW
And of course they're competing with the Apple mobile OS juggernaut that is iOS... And they already have the march on them on the modding front... Let's not let them get ahead but...
The really important poll follows... PW
Do you really want more iOS versions?
I'm already working on an iOSOSP 17.3 (internal codename Triple ripple fondu) skin in conjunction with Apples 'Reduce urban landfill' initiative [Nb. Apple have offered to support future custom iPhone development for all models by offering extended active security updates for end-of-support devices to modders interested in reducing the iPhone landfill footprint.]
I've already cracked iOS 17 Beta, rooted it with Magisk4iOS and have it fully debloated with all my bank apps working fine, but something is missing...
Yes! Every new ,version bring me some feature that I desperately need
Yes. I mean, it's progress, isn't it?
Mmm, it's kind of a hassle updating but it must be worth it?
I'd rather not update for features that I'm not even going to use
No! Why can't they leave well enough alone?
I was happy enough with iOS 14
I was happy enough with iOS 10
I was happy enough with iOS 2.4 (although 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 were total flops).
I was never happy with iOS anyway

I wouldn't say that every new version has brought in something I was desperately looking for. But I hope there are behind the scene improvements that makes the phone more efficient and secure.
