Help: Multitasking, Bluetooth keybord problem - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Guys I need some help from u. On market I saw one app 'Bluekeyboard JP' app where we can connect bluetooth keybord. I saw one vdo also on youtube. It shows that it really work flawlessly. I wanted to try it because I type daily lots of msgs to my gf. But its really annoying to use touchscreen ketbord. If a bluetooth keyboard works for me then really I will be very happy. But problem is that I don't have bluetooth keyboard to test it. I couldn't test it. So if anybody has blutooth keybord or mouse then please test it with mentioned app and report here.
Also I am frustrated with multitasking of our phone. I want to browse two heavy browsers opera & mozilla simultaneously but after sometime of the browser definitely get closed without my permision. I want that any app must be closed only if I permist to get close. I found one strange thing that nimbuzz messanger never get close. It gets closed when only we want to close it manually (i tested it). Can we have same thing in other apps also...?

Is there anybody who can help me...?

I have 1 but it has a USB port........so u say we don't need it by using software ....I'll try it after i reach home I'm out of station .......

ya obviously buddy. I want one more help. Do u know any app or mod by which there should be automatic enable or disable data connection?? I mean to say in nokia phones its really easy to connect net just by launching opera & insert a site link. But in our android phone we have to first enable it before launching opera. Also when we have to close opera then even after that data connection stays connected. But in nokia when we close opera then automatically data connection also get disconnected. That is much reliable.

Umm...I will see!
Dont know much of Apps!
More into Android Core Development

I made a couple of searches and found that its known as Connection on Demand.
Though nothing found for our beloved Android OS.
I guess the best alternative for you would be to use some app to disconnect data connection when.screen is off and reconnect when you turn on screen.
As for Connection On Demand, didn't hit anything yet.
About BT Mouse and Keyboard, i dont have any, so.cant help you wth it.

Tasker works flawlessly, you set a rule that "if" app Opera opened then start data connection (you need another app APNdroid for toggle) then add exit task so when you close opera thedata will be off. It can also start data based on gps location or switch wifi based on ssid or location.........it has endless possibility.
Now coming to your sms typing problem, your GF will be happy to listen your voice so use inbuilt voice recorder in .amr attach the file via sms or email her............she would love it. (hope she has compatible phone else use .mp3)
If you still want text then use & practice sound typing, the inbuilt mike on keyboard does a good job after some practice. There is another app vlingo its very good for voice commands.
Typing is old method, be smart with your smartphone.......lol

Anyway tasker with the correct profile will do all your jobs, it can even call the "personal contact" at a specified time all you need is a profile setting.

its really working flawlessly. It has taken my 2 hours to actually understand whole app. But still unable to set only one thing. Now i have set profile in such way that when i open market then data connection will start automatically & when i close market then data connection will stop automatically. But here problem is if i want open another app by keeping on market then as soon i press home key to come to home screen then data connection gets off.
Means when market is actualy open on my screen only then data connection remain on otherwise it will go off. I want that even if i do multi tasking then data connection remain on. What setting should I do?

It has taken my 2 hours to actually understand whole app.

1 way to do it but I am not sure so best is to try it else ask this in tasker thread, there are already many built user profiles on tasker site they can be used or modified.
http://tasker.wikidot.com/profile-index
Multiselect all apps which you need data enabled, so as any one or more apps is opened data is enabled now don't have a usual exit task, instead make another task where "if" data mode not used for "set" time then "toggle" data. So lets say you set 5 min idle then it will switch off data after 5 min of non usage.
Just wondering why do you want to switch on & off data so frequently? Is your 3g sucking power or giving you huge bill?

my simple funda behind doing all these things is that i want internet functionality like nokia symbian phones where we dond have to turn on or off data again & again before or after doing our net relate work. It should completely automatically handle by phone.
I use docomo 4gb/month data plan for 94 rs. I download movies, vdos most of the time through ucbrowser. To download a movies it normally takes nearly 2 hours. So thats why i keep it running in background & do all other stuff like gaming, msg etc.
I set tasker profile in such a way that when I enter any net related app say ucweb then it will enable net. And when I exit (means completely closing of that app) then it will disable net.
But here funny problem is tasker consider 'exit' meaning as only going that app in background. So as per set profile it un-necessary disable net when i let ucweb run in backgroun.
I also tried as per ur suggestion. I set a timer say 15 min. But again same problem happens. Lets say my ucweb need approximately 2 hours to complete download a movie in background. Then obviously when i will let ucweb to run in background then as per timer tasker will wait for 15 min & after that it will turn off net without caring that ucweb still need net connection to download movie.
I want simple profile which will do only this
1. When i open net related app then 2g connection should on.
2. This 2g connection must run even that net related app go in background.
3. This 2g connection must turn off only when i exit from net related app (means complete closing of that app).
My requirement is very simple. Still i will try myself. U also help me

A few questions

Hi,
As you can see im pretty new to the polaris and i have been seeking a few answer for a few hours and can't seem to find an answer to a few of them,
So i hope some of you might be able to answer these for me.
1) I would only like to use internet through WIFI, so to prevent a huge phone bill i would like to disable gprs (this is the only internet option next to wifi right?)
I tried an application called NoData but it crashes on startup.
2) These are spb shell related: With spb 3 my phone doesn't go into standby (the screen turns off to save battery) also my scroll bars don't function anymore (this doesn't really bother me though)
3) Speed and memory, will using less memory speed up my device? As i see it memory will only reduce performance when it really low (usually i am at 50% usage)
Thanks allot for reading.
1) Advanced Config from here http://www.touchxperience.com/en/advanced-configuration-tool/downloads.html
Go to menu => more settings => connections Then disable the ones you dont want (all in your case)
2) No idea whats going on there sorry
3) Less memory used will mean faster. The main thing that slows it down is background applications running (using memory and cpu). So if you dont need something open then shut it. Thats pretty much it.
Hope its helpful!
menu => more settings => connections is empty does that mean i safe from huge bills?
The thing with my memory i have nothing running and i am at 50% so i was thinking of possibly switching to a light rom if that would matter (I just like the tools full comes with)
Thanks for your answers!

Altough, I'm not sure does EDGE connection work if you don't have data plan...

If you read my post, you would see i tried No Data but it crashes when i start it Nullrefence exception.
Maybe i could just ask this, i like the idea of footprint when i start it asks if it can use google location service.
Now from working with this i know that google can either query using CellID (which is free) or using the internet well i don't really want to use internet for every footprint or every weather update that is not wifi you see
If there are no connections then i would say that you cannot connect to whatever mobile internet point. If you dont mind having a small charge try it once and see then you can be sure that it will not have an unwanted connection.
On the front of light vs full probably a little difference but really there wont be huge differences i think.
@Bodisson yeh edge will still work without a data plan but it will eat your money for breakfast

How to get mail for WinMo over WiFi without constant connection

I am not sure if this has been discussed before but searching didn't help much as I am not sure what keyword to use.
I have a Fuze (Touch Pro) without the data service and would like the phone to periodically get the mails over WiFi. I am posting it here assuming this would apply to all WinMo devices. If not, please enlighten me.
In default settings, the phone disconnects WiFi as soon as it goes to sleep. I used Advanced Config to enable WiFi even in sleep, but now it stays connected all the time even though Pocket Outlook is configured to run every 15 minutes. For last several months it has been working this way but it drains the battery very quickly unlike my iPhone, which lasts the more than a day because it connects only to check mails when inactive.
I know with 3G service I don't have worry about it but wondering if there is any utility or setting in registry that would connect periodically for a minute or two so that PO can check for new messages.
Thanks.

Thanks powersupplyzzzz. The interval is already configured in ActiveSync/Pocket Outlook, but it doesn't connect to the WiFi unless it's already connected. Does it work for others? I mean does it connect to WiFi automatically when ActiveSync is ready to sync?
Wondering if I posted in the wrong forum or I am asking for something not possible on WM at the moment ...

AFAIK what you are asking is not possible, unless you ask someone to write you a script or there is an app that does this, but i havent come across one.
Thanks timmymarsh, this is what I was afraid of. I guess the old iPhone still has some use for this advantage.

[Q] Tasker profiles?

Not being of mathematical mind im having trouble understanding the settings in a tasker profile i want to create.
What i need is a rule that would
a) switch on wifi when the screen is switched on
b) switch off wifi 2 minutes after screen turns off
Help would be appreciated!
android does that automatically. when the screen is of wifi goes to sleep after a certain timeout (you can change that timeout using OCLF)
Tasker meh!
I brought Tasker with nearly the same enthusiasm as I had when I got my Android phone. I couldn't wait to start making it my personal butler, alas this wasn't the case.
Yes I maybe I'm a retard and I'm sure I'm going to burn in forum flames of hell, and I'm sure the developer has worked very hard on this and he/she should be congratulated as I would never be able to do what they have done. That aside I'm a paying customer so I am entitled to my opinion. Unless we have all turned into Apple pricks
I'm really disappointed with how poor this is. I feel the UI is very unintuitive, cheap and kind of ugly, I have no idea how to use it and haven't the time or patience to sit in for a week to learn how to. Even the website is the same tatty thing that I saw back in the early part of the year.
I feel a great improvement would be that I could just scroll through all the different pre-made tasks and profiles (in the app not a broswer) created by Joe public and approved by the developer and with a tap of a finger and bit of personalizing, bob is your uncle! away we go!
Just my penny as being a very satisfied customer.
I find it very useful, and not very difficult to understand.
It is simply a tool that will trigger an (set of) action(s) on a set (combination of) event(s), nothing more, nothing less, make it as complex as you want.
@ftgg99, if ou take a look at the tasker website, especially the Wiki, there are enough examples.
I am using tasker now for awhile, and have been able to setup a lot of useful profiles, like
- Auto switch on/off Wifi when i am near my home (based on Cell tower location)
- Auto switch off Wifi after 10 min of a lost connection
- Auto switch off Wifi 10 min after being switched on and no connection was made
- Start skype when wifi is connected, logout skype on wifi disconnect
- Have a incoming SMS read aloud when phone is connected to carkit
- Auto mute between 23:00 and 06:00 except for favourite contacts
- Auto mute when in a meeting
- Disable Auto rotate for certain apps (Ebook reading in bed is annoying otherwise)
- Auto Enable GPS for specific apps and disable afterwards
- Auto switch on Bluetooth when WiFi connection lost (probably going to my car)
- Auto switch off Bluetooth after 10 min of a lost connection
- Auto switch off Bluetooth 10 min after being switched on and no connection was made

When I first bought Tasker, I felt the same way. The UI felt difficult to understand and I couldn't really get it to do what I wanted. Every few weeks, I would redownload it and give it another try, then quickly give up. At some point, it started to make sense and I figured out how it all works.
Yes, Tasker has a large learning curve and the UI needs work, but the time it took to figure it out has been so well worth it.

Part of the attraction of Tasker for me is that it's not centred around loading and personalising profiles from a public 'bank'. Yes there are profiles that people have shared, both on the Tasker website and in numerous threads on various forums. I treated these as learning examples, 'tutorials', and used them to gain an understanding of how to start writing my own profiles.
I've had Tasker about 3 / 4 months and have written approximately 15 profiles that have significantly changed how I interact with my N1, and how it interacts with my environment. These range from the very simple (reduce media volume when a wired headset is plugged in), to the horrendously complicated (workaround an issue with my bluetooth connection to my car kit).
I doubt whether I would have bothered to experiment to this extent if the focus had been on loading up and personalising publicised profiles.
I agree that the UI is perhaps less polished than other apps, however at most I would suggest that the dev has concentrated first on function over form. As a software developer who cut his teeth on mainframe COBOL I approve of that, particularly given the number of pretty but buggy apps on the market. Personally I care more about Tasker working correctly - I don't want my phone to ring during meetings if it's set not to - than looking pretty, as (in between tweaking profiles) I don't really see the app itself.
Sorry it took a while to read these replies!
Anywho, i now have had a different idea - tasker should switch on wifi, check if a known network exists and if it does connect. If not it should switch wifi off.

Which is exactly what the WiFi Near Profile does,
with the time interval for each check being possible to set to your own liking.
However, you adding additional restrictions based on the cell-near could save some useless scanning. Usually Wifi Access points have a fairly static location don't they, so why do a WiFi Near scan if you are not at your home/work/collage anyway.

How did you achieve the logout on wifi disconnect? I can't get Tasker to kill apps, which is said to be a common problem under the latest FroYo stock ROMs (at least for my Desire HD)
I don't have root access btw, since that requires me to downgrade my ROM first, which would cause me to loose my warranty...

How did you get wifi to switch off when its not connected to any network, occasional i leave the house and i forget to switch wifi off. I tried location based wifi off but it wont be as fast or accurate as switching off wifi when theirs no connection after lets say 1-2 minutes. I considered getting another app to do this after i tried to get it to work with tasker, but i have enough apps running in the background.
Do any of you leave gps turned on always so that tasker works better with locations? for me with just network location it can take some time to update and to turn on a profile.

That may be linked to timings of background context checks when the screen is off.
Personally I always leave GPS on, but only use Net location / Cell IDs for my Tasker location contexts.

I am posting one everyday this week and I think I have a couple more. I will post even more whenever I either come up with new ideas or someone gives me a new idea.
Ok, I have a very basic understanding of tasker. I actually was able to make my gps app turn on the gps when being executed. I only added gps off exit task after reading the wiki. However, I'm trying to find a way to do the following:
when selecting pandora icon (I say icon, as I may need a pointer to the actual app)
verify wifi connection status - if connected, then load pandora app; if not connected, kill pandora app (might be redundant but just in case)
I also need to create a general wifi connection status, such that if connection is lost, kill specific running apps (such as pandora; could add more later)
I tend to fall asleep using headphones and pandora. I'd REALLY hate to find out that my cable/wifi went down while asleep and I've just been listening to pandora using cell data for several hours.
Now, making a profile to turn on wifi is easy enough, but not sure how to do the above. I'd imagine it'd be something like:
If [pandora app] initiated
wifi_connected = 1 (or yes or whatever)
then load [pandora app]
any help would be appreciated
EDIT: Nevermind. Though knowing more about how variables are used in TASKER would be interesting (I'll play around with them some more), I found out that with wifi ON, cell data usage is cut off. I disconnected my cable connection and with wifi still on, I couldn't connect to anything. So worry was unfounded, it turns out.

Some actual description of what the tasker profiles do would be very helpful... also less tit shots so that I don't catch crap for looking at the site from work would be nice.

I was trying to make 2 profiles
Profile 1 - I have set up a profile so that when i plug in a headphone with no mic ( and no mic in options ) , it opens the music app
Profile 2 - i have also set up another profile , when i plug in a Headset with mic ( and mic in options) , it opens the dialer.
However when i plug in the headset it opens both the Dialer and music app . Is there a way to prevent the music app from opening.

Sorry for the delay. I don't know of a way personally. I can only work with what I got and I don't have a headset with a mic so I have no way of testing. One option you could do though is have a menu pop up and ask you which you want.

[REQ] Looking for a mobile network timer app

Hello, everyone!
I have recently switched to another mobile operator which has cheaper data plans.
I enabled an unlimited data plan that charges me 0,12 euros every 15 minutes of connection to the APN (plus 4,00 euros every six months) over HSDPA bands.
I'm looking for an app that works as a time limiter of data usage, so that I can set it to stop every connection (disabling the APN or calling another app to do that) when reaching a predefined amount of time for internet usage. I would set the limit to 1 hr/day = 50 cents.
I would be very happy if this app could also send notifications every tot minutes of data usage. I would set notifications to pop every 15 minutes = 12 cents. I realize that this is not a critical feature...
3G Watchdog would not help in my case, since I have an unlimited data plan and it's got no time counters but just data ones.
So, can you help me? Is there an app out there that performs the way I described?
Thank you very much in advance!
So there is no limit on data usage and only a limit on time?

Actually not. That's why I want to monitor my time spent over HSDPA, because it has no limits and I can forget about how much time I'm using a data connection and how much I'm spending!
[Should I give] UP?
I don't know if there is something like that already.
Looks intresting though, i will see how much work (and how fun ;p) it is and might get back to you.

Thanks, please keep me up-to-date!
Dont say thanks, press it ;D.
Your request looks possible, the problem is see is not with the app itself, but that services like email/gmail/sync will probably regularly use the internet connection and use up the time.
There are options to tell apps not to use internet while in the background, if the developer programmed right they shouldnt use it up .
I will keep you posted.
btw is there an english link to your carriers dataplan? i would like to read up on the fine details.

Done! As you know, we're limited to five thanks per day!

Yep, that's no problem. Since I activate APN manually, I also activate autosync manually with Extended Controls. Apps don't sync in the background unless I tell em to do that.
Maybe this app should be left running in the background and trigger the timer when APN is activated.

Actually not... this is the page, but I'll translate the important parts for you:
time-based navigation
50 cents per hour
surf up to 14,4 Mbps
just 4 euros every 6 months
Pricing applies to sessions. Every session lasts 15 minutes and costs 12,5 cents, charged in advance. In case of disconnection, the current session gets aborted and when reconnecting, a new session will start.

It's pretty simple and this carrier is crystal clear, so there are no hidden costs! Just in case they'll change the cost related to a session in the future, I think it would be nice for this app to let me set the price per session and its lenght.
Have you tried SPB Wireless Monitor?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.spb.wirelessmonitor&feature=search_result
It cannot disable your data but it is able to gives off alarm depending on how you set it.
Hope this help.

Yes, it's a good app, though I have to tweak settings a lot since it was made basically for monthly plans. It doesn't let me set each session lenght and doesn't have an option for charging in advance, so I'm finding a way to "trick" it, because at the moment it's the only app!

[Q] Skype killer ?

Installed Skype, because I use it ocasionally. Added it to some task killer to prevent it to start at boot time. I reboot, it's on. I take an other task killer, kill it. Still on.
I go in Skype, logout; I try relogin, it asks me for password.
How to make it behave like on my computer ? have it run only when I need it, have it off when I don't need it, and make it NOT ask me password when I login ?
Where is the "quit" button ? quit without forgetting the password !
Short WA: rename the package in /data/app, and reboot. But ... really, isn't there a nicer solution ?
I don't have any problems. Go to Skype settings and change the go offline time.
Have you tried the market for stop skype type apps? I used to use stop skype but apparently this doesn't work with the latest version. There are other out there though...
Unless it's actually using battery, there's no reason to kill it. You're just wasting more battery and resources by using a task killer. Android does a decent job of managing memory on its own, so let it.
If it bothers you THAT much, or if it's eating through battery, freeze it with Titanium Backup. I believe you'll need the Pro key to freeze apps. With the free version you can make a backup of it (this will save your password) and uninstall it when you're not using it. Just restore your backup when you need to use it. Freezing is a lot easier, though.

Skype has a lot of hooks for when it starts, so if you took it out of startup then it might be in connection changed or something like that.

plainjane it's not draining my battery, it's draining my data plan !!! and when on data plan, since Skype is banned by my phone provider, my friends see me go online-offline every 20s ... I keep blinking and ennoying them. I want Skype to run only when I am on Wifi, and disable it when on GSM. All other apps have options in Prefs ... Skype doesn't. Skype just sux. So, the easy fix would have been to do like other naighty apps: use Tasker to ask it to kill Skype when no wifi is available, and Skype restarts itself ...
You all guided me to something I had not found yesterday; changed the conf, will see tomorow.
TB is a good idea; did not pay yet, but I may pay for pro, for other reasons. But I have other things to test before that.
Thanks for chat.
A recent update seems to have ruined Skype TBH. I switched to Viber but you could also try Fring.
Skype now behaves more like a virus than an app for me.
I didn't think about the data thing, I'm used to having unlimited data & I'm usually on wifi anyway.
If it's a data thing, try using Droidwall. In Droidwall you can deny connectivity over mobile data or wifi. Just deny it over mobile data & allow it over wifi. The app may still run, but it won't be able to connect. Be sure to select menu > apply rules, just checking the box won't do anything. Also ensure that the firewall is enabled, and enable the log as well so you can check to see that it's being blocked. The app is free and works well, I use it for other things.
It's not a permanent solution, but it will keep it from eating your data until you find a way to stop it.

plainjane i have found how to tell Skype to never connect anymore; I will still install droidwall for other reasons.
I don't mind that much about data plan cost; but my friends complained I was blinking, and boring them
Fring is not an alternative; Fring no longer supports Skype (Skype complained to Fring, and frorced Fring to remove their internal skype-compatibility-plugin); I am not asking for free voice calls; I need Skype specifically, for their uniq services (Skype Out to call foreign number at low cost, and Skype-only contacts ... friends who are too lame to use anything else than Skype ... ).
I could WA my provider limitations and disconnecting issue by activating my tunnel (tunnels will ensure quality service, prevent discos, and re-establish connexions transparently when my providers shut's down the link; transparent for app, and fast enough to "not see any disconnexion at application level", just some lag ).
But my root issue was to get Skype not start at boot, and shut-up when i am bored. And if the next Skype update removes the options you helped me to discover, I will activate DroidWall which looks very nice
Thanks, issue fixed.
